John A. Willing, 83, of Hanford, California,
died on Monday, January 2, 2006, in Hanford.
Memorial services were held at the Hanford Elks Lodge in
Hanford, on Wednesday, January 11, 2006. Interment services
were held in the Sunset Rest Cemetery in Northwood.
John was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on November 29, 1923.
He was raised and educated in Milwaukee and finished high
school in Northwood, with the class of 1941.
He served in the United
States Army Air Force during World War II, in the Pacific
Theatre. Following his discharge, he attended Iowa State
University in Ames, Iowa, and then attended the University
of Wisconsin, receiving a mechanical engineering degree.
On June 2, 1951, John
married Marilyn Gayle Sims in Des Moines, Iowa. The
Armstrong Tire Company transferred John to Hanford in 1969,
where he worked until retiring in 1986.
He was a member of the Hanford Elks Lodge #1259 and the
American Legion Post #3. John and Marilyn traveled to
Alaska, Panama Canal, Canada and much of the United States.
He enjoyed life.
Survivors include his wife
Marilyn of Hanford; two sons, Richard Willing and his wife,
Laura of Hanford and William J. Willing of Hanford. Also
three grandchildren, Teresa, Shannon and Spencer; two
great-grandchildren, Mora and Sara; and many friends.

Thea
L. Siebrecht, 91, formerly of Northwood and Thompson, Iowa, died on Thursday, January 5,
2006, at the Lake Mills Care Center, Lake Mills, Iowa.
Funeral services were held
on Monday, January 9, 2006, at 1:30 p.m., at the First Lutheran Church,
Northwood, with Rev. Wayne Hagen officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Rest
Cemetery, Northwood. Visitation was held on Sunday at the Schroeder & Sites Funeral
Home, Northwood, Iowa.
Thea Lila Rose Siebrecht, was born on April 23, 1914, in Norway
Township, Winnebago County, Iowa, the daughter of Christopher G. and Tina K. (Egland)
Lien. Thea was baptized in the Salem Lutheran Church, Lake Mills, Iowa and confirmed
in 1927 in the Silver Lake Lutheran Church, Worth County.
Thea was united in
marriage to Palmer C. Siebrecht on November 30, 1933. They lived and farmed with
Palmer’s parents until the death of Palmer’s father, Fernie, in 1958. Palmer and
Thea moved into Northwood where Thea worked for Esther Roberts. She also worked
for Ron and Sherrie Sietsema at the drive-in restaurant at the south end of
Northwood. Palmer and Thea purchased “Jumbo’s Cafe” at the north end of town in
1959. They renamed it the Hiway Cafe but it was affectionately known as “Ma’s” by
the “kids” that frequented the cafe. They sold the cafe in 1966. Thea was then
employed as a cook at the Lutheran Retirement Home, Northwood, for a number of
years until she retired.
After Palmer’s death in 1991, Thea lived with her
daughter, Pam in Northwood. Pam and Thea moved to Thompson in 1999. Thea became a
resident of the Lake Mills Care Center after her health began to fail.
Preceding Thea in death was her husband, Palmer; parents;
brother, Cyrus Lien; and two sisters, Gilma Belt and Carol Rugland.
Left to cherish her memory are four daughters, Darlene
(Earl) Pedersen of Albert Lea, Minnesota, LaDonna Frye of Topeka, Kansas, Pam
Williamson of Thompson and Francene (John) Lee of Forest City; two foster daughters, Joan
(Paul) Barber of Northwood and Betty Cichy of Bluffton, Minnesota; five grandchildren,
Brian (Maleah) Pedersen of Mapleton, Minnesota, Tim Pedersen of Albert Lea, Minnesota,
Kathleen Holford of Topeka, Kansas, Sandra Arrett (Rex Swalve) of Thompson, Iowa and
Kimberly (Jeff) Soost of Buffalo Center, Iowa; two step-grandchildren, Monica
(Scott) Lamoreux of Britt and Debbie (Jeff) Marsh of Richmond Hill, Georgia; 14
great-grandchildren; thee step-great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; plus nieces and nephews and other relatives.

Stanley
C. Loland, 79, of Toeterville, died on Saturday, January 7, 2006, at the Good
Samaritan Center, St. Ansgar, Iowa.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, January
10, 2006, at 11:00 a.m., at the St. Peter Lutheran Church, Toeterville, with Rev.
Lance Kittleson officiating. Burial was held in the Sunset Rest Cemetery,
Northwood, Iowa. Visitation was on Monday from 4-8:00 p.m., at the Schroeder & Sites
Funeral Home, St. Ansgar.
Stanley was born on March 12,
1926, to Soren and Christine (Ellingson) Loland in Worth County near Northwood,
Iowa. He attended rural schools in Worth County and the Northwood High School.
In April 1945 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was a member of the 24th Infantry
Division, where he served in Japan and was promoted to staff sergeant. He was
honorably discharged in December 1946.
Stanley married Lillian Seuser of
Gordonsville, Minnesota on April 16, 1948. They lived most of their married life
in Toeterville, Iowa. Stan owned and operated his own grain trucking business and
retired in 1989.
Stan and Lil enjoyed fishing,
hunting, camping and
traveling in their motorhome. He was known for his sense of humor and was
particular about the care and appearance of his vehicles, especially his truck.
He was a member of the Osage VFW and St. Peter Lutheran Church in Toeterville.
Stan is survived by his wife, Lillian of Toeterville; his
children, Christine Heiden of Aberdeen, South Dakota, Kathy Millard (Jeff) of
Garner and
Kim Mogk of Grafton; nine grandchildren, Joshua and Jessica Heiden, Kelsey,
Lisa, Joey and Mikah Millard, Samantha and Randy Mogk and Bowen Peterson; one
sister, Ruth Winkleman of Northwood; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Margaret Brunsvold and Dora Dahl; and brother, Jacob Loland.

Norma Jean Hannam, 79, of St. Ansgar, died on Saturday, January 7, 2006,
at her home.

Norma Jean Hannam, was born on March 11, 1926, in Lyle,
Minnesota to Hans and Anna (Olswold) Richardson. She graduated from the Lyle High
School.
On June 27, 1948, Norma married Duane Albert Hannam in Lyle, Minnesota.
She had
a great love for her family which was evident in her homemaking skills. Norma
was a member of the St. Peter
Lutheran Church, Toeterville for over 50 years, and was actively involved in
Circle. She was a charter member of the St. Peter Lutheran Quilter’s Guild and while
participating enjoyed the companionship of the group, providing warmth to those
in need and fellowship with other widows. Norma’s pride and joy was attending
her grandchildren’s athletic activities and she was an avid supporter of the St.
Ansgar Saints, UNI Panther’s and Seattle Seahawks.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Duane Hannam on April 5, 1989;
her parents, Hans and Anna Richardson; parents-in-law, Herbert and Lavina Hannam;
sisters, Opal Berg and Phyllis Wallace; brothers, Orwin
Richardson and Maurice Richardson; brothers-in-law, Webster Johnson and Eugene Hannam; and granddaughter, Leslie Ann Thrond.
Norma is survived by sons, David (Marlene) Hannam, Paul (Lowana)
Hannam and James (Ruth) Hannam; daughters, Kathleen (Dale) Thrond and Patricia
(Roger) Townsend; grandchildren, Heather Hannam, Christopher Hannam, Ryan Hannam,

Byron Lodwick, Jr., 80, died on Tuesday, January 10, 2006, at the
Iowa Methodist Medical Center. A memorial service was held on Saturday, January 14,
2006, at the Central Presbyterian Church.
Byron was born on May 30, 1925, in Fayette, Iowa, to Byron
and Alva (Gaarder) Lodwick. He graduated from the Shortridge High School in
Indianapolis and attended Indiana University for a year and then graduated from
the University of Michigan.
Byron served in England, France and Germany with the
U.S. Army during WW II and also took Officer’s Training at the Citadel.
In 1950,
he married Jean Thorpe of Algona. Byron was involved with a car dealership in
Tama, Iowa and banking in western Iowa. He also served as the General Manger of a
magazine subscription company for Look Magazine before retirement. Byron was an
avid Cubs, Iowa State and Michigan fan. Byron was a 52 year member of the Central
Presbyterian Church and served as an Elder. He also was a member of Delta
Upsilon Fraternity. Lodwick was first cousins with Kensett residents, Don Gaarder
and Audry Gaarder, Appel, Oregon, Wisconsin.
He is survived by his wife, Jean; two sons, Byron III of
Des Moines and Burton (Kelli) Lodwick of Grimes; and three grandchildren,
Aurora, Dillion and Isaac.
Byron was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother,
James of Denison.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Central

“Jay” Ne1son Methus, 87, of Northwood, died on Friday, January 13, 2006, at the
Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., on
Tuesday, January 17, 2006, at the First Lutheran Church,
Northwood, with Reverend Barbara Wills officiating. Burial was in the Sunset
Rest Cemetery in Northwood. Visitation was held from 6-8:00 p.m., with a Masonic
service at 7:00 p.m., by the Northern Light Masonic Lodge #266 of Northwood on
Monday at the Conner Colonial Chapel, Northwood.
Visitation was also held one hour prior to service time on Tuesday at the
church.
Junior “Jay” Nelson Methus was born on June 14, 1918, in
Kidder, South Dakota, the son of Ole and Elsie (Purdy) Methus. He was baptized
on December 15, 1918, in Kidder, South Dakota, and reaffirmed the faith of his
baptism through confirmation on May 23, 1932, at the Grace Lutheran Church in
Hanlontown. He attended and received his education in Hanlontown, graduating
from the Hanlontown High School in 1936.
He was united in marriage to Ernestine
Marie Shields on December 27, 1939, in Hanlontown, Iowa, and to this union two
daughters were born, Janice and Marcia.
Jay began his farming operation on March
1, 1940, two miles south of Joice and continued to farm when he moved east of
Northwood on March 1, 1942. He also farmed west of Northwood until his
retirement from farming on October 19, 1950. In 1950, Jay owed and operated the
International Implement Company in Hanlontown until 1955 when he moved to
Northwood continuing in the implement business until 1962. In 1962, Jay began
his career in Real Estate and Farm Management in Northwood until his retirement
in 2004.
He was united in marriage to Genevieve (Butler) Johnson on September 5,
1993, at the First Lutheran Church in Northwood. He loved farming, and enjoyed
golfing, fishing “up north,” dancing, traveling and spending winters in Arizona.
He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Northwood, Northwood Country Club,
Northern Light Masonic Lodge #266 in Northwood, and was a 32nd degree Mason in
Cedar Rapids.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Genevieve Methus of
Northwood; a daughter, Marcia Young and her husband, Bill of LeMars, Iowa; five
grandchildren, Steven Young and his wife, Kane of Algona, Iowa, Stephanie Early
and her husband, Matthew of Sioux City, Iowa, Scott Young and his wife, Jessica of
Swisher, Iowa, Monica Bolin of Crete, Nebraska and Derek Bolin of Los Angeles,
California; four great-grandchildren, Ethi and Ashlin Yoig and Aidan and Isaac
Early; a brother, Gordon Methus of Rogers, Arkansas; as well as other relatives
and many friends.
Jay was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ernestine
Methus on August 24, 1991; and a daughter, Janice Tatum on
January 15, 2000.

“Fay” Hennigar, 69, of Northwood, died on Friday, January
13, 2006, at the Mercy Medical Center North Iowa, Mason City, Iowa.
Memorial
services will be held on Wednesday, January 18, 2006, at 11:00 a.m., at the First Lutheran
Church, Northwood, with Rev. Wayne Hagen officiating. Visitation will be
held one hour before the service on Wednesday. Inurnment will take place at a
later time at the Sunset Memorial Gardens, Lawton, Oklahoma. Family suggest
memorials to the American Cancer Society.
Fay was born on October 2, 1936, in Indiahoma, Oklahoma, the
daughter of James D. and Delsie (Franks) Morrison. She graduated from the Indiahoma
High School.
Fay married Stanley Hennigar on April 5, 1956, in Oklahoma. They lived
in Colorado and then moved to Manly, Iowa and lived there until she moved to her
present home in Northwood in 2001. She worked for Winnebago Industries for about
twenty-five years until she retired in 2000. Fay was well known for her famous
Saturday Night Tacos. She enjoyed bowling, reading, being with her friends and
family and especially traveling to be with them. She was also an avid gardener.
She is survived by her five children, Dennis Hennigar and
his wife, Jene of The Colony, Texas, Doreen Jacks and her husband, Mike of Greeley,
Colorado, Gary Dean Henmgar and his wife, Kim of Northwood, Sherry Olson and
her husband, Kory of Northwood and Sheila Ketler and her husband, Richard of
Dallas, Texas; thirteen grandchildren, Kris Jacks, Kortme Jacks, Bryan Koster,
Jayson Olson, Shayne Olson, Pierce Tuttle, Paige Tuttle, Bryson Hennigar, Tyler
Julson, Hannah Henmgar, Hunter Henmgar, Derek Henmgar and David Hennigar; two
sisters, Wynola Taylor of Lawton, Oklahoma and Delores Dye and her husband, David
of
Lakewood, California; and two brothers, J.D. Morrison and his wife, Ingrid of
Bethany, Oklahoma and Keith Morrison and his wife, Helen of Edmond, Oklahoma.
She was preceded in death by

Karen
Kruse, 98, formerly of Northwood, died on Tuesday, January 17, 2006, in the home of
her granddaughter with family at her side in Escondido, California.
Visitation was held
on Sunday, January 22, 2006, from 2 until 4 p.m. at the Schroeder and Site
Funeral Home in Northwood. The funeral was held at the funeral home on Monday,
January 23, 2006, with Rev. Wayne Hagen officiating. Burial was in the Sunset
Rest Cemetery, Northwood.
Karen was born on March 18, 1907, in Copenhagen, Denmark,
the daughter of Marie and Paul Pederson. Karen traveled to the United States in
1913 with her parents and siblings and settled in Northwood. She attended school
in Northwood and was confirmed at the First Lutheran Church.
She was united in
marriage to Vernon A. Kruse on March 27, 1926, in Northwood. They lived and
farmed east of Northwood until Vern died in 1958. Karen continued to live on the
farm with her son, Kenneth until he died in 1995. She then moved to Northwood and
resided with her daughter, Charlette (Susie) and husband, Bob until Susie died in
2004. Since that time, she has divided her time between her granddaughters, Karen
(Paul) Hendrickson of Escondido, California and Laura (Mike) Richter of Cedar Falls,
Iowa.
Karen was an avid seamstress, cook and gardener and helped on the farm.
After moving, she continued sewing, reading and writing letters as long as her
health allowed, but her greatest enjoyment came from her family and
grandchildren. Her greatest strength was her memory. She was a great historian
and family resource. Her family loved to hear her recall memories that ranged
from crossing the ocean at the age of six to fishing trips up north to
harvesting corn by hand.
Left to cherish her memory are granddaughters, Karen and
husband, Paul Hendrikson of Escondido, California and Laura and husband, Mike Richter of
Cedar Falls, Iowa; great-granddaughter, Michelle and husband, Juan Torres of Poway,
California; great-great-grandsons, Paul and Zackary Torres; great-grandson, Michael Hendrikson and wife, Jennifer of Ramona, California; great-great-grandson, Dylan;
great-granddaughter, Beth Richter of Leadville, Colorado; step-grandsons, Jason Richter
and his
wife, Sheila and their children, Alexis and Collin of Cedar Falls, Iowa and Chad Richter
an his
wife, Melanie and their children, Grace and Gavin of Cedar Falls, Iowa; step-granddaughter,

Donna
Jean Robbins, 63, of Kensett, died on Wednesday, January 18, 2006, at the Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m., on
Saturday, January 21, 2006, at the Bethany Lutheran Church, Kensett, with
Reverend Tom Martin officiating. Burial was in the Kensett Cemetery. Visitation
will be one hour prior to service time on Saturday at the church. The Conner
Colonial Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements.
Donna Jean Robbins was born on August 17, 1942, in Renwick,
Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Grace (Voss) Helmich. Donna was baptized in the
Lutheran faith and reaffirmed the faith of her baptism through confirmation in
the Bethany Lutheran Church in Kensett. She attended and received her education
in the Northwood-Kensett community schools, graduating from the Northwood Kensett
High School in 1961. Donna also graduated with a degree in accounting from the
Hamilton Business College in Mason City in 1962.
She was united in marriage to Kester Robbins Sr. in 1963. Donna worked as a clerical typist for Farm Service
Company in Kensett and also worked along side her husband, Kester Robbins, Sr. at
the Sheraton Hotel in Mason City. She enjoyed latch hooking, doing stain glass
sun catchers, ceramics, country music, and gardening. She was a member of the
Bethany Lutheran Church in Kensett and the prayer circle at the church.
Survivors include three sons, Mark, Mike and Donnie; one
daughter, Kimberly; two step-children, Kester Robbins, Jr. of Mason City and
Mary Ann Kitner of Mason City; a grandson, Daniel Palmer; special friend, Kester
Robbins, Sr. of Northwood; a sister, Shirley Carroll of Mason City; a niece,
Susan Carroll of Mason City; and a nephew, Rodney Anderson of Mason City; as
well as other relatives and friends.
Her parents preceded her in death.

Margaret Matilda Jurgens Rupert, age 88, of Northwood,
died on Sunday, January 29, 2006, at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood.
Funeral services for Margaret will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Thursday, February
2, at the Northwood
United Methodist Church, Northwood, with Rev. Wendi Gillan officiating. Internment will take place
in the Sunset Rest Cemetery,
Northwood. Visitation will begin after 12 noon Thursday at the church.
Margaret Matilda Jurgens, the third of six sisters, was
born on January 25, 1918, in Franklin County, Iowa to Caroline Louise Plagge and
Jerry Cornelius Jurgens. Margaret was baptized on May 31, 1918, as Margareta Mathilde Jurgens,
named after her dad’s oldest sister, Margareta, and her mother’s oldest sister,
Mathilda. She grew up on a farm near Latimer, Iowa.
Throughout her growing up
years she had many farm chores to complete each day, but enjoyed ice skating in
the winter on Sunday afternoons and delighted in homemade ice cream and corn on
the cob. At 12 years old she caught her first fish at Beads Lake. Her favorite
holiday was Christmas, where fond memories were gathered at the German Reformed
Church near Sheffield, Iowa, where she sang German Christmas Carols on Christmas
Eve.
Margaret attended high school in Latimer, and participated in high
school plays. She attended Central College in Pella, Iowa, and taught grades one
through eight in the country schools in Franklin County for four years. During
the next seven years she taught in the public schools of Zearing, Huxley and
Dayton, Iowa, before joining the teaching staff at Northwood as a 6th
grade/junior high teacher in the late 1940’s. She also taught at Hanlontown.
Margaret married Howard Alexander Rupert on August 23, 1950, in an Oklahoma
City, Oklahoma, Methodist Church. They enjoyed summer fishing trips together in
northern Minnesota until the time of Howard’s death, November 1974. Margaret was
a preschool special education aide in Mason City for eight years. After retiring
she traveled to Jerusalem in 1984 and in 1994 participated in a mission trip to
Costa Rica.
In 1995, she had heart bypass surgery and over four years later
suffered from a stroke. During her many years in Northwood, she volunteered as a
Sunday School Teacher, Girl/Boy Scout Leader, church circle member, and held
various offices of the Methodist Women.
Margaret (Marge) will be remembered for
her pleasant attitude in the face of adversity and her sweet laugh. The last
year of her life was spent at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood, where
she highly enjoyed participating in activities and interacting with staff. Margaret was a
devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed.
Margaret is survived by twin sons, Fred and Jerry Rupert of
Des Moines; a daughter, Janelle Johnson (Dennis) of Northwood; a step-daughter,
Nancy Lucarini (Phillip) of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas; grandchildren, Jay Johnson
of Chicago, Jack Johnson of Story City, Ben Johnson and Brock Johnson of
Northwood; brother-in-law, Milt Mussehl of Story City; sister-in-law, Anabel Hess
of Fort Smith, Arkansas; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant
brother; sister-in-law, Jane Hendrix; five sisters, Wiltha Koenen, Leona
Mollenbeck, Ruth Aalbers, Evelyn Hovey and Dorothy Mussehl; and four brothers-in-law,
Bert Koenen, Ted Mollenbeck, Max Aalbers and Munson Hovey.

Glen A. Sell, USN retired, died at the age of 83, on Monday, January 30, 2006, at
the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, following a heart attack
in December 2005.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, February 18,
2006, at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, Mason City, with the Rev. Verlyn Snell officiating. A gathering of friends and family will be held one
hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be held at a later date. In lieu of

Glen Snell was born on October 6, 1922, in Colfax, Iowa, to LuVern
and Anna (Rasmussen) Snell.
He married Mary E. Howell of Vinita, Oklahoma on May 24,
1942, in National City, California.
He left Iowa as a Kensett High School graduate when
he joined the U.S. Navy as an enlisted man in 1941. Glen honorably served our
country for 30 years in the U.S. Naval Submarine Service beginning with War
Patrols in the Pacific during World War II. Highlights of his naval career
include, and are not limited to, earning a commission as an officer; Officer in
Charge of the building and commissioning of the Submarine Tender, USS Hunley,
AS31; founding staff member of Submarine Squadron Fifteen, Guam and Commanding
Officer of U.S. Naval Prison, Portsmouth, Maine.
Following retirement from the Navy
as a full Commander, he completed Post Graduate studies at the University of
Oklahoma and later became a Realtor in the state of Washington. He was also a
Private/Commercial Pilot and enjoyed woodworking and photography. He returned to
Kensett, in February of 1999 and later moved into assisted living at The
Homestead in Mason City.
Glen is survived by his children, Dean (Donna) of Okanogan,
Washington, Dennis (Maryann) of Hammonton, New Jersey and Sena (Brian) of Kaneohe, Hawaii; nine
grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; sister, Bonnie Bergman of Mason City; and brother, Verlyn (Sammy) Snell of Overland Park, Kansas.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary E. (Howell)
Snell; his parents; two brothers, Morris and Dean Snell; and his sister, Marian
(Snell) Palmerton.
