Mark A Schrader, 40, of Austin, Texas, formerly of Northwood,
died on Thursday, January 1, 2004.
Cremation will be at the All Faiths Funeral Service, Austin,
Texas. Memorial services were held at the James Whitehead's home in Austin, Texas.
Mark was born to Gene and Carol (Ferley) Schrader on October 12,
1963 in Ottumwa, Iowa. He was confirmed at the First Lutheran Church, Northwood and
graduated from the Northwood-Kensett High School in 1983. Soon after graduation he
enlisted in the army. He spent the last 20 years of his life either in the Army
and the National Guard. Mark enjoyed spending time with his friends.
Survivors include Mark's mother, Carol (Ferley) Roemeling of
Kiester, Minnesota; father, Gene Schrader of Vacaville, California; sister and husband, Dawn and
Greg Flaskerud and two children of Kiester, Minnesota; grandmother, Marie Schrader;
and aunts,
uncles and cousins.
Mark was preceded in death by his grandparents, Gilbert and
Wilma Ferley and Kenneth Schrader.

Alliedell Clark

Alliedell Clark, 57, died on Saturday, January
3, 2004, at the Muse Norris Hospice in Mason City.
Memorial services will be held at
10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, January 7, at the Bethany Lutheran Church, Kensett. The Rev.
Allan Stoa will officiate. Interment will be in the State Line Cemetery. Friends
may greet the family from 5-7:00 p.m., on Tuesday, at the Bayview/Freeborn Funeral
Home and one hour prior to the services at the church on Wednesday.
Alliedell Alice Clark, was born on July 14, 1946 in Albert
Lea, the daughter of Raymond and Berdie (Youmans) Smith. She grew up in the
Glenville area and graduated from the Glenville High School in 1964. On July 10,
1969, Allie married Jerry Clark in Canton, South Dakota. Allie and Jerry moved form rural
Glenville to Kensett in 2001.
She worked at several different jobs throughout her
life, including selling airline tickets while her husband was stationed in
Germany, data entry for Young America, and as a shipping clerk for JenSales in
Manchester. Allie was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church in Kensett and of the
Kensett Women’s Club. She had served on the board of the Kensett Museum and the
Kensett Housing Board.
Survivors include her husband, Jerry of Kensett; her
children, Annette and her husband, Charles Fairchild of Waynesville, Missouri and Curt
and his wife, Lisa Clark of Albert Lea; four grandchildren; one great-grandson;
and several cousins.
Allie was preceded in death by her parents; and her
grandparents.

Harry Henry Diedrich

Harry
Henry Diedrich, 90, died on Sunday, January 4, 2004, at the Mercy Medical Center North
Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, January 7, at the Emmanuel
Lutheran Church, Grafton, with the Rev. Wayne Ellingson officiating. Burial will
be in the Grafton Cemetery, Grafton. Visitation will be on Tuesday, January 6, from
5-7:00 p.m., at the Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar.
Harry Henry Diedrich, was born on February 8, 1913 in Mitchell
County, the son of William F. and Freeda (Dutte) Diedrich. He was baptized at
his parents' home and confirmed in 1929 at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Grafton,
where he was a member his entire life. He received his education in the Newburg
District School in Mitchell County. On February 6, 1938, he married Velma Seeger at
the
Bethlehem Lutheran Church near Myrtle, Minnesota.
The couple farmed in the Grafton and
Carpenter areas with Harry having a threshing route in his early farming years.
He also drove a school bus for the St. Ansgar Community Schools for 18 years.
Following their retirement, the couple moved to their present home in Grafton in
1975. Harry served as President of the Newburg No. 5 Township School, Secretary
of the Grafton Telephone Co., served on the Grafton Manor, cemetery and church
boards and was active in Senior Citizens.
Harry enjoyed gatherings with family
and friends, especially the yearly Diedrich reunion, sightseeing trips to
western states and fishing trips to northern Minnesota. As a young man he
enjoyed playing the violin and oboe in the church orchestra and band. His
hobbies included restoring antique furniture and woodworking.
Harry is survived by his wife, Velma of 65 years; son, David Diedrich and wife, Darlene of Grafton; daughters, Janice Morrison of Albert Lea
and Julie Braun and special friend, David Ward of Mason City; one
brother, John Diedrich of St. Ansgar; and some special cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother; a
brother-in-law, Herbert Seeger of Albert Lea; and sister-in-law, Lillian and
husband, Eric Buntrock of Minneapolis.

Mildred E. Wolff, 82, of Glenville, died on
Sunday, January 4, 2004, at the St. Johns Lutheran Home.
Funeral services will be
held on Thursday, January 8, at the First Lutheran Church of Glenville. The Rev. Mark Wendland will officiate. Interment will be in
the Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation
will be from 4-7:00 p.m., on Wednesday, January 7, at the Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home

Mildred Evelyn Wolff, was born on April 17, 1921 in Albert
Lea, the daughter of Henry and Stella (Madson) Means. She was baptized and
confirmed at the First Lutheran Church, Albert Lea. Millie graduated from the Albert Lea
High School. On December 31, 1940 she married LaVerne Wolff at the First Lutheran
Church, Albert Lea.
Millie was a homemaker and had worked for Wilson's and
Montgomery Wards. Millie was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Glenville and
was active in the Ladies Aid and as Sunday School Superintendent.
Survivors include her husband, LaVerne of Glenville; children,
Rosalie Rolands of Glenville, Barbara and her husband, Dave Reckard of Mountain
Home, Arkansas, L. Phillip and his wife, Rosemary Wolff of Albert Lea, Diane and her
husband, Glenn Hulburt of Waterville and David and his wife, Terri Wolff of
Brooklyn Center; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two
great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Beverly Boone of Albert Lea, Phyllis and her
husband, Jim Phillips of Cedar Rapids and Joy and her husband, Byrine Christian of
Albert Lea; brothers, Dean Means and Frank Means, both of Albert Lea; and
nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her mother-in-law
and father-in-law; sister, Donna Estebo; sister-in-law, Lora Means;
brothers-in-law, Chessele Boone, Sid Estebo and Paul Gillian; and her sons-in-law,
Lloyd Gaines and Duane Rolands.

Laura Elsie Land

Laura
Elsie Land, 94, of Northwood, died on Thursday, January 8, 2004, at the Lutheran
Retirement Home in Northwood.
Funeral services were held on Monday, January 12, at the First Lutheran
Church, Northwood, with Rev. Paul Holmer officiating. Burial was in the North
Shell Rock Cemetery, rural Northwood. The Conner Colonial Chapel, Northwood, was in
charge of the arrangements.
Laura Elsie Land, was born on April 26, 1909 in Seneca, South Dakota,
the daughter of Helmer and Maria (Olson) Myli. She was baptized and confirmed in
the Lutheran faith. She attended and received her education in the rural
Chickasaw County and Hanlontown Schools. She married Clayton Land on July 23,
1927 in New Hampton and to this union seven children were born. After their marriage Laura and Clayton farmed for many
years in the Glenville and Hartland Township areas.
They moved to Northwood in 1975. Laura was an avid gardener and
she loved her flowers and was very enthusiastic over the ribbons she won at the
Worth County Fair. She also made quilts all her life, and was the only lady that
patched a patchwork quilt. Laura loved her family and
their lives were most important to her. She was a member of the First Lutheran
Church in Northwood.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Lila Funk of
Charles City, Lily Anderson and her husband, John of Albert Lea, Luan Sallee of
Albert Lea, Andrew Land of Dent, Minnesota, Harry Land and his wife, Mary of Swisher,
Carolyn Kalvig and her husband, Carl of Northwood and Frances Christiansen and
her husband, Roger of Lake Mills; 24 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; eight
great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Anna Sanden of Albert Lea; as well
as several nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends. Laura also
raised two grandchildren, Russell Sanden of Gordonsville and Loretta Starkey of
Jacksonville, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clayton;
granddaughter, Cathy Funk; great-granddaughter, Sherry Starky;
daughter-in-law, Joanne Land; three brothers, Phillip, Maurice and Robert Myli;
four sons-in-law, Donald Sallee, Fred Funk, Milford Leidal and Gilman Sanden.

Marilyn
Joyce Arhart, 68, of Northwood, died on Thursday, January 8, 2004, at the Muse-Norris
Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
Funeral services were held on Monday, January 12, at the Bethel
United Methodist Church in Manly, with Rev. Robert Cumings officiating. Burial
was in the Memorial Park. The Conner Colonial Chapel, Northwood, was in charge of
the arrangements.
Marilyn Joyce Arhart, was born on September 8, 1935 in
Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Dale and Stella A. (Culver) Fry. She attended
and graduated from the Fayette, Iowa, High School. She married Donald D. Arhart on
August 23, 1953, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He preceded her in death on
July 28, 1991. After their marriage they moved to Nora Springs and then to Mason
City before moving to Northwood in 1975.
After moving to Northwood, Marilyn and
Don owned and operated the Midway Café. Marilyn also worked for the Corner Post
Restaurant in Northwood. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and was especially known
for her pies and cinnamon rolls and sewing, but her great love and enjoyment
was her family and the customers she served at the café. She was a member of
Bethel United Methodist Church in Manly, was a Sunday School Teacher at the
church for 30 years, and was also very active in other civic and church
activities in Northwood and Manly.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Larry Arhart and
his wife, Sandra of Mason City, Stella Marie Odom and her husband, Mike of Manly,
Dale Arhart and his wife, Karen of Northwood and Christine Dobbins and her
husband, Jimmy of Minneapolis; 10 grandchildren, Christopher and Justin Arhart,
Ole, Mike E., Jeremy, and Jacob Odom, Jeff Anderson, Shawn and Shamra Williams
and Kiara Dobbins; two great-grandchildren, Nadia Bahnsen and Dakota Kurtis
Anderson; a brother, John Fry and his wife, Betty of Piedmont, South Carolina; as well as
other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald; and
a brother, Kenneth Fry.

Victor Donald Holt

Victor Donald Holt, 81, of Cottage Grove, Oregon, died
on Thursday, January 8, 2004,
from age-related causes.
No service was planned. A private inurnment was held at
the
Shields Cemetery in Cottage Grove.
Holt was born on January 29, 1922 in Lake Mills, Iowa, to John and
Jeanette Holt. He graduated from the Northwood High School in 1940. He married Mavis Zingg in Leland, Iowa
on January 22, 1950 and served in the U.S. Marine Corps during
World War II. Holt was a planer foreman and retired from Weyerhaeuser in 1984.
He loved walking and cutting firewood. He was a member of the Elks and Moose
Clubs in Cottage Grove as well as a member of the VFW.
Survivors include his wife; daughter, Jean Cordova of Cottage
Grove; sons, Jim Holt of Eugene, Oregon and Laird Holt of Lebanon, Oregon; brother,
Sidney Holt of Iowa; and four grandchildren.

Lucille Schutz, 90, of Northwood, died on Sunday, January 11, 2004, at the Lutheran
Retirement Home in Northwood.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Thursday, January
15, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, rural Glenville, with Rev. Mark Wendland
officiating. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m., on Thursday, at the Sunset Rest Cemetery
in Northwood. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service time at the church on
Thursday. The Conner Colonial Chapel, Northwood, is in charge of the arrangements.
Lorene Lucille Schutz, was born on November 13, 1913 near Webster
City, Iowa, the daughter of Phinis and Belva (Dingman) Noe. She attended and
graduated from the Northwood High School. She married Herbert Schutz on December 7,
1942 in Northwood. He preceded her in death on November 18, 1977.
After their
marriage together they farmed west of Gordonsville and west of Northwood, before
farming north east of Kensett until 1967 when they moved to Northwood. Lorene
also worked for Fallgatter’s Grocery Store in Northwood. She enjoyed playing the
piano and organ, gardening, flowers, dancing and helping her husband on the
farm. She was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church and the church circle in
rural Glenville.
Left to cherish her memory are two sisters, Ester Ferley and
her husband, Glenn of Philips, South Dakota and Louise Hove of National City, California;
and several
nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Herbert;
brother, Walter Noe; sister, Roberta Wilkaski; and two sisters who died in
infancy.

Gerald L. Warrington

Gerald L. Warrington, 81, died on Friday, January 16,
2004, in Charles City.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday,
January 21, at 11:00 a.m., at the New Life Community Church, Charles City, with
Rev. Michael McAbee officiating. Burial will be in the Sunnyside Memory
Gardens, rural Charles City.
Gerald was born on September 13, 1922 at Lyle, Minnesota, the son of Clifford "Lavern"
and Mabel (Basford) Warrington. Gerald moved to Kensett at the age of 5½
after his mother's death. He was then raised by his aunt, attending and
graduating from high school there. When returning to Iowa after serving
in the Navy during World War II, he married Irma Hoblit on May 24, 1944,
in rural Little Cedar, Iowa. Irma died on June 13, 1999.
He was an auto
parts manager for 42 years at the Standard Battery Electric from 1950-1992. He belonged to The American Legion and lived in Charles City for
58 years. On July 15, 2000, Gerald and Anna were married at the Little
Brown Church in Nashua.
Survivors include his wife, Anna; two sons, Jerry Lynn (Cheryl)
Warrington of Osage and Donald Edward (Rebecca) Warrington of Waverly; one
daughter, Susan Kaye (Lynn) Spurbeck of Forest City; five step-children,
Timothy (Debra) Warrington of Cincinnati, Ohio, Gerald Lee (Jennifer)
Warrington of Lawrenceburg, Indiana, Kendall R. (Sarah) Warrington of West
Harrison, Indiana, Len Warrington of Cincinnati, Ohio and Patricia (Perry) Vaught
of
Lawrenceburg, Indiana; one sister, Margaret Ebling of Mason City; three
sisters-in-law, Francis Hundt of Charles City, Ona Maxwell of Charles City
and
Ida (Jack) Schloemer of Nashua; six grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren;
14 great-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.
He was preceded
in death by his parents; his first wife; two sisters, Marilyn Erbe and
Jacquelyn in infancy; and three brothers, Cliff, Ken and Orville.

Irene C. Edwardson, 86, of the St. John’s Lutheran Home,
died on Sunday, January 18, 2004.
Funeral services
will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, January 21, at the Bayview/Freeborn Funeral
Home Chapel. The Rev. Jeff Lager-Hagemeister will officiate. Interment
will be in the Elk Creek Cemetery, rural Kensett.
Irene C. Edwardson, was born on June 17, 1917 in Worth County, Iowa, the
daughter of Amund and Julie (Hanson) Sanden. She was baptized and
confirmed at the Bristol Lutheran Church. She attended school at the Bristol
Township #5 and Kensett High School. She was a former member of the
Bristol Lutheran Church and a member of the Oakland Lutheran Church. On November
25, 1933, she married Anton (Tony) Edwardson at the Little Brown Church
in Nashua. Tony preceded her in death.
Irene enjoyed cats, embroidery,
waltz and polka music and going to rummage sales. She will be remembered
for her sense of humor and her easy laugh.
Survivors include her daughter, Elaine and her husband, Donald (Dick) Carlsen of Albert Lea; granddaughter, Wendy Nelson; grandson, Kim and his
wife, Tammie Carlsen; great-grandchildren, Jennifer Nelson, Jason Nelson,
Wendy Carlsen and her special friend, Jeff Runden, Anne and her husband,
Brian Egeness, Chris Baldwin and Dustin Baldwin;
great-great-grandchildren, Jake Nelson, Nicholas Runden, Laura Runden and
Hailey Egeness.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tony; her parents; her brothers,
Abel, Helmer, Clarence and Gilman Sanden; and her sister, Alpha Harang.

Ronald A. Knight

Ronald A. Knight, 82, of rural Dodge Center, a
former farmer and construction worker, died on Tuesday, January 27, 2004, at the
Fairview Nursing Home in Dodge Center, where he had lived one month.
A memorial service was held on Friday, January 30, at the
United Methodist Church in Dodge Center, with the Rev. Mary Kitchell
officiating.
Born on March 14, 1921 in Deep Water, Missouri, he grew up there and
attended high school in Clinton, Missouri. He worked for Donaldson Construction of
Dodge Center in pipeline construction and also farmed. He and his first wife,
Josephine, divorced. In 1953, he married Roberta Adams and they also divorced.
On December 18, 1980, he married Virginia “Ginger” Ziebell in Rochester.
He was a
member of the Dodge Center United Methodist Church, the American Legion and the
Dodge County Saddle Club.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Ronald
Ray (Judi) of Overland Park, Kansas and Robert Arlie of Thornton, Colorado;
daughter, Rhonda (Carl) Weis of Pine Island; eight grandchildren; two
great-grandchildren; three brothers, Earl of Belton, Missouri, Jack (Ruby) of
Peculiar, Missouri and Paul of Montrose, Missouri; and a sister, Bonnie Oliphant
of Wichita, Kansas.

Anita Anna Sophia Glaser

Anna Sophia Glaser, 84, of Northwood, died on Tuesday, January 27, 2004, at the Mercy Medical
Center-North Iowa.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 31, at the First Lutheran Church,
Northwood, with Rev. Paul Holmer officiating. Burial was in the Sunset Rest
Cemetery, Northwood. The Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, Northwood, was in charge of
the arrangements.
Pallbearers were Scott Perkins, Chris Perkins, Jonathan Perkins,
Michael Reyerson, Michael Zrostlik, Paul Balhorn and Matt Davies. Honorary
pallbearers were Julie Zrostlik, Omar Wingate, Jakob Bolton, Vanessa Balhorn,
Stacey Davies, Alicia Glaser, Penny Perkins, Jackie Perkins, Deanna Perkins,
Kendra Reyerson and Wendy Anderson.
Anita was born on August 17, 1919 at Star Prairie, Wisconsin, the
daughter of Albert and Lena Schwartz. She received her education in the New Ulm
Schools. On July 2, 1937, she married Roland Glaser in New Ulm, Minnesota. She was
baptized and confirmed in New Ulm and was a long-time member of the First Lutheran
Church, Northwood.
Anita was active in church quilting, the Lydia Circle and the First
Lutheran Church Women. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and Treasurer for
many years. She enjoyed playing cards, sewing, her family and grandchildren. She
had various employment in Mankato, Minnesota. In 1952, Roland and Anita moved to
Northwood after purchasing the Northwood Cleaners and operating the dry cleaners
until their retirement.
Survivors include one son, Jerome Glaser and his wife, Dian of
Bloomington, Minnesota; three daughters, Joan Perkins and her husband, Stan of New
Hampton, Mary Bolton of Springfield, Oregon and Anita "Sue" Reyerson and Erbin
Anderson of Northwood; one sister, Irma Schwantes of Fulda, Minnesota; one brother, Ray
Schwartz and his wife, Dorothy of Frost, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Gloria Steinke of
New Ulm, Minnesota and Muggs Harding and her husband, Charlie of Kosota, Minnesota; two
brothers-in-law, James Glaser and his wife, Carol of Bettendorf, Iowa and Orville Strom
of New Ulm, Minnesota; grandchildren, Scott, Christopher and Jonathan Perkins, Vanessa Balhorn, Stacey Davies, Alicia Glaser, Omar Wingate, Jakob Bolton, Michael
Reyerson and Julie Zrostlik; 21 great-grandchildren; and many, many friends.
Anita was preceded in death by her husband, Roland in 2000;
parents, Albert and Lena Schwartz; brothers, Helmut, Gilbert and John; and

Berneice Louise Branstad

Berneice
Louise Branstad, 85, of Northwood and Kensett, formerly of Mason City, died on
Wednesday, January 28, 2004, at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.
Funeral services were held on Friday, January 30, at the Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, with
Rev. Dennis Ganz officiating. Burial was in the Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery in
Mason City.
Berneice Louise Branstad, was born on July 10, 1918 in Grundy
Center, Iowa, the daughter of John and Margaret Ash. Berneice worked for the J.P.
Decker’s Meat Packing Plant in Mason City, and also worked for the Shift’s Nursing
Home in Mason City. Berneice owned and operated Beehives Antiques in Kensett.
She enjoyed gardening, antiquing and going to auctions.
Left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Iver Dean
Branstad and his wife. Edith of St. Ansgar and Harold Branstad of Wisconsin;
daughter, Virginia Servantez and her husband, Mike of Mason City; many, many
grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; many brothers
and sisters; son-in-law, Roger Bushbaum of Manly; as well as other relatives
and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Iver
Branstad; son, August “Barney” Branstad who died in February of 1992;
daughter, Charlotte Bushbaum who died on May 7, 2001; and a very special friend,
Arnold Thompson of 26 years who died on August 18, 2003.
