Jerry E. Hopkey

Jerry E. Hopkey, 64, of Riviera Beach, Florida, died on Wednesday,
September 4, 2002, at Riviera Beach.
Funeral services will be held on
Wednesday, September 11, 2002, at 2:00 p.m., at the Tenold-Andrews Funeral Home,
Belmond. Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m., with the family being present
from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service. Reverend Michael Druhl of the
Belmond United Methodist Church will be officiating. Burial will be in the
Belmond Cemetery.
Jerry Hopkey, was born on October 25, 1938 in Belmond, the
son of Edward L. and Jennie (Gealow) Hopkey. He attended the Belmond Schools. He
served in the United States Navy. Throughout his life, he had been employed
in various occupations, many of which involved automobiles. He had done
surveying work for the Corp of Engineers on the Mississippi River, had driven
semi tractors, had been employed with the city in Palm Beach County, worked
for a dairy farm in Florida, and worked as a carnival employee.
He liked
fishing, including shark fishing and alligator hunting. He had lived in
Florida for more than 30 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his sister, Norma Jean (Duane)
Thompson of Belmond; daughter, Debbie Hopkey of Casicana, Texas; son, Ronald
Hopkey of Alden, Iowa; grandson, Billy Hopkey; granddaughter, Megan Hopkey;
three nephews; a niece; two step-nephews; and two step-nieces.

Gary Borrill
September 17, 2002
Gary Borrill, 55, of Clear Lake, died on Sunday, September 8, at the Mercy Medical
Center in Mason City.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, September 12, with interment on
Friday,
September 13, in the Clear Lake Cemetery. He was an organ and tissue donor.
Gary was born on August 23, 1947 in Mason City, to Ray and
Clarice Borrill. He graduated from the Clear Lake High School. He worked for his
uncle, Paul and grandfather, Ray Bachellor at Imperial Home Improvement
before becoming the owner. He also worked at the Country Kitchen.
Preceding him in death were his father; brother, Larry;
grandparents; and uncles.
Survivors include his mother of Clear Lake; brother,
Dennis of Belmond; and sister, Nancy (Jeff) Germundson of Manly.

Arlene Slining Davis
September 25, 2002
Arlene Davis, 70, died on Thursday, September 12, 2002, at Council Bluffs. Funeral
services were held on Monday, September 16, in Harlan.
Arlene Joyce Slining, was born to Eunice (Reed) and
Harry Slining on September 19, 1931 at Belmond. She graduated from the Belmond
High School. She married Donald Davis in 1950. They had seven children and
resided in Mason City, Hampton, and then Harlan.
Preceding her in death were two brothers, Robert and
Duane Slining.
Survivors include her husband, Don of Harlan; brothers,
Glenn Slining of Silverton, Oregon and Harry Slining, Jr., of Babbitt,
Minnesota; sisters, Mildred McCree of Des Moines, Joan Kuester of Belmond
and Janet Thornton of Huxley.

Emma Christians Neuberger
September 17, 2002
Emma Hermana Neuberger, 89, died on Friday, September 13, 2002.
Funeral services
were held on Monday, September 16, at the United Methodist Church in Klemme, with
Pastor Paddy Druhl officiating. Interment was in the Ell Township Cemetery near
Klemme.
Organist was Margaret Tue and vocalists were Deborah Schippers and James Miller.
Ushers were Calvin Bruggeman and Raymond
Schoenwetter. Casket bearers were James Miller, Therron Miller, David
Neuberger II, Michael Herman, Ryan Luscombe, Leith Cox, Robert Miller, Wayne
Neuberger, Johan Neuberger, Brent Luscombe and Scott Evans.
Emma Christians, was born on March 12, 1913,
at her parents
home northeast of Klemme, the daughter of John and Christina (Ennega)
Christians. She attended Hancock County Rural Schools.
Emma was united in marriage to William James Neuberger
on February 15, 1934, at the Reformed Church Parsonage in Klemme. The couple
farmed and raised their children east of Klemme. Emma was a life long
homemaker and devoted wife and mother, dedicated to providing a nurturing
and comfortable home to her family. She took great pride in teaching her
children about values, faith, and family.
Emma enjoyed family gatherings and
remembered special events in the lives of her family and friends with cards,
letters or gifts. Her motto was, "If you can't say something good about
someone, don't say anything at all." Emma enjoyed time with her
grandchildren, playing card games with her family, baking bread, canning,
clipping recipes, caring for flowers and gardening and Sunday visits to
relatives. In earlier years, Emma and William enjoyed square dancing and
other ballroom dancing. Her family cherishes the memory of family outings to
the movies on Friday nights with Emma and William.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband,
William in 1997; half-brothers, Peter, Harm, Edward and John Christians;
half-sister, Grace Merkel; brothers, Karsjens, Harold and Duane; sister,
Anna Smith; infant brothers, Elton and Adam; great-grandchildren, Holly
Miller and Daniel Murl; and son-in-law, Arnold V. Miller.
Survivors are a daughter, Marie (Paul) Jurgens
of Latimer; grandchildren, James (Jill) Miller, Robert (Pat) Miller, Kristy
(Mike) Oswald and Therron (Marsha) Miller; great-grandchildren, Heidi, Josh,
Stephanie, Michelle, Bobbi, Daniel, Brian, Clayton, Karter and Blake;
great-great-granddaughter, Kyra; a son, Bill (Madonna) Neuberger of Klemme;
grandchildren, Barbara (Rusty) Murl and Wayne (Juli) Neuberger;
great-grandchildren, Matthew (Audie) Murl, Stacey, Ashley, Andrew, Keri,
Jacob and Jessica; a son, David (Judy) Neuberger of Garner; grandchildren,
David (Kerry) Neuberger II, Julie, Nicole, and Johan Neuberger, Melody
(Bruce) Thome, Mike Stout; great-grandchildren, David "Dane" III, Derek,
Miranda, Brody and Megan; daughter, Marna Ruth (Elwyn) Herman of
Brownsville, Texas; grandchildren, Carol Joy (Ronny) Hearn, Michael Elwyn
Herman, Deborah Marna (Todd) Schippers; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Colby,
Matthew, Rebecca, Trent, and Elaine; a daughter, Marlys (Guy) Luscombe of
Des Moines; grandchildren, Brent (Michelle), Lana, and Ryan Luscombe;
great-grandchildren, Whitney, Brandon, Samantha, and Breanna; daughter,
Margaret Parrett of Cedar Falls; a daughter, Marilyn Cox of Des Moines;
grandson, Leith Cox; a daughter, Marcia Mae (Michael) Evans; grandchildren,
Jennifer, Emily, Amanda, and Scott; sisters, Henrietta Tibbits of Ventura,
Sena (LaVern) Christensen of Clear Lake and Elsie (Bill) Wilson of Ventura;
sisters-in-law, Evelyn Christians of Garner and Ione Nuehring of Mason
City.

Robert F. Schulz

Robert F. Schulz, 79, of Klemme, died on Tuesday, September 17, 2002, at the Concord Care
Center in Garner.
Funeral services were held on Friday, September 20, at the Klemme Methodist
Church, with burial in the Ell Township Cemetery.
Robert was born on June 27, 1923 near Miller, the son of
Frank and Gertrude Geddes Schulz. He graduated from the Klemme High School and
served in the U.S. Army. He married Muriel Stille in 1948 and they farmed
east of Klemme.
Survivors include his wife, Muriel; son, Glenn (Donna)
Schulz of Storm Lake; daughters, Carol (Terry) Tedder of Glenwood and Karen
(Byron) Thada of Indiana; and sister, Frances (Lester) Neuberger of Klemme.

Macy Gatton

Macy Gatton, 8, of Belmond, died on Saturday, September 21, 2002, at the
Mercy Medical Center in Mason City, from injuries received in an auto
accident.
Funeral services for Macy will be held at 10:30 a.m.,
on
Wednesday, September 25, at the United Methodist Church in Belmond, with Pastor
Marc Pluff officiating. Burial will take place in the Amsterdam Township
Cemetery in Kanawha.
Macy Rene Gatton, the daughter of Anthony and Denise
Weide Gatton, was born on June 7, 1994, in Mason City. She attended school in
Thornton and Garner. Macy was in the third grade at Belmond-Klemme Schools
in Belmond.
Macy enjoyed swimming, singing, playing with her Barbie
dolls, and she loved her cats.
Macy belonged to Girl Scouts and Brownies. She
faithfully attended the Dayspring Assembly of God Church in Belmond with her
parents.
Macy is survived by her parents, Anthony and Denise Gatton; maternal grandparents, Sue Weide and Jeff Erickson of Belmond, and
Denise Weide and Shelley Nelson of Fairbault, Minnesota; paternal
grandparents, Walter and Dorothy Gatton of Belmond; maternal
great-grandmother, Liz Allen of Glendale, California; maternal
great-grandfather, Fred Weide of Meservey; paternal great-grandparents,
Kenneth and Mary Joyce Haverly of Wesley and Kenneth and Lavon Gatton of
Algona; aunts and uncles, Christopher and Jackie Gatton of Garner, Andrew
Gatton and Sarah of Klemme, Brenda Gatton of Belmond, David Weide of
Meservey, David Isaacson of Belmond; and two cousins, Alysha and Aliena.

will be held on Monday, September 30, at 11:00 a.m., at the Trinity Lutheran Church. Visitation

Adeline N. Tendall, 78, died on Friday, September 27, at the Kanawha Community
Home.
Funeral services were held on Monday, September 30, 2002, at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home in
Belmond, with burial in the Belmond Cemetery.
Adeline Neoma, the daughter of LeRoy and Gladys Swenson
Tendall, was born on November 5, 1923 near Kanawha. She attended country school
and was confirmed at the St. Olaf Lutheran Church. She attended the opportunity
centers in Clarion and Humboldt. She lived with her parents in Belmond and
later at a group home in Eagle Grove.
Survivors include sisters, LaVina Bakken of Garner,
Ruby (Cletis) Hundertmark of Ottosen and Marilyn (Richard) Howieson of Clarion;
and brother, Roger (Delores) Tendall of Garner.

Irma Maxheimer

Irma Maxheimer, 70, of Marshalltown, died on Saturday, September 28, 2002,
at the Oakview Care Center in Conrad.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, October 2, with
interment at Beaman, Iowa.
Irma was born on May 30, 1932 near Clarion, the daughter
of Elmer and Isel (Mechem) Maxheimer. She was raised on a farm and graduated
from the Clarion High School. In 1952 she moved to Marshalltown where she worked
as a purchasing clerk until her retirement in 1996.
Preceding her in death were her parents: brothers, Bob Maxheimer and Randall Matson.
Survivors include her sister, Alice (Everett) Sams of
Whitten; and brothers, Paul (Naomi) Maxheimer and Lee Maxheimer, all of
Clarion.

Donald G. Robinson

Donald G. Robinson, 66, of Belmond, died on Sunday, September 29, 2002, at
the
Belmond Medical Center.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, October 3, at
10:30 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Belmond, with Pastor Mike Druhl officiating. Burial will take place in
the Belmond Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-8:00 p.m., on Wednesday, at
the
Dugger Ewing Funeral Home and one hour prior to services at the church. At
the family's request, memorials may be directed to the Wright County Hospice or
the Belmond United Methodist Church.
Don, the son of Merrels and Pearl Bergman Robinson, was
born on September 1, 1936, in Hancock County. He grew up in the Britt area
and attended country school at Orthel Township #5. Following graduation from
the Britt
High School in 1954, Don was employed as an auto mechanic for the Buick
garage. He was also a member of the Army Reserves from 1954-1960.
On June 10, 1962, Don was married to Chloris Anderson
at the Christian Church in Stanhope. The couple lived in Britt until the
fall of 1963 when they moved to Belmond.
Don received his FCC Commercial Radio-Telephone license
and was employed with the Iowa Department of Public Safety for 34 years as a
radio dispatcher and later as radio technician. For the last seven years Don
hauled corn for H & J Buseman Farms.
In 1994, Don was named "Lion of the Year". He was a
member of the United Methodist Church in Belmond where he served as an
usher, and on the finance, trustee and nominating committees. He was on the
board of the Belmond Community Apartments, Belmond Planning and Zoning
Commission, and active in the Wright County Crime Stoppers.
Don enjoyed hunting and camping. He spent many hours on
his amateur radio talking with people from over 80 countries.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Don is survived by his wife, Chloris; two sons, Daniel
Robinson of Dallas, Texas and Rick Robinson of Des Moines; two
grandchildren, Jazmin and Irie Robinson; and a sister, Grace Robinson of
Britt.
