Larry E. Ellingson

Larry E. Ellingson, age
71, of Strasburg, North Dakota and formerly of Osage, died
on Monday, November 3, 2008, in the Linton Hospital, Linton,
North Dakota.
Funeral services will be
held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, November 8, at the
Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, with the Rev. R.
Dawson Tornes officiating. Burial will be in the Rock Creek
Cemetery, rural Osage, with military honors at the grave by
the Osage American Legion Post 278. Visitation will be from
9:30 to 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, at the Champion-Bucheit
Funeral Home.
Larry E. Ellingson, was
born on August 26, 1937 in St. Ansgar, Iowa, the son of
Martin and Laura (Kollman) Ellingson. He attended school in
Osage and graduated from the Osage High School in 1956.
Larry proudly served in the U.S. Armed Forces in the U.S.
Navy and the U.S. Marine Corps for four years. Larry married
Sharon Lunde on December 21, 1958 in Osage. Following their
marriage, Larry worked as a lab/x-ray technician in several
places, including Floyd, Iowa, Minneapolis, Minnesota,
Gregory and Burke, South Dakota.
Larry worked as a hospital
and nursing home administrator in Platte, South Dakota and
then attended Augsburg College and Luther Theological
Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota. He continued to work as a
hospital administrator in Winterset, Iowa, Linton, North
Dakota, Fort Sumner, New Mexico and Gooding, Idaho. For the
past six years, they had been living in Strasburg, North
Dakota.
He was a member of the
Masons and the Linton Lions. Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing,
home improvement projects and visiting with family and
friends.
Larry is survived by his
wife, Sharon of Strasburg, North Dakota; two sons and two
daughters-in-law, Martin and Karin Ellingson of Tucson,
Arizona and David and Renae Ellingson of Strasburg, North
Dakota; one daughter and son-in-law, Marie and David
Anderson of St. Peter, Minnesota; nine grandchildren, Ravan,
Drewcilla and Riley Ellingson, Brandon and Lauren Ellingson,
Clinton, Gregory and Lindsay McDonald and Randi Anderson;
three brothers and three sisters-in-law, Marloe and Alice
Ellingson of Osage, Sheryl and Rose Ellingson of Osage and
Garry and Sharon Ellingson of Austin, Minnesota.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; two sisters, Kathryn Asfahl and Delores
Robinson; and two brothers, Morris and Merle.

Evelyn J. Brumm
November 6, 2008
Evelyn Julia Brumm, age
85, died on Tuesday, November 4, 2008, at her home in Osage,
after a short battle with cancer.
A Mass of Christian Burial
will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, November 7, at the
Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage, with Rev. John Moser
officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in
Osage. Visitation is from 3-8:00 p.m., on Thursday, at the
Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, with a rosary at
3:30 p.m. and a scripture wake service at 7:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers,
donations can be made to the Sacred Heart Church and School
in Osage or Catholic Charities.
Evelyn Julia (May) Brumm,
was born on October 9, 1923 in Meyer, Iowa, the daughter of
Henry and Anna (Hackenmiller) May. She was educated and
graduated from the Sacred Heart School in Meyer in 1936.
Evelyn was united in marriage to Ralph Brumm on August 7,
1948, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Meyer. They
farmed near Stacyville, Iowa until 1954 when they moved to a
farm west of Osage, farming there until 1963. They then
moved to an acreage west of Osage. They retired in 1988 and
moved to Osage.
Evelyn lived a
faith-filled life of service to God and others through her
family, her church and her community.
Her survivors include her
three sons, Michael (Janet) Brumm of North Mankato,
Minnesota, Loren (Margaret) Brumm of Iowa City and Thomas
(Heather) Brumm of Ames; seven daughters, Lois (Richard)
Przywojski of LaCrosse, Wisconsin, Cheryl (Patrick) Regan of
Des Moines, Mary (Michael) Hughes of Brooklyn Center,
Minnesota, Susan (Philippe) Fortin of Seekonk,
Massachusetts, Jeri (Bryan) Wheeler of Bloomington,
Minnesota, Barbara (Larry) Vareberg of Rochester, Minnesota
and Janelle (David) Kerr of Des Moines; two brothers,
Frederick (Dorothy) May of Rose Creek, Minnesota and Anthony
May of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin; sister-in-law, Regina May of
Stacyville; godmother, Julia Koenigs of Adams, Minnesota; 29
grandchildren; and many godchildren, nieces and nephews.
Evelyn was preceded in
death by her parents; her husband, Ralph; sisters, Dorothy
May, Elizabeth Martyniak, Olivia Pitzen and Sr. Margaret
May; and brothers, Bernard, Edmund, Clement and Othmar May.

Jo Ann Squier
November 6, 2008
Jo Ann Squier, age 70, of
rural Riceville, died on Wednesday, November 5, 2008, at her
home, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be
held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, November 8, at the First
United Methodist Church in Osage, with Rev. Anna Blaedel
officiating. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery.
Visitation is from 5-8:00 p.m., on Friday, at the
Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.
Jo Ann was born on January
31, 1938 at Osage, Iowa, the daughter of Walter W. and
Marcella E. (Green) Sheldon. She graduated from the Osage
High School in 1955. Jo Ann married Maurice "Skip" Counsell
on June 3, 1956 in Osage. Maurice passed away on February
12, 1974. She married Gene Squier on March 5, 1977 in Osage.
Jo Ann worked most recently as the Riceville Deputy City
Clerk. She previously worked as a farm wife, bookkeeper,
dental assistant, homemaker health aide and self-employed
crafter, in addition to her most important duties as that of
mom and grandmother.
Jo Ann was a member of the
First United Methodist Church in Osage since 1952, where she
was a member of various church organizations. She served as
the Sunday service facilitator at the Mitchell County Care
Facility for a number of years. Jo Ann was instrumental with
the restoration and maintenance of the Beaver Creek
(Brownville) Cemetery since 1978. She was a local organizer
of the Riceville Blood Drive for 30 years and was on the
American Red Cross District Board for several years. Jo Ann
was a 4-H Leader. She was also a volunteer for the Easter
Seals Society and was a former local Farm Bureau President.
Jo Ann enjoyed baking, crocheting, knitting, gardening,
sewing, and loved birds.
Jo Ann is survived by her
husband, Gene Squier of Riceville; children, Merry (Jim)
Spiers of Grant City, Missouri, Donald (Shelly) Counsell of
Orchard, Denise Counsell of Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota,
Deanna Counsell and Mark Muth of Delano, Minnesota and
Heather (Pete) Rysavy of St. Ansgar; three brothers, Gary (Vieta)
Sheldon of Phillipsburg, Missouri, Walter (Sharon) Sheldon
of Osage and Allyn (Darlene) Sheldon of Osage; a sister,
Sharon (Howard) Shaw of Osage; grandchildren, Derek and Cole
Counsell, Merrideth Spiers and Logan Rysavy; mother-in-law,
Norma Squier of Stacyville; and nieces, nephews, and
cousins.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; her first husband, Maurice D. Counsell;
Loren and Grace Bucknell, who helped raise her; step-mother,
Alzina Sheldon; and father-in-law, Paul Squier.

Richard "Dick" Gast
November 11, 2008
Richard L. "Dick" Gast, age 84, of Osage, died on Friday,
November 7, 2008, at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.
Funeral services will be
held at 2:00 p.m., on Tuesday, November 11, at the Rock
Creek Lutheran Church, Osage, with Rev. R. Dawson Tornes
officiating. Burial will be in the Rock Creek Cemetery, with
Military Honors conducted by the Osage V.F.W. Post 7920 and
the Osage American Legion Post 278. Visitation is from
4-7:00 p.m., on Monday, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home
in Osage and will continue one hour before the services at
the church.
Dick was born on January
20, 1924 near Nora Springs, the son of Clifford and Alma
(Paulson) Gast. Dick attended schools in Osage. In 1940,
Dick was a state high school wrestling champion, as was his
brother George, they were the first brothers to win state
titles, in the state of Iowa, in the same year. He graduated
from the Osage High School in 1941.
Dick was united in
marriage to Lyla Hackbart on July 28, 1944, at the Immanuel
Lutheran Church in Osage. He was then in the US Navy from
1944 to 1946. Dick farmed, worked at the Osage Feed and
Seed, and for the Iowa Department of Agriculture as an Ag
Products Inspector. Dick was a member of the Rock Creek
Lutheran Church, a charter member of the Osage V.F.W. Post
7920 and a member of the Osage American Legion Post 278.
Dick enjoyed attending sporting events and playing cribbage,
in which he once had a perfect hand. Dick loved, most of
all, spending time with his family.
Dick is survived by his
wife, Lyla Gast of Osage; three sons, Ron (Jane) Gast of
Monticello and their children, Tracy and Trevor, Bruce
(Cheryl) Gast of Osage and their children, Ben and Matt, Del
(Karen) Gast of Osage and their children, Carly and Jessie;
8 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Bill (Colleen) Gast of
Nora Springs; 1 sister, Marlys (Clarence) Wegman of Inver
Grove Heights, Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; a daughter, Nancy Gast; brothers and
sisters-in-law, Clyndon (Beatrice) Gast and George (Violette)
Gast; and a nephew, Jerry Gast

Theodore John
Muller
November 11, 2008
Theodore John Muller, age 85, of Osage, died on Monday,
November 10, 2008, at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.
Funeral services will be
held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, November 14, 2008, at the St.
John's Lutheran Church south of Osage, with Pastor Byron
Northwick officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary
Cemetery. Visitation is from 10-11:00 a.m., on Friday, at
the St. John's Lutheran Church.
Theodore was born on
October 7, 1923, on the family farm in Cedar Township,
Mitchell County, the son of John H. and Emilie (Troge)
Muller. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith
at the St. John's Lutheran Church. He attended Osage
Schools.
Theodore farmed his entire
life. He was a lifelong member of the St. John's Lutheran
Church, where he served in various capacities on several
boards and committees. Theodore also served on the Faith
Lutheran Home Board of Directors.
Theodore is survived by a
sister, Eilene Muller (Vern) Morische of rural Rudd; six
nieces and nephews; many great-nieces and great-nephews; as
well as many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; two sisters, Leona Muller and Lorene Muller
Brand; two brothers, Lloyd and Eldred Muller; a
sister-in-law, Laura Muller; and a brother-in-law, James
Brand.

Carlene Wigant
November 18, 2008
Carlene Wigant, age 91, of
Osage, passed away on Sunday, November 16, 2008, at the
Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage.
According to her wishes,
her body was cremated. Graveside inurnment services will be
held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, November 22, 2008, at the
Osage Cemetery, with Pastor Gary Gilbert officiating. There
will be a time for lunch and fellowship following the
graveside service at the Osage V.F.W. Hall.
Carlene was born on
September 27, 1917 at Osage, Iowa, the daughter of Grant and
Irene (Nicol) Reed. She married Samuel Wigant on November
28, 1938, in Charles City. Carlene attended school in the
Osage area. She worked at the Gardner Nursery and the
Farmer's Produce, both in Osage, and as a farmer's wife.
Carlene was a member of
the First United Methodist Church in Osage, where she taught
Sunday School for a number of years. She loved gardening and
spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren,
and great-great-grandchildren.
Carlene is survived by six
children, Berdene Heck and friend, Wilbur Miller of Osage,
Janice Riker of New Haven, Leanna Miller of Osage, Lowell
(Kathy) Wigant of Osage, Maxine (Ed) Sholly of Osage and
Melvin (Rebecca) Wigant of Charles City; 24 grandchildren;
57 great-grandchildren; 28 great-great-grandchildren; a
sister-in-law, Maggie Reed of Clear Lake; and several nieces
and nephews.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; her husband, Samuel Wigant; son and
daughter-in-law, Maylon and Cindy Wigant; sons-in-law, John
Heck, James Riker and Chris Miller; grandson, John Bierbrodt;
great-grandchildren, Hailey and Samuel Riker; and two
brothers, Delmar and Merlyn Reed.

Edward Viskocil
November 18, 2008
Edward Viskocil, age 88, of Osage, died on Monday, November
17, 2008, at the Mitchell County Regional Health
Center-Hospice Unit in Osage.
A Mass of Christian Burial
will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, November 22, 2008,
at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage, with Rev John

Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, with a rosary at
4:30 p.m. and a scripture wake service at 6:30 p.m.
Edward was born on October
16, 1920 in Osage, Iowa, the son of John and Victoria (Zufan)
Viskocil. He was baptized into the Catholic Church and
received his education in the Osage Schools, graduating in
1938. Eddie was the first person to wrestle for Osage High
School when he stepped on the mat at 85 lbs. in 1934. He
went on to college at the University of Wisconsin. In 1940,
he won the National AAU Tournament in Ames at 145 lbs.,
wrestling unattached.
Eddie entered the Naval
Cadets in May 1942, and in April 1943 he received his Naval
Wings. He then transferred to the U.S. Marine Air Corps.
Eddie flew the TBF "Avenger" Torpedo Bomber with two crewmen
aboard and also was a qualified Carrier Pilot in World War
II. He served at Bougainville, Solomon Islands, Tinian,
Mariana Islands, and Iwo Jima, Volcanic Islands. Captain
Edward Viskocil was released from active duty in December of
1945, with an Honorable Discharge. He served in the Marine
Air Corps Reserve until 1956. For his military service in
World War II, he was awarded four Distinguished Flying
Crosses and 15 air medals.
Eddie was an Osage Police
Officer for 31+ years, the last 24 as Police Chief. He
retired in 1985. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, the
Iowa Chiefs Association, Osage Rotary Club, Knights of
Columbus, Marine Corps Association, Osage V.F.W. and the
Osage American Legion. His hobbies were raising roses and
Musky fishing.
Eddie married Mildred
Spaanum in 1952, and three children were born to this union,
James, Ann Maria, and Jane. Mildred died in 1966. In August
1985, he married Vivian McInroy.
Eddie is survived by his
wife, Vivian Viskocil of Osage; son, James (Cynthia)
Viskocil of River Falls, Wisconsin; daughter, Jane (Jeff)
Biddle of Nevada, Iowa; son-in-law, Andy Rolke of
Greensboro, North Carolina; five grandchildren, Kimberly
Viskocil, John Viskocil, Jeffery Biddle, Justin Biddle, and
Laura Rolke; five step-children, Sheri McInroy, Madonna
(Jim) Swartzbaugh, Rhonda (Bill) Hugunin, Steven (Jeanne)
McInroy, Julie (Jim) Byrd; fifteen step-grandchildren; four
step-great-grandchildren; two nephews, Vaughn (Carol) Rossum
of Osage and Craig (Sharon) Fosdick of Ione, California.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; his first wife, Mildred; his daughter, Ann
Maria Rolke; a sister, Mary Olson; and a brother, Jerry
Viskocil.

Russell T. Willis
November 25, 2008
Russell T. Willis, 83, of McIntire, Iowa, died on Wednesday,
November 19, 2008, at his home in McIntire, from an apparent
heart attack.
Funeral services were held
on Saturday, November 22, at 10:00 a.m., at the McIntire
Methodist Church in McIntire. Burial was in the Wayne
Cemetery in McIntire. Rev. Pam Kranzler officiated. The
Conway Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Russell Theodore Willis,
was born on June 6, 1925 in Wesley, Iowa, the son of
Jeramiah and Lillian (Harms) Willis. He was united in
marriage to Gladys Mary Schlampp on August 24, 1962, at the
Methodist Church in Spring Valley, Minnesota. They were
married 46 years.
He grew up in Wesley,
living there until 1949 when he moved to Riceville, where he
farmed before moving to McIntire in 1952. He was a farmer
for many years retiring in 1986. Even after retiring from
farming he could be found helping other farmers when needed.
Russell served in the United States Army from 1951-1953
during the Korean Conflict and had been a member of the
American Legion Post 569 in Stacyville for 50 years. He was
on the McIntire City Council.
He enjoyed playing cards,
watching game shows, television, going for rides to the
country and sitting outside. He loved visiting. He was a
devoted loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be
greatly missed.
Russell is survived by his
wife, Gladys of McIntire; eight daughters, Carol Schlampp of
McIntire, Cheryl Schlampp of McIntire, Carrie (Tom)
Schneider of Taopi, Minnesota, Lillian (Mark) Sorenson of
Rose Creek, Minnesota, Louise (Ron) Schneider of McIntire,
Linda (Gary) Schneider of Osage, Connie (Joe) Smith of
Stacyville and Laura Willis of McIntire; 13 grandchildren,
Jason, Tom and Melissa Schneider, Micheal, Ethan and Sarah
Sorenson, Jessica and Jenna Schneider, Christopher and
Andrew Schneider and Jaime, Jessica and Joey Smith; one
sister, Rosaline Townsend of Waterloo; one brother, Jerald
(Shirley) Willis of Waverly; a sister-in-law, Mary Willis of
Waterloo; also many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death
by his parents, Jeramiah and Lillian Willis; and two
brothers, Vernon Willis and Mervyn Willis.

Kathryn Chrencik
November 25, 2008
Kathryn Chrencik, age 92, died on Sunday, November 23, 2008,
at the Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Osage.
Memorial services will be
held at 3:00 p.m., on Wednesday, November 26, at the
Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, with Sister Millie
Leuenberger, OSF officiating.
Kathryn was born on August
25, 1916, in Benwood, West Virginia, the daughter of Joseph
and Victoria (Laga) Kordos. She moved to the Mitchell area
with her family when she was three years old. Kathryn
attended school in Mitchell and graduated from the Mitchell
High School, where she was a guard on the basketball team.
She was united in marriage to Tom Chrencik at the Sacred
Heart Church in Osage on February 6, 1937.
Kathryn enjoyed gardening,
canning, crocheting and spending time with her grandchildren
and great-grandchildren.
Kathryn is survived by her
son, Joe (Karen) Chrencik of Traverse City, Michigan; her
daughter, Judy (Paul) Morgan of Osage; grandchildren, Cheryl
(Phil) Kapler and their children, Monica, Ethan, Elena and
Owen of Lakeville, Minnesota; Christa (Curt) Diemer and
their children, Kara and Julia of West Branch, Iowa; Coleen
Chrencik and her children, Mitch, Daniel, and Thomas of
Divide, Colorado; Curt (Patty) Chrencik and their children,
Ryan, Carley and Joe of Gaylord, Michigan; and her sister,
Rose Pajer of Osage.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; her husband; and her sister, Mary Vulk.

Eileen Agnes Lincke
December 2, 2008
Eileen Agnes Lincke, age 81, of Osage, died on Wednesday,
November 26, 2008, at the Mitchell County Regional Health
Center-Hospice Unit in Osage.
A Mass of Christian Burial
was held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, November 29, at the
Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage, with Rev. John Moser
officiating. Burial was in the Osage Cemetery.
Eileen was born on
December 1, 1926, at home in Stacyville, the daughter of
Hubert and Laura (Kramer) Puettmann. She attended school in
Stacyville. Eileen married Norman Lincke on October 9, 1946,
at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage and they had
celebrated 60 years of marriage together. She was employed
in her earlier years in child care and housekeeping for
Margaret Leonard. She later went on to work as an egg
candler until she left to care full-time for her family.
Eileen was a long-time
member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and VFW
Auxiliary. She enjoyed cooking, baking, canning, dancing,
playing cards, gardening, coffee parties, chatting on the
phone with friends and spending time with her grandchildren
and great-grandchildren.
Eileen is survived by two
daughters, Donna Rae Adams (and life partner, Rex Ratcliff)
of Hampton and Claudia Ann (Larry) Lacour of Osage; five
grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Alfred
Puettmann of Austin, Minnesota and Wilbur (Mary) Puettmann
of Little Cedar; and two sisters, Bernice Valley of Altoona
and Ramona Sauer of Northville, Michigan.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; and husband, Norman Lincke in 2006.

Lester Selvig
December 2, 2008
Lester Selvig, age 93, of
Osage, died on Sunday, November 30, 2008, at the Faith
Lutheran Home in Osage.
Funeral services will be
held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, December 5, at the Our
Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage, with Rev. Dennis Hanson
and Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Burial will be in the Osage
Cemetery. Visitation is from 4-6:00 p.m., on Thursday, at
the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home and will continue one hour
before the services at the church.
Lester was born on
September 7, 1915, on a farm in Marshall County, Iowa, the
son of Oscar and Borghild (Haugen) Selvig. He married Elnora
Meling on January 31, 1938 in Marshalltown. They farmed in
Marshall County and moved to Osage in 1954. They farmed near
Osage, retiring in 1977.
Lester was a member of the
Sons of Norway and Our Savior's Lutheran Church, where he
taught Sunday School. He enjoyed fishing, attending farm
sales, playing cards and his coffee group at Stang's
Hardware. He also enjoyed his trip to Norway.
Lester is survived by
three daughters, Elaine (Wayne) Smolik of Osage, Eileen (Ewald)
Ehlke, Jr. of St. Ansgar and Dawn (James) Lackore of Osage;
one son, Robert (Mary Ann) Selvig of Osage; 12
grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ida
Usken of Colo, Iowa.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; his wife, Elnora Selvig in 1991; a brother,
Carl Milo Selvig; and two sisters, Thelma Anderson and
Bernice Dickkut.
