Dorothy Fleenor

May 6, 2008

Dorothy Fleenor, age 92, of Osage, died on Friday, May 2, 2008, at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, May 5, 2008, at the Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage, with Rev. Dennis Hanson and Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Burial was in the Osage Cemetery.

Dorothy was born on May 1, 1916 at Osage, the daughter of Fred and Ida (Hartwig) Havig. She was educated in the Osage Schools. On April 24, 1944, she married Roy Fleenor in Osage. They farmed near Orchard and later moved to a farm northeast of Osage. Following Roy's death in 1991, Dorothy moved to Osage, and moved to the Faith Home in 1998.

She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, and was a member of a birthday club. Dorothy enjoyed flowers, gardening, and caring for her family.

Dorothy is survived by three daughters, Linda (Gerald) Williams of Lake of the Ozark, Missouri, Elizabeth (Darryl) Landas of Decorah and Kimberley (Mark) Weis of Stacyville; two sons, Robert (Diane) of Osage and Joel (Diana) of Mason City; eight grandchildren, Jeff (Dana) Williams, Melissa (Mike) Schwenker and Tom (Sherrie) Williams, Chad (Sarah) Landas, Chelsea and Brandi Weis, Jeremy and Justin Fleenor; nine great-grandchildren, Kelli and Mason Williams, Abby, Carter, and Hadley Williams, Christian, Sydney, Amelia, and Caden Schwenker; three sisters, Leona Richards of Osage, June Jahnel of New Haven and Fern (Jim) Hughes of Riceville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy; a granddaughter, Michelle Landas; an infant brother, Arnold; three brothers, Alton, Melbourne and Everett Havig; and a sister, Grace Havig.

Funeral arrangements were made by the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home.

Dick Bower

May 6, 2008

Richard "Dick" Allan Bower, age 78, of Osage, died on Saturday, May 3, 2008, at his home in Osage.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., on Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, with Pastor Gary Gilbert officiating. Burial was in the Osage Cemetery.

Dick was born on June 14, 1929 at Osage, to John and Ethel (Richardson) Bower. He was baptized in the Osage Methodist Church. Dick went to the Burr Oak No. 2 School through eighth grade and graduated from the Riceville High School in 1947. On August 16, 1949, Dick married Eleanor Miles. To this union, two girls, Brenda and Monica, and two boys, Eric and Glen "George" were born. Dick farmed with his father for many years and retired in 1992. Dick and Eleanor moved to Osage in 1994.

He loved to travel, bowl, and read until poor eyesight befell him. Always a civic minded person, Dick was a Burr Oak Township Trustee for forty years, President of the Burr Oak School Board for twelve years, and Treasurer of the Osage Rural Fire Department for twenty years.

Dick is survived by his wife, Eleanor Bower of Osage; a daughter, Monica (Hank) Rgnonti of Lakeville, Minnesota; two sons, Eric (Verna) Bower of Robbinsdale, Minnesota and Glen "George" (Lori) Bower of Spirit Lake; a son-in-law, James Klehn of Burnsville, Minnesota; 19 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary (Duane) Abben of Little Cedar.

Preceding him in death were his parents; one brother, Marshal Bower; and a daughter, Brenda Klehn in 2004.

Funeral arrangements were made by the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home.

Mary Allice (Frein) Merrick

May 6, 2008

Mary Alice (Frein) Merrick, a longtime Osage resident, age 86, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 4, 2008, at the St. Anthony Park Home, St. Paul, Minnesota.

A private memorial service will be held in St. Paul on Saturday, May 17, 2008.

She was preceded in death by husband of 52 years, Chris.

Mary is survived by children, Phyllis (Dan) Hollihan St. Paul, Minnesota, Diana Harvey of Estero, Florida, Jerry (Mona) Merrick of Dubuque, Iowa, Rick (Ann) Merrick of Apple Valley, Minnesota and Steve (Diane) Merrick of Stewartville, Minnesota; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Bob of Osage and Marvin of Minneapolis, Minnesota; sister, Pat (Don) Ahrens of Mason City, Iowa; and four sisters-in-law, Dorothy Frein, Arlene Frein, Elaine Frein of Garner, Iowa and Alice Frein of Des Moines, Iowa.

Leonard E. Pohren

May 6, 2008

Leonard E. Pohren, age 83, of Wayland, formerly of Washington, died on Sunday May 4, 2008, at the Parkview Home in Wayland, after failing in health.

A Celebration of Life services will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday, May 7, at the Jones-Eden Funeral Home in Washington, with Pastor Darryl Carr officiating. Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m., on Tuesday, at the Jones-Eden Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 5-8:00 p.m., on Tuesday evening. Interment with military honors conducted by Washington American Legion Post 29, will take place in the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. A memorial has been established to the Great River Hospice.

Leonard was born on November 10, 1924 in Jefferson County, Iowa, the son of Christian and Lydia (Kern) Pohren. He attended school at Mohawk #9 and also attended school in Brighton, Iowa. On September 30, 1943, Leonard was united in marriage to Arlene M. Weinard in Washington, Iowa.

Leonard lived most of his life in Washington County where he owned and operated Pohren Trucking for many years. He served in the United States Navy during World War II where he was in the Pacific Theater. Leonard enjoyed baseball, especially the St. Louis Cardinals. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and enjoyed playing cribbage after his retirement.

He is survived by his daughter, Karen Escher and husband, Mark of Kalona, Iowa; three sons, Dean Pohren and wife, Shari of Osage, Allen Pohren of Red Oak, Iowa and Jeffrey Pohren of Omaha, Nebraska; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one sister, Viola Norton of Washington, Iowa.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in 1991; and six brothers and sisters including, Dorothy Crile, Eunice Mann, Clifford Pohren, Harold Pohren, Everette Pohren and Norma Hesseltine.

Antoinette Gigstead

May 13, 2008

Antoinette Gigstead, age 97, of Reynolds, Indiana and formerly of Osage, died on Friday, May 9, 2008, at the White County Memorial Hospital in Monticello, Indiana.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Thursday, May 15, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, with Rev. Dr. J. Samuel Subramanian officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Mitchell. Visitation will be from 12:30-1:30 p.m., on Thursday, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.

Antoinette is survived by her son, Robert; sisters-in-law, Rosie Pajer of Mitchell and Anna Pajer of Osage; and several nieces and nephews.

Judith Vickers

May 13, 2008

Judith Suzanne (Rosauer) Vickers, age 62, of Osage, died on Friday May 9, 2008, at her home. Judith battled long and strong against cancer since July, 2003.

A Memorial Mass was held at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, May 13, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage, with Rev. John Moser officiating.

Judith is survived by her husband, Charles Vickers of Osage; her daughter, Karen (Jerry) Wilkinson and their two sons, Bo and Max of Dagsboro, Delaware; her son, Rick Vickers of Osage; her siblings, plus many other family members.

Funeral arrangements were made by the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home.

Yvonne Eidness

May 21, 2008

Yvonne Valaree Eidness, age 77, of Lake Mills, formerly of Osage, Iowa, died on Monday, May 19, 2008, at the Lake Mills Care Center in Lake Mills, Iowa.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 22, at the Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, with Rev. W. Paul Weeg officiating. Burial will be in the Salem Memorial Cemetery, rural Lake Mills. Visitation was held on Wednesday, May 21, from 5-7:00 p.m., at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, and continued one hour prior to the services at the church on Thursday.

Yvonne Valaree Eidness, was born on December 7, 1930 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the daughter of Lionel and Margaret (Lehrke) Parent. She grew up in and graduated from the Central High School, in La Crosse, Wisconsin. On May 3, 1952, she was united in marriage to Duane Eidness at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Osage. Duane passed away in 2002.

Yvonne worked as a bookkeeper for Arts Shoes in Osage for several years. After moving to Lake Mills, she worked as a cook at the Lake Mills Care Center.

Yvonne loved her family dearly. Her life revolved around her grandchildren. She had spent several years as the care giver for her granddaughter, Shana in Chicago, Illinois. She was an awesome and resourceful cook.

She is survived by her children, Steve (Judy) Eidness of Lake Mills, Kimberly Johnson of Osage, Denise Beaudoin of Evanston, Illinois and David (Judy) Eidness of Lake Mills; eleven grandchildren, Josh, Lacie and Jenna Eidness, Valerie Marker, Elizabeth Johnson, Danielle Lemmerman, Clint Johnson, Shana Beaudoin, Stephanie, Courtney and Katlyn Eidness; six great-grandchildren; three brothers, Monte Parent of Louisville, Kentucky, Ronald (Phyllis) Parent of Holmen, Wisconsin and James (Mary) Hetzel of La Crosse, Wisconsin; two sisters, Beverly (Bob) Erickson of Cashton, Wisconsin and Gloria Knoke of La Crosse, Wisconsin; sister-in-law, Lois Parent of Stevenson, Michigan; brothers-in-law, John Jostad of Galesville, Wisconsin and Harvey Jostad of Holmen, Wisconsin; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Yvonne was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Duane; sisters, Annette Jostad and Carol Jostad; brother, Lionel "Bud" Parent; great-grandson, T.J. Marker; and step-father, Gerald Hetzel.

James "Jim" O'Brion

May 21, 2008

James Elwood O'Brion, age 64, of Osage, went to heaven on Tuesday, May 20, 2008, the same day as his Dad's birthday. He passed away at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center Hospice Unit in Osage.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Thursday, May 22, 2008, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage, with the Rev. Dennis Hanson and Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Blossom Hill Cemetery in Badger, Iowa. There will be a time for lunch and fellowship following services at the church.

Jim was born on April 8, 1944 at Fort Dodge, Iowa, to Harry and Willetta (Olson) O'Brion. He grew up in and around Badger, Iowa, and attended a country school, Badger Elementary, in Badger Township 3. Jim attended the Fort Dodge High School until the 11th grade. He served in the U.S. Army from 1961-1964 and received his GED. On June 12, 1965, he married Norma Rosenquist at Burnside, Iowa.

Jim worked for the Post Office in Shawnee Mission, Kansas, and in Fort Dodge. Jim also worked as a meat salesman for Gus Glaser in Fort Dodge and Harker's in LeMars. He then worked as a driver dispatcher at United Van Bus in Minneapolis and Greenfield Trucking in Fort Dodge. Jim and Norma moved to Osage in September of 2005, from Milford, Iowa, where Jim had worked as a broker for Pioneer Transfer Trucking Company.

Jim enjoyed his grandchildren, fishing, camping, and feeding the birds. He was a member of the V.F.W. in Osage and the American Legion in Gowrie, Iowa.

Jim is survived by his wife, Norma O'Brion of Osage; his children, Jamie (Harold) Zupon of Coon Rapids, Minnesota, Patrick (Janet) O'Brion of Minnetonka, Minnesota, Rachel O'Brion of Coon Rapids, Minnesota and Kelly (Bill) Carlson of St. Ansgar; and loved by his seven grandchildren, Cody Bebensee, Mitchell and Ally O'Brion, Joel, Addy, Griffin, and Drew Carlson; a brother, Tim (Teri) O'Brion of Milford; a sister, Cheryl (Gary) Warren of Mesa, Arizona; and his beloved dog, Bailey.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Chuck O'Brion; and a sister, Linda Kombrink.

Funeral arrangements were made by the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.

Leonard J. Kisley

June 3, 2008

Leonard James Kisley, 62, of Hines, Minnesota, died on Tuesday, May 20, 2008, in Bemidji, Minnesota, at the North Country Regional Hospital.

Memorial services were held at 2:00 p.m., on Tuesday, May 27, at the Cease Family Funeral Home Chapel in Blackduck. Military honors were provided by the American Legion Post 372 of Blackduck, Minnesota. Honorary pallbearers were Leonard's sons, daughters, and grandchildren.

Leonard was born on June 24, 1945 in Lawler, Iowa, the son of Paul and Betty (Hadacek) Kisley. He was raised and educated in Osage, Iowa. He entered the U.S. Army in 1968, and received an honorable discharge in 1970. He married Joyce Smith on January 29, 1972 on Sandy Lake, in Beltrami County, Minnesota.

He was a dairy farmer, ran a minnow business, and was a long haul trucker until he passed away. He was an avid outdoorsman and he enjoyed hunting, and fishing. Most of all he loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Kisley of Hines, Minnesota; sons, Kevin (Bonnie Nagel) Kisley of Blackduck, Minnesota and Matthew (Amber) Kisley of Hines, Minnesota; daughters, Carrie Ann Kisley of Iowa, Andrea (David) Martin of Blackduck, Minnesota, Bobbie (Greg) Harmon of Clearwater, Minnesota and Carla Kisley of Lake George, Minnesota; brothers, Raymond (Linda) Kisley of Osage, Iowa, Paul (Beverly) Kisley of Osage, Iowa, Frank (Patty) Kisley of Osage, Iowa and Norbert (Diane) Kisley of Cottage Grove, Minnesota; and his nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Val Kisley; and his sister and her husband, Cecilia and Bill Buck.

Anna Pajer

May 21, 2008

Anna (Miller) Pajer, age 81, of Osage, died on Wednesday, May 21, 2008, at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Friday, May 23, at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage, with Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Mitchell. Visitation is from 1:30 to 2:00 p.m., on Friday, at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.

Anna was born on May 4, 1927 near Mitchell, Iowa, the daughter of Carl and Gina (Erickson) Miller. She attended school in Mitchell. Anna was united in marriage to Frank Pajer on November 30, 1946 in Mitchell.

Anna is survived by her three children, Pat Schotanus of Osage, Jim (Charlene) Pajer of Carpenter and Chuck Pajer of Osage; five grandchildren, Robert (Laura) Schotanus of Osage, Brandon, Andrea, and Ashley Pajer of Carpenter, Michael Pajer of St. Ansgar; a great-grandchild, Mitchell Schotanus of Osage; a step-brother, Kenneth Goplerud of St. Ansgar; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Pajer; her parents, Carl and Gina Miller; two sisters, Helga Nemeth and Ermma Weldon; a brother, Lawrence Miller; a step-sister, Elfrieda Uzlik; and four step-brothers, Chris Miller, Hans Miller, Jean Olson and Linton Olson.

Eunice Meighan

May 27, 2008

Eunice Meighan, age 100, of Osage, and formerly of New Hampton, died on Friday, May 23, 2008, at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 27, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, with Sister Millie Leuenberger, OSF officiating. Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.

Jerry Kline

May 27, 2008

Jerry Michael Kline, 61, of St. Ansgar, died on Friday, May 23, 2008, at the Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota, from complications due to a bone marrow transplant he received on June 13, 2006 to assist in battling leukemia.

Memorial services were held at 2:00 p.m., on Tuesday, May 27, at the United Methodist Church in St. Ansgar, with Rev. Peter Chang officiating. Burial will take place in the St. Ansgar Cemetery. No visitation was planned. The Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home in St. Ansgar, was in charge of the arrangements.

Jerry Michael Kline, was born on September 26, 1946, to William and Agnes (Trench) Kline. Jerry graduated from the St. Ansgar High School in 1965, attended NIACC and Mankato State. He later joined The US Army and served in Vietnam.

He married Sue Brasch (died on February 24, 2002), of St. Ansgar, on July 6, 1971. They spent two years in Dubuque, Iowa, before returning to St. Ansgar, where their children, Tara Thorson and Eric Kline, were born. In his marriage to Sue Brasch, he is survived by his father-in-law and mother-in law, Claire and Dorothy Brasch; sisters-in-law, Sally Emerson Brasch and Barb (Rex) Ray and brother-in-law, Bob Brasch.

Jerry was a member of the St. Ansgar American Legion Post 358 and a volunteer fire fighter. He was the owner/manager of BK Feeds in St. Ansgar for 27 years. Jerry was an avid gardener and sports enthusiast.

He married Margie Hansen, of St. Ansgar, on January 29, 2003. Though their time together wasn't near long enough, the memories and experiences they shared spanned a lifetime.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Margie Kline; his children, Tara (Cory) Thorson and Eric (Sunny) Kline; step-children, Shalome (Chuck) Tonelli, Brandi (Kyle) Malmin, Tanner Hansen and Hannah Hansen; grandchildren, Elle, Cadence, Mayzee and Tyson; step-grandchildren, Izzy, Kamen, Madison and Maria; mother-in-law, Laura Bublitz and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bob and Clarice Duvall; sisters, Diane (Roger) Zuehl, Nancy (Don) Salisbury, Janet (Bob) Bruesewitz, Sonja (Tom) Yahnke and Linda Currens; his brothers-in-law, Jim Duvall, John (Sandi) Duvall and Dan Nack; sisters-in-law, Carol (Jack) Kline and Donella (Jim) Kline.

Jerry was preceded in death by his first wife, Sue Kline; parents, William and Agnes Kline; step-father, Buddy Heimer; brothers, Jack Kline and Jim Kline and an infant brother.

We will miss him dearly and remember him always.

Alfred Hackenmiller

June 3, 2008

Alfred Joseph Hackenmiller, age 95, of Stacyville, died on Saturday, May 31, 2008, at the Stacyville Community Nursing Home in Stacyville.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, June 4, at the Sacred Heart Oratory in Meyer, with Rev. John Moser officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Meyer. Visitation is from 5-8:00 p.m., on Tuesday, at the Sacred Heart Oratory in Meyer. Visitation will continue one hour before the services at the church.

Alfred was born on June 6, 1912 at Meyer, Iowa, to John and Helen (Blake) Hackenmiller. He grew up in the Meyer area and was educated in the Meyer School. During his adolescence years, he worked on the farm with his father. Alfred then went to work at the Mayo Farm and St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota, where he came to know the Mayo Brothers, Dr. Will and Dr. Charlie. This is where he met the love of his life, Cecilia Barbara Klinkhammer. In 1935, he married Cecilia at Adrian, Minnesota. They farmed south of Meyer their entire life. Alfred took great pride in being a dairy farmer.

He was a member of the Sacred Heart Church in Meyer. His great love and enjoyment was his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Leon (Theresa) of Stacyville, Paul (Rita) of St. Ansgar, Ken and friend, Jane of Meyer and Charles (Shirley) of Meyer; his daughter, Betty (Barney) Retterath of Meyer; a daughter-in-law, Joanne (Don) Hackenmiller Popp of Osage; 34 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Catherine (Carl) Klapperich of Stacyville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Cecilia; two sons, John and Eugene; a brother, Leo; and one grandchild.
