Carl Lorence

Carl Lorence, age 82, of Osage, died on Tuesday, July 8,
2008, at his home near Osage.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Sunday, July
20, at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church, Osage, with Rev. R.
Dawson Tornes officiating. There will be a time for lunch
and fellowship at the church following the memorial service.
Inurnment will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Mitchell,
Iowa.
Carl was born on December
24, 1925 at Mitchell, the son of Anton and Anna (Mach)
Lorence. He attended school in Mitchell and graduated from
the Mitchell High School. Carl was united in marriage to
Darlene Troge at the St. John's Lutheran Church, Cedar
Township, on August 30, 1953. They made their home in the
Osage area, and have been at their present farm since 1964.
Carl and Darlene spent the past 25 winters in Brownsville,
Texas.
Carl is survived by his
wife, Darlene Lorence of Osage; his children, Diane (Ron)Thompson
of Osage, Craig Lorence of Marshalltown and Debra Lorence of
Gene Autry, Oklahoma; a granddaughter, Heather Thompson of
Osage; a sister, Bessie Gunther of Osage; a brother, Stanley
(Elsie) Lorence of Portsmouth, Rhode Island; a
sister-in-law, Wilma Johnson of Osage; and several nieces
and nephews.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; two brothers, Joseph and Clement Lorence;
and a sister, Mary Lorence.

Anthony James
Barberi
July 22, 2008
Anthony James Barberi, (known as A.J. to his family and
friends), 19, of Pensacola, Florida, went to be with his
Lord and Savior on Friday, July 11, 2008.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 15, at the
Striffler and Hanby Funeral Home in North Phenix City,
Alabama.
He was born in West Palm
Beach, Florida, on June 13, 1989, to Kellie Shelton Barberi
and Anthony Barberi. He started the A-1 Lawn Service while
living in Osage and could often be seen driving his John
Deere mower around town. A 2007 graduate of the Christian
Liberty Academy, he attended Messenger College in Joplin,
Missouri in the fall of 2007.

is survived by his mother, Kellie and sister, Kristen, both
of Pensacola, Florida; grandparents, Jim and Arlene Shelton
of Osage; great-grandmother, Genevieve Funk of Palm City,
Florida; aunt and uncle, Susan and Mike Aleckson; and
cousins, Josh and Dylan of Joplin, Missouri.
A.J.
will be greatly missed by his family and the many friends
who love him and anxiously wait to be with him again in
Heaven.

Adam M. Lack
July 15, 2008
Adam M. Lack, 33, of Nora Springs, died on Sunday, July 13,
2008, in a single vehicle accident in rural Mitchell County.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, at the
Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City.
Reverend Carl Ries, pastor, will officiate. Inurnment will
be at a later date. Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral
Home in Charles City from 4-8:00 p.m., on Thursday, where
there will be a Vigil Scriptural Wake Service at 7:00 p.m.
Visitation will continue on Friday at the church an hour
prior to the service. Memorials may be directed to the Lack
Educational Fund of the Knights of Columbus, Nora Springs.
Adam Michael Lack, was
born on May 13, 1975 at Mason City, the son of Gary
(deceased) and Veronica (Naumann) Lack. Adam spent his
childhood in several towns in northern Iowa including
Rockford, Cedar Falls, and Mason City before moving to
Buffalo, Wyoming during his freshman year of high school. He
was a remarkably gifted wrestler, becoming an AAU national
champion at the age of 9 and 4-time high school state place
winner in Wyoming. He was valedictorian of his class at the
Buffalo High School, received an academic scholarship to
Brown University and recently received his degree in
business economics from Brown University in Providence,
Rhode Island. He had formerly owned and operated the Floyd Y
Restaurant in Floyd. More recently he had operated the
Eagle's Nest bar in Nora Springs. Until the time of his
death he was an ethanol plant operations supervisor at POET
Biorefining.
He enjoyed reading, writing and fishing in his spare time.
Adam's life was one of caring for others including his
mother, Veronica, and his nieces and nephews. He was deeply
thoughtful and loving. He was protective of his loved ones.
After the death of his father from cancer in 2004, Adam
remained at home to help his mother with managing the family
farm while pursuing his business ventures and working at the
ethanol plant.
One of his best college friends, Ray Rocha, died on
September 11, 2001 in the World Trade Center attacks.
Another dear friend, Dimitri Gavriel, was later killed in
action in Iraq after joining the marines. Regarding the
friends he had lost Adam had written, "I wish I could fish
with Dimitri once more, and do anything with Ray." Adam may
be described best in his own writing. In relation to his
love of family and friends, "One of my favorite occasional
occurrences is being awoken early by my giggling nieces,
Gabriella and Erica. Time spent with friends, preferably
laughing, is a priority for me." In relation to his quest
for answers, "I like thunderstorms and truth, because they
answer to no one... somewhere there's always an equation I'm
working on in my mind that haunts me; but I'll always break
it." He described his heroes as "all those who swim against
the tide or care for the less fortunate."
He is survived by his
mother, Veronica Lack of Nora Springs; five siblings,
Anthony Lack of Baytown, Texas, Tanya (Shawn) Hamilton of
Dallas, Texas, Heidi (Robert) Thunhorst of Iowa City,
Benjamin (Fernanda DeCollo) Lack of Des Moines and William
(Brandi Moon) Lack of Iowa City; and nieces and nephews,
Gustav Thunhorst, Erica Lack, Gabriella Lack and Catherina
Lack. His boyish laugh and warm sense of humor will remain
with everyone always.
He was preceded in death
by his grandparents and father.

Daniel E. Neuman
August 5, 2008
Daniel E. Neuman, 65, of Eureka, died on Thursday July 17,
2008, at the Brendan House in Kalispell, from natural
causes.
He was born on August 20, 1942 in Rock Township, Mitchell
County, Iowa, to Daniel G. & Hazel Innis Neuman. He grew up
and attended school in St. Ansgar, Iowa. He graduated from
the St. Ansgar High School with the class of 1960. He
entered the US Marine Corps in 1960 and served for 4 years.
He married Shari Doerkson in Portland, Oregon in October of
1965. They moved to Eureka in 1972. Shari preceded him in
death in 1974. He worked for the Forest Service for over 30
years. He retired in 1998. He enjoyed hunting, woodworking,
bird hunting, and the out of doors.
Survivors include his
children, Matt Neuman of Montana, Bryan Neuman of Florence,
Montana, K. C. Woolard and husband, Brett of Aurora,
Colorado, Robyn Holder of Perth, Australia and Derek Clark
of Eureka, Montana; grandchildren, Ashlee Holder, Mikayla
Neuman, Kassandra Neuman, Keegan Neuman, Madison Neuman,
Ellia Woolard and Kaden Glenn; companion & friend, Janis
Neuman of Eureka, Montana; brother, Robert Neuman of Iowa;
sisters, Lucille Simkins of Oregon and Margaret Simkins of
Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Alan "Al" Craig
Bailey
July 22, 2008
Alan "Al" Craig Bailey, died peacefully at home, on Friday,
July 18, 2008, following a gutsy and courageous battle with
lung and bone cancer.
A Celebration of Al's life will be held at 11:00 a.m., on
Friday, July 25, at the First United Methodist Church.
Interment will be a family service at the National Veterans
Cemetery in Igo, California. In Lieu of flowers, the family
asks donations be made in Al's name to the First United
Methodist Church or to the Mercy Hospice, both in Redding,
California.
Al was born in Osage,
Iowa, on October 31, 1934, to Charles H. and Edna I. Bailey.
Growing up in Osage in those days was carefree and full of
fun and "boy stuff". Al graduated from the Osage High School
where he was Athlete of the Year and an excellent wrestler.
During those years he worked and drove truck for McCoy Ice
Cream.
He attended the University
of Iowa for one year before enlisting in the Army during the
Korean War. He spent two years of active duty in Korea, and
then six years in the reserve. During those reserve years,
he completed his B.A. in geology at the University of Iowa,
and moved with some buddies to Kansas City, Missouri to work
at Fisher Body.
From Kansas City he moved
to St. Louis to work for Liberty Mutual Insurance as a
Safety Engineer, and that is where he met and fell in love
with his future wife, Charlotte. While in St. Louis he
pursued and got his teaching credential. He secured a
teaching position at the Charles Evans Hughes Jr. High in
Woodland Hills, California and began teaching there in 1962,
the same year that he and Charlotte were married. He taught
math and science at the school for 8 years, and then decided
to move the family (now four strong) to Kenwood, in Northern
California.
He commenced to teach for
the Santa Rosa City Schools at Rincon Valley Jr. High
School, and taught there for the next 31 years, retiring in
2000. He moved to Redding permanently at that time, having
spent a lot of time up there since 1991. His love and
respect for Jr. High aged children has been admired and
envied by many.
Al was a volunteer
firefighter for the Kenwood Fire Protection District for 30
years, retiring as Captain. While his children were growing,
he was a little league manager, and a Boy Scout Leader,
taking boys on 50 mile hikes, canoe trips, camping, climbing
Half Dome in Yosemite, and taking the troop to the Philmont
Boy Scout Camp in New Mexico. Since being in Redding, he has
volunteered at the Cypress School, Whiskeytown National
Recreational Area Visitors Center and the First United
Methodist Church.
He and Charlotte
thoroughly enjoyed traveling with their R.V. partners, Joyce
and Joe Hampton to all parts of these United States that
included Civil War Battlefields, the Alcan Highway, and many
National Parks and Monuments.
He is survived by his
loving wife, Charlotte; son, Alan (wife, Lee Anne and
granddaughter, Grace), son, Craig (wife, Lisa and
granddaughter, Kellie); brothers, Don (Jan) and Mike
(Terri); sister-in-law, Marsha (Roger Booth) and
brother-in-law, J. Milton Keller (Nancy); aunts, nieces,
nephews, cousins and many, many wonderful friends and
neighbors.
As his sons say, "Dad has
always been there for us, always ready to help anyone
whenever and wherever the need arose."

Robert "Bob"
Hinrichsen
July 22, 2008
Robert "Bob" Hinrichsen, age 78, of Osage, died on Monday,
July 21, 2008, at the MCRHC-Hospice Unit in Osage.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Thursday,
July 24, at the Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage, with
Rev. Dennis Hanson and Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Burial will
be in the Orchard Cemetery with military honors by the Osage
American Legion Post 278 and the Osage V.F.W. Post 7920.
Visitation is from 5-7:00 p.m., on Wednesday, at the
Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage and will continue one
hour before the services at the church.
Bob was born on September
7, 1929, to Martin and Margaret (Hinrichsen) Hinrichsen at
Rock Falls. After graduating from the Rock Falls High
School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the
Korean Conflict. On June 21, 1953, Bob married Anna Louise
Shomber at the St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Nora Springs.
After working at Montgomery Ward in Mason City for 16 1/2
years in the tire department, and then in the receiving
department, he and his family moved to Osage in December
1969. He and Louise owned Bob's Upholstery business for 38
years. He really enjoyed creating a beautiful thing from a
worn out piece of furniture. He got Parkinson's Disease and
retired from the business about three years ago. Bob and
Louise spent many weekends going to flea markets. He
especially enjoyed playing cards with his family.
Bob is survived by his
wife, Louise Hinrichsen; two sons, Mark (Kim) Hinrichsen and
Byron Hinrichsen, both of Osage; grandson, Michael
Hinrichsen of Osage; granddaughter, Jessie (Brandon) Parcel
of Osage; a sister, Helen (George) Reynolds of Mason City;
sisters-in-law, Betty Hinrichsen of Nora Springs, Liz
Hinrichsen of Rock Falls, Barbara Miller of Osage, Dorothy
Turner of Council Bluffs, Linda Riker of Osage and Shirley
Shomber of Appling, Georgia; brother-in-law, Larry (Marlene)
Moody of Las Vegas, Nevada; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; brothers, Earl and Don; daughter-in-law,
Linnette; and brothers-in-law, Charles Shomber, Robert
Riker, Arlo Miller and Duane Shomber.

Bill Koenigs
July 22, 2008
Bill Koenigs, age 29, of Brownsdale, Minnesota, and formerly
of Meyer, Iowa, died on Monday, July 21, 2008, at the St.
Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota of injuries received
from a motorcycle accident.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., on
Friday, July 25, at the Sacred Heart Oratory in Meyer, with
Father James Seitz, Father John Moser, Father Ruben Spinler
and Deacon Gary Kasel officiating. Burial will be in the
Sacred Heart Cemetery in Meyer. Visitation will be from
3-8:00 p.m., on Thursday, at the Sacred Heart Oratory in
Meyer, with a Scripture Wake Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation
will continue one hour before the services at the church.
Bill was born on November
24, 1978 in Osage, the son of Ray and Kathy (Ryan) Koenigs.
He attended the Visitation School in Stacyville and
graduated from the St. Ansgar High School in 1997, where he
was Senior Class President. Bill married Mary Gossman on
August 14, 2004 in Rose Creek, Minnesota. They lived near
Brownsdale. He was employed at Hormel Foods in Austin. Bill
had an avid interest in antique Oliver tractors and loved
his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. He enjoyed his family, and
especially enjoyed his nieces and nephews.
Bill is survived by his
wife, Mary Koenigs and their soon to arrive baby, of
Brownsdale, Minnesota; his parents, Ray and Kathy Koenigs of
Stacyville; his parents-in-law, Roman and Mercedes Gossman
of Rose Creek, Minnesota; brothers and sister, Brian
(Joanne) Koenigs of Meyer and children, Jacob, Adam, Jack
and Auna, Linda (Tim) Neutz of Royalton, Minnesota and
children, Matthew, Grace and Isaac, (Rachel) Koenigs of
Hastings, Minnesota and children, Lauren, Evan and Claire,
Matt Koenigs of Meyer, Nick (Katie) Koenigs of Plymouth,
Iowa and children, Hannah and Ryan, Tom (Katie) Koenigs of
Lyle, Minnesota and daughter, Emma and his twin brother,
Chuck Koenigs of Meyer; his brothers-in-law and
sisters-in-law, Larry (Sarah) Gossman of Rose Creek,
Minnesota and children, Melody, Jake and Dean, Lynn (Tim)
Schaefer of Rose Creek, Minnesota, and children, Courtney

Roger William
Carmody
July 29, 2008
Roger William Carmody, 78, of Gravette, Arkansas, died on
Thursday, July 24, 2008, in Bella Vista, Arkansas.
A Memorial Service was held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, July
28, at the Hiwasse Baptist Church, Hiwasse, Arkansas, with
Pastor Jim Daniel officiating. A second Memorial Service
will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, August 1, at the
First Congregational Church in Orchard, Iowa, with Mike
Carmody officiating. Burial will be in the Orchard Cemetery.
Roger was born on February
13, 1930 in Rock Falls, Iowa, to John and Josephine Carmody.
He married Mabel Teepe Hines on October 9, 1954 in Preston,
Minnesota. He was a retired salesman. Mr. Carmody was a
member of the Hiwasse 1st Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death
by a step-daughter, Joan Schroeder; his parents; four
sisters; and four brothers.
Survivors include, his
wife of 54 years, Mabel Carmody; a son, David Carmody and
wife, LauraLynn of West Union, Iowa; a step-daughter, Janet
Hilsman of Bella Vista, Arkansas; a son-in-law, Dennis
Schroeder of Pinedale, Wyoming; one sister, Rosella Mayo of
the Chicago, Illinois area; five grandchildren; and six
great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements were
made by the Bella Vista Funeral Home & Crematory, in Bella
Vista, Arkansas.
In lieu of flowers,
memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer
Society, Bella Vista, Arkansas or to a Hospice Organization
of your choice.

Arlene (Roe)
Davidson
July 29, 2008
Arlene (Roe) Davidson, age 91, of Osage, died on Friday,
July 25, 2008, at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.
Arlene Isabella Roe, was born on November 17, 1916 in Osage,
the daughter of Vernon M. and Maude (Anderson) Roe. She
graduated from the Osage High School in 1934 and also
graduated from Gates Business College in Waterloo. She was
united in marriage to Edward O. Davidson on July 8, 1961.
Graveside services were
held at 1:00 p.m., on Monday, July 28, at the Osage
Cemetery, with Rev. Robert Lemmerman officiating. Visitation
was held on Sunday, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in
Osage.
Arlene is survived by a
brother, Robert F. Roe and his wife, Bernice (Fox) Roe of
San Jose, California; a niece, Sharon Caviglia and her
husband, Jim of San Jose, California; a nephew, Bruce Roe
and his wife, Marian of Granite Bay, California; three
step-children, Robert Davidson and his wife, Bernice of
Cresco, Marjorie Sheldon of Los Altos, California and
Geraldine Beneke of Houston, Texas.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; her husband; and a nephew, Steven Roe.
