Zudavee Holland

October 26, 2011

Zudavee "Zudie" Holland, 78, of Forest City, died on Wednesday, October 12, 2011, at the Mercy Medical Center - North Iowa in Mason City, from injuries received in a car accident near Titonka.

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m., on Monday, October 17, at the First Baptist Church in Forest City, with Revs. Doug Snyder and Eric Weaver officiating. Burial was in the Madison Township Cemetery. Visitation was held from 4-7:00 p.m., on Sunday, at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home in Forest City and one hour prior to the services at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be directed to the family.

Zudavee Holland, the daughter of Marlor and Lucy (Caudell-Brock) Smith, was born on November 15, 1932 in Homer, Georgia. At an early age Zudie moved with her family to Crystal Lake and later to Thompson, where she graduated from high school in 1951. In 1952, she was married to Bobbie D. Holland and later divorced. Zudie drove motor homes for Winnebago for 12 years and later became employed by the Forest City Community Schools driving school bus for 27 years. Her love of life was spending time with her family, cooking, gardening, playing cards and especially, bingo.

Zudie is survived by her children, Pam Julius of Galt, Phyllis Holland of Forest City and Anthony Holland of Woden; eight grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Colleen Devin of Oklahoma and Madilene Jensen of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Vance; a grandson; and five brothers.

The Petersen Lund Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.



Robert F. Haugen

October 26, 2011

Robert F. Haugen, 86, of Clear Lake, died on Thursday, October 20, 2011, at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Monday, October 31, at the Grace Lutheran Church, Hanlontown, with Pastor Linda Johnson Prestholt officiating. Burial will be in the Brush Point Cemetery, Hanlontown. Visitation will be on Sunday, October 30, from 3-6:00 p.m., at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake and then one hour before the services on Monday at the church. Family suggests memorials to the Grace Lutheran Church or Hospice of North Iowa.

Bob was born on September 29, 1925, the son of Frank and Sylvia (Staaleson) Haugen on a farm near Miller. He attended country school and farmed with his dad. Bob married Mabel Knudtson on March 15, 1946, in Forest City and to this union three sons were born, David, Dennis and Darrell. Bob farmed near Garner for a few years and moved to Hanlontown in 1951, where he continued farming along with a TV repair business, raising laying hens and broilers, and milking cows. In 1960, he formed Bob's Sodding which covered many areas of landscaping including laying sod on Interstates 35 and 80 from Omaha to Des Moines and Des Moines to the Minnesota border. In 1970, Bob and Mabel started the Petal Shoppe in Hanlontown, with an expansion to Clear Lake in 1980. They spent 18 years serving the area with beautiful flowers for every occasion. Christmas time was their favorite and Bob enjoyed the Christmas tree part of the business, especially flocking and delivering.

On November 10, 1990, Bob was united in marriage to Ardis Buckley. Bob enjoyed helping his wife, Ardie with her catering business and coordinating the mystery motor home trips. He and Ardie enjoyed spending the last twenty years wintering in Arizona and traveling and spending time with family and friends. Bob enjoyed many hobbies, including square dancing, camping, hunting, fishing, playing bridge, softball and bowling with his family and friends in the early years, and later on golfing, traveling, playing 500 with winning the bid as the only option and a little casino donating from time to time. He loved to watch his Cubbies!

Bob is survived by his wife, Ardis Haugen of Clear Lake; three sons, David (Marilyn) of Hanlontown, Dennis (Janet) of Forest City and Darrell (Lorinda) of Mesa, Arizona; three stepchildren, Terry Buckley of Waverly, Nebraska, Jeff Buckley of Glenwood Springs, Colorado and Rhonda (Brian) Dirksen of Mason City; 13 grandchildren, Corey (Carla) Haugen, Mandi (Cory) Lockwood, Megan (John) Atkinson, Nathan (Carly) Haugen, Justin (Kim) Haugen, Michelle Swenson and Dave, Michael (Amanda) Haugen, Ashlee (Mark) Lewis, Bridget (Josh) McCloskey; 5 step-grandchildren, Amber Buckley, Alicia Bates, Dillon Buckley, Paige and Tess Hanson; 10 great grandchildren; one brother, Ronald (Linda) Haugen; and several nieces and nephews.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Mabel who died on September 15, 1989; granddaughter, Melissa Haugen who died on March 27, 1975; and son-in-law, Mark Hanson who died on January 30, 2003.

The Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of the arrangements.
