Marvin Anderson

Marvin R. Anderson, age 83, of Glenville, died on Thursday,
November 2, 2006, at the Lutheran Retirement Home in
Northwood, Iowa.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., on Monday,
November 6, 2006, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in
Myrtle. Pastor Jeff Wallager officiated. Interment was in
the Wanderer’s Rest Cemetery, with Military Honors accorded
by the Freeborn County Servicemen’s Organizations.
Visitation was held from 4–7:00 p.m., on Sunday, November 5,
at the Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to
the services at the Church.
Marvin Raymond Anderson, was born on February 13, 1923, to
Emil C. and Silda (Wolff) Anderson in Northwood. He was
baptized at the Zion Lutheran Church in Northwood and
confirmed at the Hayward Lutheran Church.
Marvin attended schools in Glenville and Albert Lea. He
served in the United States Army during WW II from January
1943 to January 1946. Marvin was with the 735th Tank
Battalion in Europe, in the 3rd Army. He received all 5
campaign awards – Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland,
Ardennes and Central Europe.
On June 20, 1948, Marvin was united in marriage to Arlynn E.
Broitzman at the Zion Lutheran Church in Northwood. The
couple began farming in 1948 and enjoyed working the land.
He was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Myrtle,
the American Legion, the VFW, the Eagles, and the Wanderer’s
Rest Cemetery Board. Marvin and Arlynn enjoyed many good
times together on and off the farm with their children and
grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Arlynn of Glenville; children,
Sandi (Bill) Severtson of Lake Lillian, Steven (LeAnn)
Anderson of Glenville, Jeanette (Paul) Johnson of Albert Lea
and Linda (Tom) Lorenzen of Glenville; grandchildren,
Michele Dahlk, Dawn Teetzel, Robert Severtson, Paul
Anderson, Chad Anderson, Carolyn Rasmusson, Joel, Andy, and
Ben Johnson, Erin Hornberger and Fallon and Lindsey Lorenzen;
13 great-grandchildren; two future great-grandchildren; and
two step-great-grandchildren; sisters, Donna Becksted of
Cannon Falls and Pauline (Ersel) Coffett of Bloomington; and
sister-in-law, Eunice Anderson of Albert Lea.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter,
Carol Jean Anderson; brothers, Clair Anderson, Elburn
Anderson and Orville Anderson; and sisters, Harriett Kvalo
and Karen Fulkerson.
Marvin was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather who
will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him.

Roxianne Reyerson

Roxianne “Roxie” Reyerson,
56, of Nevada, died on Sunday, November 5, 2006, at the Mercy Medical
Center-North Iowa in Mason City.
Memorial services were held at 2:30 p.m., on Thursday,
November 9, at the Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada, with
Pastor David Burling officiating. Inurnment was in the
Nevada Municipal Cemetery.
Visitation with the family was from 6-8:00 p.m., on Wednesday, at
the Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada.
Roxie was born on January 7, 1950 in Mason City, Iowa, the
daughter of John Raymond and Vivian (Dahl) Thoen.
She was
united in marriage to Travis Reyerson on September 25, 1971, at
the
Elk Creek Lutheran Church at Kensett, Iowa. Roxie graduated
from the Northwood-Kensett High School in 1968 and from UNI in
1976. She was a special education teacher at Central
Elementary in Nevada.
Roxie was a member of the Memorial
Lutheran Church. She enjoyed quilting, garage sales, her
pets, flowers, and dancing. She loved her students, friends
and her family. Roxie loved to help anyone in need.
Roxie is survived by her husband, Travis Reyerson of
Nevada; two sons, Brant (Annie) Reyerson of Ankeny and
Clint Reyerson of Phoenix, Arizona; her mother, Vivian Thoen of
Kensett; 2 brothers, Dennis (LaBonnie) Thoen of Salt
Lake City, Utah and Dallas Thoen of Kensett; and 5 sisters,
Sandi Miner of Northwood, Bonnie Stanton of Palm Harbor,
Florida, Patti Edenfield of Kensett, Sherry Burns of
Waterford, Wisconsin and Shelly Thoen of Ft. Dodge.
Roxie was preceded in death by her father, Raymond Thoen;
and three brothers, Rodney and two in infancy.
The Bacon Funeral Home and Crematory of Nevada handled the
arrangements.

Maynard Roisen
November 22, 2006
Maynard William Roisen, 83,
passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, November 12, 2006, in
Lincoln, Nebraska.
A memorial service was held on Friday, November 17, at
Lincoln, Nebraska. Maynard was laid to rest next to Ruth and
Jay in Everly, Iowa.
Born at home on May 11, 1923, in rural Scarville,
Iowa, to Martin and Ida Fenney Roisen, he was the eldest of
seven children. The family moved to the Northwood-Kensett
area in 1924 and farmed there until 1951.
Maynard started his education with six other classmates
at Kensett #5, a one-room country schoolhouse. He
graduated from the Kensett High School in 1940 and attended Iowa
State University in Ames, majoring in Electrical
Engineering.
World War II flared and Maynard was drafted, although
he was allowed to finish his school year. Joining the Army
in 1941, he became a member of the 100th Division of the
398th Regiment, with the seventh Army. Sent to France and
Germany, he received the Silver Star for “unusual bravery
and initiative under fire”‚ when “his division captured the
key railway city of Heilbronn, Germany after a bitter
nine-day, house-to-house struggle”. He also received a
purple heart for injuries sustained during battle near the
southern end of the Maginot Line in France.
Returning to Iowa in 1946 after his discharge, Maynard
continued his education at Iowa State, graduating in 1949
with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He worked for
Reiter Electric in Northwood and married Ruth Meyers of
Everly, Iowa, on July 10, 1954. They lived in Mason City until
1960, when they moved to Fostoria, Ohio and had one son,
Jay, born in 1961.
In 1965, they moved to Lincoln, Nebraska where he
initially worked in the Electrical Engineering Department at
the University of Nebraska. He later went into business as
an electrical contractor in Lincoln and continued in this
business until 1999.
Maynard was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth in 1991; son, Jay in 1993;
and sister, Mildred Roisen Ensley in 1987.
He is survived by
sisters, Sylvia Roisen Johnson of Kenai, Alaska, Agnes Roisen
Reich of Brentwood, Missouri and Ida May Roisen of Garner,
Iowa; his brothers, Wilfred Roisen of Boyne City, Michigan
and Benjamin Roisen of Sunnyvale, California; and several
cousins, nieces and nephews in northern Iowa and Minnesota.

Borseth

Ramona J.
Borseth, 78, of Northwood, died on Wednesday, November 15, 2006, at
the Manly
Nursing and Rehab Center, Manly.
Funeral services were held
at 2:30 p.m., on Saturday, November 18, 2006, at the Schroeder & Sites
Funeral Home in Northwood, with Rev. Barbara Wills
officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Oakwood
Cemetery, Austin, Minnesota. Visitation was held on Friday evening
from 6-8:00 p.m.
Ramona (Mona) June (Longshore) Borseth, was born on June 19, 1928,
to Leon and June (McLaughlin) Longshore in Ames, the
only child in the family.
She attended school in Ames for a few years until the
family moved to Boone. Mona finished her schooling there
in 1946. In the fall of 1946, she started to work for
Northwestern Bell Telephone Company, as an operator until
September 1952. At that time she married Eugene Borseth and
moved to a farm near Northwood. She worked for a time at the
telephone office in Northwood until they went dial. Mona was
confirmed in the Lutheran faith at the First Lutheran Church in
1954.
She and her husband raised three children. In 1968,
they moved to Northwood where she was a receptionist and
bookkeeper in the family's business, Borseth Repair. She
retired in 1993. Mona was happy at all her work, telephone,
housewife, helping others and assisting her husband with the
business. She loved watching her children grow and later her
grandchildren, whenever they came to visit or she went to
see them. She also enjoyed gardening, canning, and baking.
She entered bread in the fair two years, and took the blue
ribbon both times.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leon and June Longshore; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Iver and
Minnie Borseth; many aunts and uncles; and many dear
friends.
Ramona is survived by her husband, Eugene; son, Layne and wife,
Valerie and their sons, Rollie, Glen and his wife, Kaci, and
their children, Samantha and Madisyn; daughter, Roxann and
husband, Keith Asleson and their son, Blake; son, Lonnie and
his wife, Diane and their son, Caleb.

Stacey Goodrich

Stacey Goodrich, 39,
formerly of Cherokee, Iowa, died on Friday November 17, 2006, at
the St
Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota, following a lengthy
illness.
Funeral services were held on Monday, November 20, at 10:30 a.m., at
the St. Paul’s
United Methodist Church, Cherokee Iowa. Rev. Ray Hampton
officiated. Burial was at 4:00 p.m., Monday, in the Greenwood
Cemetery in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Visitation was held on Sunday from 1-9:00 p.m., with the family present from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00
p.m., at the Greenwood Funeral Home, Cherokee, Iowa.
Stacey was born on March 13, 1967 in Cedar Falls, Iowa, to Larry
and Joyce (Garth) Goodrich. In 1976, she moved with her
family to Cherokee, Iowa where she was a Washington High
School graduate in 1986. She attended Northwestern College
in Orange City, Iowa, graduating in 1991 with a degree in
social work. She returned to Cherokee, Iowa and was
employed by Cherokee Work Services for several years. As a
result of her handicap and deteriorating health she moved to
Sioux City, Iowa, residing at the Indian Hills Care Center
in 2000. In July of 2002, Stacey moved to Manly, Iowa,
residing in the Manly Care Center, to be closer to her
doctors at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
Stacey was the Easter Seals poster child in 1979. She
enjoyed all music, romantic comedy movies and due to her
strong faith she embraced a fine sense of humor and a
positive outlook. Stacey had worked as a counselor at Camp
Sunnyside while she was in high school. She truly
appreciated the kindness and support of the people of
Cherokee and the various communities in which she had lived.
Survivors include her parents, Larry and Joyce Goodrich
of Cherokee; a sister, Kelsey Goodrich of Omaha,
Nebraska; a brother, Garth Goodrich of Cedar Falls, Iowa;
her maternal grandmother, Dorothy Garth of Cedar Falls,
Iowa; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather,
George Garth; fraternal grandparents, Dale and Mona
Goodrich; and her aunt, Sherri Goodrich.

Elaine Nygren
November 29, 2006
Elaine Nygren, 80, of Berthoud, Colorado, passed away at the
Sierra Vista Health Care Center on Saturday, November 18,
2006, after a short illness.
Memorial services were held at 10:30 a.m., on Monday,
November 27, 2006, at the First Presbyterian Church in
Berthoud. Inurnment took place following the memorial
service in the Green Lawn Cemetery in Berthoud.
Elaine was born on November 19, 1925 in Northwood, to Anna (Loberg)
Butler and Clinton "Tony" Butler. As an only child, Elaine
always felt fortunate to grow up in a small close-knit
community surrounded by family and friends that she kept her
entire life.
Elaine Butler and John Nygren eloped to Saint Francis,
Kansas in 1947. They were truly best friends and for almost
40 years they had many adventures and encountered many
interesting characters along the road of life.
One of her proudest achievements was earning her Nursing
Degree in 1972 at the Community College of Denver. She had
worked as both a Registered Nurse and a Director of Nursing
in several nursing homes in the Loveland and Longmont areas.
Elaine is survived by a daughter, Linda Walker and husband,
Skip of Fort Collins; a son, Scot Nygren and wife, Nancy of
Windsor; and a daughter, JoEllen Nygren of Berthoud; eight
grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and cousins,
nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John;
a son, Robert "Bob" Nygren; a great-granddaughter, Makayla
Belew; and a son-in-law, Roy Jones.
Elaine will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Obert Stromley

Obert Allen Stromley, of Marble Rock, died on
Tuesday, November 28, 2006, at the Muse Norris Hospice
Inpatient Unit, Mason City.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday
December 2, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Manly, with
Pastor Linda Johnson Prestholt and Pastor Patricia Shaw
officiating. Interment was in the Memorial Park Cemetery,
Mason City. Visitation was held on Friday from 5-7:00 p.m.,
at the Bride Colonial Chapel, Manly.
Memorials may be directed to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church,
Manly or the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Marble Rock.
Obert Allen Stromley, was born on September 27, 1916 in
Mona, the son of Christian and Nelina (Johnson) Stromley. Obert
attended the Somber Lutheran School, Mona and the Lyle
Community School. He farmed with his father, until moving to
Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he attended the Dunwoody
Institute for body and fender work.
Obert was united in marriage to DeAlda Burdella Anderson on
July 26, 1943, at the Central Lutheran Church, Minneapolis
and to this union five children were born. In 1946, the
family moved from the Twin Cities to Manly, where he owned
and operated the Manly Motor Company, which expanded into to
selling boats and motors.
After retirement in 1978, Obert enjoyed the craft of
woodworking. He would travel around to craft shows selling
his assorted woodworking crafts. Obert was a member of the
Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Manly where he served as
president on the church council, St. Paul's Lutheran Church,
and a past member of the Manly City Council.
He loved dancing, fishing, camping, traveling south for the
winter and north for the summer to their lake home on Lake
Jefferson, in Minnesota. Obert's greatest love was spending
time with his family and friends.
Obert is survived by his children, Richard (Pat) Stromley of
Mason City, Deanna Stromley of Eden Prairie, Minnesota,
Duane (Daphne) Stromley of Manly, John Stromley of
Burlington and Janice (Gary) Marken of Manly; grandchildren,
Randall (Kris) Stromley of Des Moines, Robert Stromley and
fiancée, (Kristi Tabbert) of Mason City, Dawn (Scott)
Bentten of Lisbon, North Dakota, Danita (Travis) Ostrom of
Grand Forks, North Dakota, Andrew (Amie) Marken of Manly,
Sara Marken of Manly and her special friend, Travis Dunbar
of Mason City; great-grandchildren, Abigail, Samuel, and
Claire Stromley, Hunter and Isac Bentten, brothers and
sisters, Reuben (Helen) Stromley, Esther Nelson, Rodney
(Wilma) Stromley, Wayne (Linda) Stromley, Mike Stromley,
Marg (Dean) Saathoff, Ardith, Barbara, and Rachael;
sisters-in-law, Eleanor Stromley, Velma (Don) Roberts, Joy (LaVern)
Warner, Arlene (Leo) Martie, Norma Streich, Charlotte Cobeen

Paul Helgeson

Paul Steven Helgeson, 64,
of Northwood, died on Wednesday, November 29, 2006, at the
Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday,
December 2, at the Evangelical Free Church, Clear Lake, with
Reverend David Wiersbe officiating. Burial was held at 2:00
p.m., on Saturday, in the Sunset Rest Cemetery in
Northwood. Visitation was held from 5-8:00 p.m., on Friday,
at the Conner Colonial Chapel, Northwood. Visitation was
also held one hour prior to service time on Saturday at the
church.
The family of Paul Steven Helgeson has requested that in
lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the
Fairgrounds Beautification Project in Northwood, Kim
Thorsfeldt Day Spring School in South Africa, or to the
Okoboji Lutheran Bible Camp in his memory.
Paul Steven Helgeson, was born on January 6, 1942 in Story
City, Iowa, the son of Kerner and Florence (Severson)
Helgeson. He attended and graduated from the Radcliffe High
School in 1960, Waldorf College in 1962, and also from Iowa
State University. Upon completing his schooling he was a
salesman for Farm Service Company in Indianola, Iowa before
moving to Northwood to raise his family on their farm west
of Northwood. He also worked for Farm Service Company in
Worth County, and sold insurance for Farm Bureau in
Northwood. The family farmed for 25 years in the Northwood
area before his retirement moving into Northwood in 2002.
He was united in marriage to Sharon "Shar baby" Reyerson on
August 1, 1964, at the Silver Lake Lutheran Church, rural
Northwood, and to this union three children were born,
Michelle, Susan and Steven.
He enjoyed entertaining friends, hosting bible study groups,
music, auctions, remodeling homes, landscaping, and his
mission trip to Mexico with the Christian farmers
organization, but his great love and enjoyment was his
family, grandchildren, and countless friends. Paul was also
a special uncle to his many nieces and nephews.
He was a member of the Evangelical Free Church in Clear
Lake, First Lutheran Church in Northwood, and the Worth
County Extension Council in Northwood.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 42 years, Sharon
Helgeson of Northwood; children, Michelle Perry and her
husband, Rick of Marion, Iowa, Susan Kliment and her
husband, Darrin of Northwood and Steven Helgeson and his
wife, Katie of Roland, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Alyssa,
Rachel, Jaclyn, and Nicholas Perry, Caleb, Samuel, and
Josiah Paul Kliment; sister, Kathryn Helgeson of Gurnee,
Illinois; brother, Thomas Helgeson and his wife, Barbara of
Radcliffe, Iowa; sister, Linda Thompson and her husband,
Dave of Shenandoah, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, and
countless friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Benjamin
Perry; nephew, Douglas Thompson; and a niece, Connie
Helgeson-Moen.
