MASON

08/17/01 

Barbara Mason, 77, of Waterloo, Iowa died Wednesday, August 8, 2001, of natural causes. Barbara Jackson was born on August 26, 1923, to Gay and Georgia Edna (Ramsey) Jackson in Clarksville. She graduated from Clarksville High School in 1940 and married Robert A. Mason on August 17, 1942. Robert died May 27, 1982. Barbara was a member of the First Baptist Church in Waterloo. Survivors include son Richard Mason of Independence, daughter Jane Brandenberg of Algona, Iowa, five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a brother, Robert Jackson of Cedar Rapids. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two brothers, John James and William Joseph Jackson. Funeral services will be at a later date, with burial in Lynwood Cemetery, Clarksville. Locke Funeral Home, Waterloo, is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the family.


DOTY

Funeral services for Doyle B. Doty, age 68, of Allison, Iowa will be at 1:30 p.m., Friday at the United Church of Christ in Allison with burial in Lynwood Cemetery in Clarksville, Iowa Doyle died at 2:25 p.m. Monday, August 13, 2001, in the Community Nursing Home in Clarksville from natural causes. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Schwartz Funeral Home in Clarksville with Masonic and I.O.O.F. Services at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Visitation will also be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday at the Funeral Home and from noon to service time at the church Friday.


LAMPMAN

08/17/01 

Odes C. Lampman, 89, of Allison, died on August 12, 2001 at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo of natural causes. On November 27, 1911, Odes was born the son of August and Helena (Fluth) Lampman in Rosemont, Nebraska. He was educated in the Rosemont and Blue Hill Nebraska Schools. On July 27, 1940, Odes was united in marriage to Lena Cramer in Estherville. He was a farmer all his life and was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Allison. He enjoyed playing cards, farming and being around the farm. Survivors include his wife, Lena of Allison; daughter, Linda and husband, Clark Elliot of Waterloo and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister; nine brothers; and one infant sister. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, August 16, 2001 at St. James Lutheran Church in Allison with Rev. Jerry Laehn and Associate Pastor Peg Torrin officiating. Special music was provided by organist, Mrs. Cecil Radcliffe accompanying soloist, Dean Uhlenhopp. The flower committee was Thelma Wiegmann and Roberta Wiegmann. Honorary pallbearer was Howard Shipton. Pallbearers were Jay Schrage, Tim Schrage, Herbert Freese, Dean Rewerts, Dean Wiegmann and Wayne Wiegmann. Final resting place was in the Jungling (Folkerts) Cemetery, rural Allison. Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Allison was in charge of arrangements.


LANCELLE

08/17/01 

Lillian Louise Lancelle, age 69, of Aplington, was born the daughter of Cornelius (Bill) and Dorothy (Reynolds) Lamfers on September 26, 1931, in Parkersburg, Iowa. She received her education in Parkersburg and later moved with her family to Kesley, Iowa, where she attended a country school near her home. Lillian Lamfers was united in marriage with John H. Lancelle Sr. on October 15, 1949, at the Presbyterian Church in Kesley. They made their home in Aplington. Lillian worked at various local restaurants from 1978 until she retired in 1991. She was a member of the First Reformed Church in Aplington. Lillian enjoyed crocheting and reading romance novels. On Tuesday, August 7, 2001, Lillian died at her home in Aplington of natural causes. She was preceded in death by her husband John Lancelle on December 5, 1965; her parents; one sister, Ruth Wildeboer; and an infant brother who died at birth. Lillian is survived by one son, John H. Lancelle Jr. and his wife, Dianne of Brodhead, WI and their children, Jessica, Jennifer and Jamie; one daughter, Paula Row and her husband, David of Ackley, two great grandchildren, Cordellia and Emily Regenold; four step grandchildren; and nine step great grandchildren. Memorial Services were held Friday, August 10 at Schwartz Funeral Chapel in Aplington with Rev. Marlin Mohrman of the Aplington Baptist Church officiating. Honorary Casketbearers were Mike Luze, Gordon Buss, Tony Paige, Ronald Kollmann, Steven Boekholder and Sheldon Boekholder.


HEARN

08/17/01 

Merle Glenn Hearn, 66, of Dumont died August 9, 2001 at the North Iowa Mercy Health Center West Campus, Mason City, Iowa from natural causes. On September 27, 1934, Merle was born the son of Glenn and Marie Della (Overturf) Hearn on a farm north of Dumont. He received his education in the Dumont High School. On June 5, 1953, Merle was united in marriage to Beulah Miller at the United Bretheran Church in Bristow. Merle was a farmer, District Manager for Arbie Feed from Marhslltown and later a minister at Clarksville Wesleyan Church for 6 1/2 years. Merle became an ordained minister in 1986. He was a member of the Dumont Reformed Church. He was also a member of the AFMC Ministerial Association, a Cub Master and Assistant Scout Master for the Boy Scouts of America. He enjoyed collecting and restoring farm toys, fishing, woodworking, carpentry, traveling, camping, church funcitons and activities, and being a bus driver in Dumont for 7 years. Merle, Beulah and the five boys recorded a record in 1974 called “The Family Who Prays”. Merle enjoyed touring with his family to promote the record, and also attended many feed schools. Survivors include his wife Beulah Hearn of Dumont; five sons: Lynn and wife, Eunice Hearn of Lehighton, Pennsylvania, Keith and wife, Vicki Hearn of Plymouth, Iowa, Myron Hearn of Dumont, Marvin and wife, Julie Hearn of Dumont and Larry Hearn of Dumont; one sister: Ruth Siems of Dumont; thirteen grandchildren and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Wilma Berryman and an infant brother. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 13, 2001 at the Dumont Reformed Church with Rev. Bob Scholten and Rev. Jack Ritsema officiating. Special music was provided by organist, Jim Siebrands accom-panying soloist, Chandar Wood. The ushers were Dalen Miller and Dean Deuell. Pallbearers were Gary Krukow, Lee Berryman, Alan Eberline, Jerry Miller, Clark Miller and Russell Siems, Jr. Honorary pallbearers were Jim Miller, Steve Faust, Dean Ufford, Alvin Junker, Eugene Steere, Russell Siems, Lowell Miller and Norman Buseman. Final resting place was in the Dumont Cemetery with Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Dumont in charge of arrangements.


                        POLMATEER

08/17/01 

Laura Amelia Polmateer, 94, of Shell Rock, Iowa, died on Tuesday, August 7, 2001 at the Shell Rock Care Center of natural causes. Laura was born on May 7, 1907 on a farm south of Parkersburg, Iowa, the daughter of George and Ida Ann Daniels Card. She attended country school, graduating from the eighth grade, and then attended high school in Parkersburg through the tenth grade, when she began helping her parents on the farm. On August 31, 1926, she was united in marriage to Alvy William Polmateer in Grundy Center. The couple farmed near Grundy Center until 1932 when they moved to a farm south of Belmond. In 1937, they moved to Shell Rock where Alvy and Laura bought and operated the Shell Rock Gravel and Redi-Mix Company. In 1967 they sold the business and moved to Donna, Texas, where they bought a trailer park and named it Polmateer Trailer Park, which they operated until Alvy died on August 13, 1976. After selling the business, Laura moved to Parkersburg in 1980. After that she traveled between Iowa and Texas until 1988, when she became a resident of the New Horizons in Shell Rock. In August of 2000 she moved to Community Nursing Home, Clarksville, and then to the Shell Rock Care Center, where she was until her death. Laura was a member of the United Methodist Church in Shell Rock, a 50-year member of Royal Neighbors, a 60-year member and Past Noble Grand of the Rebekah Lodge, a former member of Business and Professional Women, and a former member of the Women’s Relief Corp. She is survived by three nephews, Larry Card of Parkersburg, Giles Card of Knoxville, and Gordon Card of Plainfield. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Alvy, three brothers, Clarence, Sheldon and Howard Card, and two sisters, Nellie Kyd and Amy Skiles. Funeral services were held on Thursday, August 9, 2001, at 10:00 a.m. at Shell Rock United Methodist Church with the Rev. Realff Otteson officiating. Organist was Mary Jean Brown and the music was “There Will Be Peace In The Valley” and “Beyond The Sunset.” Casketbearers were James Harris, Harold Anderson, Roger Hartzell, Ray Lenius, Donald Nieman, and Richard Smith. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery in Shell Rock. Memorials may be directed to the family. Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.


SMITH

Mary Smith, age 93, of Parkersburg, Iowa, was born the daughter of George S. and Ella (Meyer) Meyer on December 31, 1907 in Franklin County, Iowa, where she received her education. She spent most of her life on the family farm where she was devoted to raising her children. She enjoyed reading her Bible, spending time in prayer, her children, grandchildren, and entertaining friends and relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Henry Van Ellen and Henry Meinders, an infant son, Duane Wayne; two sisters, Hannah Kennedy and Esther Meyer; four brothers, Sam, Anton, George Junior Meyer; and an infant brother, Harm and an infant great-granddaughter, Rebekah Wilkinson. Mary is survived by her husband, James Smith of Parkersburg; five children, Harriet Finer and her husband, Eldon, of Clear Lake, Iowa; Jean Brown and her husband, Robert of Forest Ontario, Canada; Lloyd Van Ellen of Waverly, Iowa; Judy Meyst and her husband, Charles of Southfield, Michigan; Robert Meinders and his wife, Nancy, of Aplington, Iowa; two step-children, Elmer Smith and his wife, Anna, of Tampa, Florida; Kenneth Smith and his wife, Donnis, of Cedar Falls, Iowa; twelve grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, one great-grandchild will be born in December; three sisters, Minnie Meyer of St. Paul, Minnesota; Lena Swieter of Iowa Falls, Iowa; Pearl Neilson and her husband, Thomas, of Royal Oak, Michigan, two brothers, Harm Meyer and his wife, Maxine, of Iowa Falls, Iowa, and A. J. Meyer and his wife, Helen, of Iowa Falls, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa, Mason City. Funeral Services were held Wednesday, August 15 at Schwartz Funeral Chapel in Aplington with Mr. Robert Orr officiating Casketbearers were Jeff Finer, Robert Brown III, Eric Meinders, Shawn Pittenger, Michael Peters, Jack Toppin, David Van Ellen and Jordan Peters Interment was in Maynes Grove Cemetery, rural Franklin County with Schwartz Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
