Ann Meilahn Morse Johnson, passed away peacefully at her
home on Thursday, October 1, 2009, due to complications of
brain cancer.
A Celebration of Ann's
life was held at 4:00 p.m., on Monday, October 5, at the
Gull Point State Park Lodge. Visitation was held on Monday,
at the Lodge, from 2-4:00 p.m.
Ann Meilahn Morse Johnson,
was born on June 20, 1956 in Osage, Iowa, to Barbara J.
(Kirchner) and Dwight M. Morse. She was raised and educated
in Osage and graduated in 1974 from the Osage High School.
Following high school, Ann graduated from NIACC in 1976 and
the University of Northern Iowa in 1977. She later earned a
Masters of Science in Mental Health Counseling from Drake
University in 1994.
Ann was united in marriage
to Edward D. Souder of Osage in 1978. They were the parents
of two children, Sarah and Mary. Ann was an active member of
PEO, Chapter AW and enjoyed spending time with friends,
camping, fishing the Cedar River and being outdoors.
Ann and the girls moved to
Spirit Lake, Iowa in 1988. She met Wayne Johnson and they
were married in 2002. There she was also active in PEO,
Chapter BE, the Dickinson County Trails Board, the CAASA
board and the United Methodist Church of Arnolds Park. She
worked as a mental health therapist at Seasons Center in the
area for 9 years and then had a private practice. A few of
the activities Ann enjoyed include biking, writing, yoga,
traveling and creating art.
She is survived by her
husband, Wayne; 2 daughters, Sarah (Andy) of Minneapolis and
Mary of Portland; 2 step-children, Heather (Todd) of Spirit
Lake and Ryan (Anne) of Spencer; grandchildren, Nicholas,
Parker and Hadley Hays, Alexa, Evan and Dylan Johnson and
Soren Johnson; her mother, Barbara J. K. Morse of Spirit
Lake; her brother, Michael J. (Carolyn) Morse; and one
nephew, Martin A. Morse of Des Moines.
She was preceded in death
by her father, Dwight M. Morse; and many beloved relatives
and friends.

Lydia Deal
October 5, 2009
Lydia Deal, 92, formerly of Boone, passed away at the Boone
County Hospital, on Friday morning, October 2, 2009. She had
been a resident at the Evangelical Free Church Home in Boone
for the past 3 years.
Funeral services will be
held on Thursday morning, October 8, at 10:30 a.m., at the
Boone Biblical Memorial Church in Boone, with Rev. Bruce
Thomas officiating. Interment will be in the Highland Memory
Gardens in Des Moines, Iowa. Visitations will be held on
Thursday morning, at the Church, from 9:00 a.m. until the
time of the service.
She was born on December
6, 1916 in Brainard, Nebraska, the daughter of Frank and
Anna (Cejka) Smolik. On May 28, 1960, she married Glen A
Deal at Osage, Iowa. Lydia was a graduate of the Little
Cedar High School near Osage. In 1935, at the age of 18, she
came to the Boone Biblical College in Boone where she taught
school for 52 years. During that time, she attended the
University of Northern Iowa where she received her
Bachelor's Degree in Education.
Lydia enjoyed gardening
and tending to her flowers, was an avid reader, and was a
very generous and giving person, especially to children. She
was a member of the Boone Biblical Memorial Church, where
she taught Sunday School and was politically active and
supportive of the Republican Party.
Her parents; husband, Glen
in February of 1983; 4 brothers, Ed, George, Ernest and Ray;
and 3 sisters, Helen, Libby and Adeline, preceded her in
death.
Survivors include her
step-son, Richard Deal of Ames; 1 brother, Duane Smolik of
San Jose, California; and several nieces and nephews.
Those wishing to express
their sympathies through a memorial may direct their gift to
the Boone Biblical Ministries.

Verle "Bud" Ernest
McKee
October 9, 2009
Verle
"Bud" Ernest McKee, age 84, of Osage, went to be with the
Lord on Tuesday, October 6, 2009, at the Faith Lutheran Home
in Osage.
Funeral services were held
at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, October 9, at the Our Savior's
Lutheran Church in Osage, with Rev. Dennis Hanson
officiating. Burial was in the Osage Cemetery.
Bud was born on May 21,
1925 in Rock Falls, Iowa, the son of Alvin and Effie (Shoger)
McKee. Bud attended school in Rock Falls. On May 14, 1945,
he married Uva Snook in Osage. Bud worked for area farmers.
In 1950, he took his family to Houston, Texas, where he
owned and operated a truck, transporting oil field equipment
for the J.H. Rose Truck Line and Garner Truck Line for nine
years. Bud then returned to Orchard, Iowa, with his family
and began farming with his brother-in-law, Art Altick. He
later purchased the farm, which he farmed for 32 years. On
January 12, 1990, Bud sold his farm and they moved to Osage,
where he worked for Johnson Chemical for 11 years.
Bud was instrumental with
the building of a Lutheran church in the Houston area in the
1950's. Upon returning to Iowa in August of 1958, he
belonged to the Orchard Congregational Church and later
became a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Osage. In
the past two years, Bud and Uva transferred to the Our
Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage. He held various church
offices over the years. Bud enjoyed camping and fishing, but
the love of his life was his family and farming. When the
crops were harvested and other work completed, Bud and Uva
traveled south and to other places of interest for the
winter.
Bud is survived by his
wife, Uva McKee of Osage; two daughters, Sandra (Dick)
Wittkamp of Alexandria, Minnesota and Lori (John) Chrencik
of Hanlontown; three sons, Darrell (Brenda) McKee of Osage,
Jack (Marcia) McKee of Floyd and Michael McKee of Sundance,
Wyoming; grandchildren, Rick Wittkamp, Brian (Denise)
Wittkamp, Christopher (Lori) Wittkamp, Lindsay, Courtney and
Taylor Chrencik; great-grandsons, Addison, Mitchell and
Tyler Wittkamp; a sister, Phyllis Krones of Osage; and
step-grandchildren and families, Nick (Stephanie) Kloberdanz
and son, John Henry; Dave (Abby) Kloberdanz and daughter,
Joslyn; Shelby (Adam) Kline and children, Kinsey, Kylee and
Aidyn.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; a sister, Audrey Altick; father-in-law and
mother-in-law, Fred and Elizabeth Snook; brothers-in-law,
Art Altick, Stanley Krones, Leonard Snook and Emil Gerbitz;
and sisters-in-law, Eileene Gerbitz and Elizabeth Snook.

Austin William Wahl
October 14, 2009
Austin William Wahl, age 4 1/2 months, of Charles City,
Iowa, the son of Brandee Reams and Will Wahl, died on
Sunday, October 11, 2009, at his home.
Funeral services will be
held at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, October 19, at the Trinity
Lutheran Church in New Hampton, with Reverend Kevin Frey
officiating. Burial will be in the New Hampton Cemetery,
with Austin's grandmas serving as casket bearers. Visitation
will be on Sunday, October 18, from 3-7:00 p.m., at the
Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home in New Hampton. Visitation will
continue at the church one hour prior to the services on
Monday.
Austin William Wahl, was
born on May 31, 2009, to Will Wahl and Brandee Reams in
Mason City, Iowa. Austin came early and was loved deeply by
his big sisters and family because he was Austin.
Austin is survived by his
father, Will Wahl and mother, Brandee Reams of Charles City;
three sisters, Elizabeth, Whitnee and Alyssa of Charles
City; grandparents, Julie Wahl of New Hampton, Lee and
Allison Reams of Charles City and Pam Funte of Floyd;
great-grandparents, Wendell Wahl of New Hampton, Edith
Nading of McGregor, Mark and Val Reams of Topeka, Kansas,
Gene and Linda LaChapelle of St. Ansgar and Carol and Gary
Peters of Eldora; great-great-grandma, Frances Brindle of
Marshalltown; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death
by his grandpa, Dennis Wahl; great-grandma, Norma Wahl;
great-grandpa, Marvin Nading; great-grandpa, Edward Funte
Sr.; and uncle, Matthew Wahl.

Frederick Edward
Kuykendall
October 12, 2009
Marble Rock, Iowa-Frederick Edward Kuykendall, was born in
Lake City, Minnesota, on July 18, 1946 and raised in Charles
City, Iowa. He graduated in 1965 and enlisted into the Army
in December 1965 to 1968. Fred served in Vietnam from
1966-1967. After his service, Fred worked as a mechanic till
he discovered over the road trucking was his calling.
Fred was married to Connie
Lumm on February 17, 1968 and they had two daughters, Julie
(Brad Pitman) and Jennifer (Paul Johnson). They were
divorced in 1982. Later Fred remarried in 1987 to Kristie
(Meier-Hayes) and acquired three more children, Chad,
Jennifer (Todd Adams) and Rebeka (Mike Johnson).
Fred was blessed with 11
grandchildren, Alan, Heather and Ricky of Charles City;
Steven and Austin of Portland; Tayler, Emma and Macie of
Orchard; Bailey, Emily and Zoey of Osage.
Fred is survived by his
mother, Dee (Bill Berns) of Charles City; sister, Sherri
(John Wirkler) of Prairie du Chine and Janet (Jerry
Schwickrath) of New Mexico.

Myron J. Moore
October 20, 2009
Myron Jess (M.J.) Moore, age 89, of Riceville, passed away
on Sunday, October 11, 2009, at the Veterans Administration
Medical Center in Knoxville, Iowa.
M.J. was an anatomical
donor to Mayo Clinic. A memorial service will be held at the
Riceville United Methodist Church, on Wednesday, October 21,
at 1:30 p.m., with the Rev. Pamela Kranzler officiating.
Friends may call at the church one hour before the services
on Wednesday. The Lindstrom Funeral Home in Riceville is in
charge of the arrangements.

Merritt Vern Beaman
October 20, 2009
Merritt Vern Beaman, 85, of St. Ansgar, died on Monday,
October 12, 2009, at the St. Clare Hospital in Baraboo,
Wisconsin.
Funeral services were
conducted at the St. Ansgar Methodist Church, at 11:00 a.m.,
on Saturday, October 17. Visitation was held directly prior
to the services at 10:00 a.m. and a lunch followed.
Merritt, the man who was
synonymous for many years with the Central Iowa Telephone
Company, was born on June 22, 1924. He grew up and graduated
in Mondamin, Iowa. He married Shirley Jean Morice on October
10, 1945. Together they raised three children, Merritt,
Denise and David. Shirley preceded Merritt in death,
succumbing to cancer after over 40 years of marriage.
Merritt's eldest son,
Merritt, is a teacher in West Des Moines and is married to
Marsha. Merritt's daughter, Denise, lives in Waterloo and is
married to Tim Hackenmiller. They have three children,
Nikki, Cassie and Chad. Cassie is married to Cameron
Schmitt. They have three boys, Logan, Kegan and Ethan.
David, the youngest son, is married and living in West Des
Moines. He is married to Jeannie and they have four
children, Stephanie, Brandon, Josh and Megan.
Merritt is survived by his
wife of 19 years. He married Beulah Inez Beaman on July 14,
1990. His expanded family includes Carol (Montgomery)
Mensink; Carol's daughter and son, Sarah and Tyler. Sarah
and her husband, Jay Craig, have a daughter, Mckinley.
Other survivors are
half-sisters, LaVera and husband, Gene Sorick of Gulf
Shores, Alabama and Melva Jane and husband, Frank Edgor of
Lee's Summit, Missouri.
During the 60's, Merritt
and Shirley hosted two Brazilian foreign exchange students
who have grown and raised their own families but still call
him "Dad", solidifying his world class father figure status.
Merritt was involved in
his community, instantly bonded with strangers making them
friends, was trustworthy and trusting; incapable of
harboring ill-will. He was a member of the American Legion,
as well as served on the St. Ansgar City Council. He was
grateful for his blessings even when his health
deteriorated. A model patient, he often emerged from the
hospital after a setback, transforming contacts into
friendships. Because of his deep wish to continue giving, he
chose early on to be an organ donor. One of his great joys
in life was traveling. He was able to visit such places as
Brazil, Europe, Hawaii, Alaska and much of the mainland
United States.
Throughout school, Merritt
participated in sports. This love of sports continued into
later years. He spent many hours cheering on his favorite
teams; the Vikings, the Twins, and the Iowa Hawkeyes. He
also enjoyed dancing, singing, and music of all sorts.
Merritt's graciousness and good-nature will always be
remembered by those whose lives he touched.

Leona I. Richards

Leona I. Richards, age 89, of Osage and formerly of
Carpenter, passed away on Tuesday, October 13, 2009, at the
Faith Lutheran Home in Osage, where she had been a resident
for nearly two years.
Funeral services will be
held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, October 16, at the Our
Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage, with Rev. Dennis Hanson
and Dr. Stephen Grunlan officiating. Burial will be in the
Osage Cemetery. Visitation is from 4-8:00 p.m., on Thursday,
at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.
Leona was born on July 9,
1920 in Osage, the daughter of Frederick and Ida (Hartwig)
Havig. She attended and graduated from the Osage High
School. Leona was united in marriage to Glenn C. Richards of
Otranto, on June 3, 1942, at her family home. They are the
parents of three children, Nancy, Kathy and Lynn. Her
husband, Glenn, was the love of her life and when he passed
away in 1998, part of her went with him. Leona then moved to
the Evergreen Assisted Living in Osage.
She was a life long member
of the Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage. Leona enjoyed
attending the Birthday Club, gardening and canning, planting
flowers and lots of baking for her family.
Survivors include her two
daughters, Nancy (Leland) Minnis of Riceville and Kathy
(Delbert) Schulz of Warrenville, Illinois; her son, Lynn
(Janet) Richards of Des Moines; her seven grandchildren,
Karrie (Steve) Belanger, Tammy Schulz, Heather Schulz, Kevin
(Kim) Minnis, Kelly (Rose) Minnis, Ryan Richards and Cassie
(Josh) Davenport; her five great-grandchildren, Madison and
Brianna Minnis, Jayden and Josie Minnis and Daniel
Davenport; her two sisters, June Jahnel of New Haven and
Fern (Jim) Hughes of Riceville.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; her husband, Glenn; two sisters; and four
brothers.

Rev. Dr. Karl
Frederick Langrock

The Rev. Dr. Karl Frederick Langrock, 82, of Wilsonville,
Oregon, died at his home on Wednesday, October 14, 2009, due
to complications of congestive heart failure.
A memorial service will be
held on Saturday, October 31, at 2:00 p.m., at the St. Peter
Lutheran Church, Toeterville, Iowa, with a committal service
following in the St. Peter's German Lutheran Cemetery in
Toeterville. Memorial contributions may be made to Lutheran
Social Services of Illinois or Grand View University.
Karl was born on January
26, 1927 in Toeterville, Iowa, which was founded by his
great-grandfather, Henry Toeter. He spent his younger years
in rural Mitchell County and graduated from the Cedar Falls
High School. Advanced degrees were from Northern Iowa
University, the University of Iowa and the Lutheran School
of Theology in Maywood, Illinois. Later he served Lutheran
congregations in Illinois, was director of development at
Berea College in Kentucky and 16 years as President of
Grandview University in Des Moines, Iowa.
He was preceded in death
by his parents, Lee H. and Alice D. (Grube) Langrock; and
sisters, Adeline and Hildgard.
Survivors include his
loving wife of 59 years, Rose Marie; daughter, Laura (Rick)
Croshaw of Sherwood; son, Charles (Debra) Langrock of Des
Moines; sister, Lenore (Neal) Winkler; three nieces; two
nephews; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Ross E. Harmon
October 20, 2009
Ross Elliott Harmon, age 87, of Osage, died on Friday,
October 16, 2009, at the Nora Springs Care Center in Nora
Springs.
Funeral services were held
at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, October 19, at the
Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, with Pastor Wendy
Johannesen officiating. Burial was in the Osage Cemetery
with military honors by Osage V.F.W. Post 7920.
Ross was born on July 2,
1922 in Burr Oak Township, Mitchell County, Iowa, the son of
William and Grace (Angell) Harmon. He was baptized and
confirmed in the First United Methodist Church in Osage.
Ross graduated from the Osage High School in 1940. He served
in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific area as
a motor machinist. After the war, he returned to the Osage
area and engaged in farming. He married Kathryn Kitson on
November 26, 1949. They farmed in Burr Oak Township and
retired to Osage in 1984. Later, in addition to farming, he
sold seed corn in the area for over 20 years.
In his younger years, Ross
enjoyed hunting and trapping. He was a charter and life
member of the Osage V.F.W. and held the office of squad
commander for many years. Ross was also a member of the
Orchard American Legion.
Ross is survived by his
wife, Kathryn Harmon of Osage; three daughters, Linda Lines
and fiancée, Jeffrey Mondry of Rudd, Mary Kay Erdmann and
husband, Kenneth of Plymouth and Janice Henik and husband,
John of Mount Vernon; three grandsons, Brad Lines, Douglas
Erdmann and Joshua Henik; three granddaughters, Erin Lines
Myers and husband, Jerry, Dawn Erdmann and Kara Henik; and
two great-grandsons, McCain and Truman Myers.
He was preceded in death
by his parents.

Orpha
Ellefson, 99, of Charles City, died on Friday, October 16,
2009, at the Cedar Health in Charles City.
A funeral service will be
held at the Messiah Lutheran Church in Charles City, on
Saturday, October 24, at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Jane Keel
officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the
service at the church. Burial will follow at 1:00 p.m., in
the Osage Memorial Cemetery.

Frank Vulk
October 27, 2009
Frank Vulk, 92 years old, passed away peacefully in his home
on Sunday, October 18, 2009.
A memorial service was
held at 7:00 p.m., on Wednesday, at the New Covenant
Presbyterian Church, Richmond, Virginia.
He was born in Osage,
Iowa, known for its maple trees; one of four children born
to Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Vulk, Sr. He attended the Osage
Community Schools and helped his father on the farm until he
was 18 years of age when he voluntarily joined the U.S.
Navy. He was accepted on March 17, 1936 at Des Moines, Iowa.
His recruit training was at Great Lakes, Illinois. After
boot camp, he was assigned to the U.S.S. Wright, an aircraft
tender. Shortly after reporting, he volunteered for duty
with the Asiatic Fleet based in the Philippine Islands and
transferred to the U.S.S. Barker 213. He stayed with the
Asiatic Fleet for approximately four and a half years. He
served during World War II and the Korean War. He returned
to the United States in 1942 and retired in May of 1958 with
the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4, having served 22 years.
After leaving the service,
he skippered a yacht in San Diego, California. Later, he
joined the San Diego Unified School District as a custodian.
He left the school district as head custodian of the large
school and moved to Hurst, Texas to join his son-in-law in
the metrology business.
After some years, he and
his wife moved back to Osage, Iowa where he loved to fish,
garden and wood craft. In 1987, he and his wife moved to
Richmond, Virginia to be with their daughters, Cheryl and
Marilyn. He was committed to his family and friends, always
offering a helping hand, his country and his church.
He is survived by his
devoted wife of 66 years, Dorothy Ruth; his daughters,
Sandra King, Cheryl Langford and Marilyn Mays; his
grandchildren, Kim Rayburn (deceased), Scot Crawford, Bryan
Mays and Tyler King.

Miller

Marguerite C. Miller, age 90, of New Haven, passed away on
Friday, October 23, 2009, at the Manly Care Center in Manly.
A Mass of Christian Burial
was held at 2:00 p.m., on Monday, October 26, at the St.
Peter's Catholic Church in New Haven, with Rev. Ray E.
Atwood officiating. Burial was in the St. Peter's Catholic
Cemetery in New Haven.
Marguerite was born in
Kent, Minnesota, to Frank and Margaret (Elgas) Sullivan on
June 14, 1919. She attended Mount Mercy College in Cedar
Rapids and taught in the Mitchell County Country Schools. On
July 22, 1941, she married Maurice Miller. They made their
home and farmed near New Haven. Maurice preceded her in
death on June 17, 1979.
Marguerite is survived by
her children, Kenneth Miller of New Haven; Dorthy (Gene)
Sweeney of New Haven; Bob (Sally) Miller of New Haven; Ellen
(Brian) Hart of Montgomery, Texas; Ann (Randy) Hoel of Mason
City; 15 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
Preceding Marguerite in
death was her husband, Maurice.

Don Popp
October 27, 2009
Donald Lee Popp, age 71, of Osage, passed away unexpectedly
at his home on Saturday, October 24, 2009.
A Mass of Christian Burial
was held at 10:00 a.m., on Tuesday, October 27, at the
Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage, with Rev. John Moser
officiating. Burial was in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Don was born on January
18, 1938 in Mitchell County, the son of John and Frances
(Falk) Popp. He attended the Rock No. 1 Country School and
graduated from the Osage High School. He served in the Army
National Guard. On June 18, 1960, Don was united in marriage
to Mary Ann Halfman. From that union came four children.
Mary Ann passed away in 1992. Don worked construction and in
the late 1960's started Popp Excavating. On August 14, 1993,
Don was united in marriage to Jo (Hofmeister) Hackenmiller.
Don enjoyed fishing,
snowmobiling and pontooning, but his greatest passion was
working.
Don is survived by his
wife, Jo Popp of Osage; a son, Kevin (Carol) Popp of Osage
and their children, Travis and Hannah; a son, Keith (Audrey)
Popp of Osage and their son, Brian; a son, Kurt (Janet) Popp
of Osage and their children, Kyle, Jordan and Hailey; a
daughter, Kari Fox of Osage and her children, Seth, Lee and
Mary Ann; a son, Bob (Connie) Hackenmiller of Ventura and
their children, Drew, Mandy, Stacy and Ryan; a son, Tom
Hackenmiller of Stacyville; a son, Kevin Hackenmiller of
Cedar Rapids; a son, Keith Hackenmiller of Eagan, Minnesota;
a daughter, Julie (George) Rogerson of Burlington and their
daughter, Hattie; a daughter, Vicki (Scott) Brandau of Osage
and their children, Sidney, Samie and Sawyer; a daughter,
Kelly (Ryan) Molsberry of Hubert, North Carolina; a brother,
Melvin (Dorothy) Popp of Osage; and his mother-in-law,
Pauline Hofmeister of Osage.
He was preceded in death
by his wife, Mary Ann and his parents.

October 12, 1924 in Jones, Oklahoma, the daughter of Gerald
and Margaret (Reese) Mobley. Margaret was united in marriage
to Robert R. Barrick at the Methodist Church in Jones,
Oklahoma. They lived in Oklahoma and Texas before moving to
Osage in 1953. Margaret graduated from Oklahoma A & M with a
Degree in Fashion Design.
She was very active in
scouting. Margaret had a passion for her family, sewing and
her Boston Terriers.
Margaret is survived by
five children, Robert Barrick, Jr. of Kalona, Janet
(Michael) Lockie of Austin, Minnesota, Neil (Laurie) Barrick
of Johnston, Marilyn Boyd and friend, Roger DeGolier of
Leland and Reese Barrick of Hays, Kansas; eight
grandchildren, Katie Lockie, Jeremiah (Megan) Lockie, Daniel
Lockie, Micah Lockie, Courtney (John) Quinn, Andrew Barrick,
Kezia Boyd and Mahalia Barrick; three great-grandchildren,
Aliyah Lockie, Alexis Forsberg and Abbey Quinn.
She was preceded in death
by her husband, Rev. Robert Barrick in 2007; her parents;
and three brothers.

Mary Josephine
Louvar Stark
November 3, 2009
Mary Josephine Louvar Stark, died on Monday, October 26,
2009, at the Riceville Family Care and Therapy Center, at
the age of 79.
Funeral services were held
on Saturday, October 31, at 10:00 a.m., at the First
Congregational United Church of Christ, with Pastors Randy
Nichols, Dan Christensen and Mary Hatch officiating. Burial
was in the Riverside Cemetery in Riceville, Iowa.
Memorials may be made to
the Wapsi Trail, Riceville Library, Riceville Family Care
and Therapy Center or to the charity of your choice.

John P. Kloberdanz, age 86, of Osage, passed away on
Tuesday, October 27, 2009, at his home in Osage.
A Mass of Christian Burial
will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, October 30, at the
Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage, with Rev. John Moser
officiating. Inurnment will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-7:00 p.m., on Thursday, at the
Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, with a Rosary at
4:30 p.m. The family requests that in lieu of flowers
memorials be made to the Hospice of North Iowa, Mason City.
John was born on September
13, 1923 in Osage, to John and Rose (Lauer) Kloberdanz and
lived his entire life in Osage. While serving during World
War II, John was combat wounded. After serving his country,
he married Cassie Marley and they celebrated 64 years of
marriage. John was a rural mail carrier for over 35 years.
John is survived by
survived by his wife, Cassie of Osage; their five sons and
four daughters, Ed (Star Ann) of Shenandoah, Sue (Den) Bray
of Austin, Minnesota, Mark (Nan) of West Des Moines, Don
(Linda) of Waverly, Jean (Ray) Stockdale of Warrensburg,
Missouri, Tom (Karen) of Rochester, Minnesota, Dan (Debi) of
Cresco, Sally (Dale) Jenkins of Des Moines and Elaine
(Steve) Kuttenkuler of Kirksville, Missouri; 24
grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and one
great-great-grandchild; and two sisters in Osage, Katie
Arickx and Leona Niddrie.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; four brothers; three sisters; and his
beloved grandson, Michael Thomas.

Delores Sonnentag
November 3, 2009
Delores Sonnentag, age 82, of Osage, died on Thursday,
October 29, 2009, at the Mitchell County Regional Health
Center-Hospice Unit in Osage.
A Mass of Christian Burial
was held at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, November 2, at the Sacred
Heart Catholic Church in Osage, with Rev. John Moser
officiating. Burial was in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. The
Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home was in charge of the
arrangements.
Delores was born on July
19, 1927 in Clark County Wisconsin, the daughter of Jason
and Elsie (Berthold) Bostwick. She married Francis Sonnentag
in October of 1946 in Neillsville, Wisconsin. They moved to
Osage in 1950. Delores was an aide at the Faith Lutheran
Home. She enjoyed reading.
Delores is survived by a daughter, Sandra Bowers of
Longmont, Colorado; two grandchildren, Philip J. Torney of
Aurora, Colorado and Eve L. Torney of Phoenix, Arizona; and
a brother, Donald J. Bostwick of Sand Lake, New York.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband,
Francis in 1994; and two sisters, Gladys and Beatrice.

Rita Abens
November 3, 2009
Rita Abens, age 75, of Osage, died on Friday, October 30,
2009, at the Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in
Osage.
Funeral services were held
at 1:30 p.m., on Tuesday, November 3, at the Our Savior's
Lutheran Church in Osage, with Rev. Dennis Hanson and Rev.
Roy Ott officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date.
Visitation was from 4-7:00 p.m., on Monday, at the
Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.
Rita was born on June 14,
1934 in Rutland, Iowa, the daughter of Forest and Jennie
(Johnson) DeGroote. She grew up in the Methodist church and
was active in youth group and 4-H. Rita graduated from the
Humboldt High School in 1952. Rita married Howard Abens on
December 28, 1954, at the St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Bode,
Iowa. Rita worked as a secretary, getting her PHT (Putting
Hubby Through College) degree. Her primary occupation was
homemaker as she raised four children. She served as office
assistant in her husband's chiropractic office during the
empty nest years.
Rita was active after her
marriage in the Lutheran church as a Sunday School teacher
and as a Vacation Bible School teacher and Superintendent.
She completed the Bethel Bible Series Course and then taught
it to other adults. Rita was active in her women's group,
the Rachel Circle at her church and hosted Bible studies in
their home. She had a hobby of knitting dishcloths, as well
as doing other handiwork and enjoyed china painting for many
years. Rita and Howard enjoyed traveling to all 50 states
and 13 foreign countries, including seven cruises.
Rita is survived by her
husband, Dr. Howard Abens of Osage; four children, Peggy
(Bob) Appel of Altoona, Patty (Jon) Fredrickson of
Jacksonville, Florida, Jim (Kathy) Abens of Eau Claire,
Wisconsin and Stu (Temi) Abens of Waco, Texas; 16
grandchildren, Megan Abens, Christopher Abens, Amy Abens,
Joshua Fredrickson, Katelyn Fredrickson, Alana (Micah)
Hildreth, Aaron Appel, Daniel Appel, Matthew Abens, Monica
Abens, Connor Abens, Grant Abens, Jordan (Justin) Mechell,
Seth Stanford, Cody Stanford and Jesse Stanford; two
sisters, Marjorie Vance of Humboldt and Val Williams of
Rhinelander, Wisconsin.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; her brothers, Douglas and Arvin DeGroote; a
sister, Charlotte Schafer; and a grandson, Bobby Appel.
