Joshua
Ryan Kuhlmann, 17, of Northwood, died, surrounded by his
loving family and friends, on Monday, July 3, 2006,
following a long courageous battle with Muscular Dystrophy,
at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa
City.
Funeral services were held
at 1:00 p.m., on Monday, July 10, 2006, at the First
Lutheran Church, Northwood, with Reverend Wayne Hagen of the
First Lutheran Church and Reverend Robert Luebbert of the
Northwood Baptist Church officiating. Burial was in the
Sunset Rest Cemetery in Northwood. Visitation was held from
11:00 a.m. until service time on Monday at the church.
Joshua Ryan Kuhlmann, was
born on December 21, 1988, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of
Gail Kuhlmann and Stephen Ingersoll. He attended and
received his education in the Northwood-Kensett Community
Schools, and would have been a senior this year. Despite the
physical challenges of Muscular Dystrophy, Joshua was on the
high school honor roll. While at school, Joshua belonged to
a chess club.
Joshua enjoyed immensely all the festivities at the
Junior-Senior Prom, his close friends, especially Zack
Willis who he considered a brother, and giving advise to his
younger brother, Cody. He enjoyed playing Nintendo Video
Games, cards, Checkers, and going to the library.
Joshua was very well liked
and admired by his classmates, who insisted that he attend
the Junior-Senior Prom. Joshua was a person who brought out
the best in everyone and always had a smile for you.
Left to cherish his memory
are his parents, Gail Kuhlmann of Northwood and Stephen
Ingersoll of Plymouth; his brothers, Gerad Kuhlmann and his
fiancée, Jessica Freerksen of Northwood, Cody Cox of
Northwood and his brother-in-soul, Zack Willis of Northwood;
his grandfathers, Gaylord LaVon Kuhlmann from Northwood,
residing in Manly and William Ingersoll of Old Town,
Florida; his aunts, Linda Carlson of Northwood and her
fiancée, Bob Link of Mason City, Kathy Rush and her husband,
Kurt of Mason City, Sandra Jacobson and her husband, David
of Dillon, Iowa and Jody Damman and her husband, Robert of
Statler, Iowa; his uncles, Steve Carlson of Manly and
William Ingersoll, Jr, and his wife, Michelle of Moline,
Illinois and Curtis Ingersoll and his wife, Ruth of
Hooperville, Wisconsin; two special nephews, Dylon Freerksen
and Collin Kuhlmann; his cousins, Amber Carlson and her
daughter, Trinity, Laura Carlson, Garrett Carlson and Aaron
and Jordan Rush; as well as many other cousins and many
friends.
He was preceded in death
by his grandmothers, Joyce Kuhlmann and Verdean Ingersoll;
and an uncle, Gary Kuhlmann.

Grace Christiansen, 88,
died on Tuesday, July 4, 2006, at the Pleasant Care Living
Center in Pleasantville.
Funeral services were held
at the Mason Funeral Home in Pleasantville on Monday, July
10, at 5:30 p.m. Burial followed in the Pleasantville
Cemetery.
Grace was raised in New
Sharon. She taught country school and then became a social
worker. She was the Director of Social Services for Worth
County for 20 years. After her retirement in 1980, she moved
to Pleasantville.
She is survived by her
niece, Connie (Harlan) Dagget of Pleasantville.
Memorials may be made to
the Pleasantville Church of Christ.

Garda Blanche Ones
July 19, 2006
Garda Blanche Ones, 84, of 521 S. Louisiana Avenue, died on Monday,
July 10, 2006, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., on Friday, July 14, at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N.
Pennsylvania Avenue, with Rev. Steve Palo officiating. Interment was held in
the Elk
Creek Lutheran Cemetery, rural Kensett. Visitation was held on Thursday at
the Major
Erickson Funeral Home, and continued at the church one hour before the service.
Memorials may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church or Hospice of North Iowa.
Garda was born on February 13, 1922 in rural Kensett, Iowa, on the family farm,
daughter of Knut and Clara (Lestrud) Flaaten. She was confirmed at the Elk Creek
Lutheran Church, rural Kensett. Garda graduated from the Kensett High School and
later Hamilton Business College. She worked briefly in Waterloo for Rath
Packing before returning to Mason City, where she worked for International
Harvester.
Garda married John J. Ones on June 16, 1951, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Mason
City. After raising their family, she returned to work as a secretary at North
Iowa Area Community College until retirement. Garda was an active member of the
Trinity Lutheran Church, a member of Sons of Norway and a life member of the USS
Colorado Alumni Association. She had a special interest in Genealogy and
enjoyed her friendships through her card club. She was a loving mother and
grandmother.
Garda is survived by her sons, Craig J. Ones and wife, Jill of Omaha, Nebraska, Keith
I. Ones and wife, Teresa of San Ramon, California and Bryan R. Ones of Mason City;
grandchildren, Christin, Kathryn, Laura, Natalie and Lizabeth Ones, Rachel
Glanzer and husband, Andrew, Danielle and Jonathan Ones; and many nieces and
nephews.
Garda was preceded in death by her parents, Knut and Clara Flaaten; husband,
John; and brother, Truman Flaaten.

Lucille Van Horn

Lucille Virginia Van Horn, 92, of Mason City, died on Friday, July 14, 2006, at the
Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., on Sunday, July 16, 2006, at the Trinity
Lutheran Church, Mason City, with Reverend Kathy Graves officiating. Burial was
held in the Clear Lake Cemetery at 10:00 a.m., on Monday, July 17. Visitation was held
on Saturday, July 15, at the Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, Mason City. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to service time on Sunday at the
church.
Lucille Virginia (Hanna) Van Horn, was born on April 24, 1914 in Clear Lake, the
daughter of Robert M. and Marie (Bitker) Hanna. She attended and received her
education in the Clear Lake Schools, graduating from the Clear Lake High School in
1932.
She was united in marriage to Harley D. Van Horn on September 24, 1935
in Clear Lake. He preceded her in death on March 11, 1983. In 1946, they began
farming around the Northwood, Kensett, and Manly areas, before moving to Mason
City in 1960. Lucille worked as a cook for the Mason City Public Schools for 10
years, until her retirement in 1976. Lucille had been a resident of the
Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood, since May 5, 2006.
She enjoyed crocheting, fishing, flowers, crossword puzzles, gardening, and
canning, but her great love and enjoyment was her family and grandchildren.
She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and Women of the Moose in Mason
City.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Ben K. Van Horn and his wife, Eva of
Columbus, Wisconsin, Donna R. Caldwell and her husband, L. James of Waterloo, Maxine Jo Colstrup and her husband, Kenneth of Remer, Minnesota, Jack D. Van Horn and his wife,
Diane of Northwood and Anita L. Madsen and her husband, Harvey of Longville, Minnesota;
17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren;
three great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Hanna and his wife, Phyllis of
Ventura; a special niece, Rosemary Ward of Clear Lake; and a special friend,
Rita Diekhuis of Mason City; as well as other relatives and friends.
Besides her husband, Harley; her parents; a daughter who died in infancy; a son,
Darrell Gene Van Horn; two brothers, Harold and Carl Hanna; and two sisters,
Marion Conner and Elizabeth Olsen; also preceded Lucille in death.

Majory “Margie” Haugebak, of Tempe,
Arizona, passed away peacefully in her home, on Wednesday, July 19, 2006.
A memorial service and celebration of her life was held at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday,
July 29, at the Mountain Park Community Church. Donations in her honor may be made
to the Hospice of Arizona and the Hirshberg Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer.
The daughter of Joe and Helen Eppinger, Margie was born on April 22, 1942 in
Jerome, Arizona. She graduated from the Glendale High School in 1960, where she met
and married high school sweetheart and husband of 45 years, Mark Haugebak.
Margie was preceded in death by two sisters, Joanne and Mary; brother, Carl; and
parents, Joe and Helen Eppinger.
She is survived by her husband, Mark; her
children, Mark Jr. (Lori) and Shelley (Joe) Castor; and her grandchildren, Jaime,
Jess, Kyle, Joey, and Jaxon.
Also missing her are sister, Emma Quinn; and brothers, Joe and Bobby Eppinger;
along with many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and relatives.
Parents-in-law, Marle and Louise Haugebak of Northwood, Iowa; and mother-in-law,
Beryl Heltne of Arizona; are also mourning her death.
She will be remembered by those who loved her for her smile, laughter, courage,
strength, and unforgettable sense of humor.

Evelyn Kathryn Brunsvold, 84, of
Albert Lea,
Minnesota, died on Thursday, July 20, 2006, at the St. Mary's Hospital in
Rochester,
Minnesota.
Funeral services were held at
1:00 p.m., on Monday, July 24, 2006, at the Grace
Lutheran Church, with Reverend
John Henriksen officiating. Burial will be in the
Somber
Lutheran
Cemetery, rural
Lake Mills,
Iowa. Visitation was held on Sunday, at the
Conner Colonial Chapel, Northwood, and one hour prior to service time on Monday
at the church.
The family of Evelyn Kathryn Brunsvold has requested that memorial contributions
be made to the Somber
Lutheran
Cemetery, in her memory.
Evelyn Kathryn Brunsvold, was born on March 29, 1922 in Northwood, the daughter of Albert W.
and Ida (Nieman-Hagen) Ewald. She was baptized and reaffirmed the faith of her
baptism through confirmation at the
Zion
Lutheran
Church in Northwood. She attended
kindergarten through the fifth grade at the Northwood Public School, and sixth
through eighth grade at a rural
Worth
County
School, graduating from
the
Northwood High School
in May of 1940. Evelyn also attended Iowa
State Teachers College
in Cedar Falls and later taught in
a rural
Worth
County
School for two years.
She was united in marriage to Arnold Brunsvold on June 21, 1942, at
the
Zion
Lutheran
Church in Northwood. Together they
lived in rural Northwood, rural Hanlontown, and
Forest
City, and most recently in Albert
Lea.
Evelyn worked as a homemaker, waitress,
Avon representative, as a driver delivering Winnebago
Motor Homes, as a clerk in the Forest
City bakery, as a courier for Kodak
film processing, and as a bookkeeper for
Arnold's Windshield repair
business.
Evelyn enjoyed reading, dancing, baking, and embroidery work, but her great love
and enjoyment was spending time with her children and grandchildren, and she will be
greatly missed by all who knew her.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Arnold Brunsvold of Albert Lea; her
children and grandchildren, Patricia (Bill) Searles of Albert Lea and their
family, Troy, Marnie, Shannon, and Natalie; Travis (Marcia) Brunsvold of
Bettendorf, Iowa and their family, Jesse and Nicole, Marilyn (Dick) Helling of
Hudson, Iowa and their family, Kristopher, Aaron and Melissa, Judy Benson of
Forest City and her fiancée, Rick Becker of Shakopee, Minnesota and her daughter,
Tiffany and Gary (Jennifer) Brunsvold of Yukon, Oklahoma and their children, Morgan
and Garrett.
Also left to cherish her memory are her great-grandchildren,
Taylor, Calli (Troy's), Samantha,
Dylan and Brooke (Marnie's), Hanna (Natalie's), and a baby boy due in September
(Tiffany's).
She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; a daughter who died in
infancy; son, Larry; grandson, Jerimy (Judy's); and a sister, Irene Gullickson.

Becky Fishback, 43 years old, died on Friday, July 28,
2006.
She is the daughter of Charles and Mary Groe, Northwood.
Funeral services will be held at the Zion Lutheran Church in West Des Moines on
Friday, August 4, at 10:00 a.m.
Burial will be at the Sion Lutheran Church, rural Lake Mills, on Friday, August 4, at
4:00 p.m.
She is survived by her husband, Eric and sons, Wyatt, age 10 and Nathan, age 11
all of Ankeny.
