Corliss C. Baty
December 8, 2009
Corliss C. Baty, 64, of Maquoketa, died on Sunday, December
6, 2009, at the Jackson County Regional Health Center in
Maquoketa.
A Celebration of his Life
will be held at the Maquoketa Eagles Club on Saturday,
December 12, from 1-3:00 p.m. The Cremation Society of
Eastern Central Western Iowa is assisting the family. In
lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Eagles
Auxiliary for their causes.
Corliss Cecil Baty was
born on November 7, 1945. He married Susanne Claire Birdsall
on March 1, 1969 in Osage, Iowa. Corliss was known for his
kind heart and his sense of justice. He took great pleasure
in his friends and family. He'll be remembered for his dry
wit. Under his tough exterior resided a heart of gold.
He is survived by his
father, Jackson N. Baty; his two daughters, Emily Baty and
Erin (Solomon) Miller; his sister, Jean (Sean) Baty Young;
and many extended family members and dear, dear friends.
Corliss was preceded in
death by his mother, Jeanette Baty; and his wife, Susanne
Baty.

Vera Jean Boerjan
December 15, 2009
Vera Jean Boerjan, age 74, of Little Cedar, died on Friday,
December 11, 2009, at the Clarinda Regional Health Center in
Clarinda.
Funeral services will be
held at 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, December 15, at the
Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, with Rev. Peter
Chang officiating. Burial will be in the Little Cedar
Cemetery in Little Cedar. Visitation is from 4:30 to 7:00
p.m., on Monday, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in
Osage.
Vera was born on May 8,
1935 at Little Cedar, Iowa, the daughter of Merril and Ruth
(Sanders) Loney. She was a beloved mother, who spent many
years living and working on the farm, raising her children
and then spent many years at the Mitchell County Care
Facility. Her greatest love was spending time with her
family.
Survivors include two
sons, Tom (Robbin) Boerjan of Rock Falls, Illinois and Edd
(Shauna) Boerjan of Roanoke, Indiana; three daughters, Deb
(Dennis) Smith of Paton, Beck Boerjan (Debbie Mabon) of
Colorado Springs, Colorado and Dee Ann (Frank) Gamel of
Hamburg, New York; sister, Sharon (Fred) Cook of The
Villages, Florida; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren;
and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; her brother, Dean Loney; and nephew, Dan
Loney.

Joseph Schultz

Joseph Schultz, age 87, of
Osage, died on Sunday, December 13, 2009, at the North
Memorial Residential Hospice in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial
will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, December 19, at the
Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage, with Rev John Moser
officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in
Osage. Visitation is from 4-8:00 p.m., on Friday, at the
Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, with a Rosary at
4:30 p.m. and a Scripture Wake Service at 7:00 p.m.
He was born on March 5,
1922 in Cross Village, Michigan, the son of Frank and Anna
(Swiss) Schultz. Joe was united in marriage to Ruth Fleenor
on September 29, 1945 in Chicago, Illinois. In 1948, they
moved to Osage. He farmed and was employed at White Farm in
Charles City.
Joe was a member of the
Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He enjoyed playing cribbage
and watching football and baseball on TV.
Joe is survived by two
daughters, Sandra (Joe) Nanti of Mounds View, Minnesota and
Judy (Rick) Edgcumbe of New Brighton, Minnesota; four
grandchildren, Melissa Nanti, David Nanti, Chris Edgcumbe
and Andy Edgcumbe; a great-grandson, Zachary Nanti; four
sisters-in-law, Wanda Schultz of Chesterfield, Michigan,
Mary Schultz of Chicago, Illinois, Mary Belle Horgen of
Osage and Betty (Roger) Moore of Elgin, Illinois; and many
nieces and nephews.
Joe was preceded in death
by his parents; his wife, Ruth Schultz in 2007; five
brothers, Lewis Walter, Leo, Ed and Mike; and two sisters,
Sophie Schultz and Dorothy Dzedzie.

Vivian Louise Orman
December 15, 2009
Mason City-Vivian Louise Orman, 92, Mason City, died on
Sunday, December 13, 2009, at the Muse-Norris Hospice
Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
Funeral services will be
held at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, December 17, at the First
United Methodist Church Wayside Chapel, Mason City, with
Reverend Jim Stiles officiating. Burial will be in the
Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City. Visitation will be from
5-7:00 p.m., on Wednesday, at the Hogan-Bremer-Moore
Colonial Chapel, Mason City. Visitation will also be held
one hour prior to the service time on Thursday at the
church. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions
may be made to the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in her
memory.
Vivian Louise Orman, was
born on February 1, 1917 in Webster City, the daughter of
Charles and Sadie (Pfliger) Adams. She received her
education in the Mitchell, Iowa Community Schools. Vivian
was united in marriage to Gerald Orman on November 14, 1937
in St. Ansgar. Gerald preceded her in death on January 15,
1990. After their marriage Vivian and Gerald farmed for
several years in Mitchell County before moving to Mason
City. During her life, Vivian worked for the National Tea
and Clifton's Grocery Stores in Mason City and also worked
for Arlans Department Store in Mason City until her
retirement.
Vivian enjoyed bowling,
camping, crocheting and knitting, but her great love and
enjoyment was her family, grandchildren and
great-grandchildren.
She was a member of the
First United Methodist Church in Mason City.
Those left to cherish her
memory are her children, Virgil (Barb) Orman of Mason City
and Merlin (Mary) Orman of Galena, Missouri; seven
grandchildren, Deb (Ken) Jorgensen of Mason City, Lori
(John) Phelps of Little Rock, Arkansas, Steve (Leslie) Orman
of Fairgrove, Missouri, Chris (Jennifer) Orman of Mason
City, David (Lynda) Orman of Ames, Stacey (Scott Rye) Orman
of Knoxville, Tennessee and Andrea Orman of Minneapolis,
Minnesota; eight great-grandchildren, Josselyn and Hayse
Jorgensen, Annabel Phelps and McGuire, Avery, Gage, Alex and
Craig Orman; two brothers, Charles (Sonja) Adams of Arizona
City, Arizona and Richard Adams of Waterloo; two sisters,
Genevieve (LeRoy) Walters of Osage and Mildred Valasek of
Osage; as well as other extended family members and friends.
Vivian was preceded in
death by her parents; husband, Gerald; a brother, Bill
Adams; two sisters, Geraldine Johnson and Betty Brookings;
and a daughter-in-law, Mary Orman.

Mary J. Scholer

Mary J. Scholer, age 80, of Deephaven, Minnesota, died on
Sunday, December 13, 2009, at the Golden Valley
Rehabilitation Care Center.
A Celebration Of Life was
held at the Excelsior United Methodist Church, on Monday,
December 21, 2009. At Mary's request, her body was cremated.
Inurnment will be at a later date in the Osage Cemetery.
Mary was born on June 6,
1929 in Lake City, Minnesota, the daughter of Ollie C. and
Blanche E. (Jones) Holcomb. The Holcomb family purchased The
Daylight Store and moved to Osage, Iowa in 1945. Mary
graduated from the Osage High School in 1947. She then
attended the St. Mary's Hospital Nursing School in
Rochester, Minnesota and received her degree.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; and older sister, Joan (Holcomb) Burnham.
Mary is survived by her
four children, Judy Scholer, Debra Guenther, Ann Griffin and
Timothy Scholer, all of the Minneapolis, Minnesota area; and
her brother, Sam Holcomb of Osage.

Norma Lee Jacobs
December 22, 2009
Norma Lee Jacobs, age 79,
of Osage, passed away on Tuesday, December 15, 2009, at the
St. John's Regional Medical Center in Joplin, Missouri.
Funeral services were held
at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, December 19, at the First
Congregational Church, U.C.C. in Orchard, Iowa, with Pastor
Jan Tjaden officiating. Burial was in the Osage Cemetery.
Visitation was from 4-6:00 p.m., on Friday, at the
Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage. Memorials may be
given to the American Diabetes Association.
Norma was the daughter of
Henry and Lola (Penney) Johnson of Osage, Iowa. She was
united in marriage to Galen Oscar Jacobs on June 12, 1949.
Galen and Norma lived near New Haven and farmed most of
their married life.
Surviving children of
Norma are Rene (Larry) Killion of Joplin, Missouri, Linda
Jacobs of Marshfield, Missouri, Janell Routledge of Carl
Junction, Missouri, David (Holly) Jacobs of Asbury, Missouri
and Mark (April) Jacobs of Carl Junction, Missouri; 17
grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law,
Francis (Joann) Jacobs of Osage and Jack Williams of
Strawberry Point; sister-in-law, Vera (Richard) Gajewski of
Baltimore, Maryland; as well as a good number of nieces and
nephews.
Preceding Norma in death
were her parents; her husband, Galen; her son, Charles Dean
Jacobs; brother, Clifford Johnson; and sister-in-law,
Josephine Williams.

Jurene L. Slindee
December 22, 2009
Jurene
L. Slindee, age 83, of Lyle, died on Thursday morning,
December 17, 2009, at the Good Samaritan Society of St.
Ansgar, Iowa.
Funeral services were held
at 1:30 p.m., on Sunday, December 20, at the Mona Lutheran
Church, Mona, Iowa, with Pastor Lydia Mittag officiating.
Visitation was from 5-7:00 p.m., on Saturday, at the Worlein
Funeral Home in Austin and one hour prior to the services at
the church on Sunday. Interment was in the First Lutheran
Cemetery, St. Ansgar. Memorials are preferred to the donor's
choice.
She was born on March 24,
1926, to Bernard and Pearl E. (Grovo) Stubberud in Otranto
Township, Mitchell County, Iowa. Jurene grew up and received
her education in the Mona, Iowa and Lyle, Minnesota areas.
She married Algie Burnett Slindee on April 1, 1944 in Lyle,
Minnesota. The couple owned and operated the Ortranto Garage
from 1953 to 1955.
They were members of the
Mona Lutheran Church and founding members of the Cedar
Valley Engine Club. Jurene enjoyed dancing, playing her
accordion and her animals. They farmed in the Lyle area and
later moved to Charles City, before returning to rural Lyle
in 1968. Algie died on July 31, 1976. In 1982 and Jurene
married Conrad Peterson, who later died of cancer. Jurene
entered the Good Samaritan Society of St. Ansgar on October
18, 2006.
Survivors include her son,
Algie (Kay) Slindee of rural Elma, Iowa; her daughter,
Terrie (Steven) Nitardy of Grand Rapids, Minnesota; four
grandchildren, Sonja (Mike) Cotton of Charles City, Brent
(Terry) Slindee of Elma, Nadia Slindee of Iowa City and
Ashley (Daniel) Shankle of Superior, Wisconsin; four
great-grandchildren, Mija Cotton, Joslyn Cotton, Kaleb
Cotton and Elijah Shankle; two step-great-granddaughters,
Shannon Loeckle and Leah Strouf; daughter-in-law, Linda
Slindee of Austin, Minnesota; half brothers and sisters,
Bonnie (Donald) Franks of Rock Falls, Illinois, Annette
(Harvey) Henrix of Pekin, Illinois, Steven (Marge) Stubberud
of Waterloo, Iowa and Carla (Patrick) Gionson of Eagle
River, Alaska; sister-in-law, Mary Slinde of Rose Creek;
many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; husbands, Algie and Conrad; son, Emanuel;
brother, Emmanuel Stubberud; and two half brothers, Gene and
Mervin Dale Stubberud.

Gilbert Edward
Erdmann
December 22, 2009
Gilbert Edward Erdmann,
age 88, of Osage, died on Friday, December 18, 2009, at the
Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Osage.
Memorial services were
held at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, December 21, at the
Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, with Pastor Paul
Brown and Pastor Gary Gilbert officiating. Inurnment was in
the Osage Cemetery, with military honors at the grave by the
Osage American Legion Post 278. A gathering of family and
friends was held from 4-6:00 p.m., on Sunday, at the
Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home.
Gilbert was born on
February 17, 1921 in Faribault, Minnesota, the son of Arthur
and Eda (Morsching) Erdmann. He attended the Osage Schools.
Gilbert served in the U.S. Army during World War II from
1943-1946. He married Eleanor White on July 4, 1948. Gilbert
drove school bus and was a bus mechanic for the Osage
Schools for many years. He also worked for Winnebago
Industries and drove the transport bus for himself and
co-workers from Osage to Forest City. Gilbert retired in
1983.
Gilbert is survived by
five children, Kenneth (Mary Kay) Erdmann of Plymouth,
Judith (Joel) Voaklander of Osage, Cheryl (Alan) Adams of
Osage, Kevin Erdmann of Osage and Christine (Troy)
Levenhagen of Mason City; grandchildren, Doug Erdmann, Dawn
Erdmann, Ben (Jen) Voaklander, Darin (Tracie) Voaklander,
Brent Voaklander, Nathan Voaklander, Travis Adams,
Christopher (Christina) Adams, Stephanie (Duane) Thompson,
Courtney, Jona and Cameron Levenhagen; great-grandchildren,
Haley, William and Adam Voaklander, Lauren, Gwen, Ava and
Brycen Voaklander, Johonna, and Nathaniel Thompson and
Eleanor Adams; and one sister, Eveline Sorg of Naples,
Florida.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; and his wife, Eleanor in 2005.

Don is survived by his

Dorothy A.
Schuttler
December 22, 2009
Dorothy A. Schuttler, 78,
of rural Grafton, died on Saturday, December 19, 2009, at
the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center.
Funeral services were held
on Tuesday, December 22, at 7:00 p.m., at the Schroeder &
Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar, with Rev. Rose Marie Nack
officiating. Visitation was held prior to the services on
Tuesday, from 5:30 to 7:00. Burial was in the Grafton
Cemetery. The Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home of St. Ansgar,
was in charge of the arrangements.
Dorothy was born on August
31, 1931 in Barton Township, Worth County, Iowa, to Otto and
Hildegaard (Bartz) Diedrich. She was baptized and confirmed
at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Grafton, Iowa. Dorothy was
united in marriage to Fred Schuttler on April 9,1950, to
which three sons were born.
Dorothy loved sewing,
crocheting, baking and dancing. She will be missed by her
family and friends.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; and husband, Fred in October of 1983.
Dorothy is survived by
three sons, Larry (Cheryl), Gary (Tammy) and Gene (Karen);
five grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 2
great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; and one
step-great-great-grandson.

Robert L. Mork
December 22, 2009
Robert L. Mork, age 72, of
Osage, passed away on Saturday, December 19, 2009, at the
University of Wisconsin Hospitals in Madison, Wisconsin.
A Mass of Christian Burial
was held at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, December 22, 2009, at
the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage, with Rev. John
Moser officiating. Private family burial was in the St.
Peter's Catholic Cemetery in New Haven.
Robert was born on March
9, 1937 in Osage, to Robert and Vivian (Brunner) Mork. He
was united in marriage to Carolyn Johnson on November 9,
1962 in Davenport, Iowa. Robert played softball for over 30
years and was at his best when he played for the Harvester
Club in Rock Island, Illinois. On June 27, 2003, Bob
received a lung transplant from Michelle Mathes. We are
forever grateful for the six and one half years he was given
with us because of the transplant. Bob valued his time and
spent as much time with his loved ones as he could,
especially his little angel Cassidy. He donated his organs
to the transplant program for their research to help future
transplant recipients. He also enjoyed fishing, golfing and
was a huge fan of the Chicago Bears and Cubs. Robert enjoyed
and loved his family most of all.
Robert is survived by his
wife, Carolyn Mork of Osage; 3 children, David (Tonya) Mork
of Maryville, Tennessee, Cynthia (Larry) Billings of
Eldridge and Debbie (Kenny) Boge of Orchard; 13
grandchildren, Chris, Jackie, Joshua, Jessica, Tiffani,
Tabatha, Brittani, Ryan, Karl, Jason, Colton, Tyson and
Cassidy; 11 great-grandchildren, Genesis, Clayton, Marissa,
Trinity, Ashley, Krista, Katlyn, Christopher, Jazmine, Alvin
and Ethan; 2 sisters, Nadine Mork of New Haven and Susan
Schwab of Osage; a brother, Gary (Marilyn) Mork of Mitchell.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; sisters-in-law, Violet Mork and Rose
Johnson; and brother-in-law, Bill Johnson.

Mary L. Schersach, age 94, of Osage, died on Monday,
December 21, 2009, at the Osage Rehabilitation and Health
Care Center in Osage.

Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage, with Rev. John Moser

Mary was born on July 15,
1915 in Cedar Township, Mitchell County, Iowa, the daughter
of Fred and Mary Louise (Heal) Schersach. She worked as a
registered nurse at the Osage Clinic.
Mary was a member of the
Sacred Heart Church, Women's Club and the Study Club. She
enjoyed family activities and vacations.
Mary is survived by
nephews, Richard (Mary Ellen) Kelly of Glendale Heights,
Illinois, Fred J. (Ann) Kelly of Portland, Oregon, Francis
(Susan) Kelly of Snoqualmie, Washington and Kevin (Janet)
Kelly of San Diego, California; 11 great-nieces and nephews;
and 10 great-great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; and a sister, Catherine E. (Schersach)
Kelly.

John Allan French

John Allan French, age 54, of Charles City, died on
Wednesday, December 23, 2009, at the Floyd County Memorial
Hospital in Charles City.
A Mass of Christian Burial
will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, December 30, at
the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage, with Rev. John
Moser officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart
Cemetery in Osage. Visitation is from 4-6:30 p.m., on
Tuesday, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, with
a scripture wake service at 4:30 p.m.
John was born on January
25, 1955 in Osage, the son of James and Mary Helen (Gerhartz)
French. He attended the Sacred Heart Catholic School and
Osage High School. John was employed by Sara Lee in New
Hampton and retired from there due to ill health.
He was a member of the
Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Knights of
Columbus, both in Charles City.
John is survived by his
mother, Mary Helen French of Osage; his sister, Cathy French
of Osage; his brother, Gary French of Charles City; his
brother-in-law, David Krietemeyer; and his nephew, John
Krietemeyer of Evansville, Indiana.
He was preceded in death
by his father, James French; his brother, Robert French; and
his sister, Diann Krietemeyer.

Ernest Jeffries
December 29, 2009
Ernest Jeffries, 81, of
Osage, died on Friday, December 25, 2009, at the Faith
Lutheran Home, Osage, Iowa.
Funeral services were held
at 2:00 p.m., on Tuesday, December 29, at the Our Savior's
Lutheran Church, Osage. Officiating was the Rev. Roy Ott.
Visitation was one hour prior to the services at the church.
Interment was in the Osage Cemetery. Those planning an
expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the
Hospice of New Hampton.
Ernest F. Jeffries, was
born on January 22, 1928 in Mitchell County, the son of Earl
and Gustava "Johnson" Jeffries. His early education was in
Osage. On April 15, 1946, he joined the Army and served at
Guam and the Philippines during WW II and was honorable
discharged as a Corporal on October 15, 1947. He was united
in marriage to Joan Faber on September 29, 1954 at the
Little Brown Church in Nashua. To this union was born three
children. Since 1955 they lived in Charles City, moving in
their later years to Tampa, Florida and then coming full
circle back to Osage five years ago. Earnie started his work
career as a truck driver delivering eggs for Cedar Valley
Produce and then became a heavy equipment operator for 25
years with Triad Construction in Charles City. The last 15
years of his career he operated equipment for the City of
Charles City retiring about 1994.
Through the years they
were members of Our Savior's Lutheran and then St. John
Evangelical Lutheran in Charles City and then when moving
back to Osage again became members of Our Savior's. He
enjoyed tending his vegetable garden, camping with his
family in and around Charles City and spending time with his
grandchildren. While in Tampa he became a Buccaneer Football
Fan. They also were regular volunteers with the Salvation
Army in Charles City. Earnie was known to look at a problem,
think about it and then fix just about anything.
Those thankful in sharing
in Ernest's life include his wife of 55 years, Joan; his
three children, Connie and her husband, Alvin Blackburn of
Zion, Illinois, Kathy and her husband, David Logan of Round
Rock, Texas and Kevin and his wife, Jamey Jeffries of Tampa,
Florida; six grandchildren, Jenny (Mike) Bateman, Marshal
(Danielle) Blackburn, Stephanie (Nick) Valentin, Chris
Logan, Patty and Sarah Jeffries; two great-grandchildren,
Evan and Alyssa Bateman; his sister, Nancy Nutt of
Coralville; both brothers, Orland (Nancy) Jeffries of Iowa
City and Francis (Muriel) Jeffries of Naples, Florida; and
several nieces and nephews.
His parents,
parents-in-law and two brother-in-laws, preceded him in
death.

Phyllis Drake
December 31, 2009
Phyllis Julia Ann Drake (Kuhn), 87, was received into the
Lord's care with family at her side, on (Christmas Day)
December 25, 2009, in Honolulu, Hawaii.
The service and interment
of ashes, will be in The National Memorial Cemetery of the
Pacific (Punchbowl National Cemetery), at 2:00 p.m., on
Friday, January 8, 2010. Arrangements made by the Hawaiian
Memorial Park Mortuary. In lieu of flowers the family
suggests memorials be made to the American Martyrs Retreat
House, Cedar Falls, Iowa or to the charity of your choice.
Phyllis was the daughter
of the late Sylvester Lawrence and Elizabeth Erwin Kuhn
(Sullivan). She was a graduate of the Osage Community High
School and attended the Hamilton Business College in Mason
City, before working as a Secretary for the U. S. Air Force
Personnel Office at the Pentagon during World War II.
She loved and cared for
her family during their many tours of duty on the Mainland,
Japan and Germany in their Military careers. Phyllis was
born in Osage, Iowa and lived in Hawaii since her husband's
retirement from the U.S. Army in 1962. She will be
remembered for her many years of gracious hospitality in
making family and friends always feel welcome in their home.
She was a long time
devoted member of the Holy Family Catholic Church in
Honolulu. Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother
Church, Phyllis left us with a great deal of dignity and
grace. Mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt,
great-aunt, cousin, godmother and friend of many. She will
be sorely missed by all.
Phyllis is survived by her
sons, Lincoln T. (Mary Jane), John M. (Nina); brothers, Fr.
Richard Kuhn and Robert (Kathye); sisters, Joan Guest,
Kathryn Peterman, Sr. Mary Jeanine Kuhn, PBVM and Betty
(Ron) Lovejoy; grandchildren, Lincoln J. (Tina), James M.C.
(Teresa) and Amanda Drake; great-grandson, Morgan Drake; and
godchildren, Frank Guest and James Kuhn.
She was predeceased in
death by LTC Lincoln C., her beloved husband of 58 years in
2002; her brother, James P. Kuhn in 1969; brother-in-law,
Rear Admiral Frank Guest in 1977; godchild, Ann Viskocil in
2005; and niece, Sr. Marcia Guest, O.S.M. in 2008.
A special thank you to the
Doctors and Nursing Staff at the Tripler Army Medical
Hospital for your kind and compassionate care for mother
during her last few days.

Ella Finley

Ella Isabel Finley, age
102, died on Monday, December 28, 2009, at the Riceville
Family Care and Therapy Center in Riceville.
Funeral services will be
held at 1:00 p.m., on Thursday, December 31, at the
Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, with Pastor Ole
Winter officiating. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery.
Visitation is from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m., on Thursday, at the
Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.
Ella Isabel Finley, was
born on April 21, 1907, to Frank and Emma (Himes) Cooper in
Tama County. At the age of seven, Ella moved with her family
to a farmstead near LeRoy, Minnesota, on the State Line
Road. Ella attended rural country school. In her early
years, Ella worked in Marshalltown at a gauge factory. She
met her future husband at a box social in Marshall County.
On April 5, 1930, she married Paul Finley at the Little
Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. To this union two sons were
born, Wayne and Merlyn. Ella farmed side by side with Paul
on a farm west of Riceville. The couple retired to Osage in
1971. Ella moved to Decorah in 1998 and currently was a
resident at the Riceville Family Care and Therapy Center.
Ella's pride and joy were
her sons, Wayne and Merlyn. As a product of the Great
Depression, she always wanted life to be easier for her
boys. Ella was known for opening her home to her extended
family. She created beautiful hand work and loved to square
dance.
Ella is survived by her
sons, Wayne (Dawn) Finley of Northwood and Merlyn (Shirley)
Finley of Decorah; sister, Frankie Kent of Adams, Minnesota;
grandchildren, Connie Phillips, Pattie Beck, Debbie Holm,
Doug Finley, David Finley, Laurie Even and Mark Finley;
sisters-in-law, Faith Tompkins of Houston, Texas and Chris
Finley of Waterloo; and several great and
great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded death by
her parents; husband, Paul in 1995; and sister, Arlene
Roesler.
The Champion-Bucheit
Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
