Robert "Bob" Keel

Robert
"Bob" Keel, age 90, of Forest City, died on Saturday, April
9, 2011, at the Mercy Medical Center North Iowa in Mason
City.
Funeral services will be
held at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, April 14, at the United
Methodist Church in Forest City, with Pastor Jerald Swanberg
officiating. Burial will be in the Madison Township Cemetery
in rural Forest City, with Graveside Military Rites by the
Forest City American Legion Post 121. Visitation will be
held from 5-7:00 p.m., on Wednesday, April 13, at the
Petersen Lund Funeral Home in Forest City and will continue
an hour prior to the services at the church.
Robert Dale Keel, was born
on July 19, 1920, at home on his parents' farm west of
Forest City, the son of Clarence and Winnifred (Nonnweiler)
Keel. He was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist faith.
Bob was raised on the farm that was homesteaded by his
great-grandparents. He attended country school through the
8th grade and graduated from the Forest City High School in
1937. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II
and was married to Evelyn Youngquist on March 8, 1945, at
the Gustavus Adolphus Lutheran Church in St. Paul,
Minnesota. Together, they raised their family and farmed the
five generation farm. Farming was Bob's life and he did it
well. He was known to be a very hard worker, but he always
took time to enjoy the friendship of his neighbors and time
with his family.
Bob was a life-long member
of the United Methodist Church in Forest City, held a life
membership in the American legion and the VFW, was a charter
member of the Forest City FFA, and he gave 40 years of
service to ASCS. Deer hunting was his favorite hobby where
he could spend time in his favorite place, God's nature.
Those who knew him loved his great sense of humor. In his
later years he touched several lives with his many visits to
friends who were ill, home-bound, or living in care
facilities.
Bob will always be
remembered and loved by his three children, Tom (Bev) Keel
of Reedsburg, Wisconsin, Linda (Jim) Westensee of Lakefield,
Minnesota and Bill (Sarah) Keel of Forest City; his
grandchildren; April Jones, Jennifer (Mike) Cole, Nicky
(Mark) Nel, Matt Keel, Kelli Keel and Tanner Keel; his
great-grandchildren, Brandon, Ally and Shane; his sister,
Eva Olson; his aunt, Dorothy Christensen; and two nieces and
three nephews.
Bob was preceded in death
by his wife, Evie; and his parents.

Mark A. Gauger
April 20, 2011
Mark A. Gauger, 55, of Forest City, died on Sunday, April
10, 2011, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason
City.
Funeral
services were held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, April 15, at
the St. James Catholic Church in Forest City, with the Rev.
Dennis Miller officiating. Burial was in the church
cemetery. Visitation was held from 4-7:00 p.m., on Thursday,
at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home in Forest City, with a
Scriptural Wake Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation continued
one hour prior to the services at the church.
Mark Allen Gauger, the
middle child of Harlan and Irene (Goddard) Gauger, was born
on September 2, 1955 in Osage. He attended school in Fort
Dodge and graduated from the Osage High School in 1974.
After graduation he worked at Winnebago Industries in the
metal stamp area until January of 2010, when his eye sight
started to worsen. Mark met his future bride-to-be, Kathy
Street while talking on the C.B. They spent many happy hours
chasing each other around Osage trying to find each other
from the frequency of the C.B. On October 9, 1977, they
became engaged and on July 28, 1978, were married at the
Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage. They lived in Forest
City where they raised their daughter, Amy Lynn.
Mark enjoyed camping and
sitting on the deck watching his squirrels, birds and
traffic. He also enjoyed his many cell phone calls to his
siblings and coffee time at Hardee's with "the boys". He
loved taking his grandkids around his lawn in a wagon pulled
by his garden tractor. The light of his life were his two
grandsons, Dominic and Landon Murphy. Mark spoiled them all
the time and they loved the attention.
Mark is survived by his
wife of 33 years, Kathy of Forest City; daughter, Amy Lowe
and husband, Frank of Austin, Minnesota and her two sons,
Dominic and Landon and his three children, Asher, Vash and
Aria; his mother, Irene Gauger of St. Ansgar; two brothers,
Harlan, Jr. "Gene" Gauger and wife, Lee of Jamestown, North
Carolina and Gary Gauger and wife, Teresa of Omaha,
Nebraska; two sisters, Nancy Chitwood of St. Ansgar and
Kathy Squier and husband, Jim of St. Ansgar; and many
nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death
by his father, Harlan, Sr.

Vernon C.
Riekena
April 20, 2011
Vernon C. Riekena, age 78, passed away peacefully on
Monday, April 11, 2011, at the Wheaton Franciscan-All
Saints Hospital, Racine, Wisconsin, with his family at
his side.
Funeral services were
held on Friday, April 15, at 5:00 p.m., at the Atonement
Lutheran Church, Racine, Wisconsin, with Rev. Dr. Warren
Williams officiating. Private interment, with full
military honors was held in the West Lawn Memorial Park.
Vernon was born on
November 14, 1932 in Crystal Lake, son of the late Henry
and Amanda (Helm) Riekena. On March 23, 1963, at the
Freidens Lutheran Church in Kenosha, he was united in
marriage to Carol L. Kaddatz. Vernon served in the
United States Air Force during the end of the Korean
War, from March of 1952 to December of 1955. Vernon
earned an Associates Degree in Applied Science and
Electronic Technology from DeVry Technical Institute in
Chicago, Illinois. He worked at Oster Manufacturing as
an Engineering Technician for eight years and then as a
Test Technician at J.I. Case Company for twenty-seven
plus years. After retiring from J.I. Case Company, he
worked five years for VRI Technical Services (at J.I.
Case Company) retiring in November of 1997.
He attended the
Atonement Lutheran Church. Vernon enjoyed playing golf.
He enjoyed his grandchildren and especially enjoyed
attending their sporting events of hockey, soccer,
basketball, and baseball.
Survivors include his
loving wife of forty-eight years, Carol; his children
and their spouses, Dwayne (Beth) Riekena of Racine,
Darrell (Kimberly) Riekena of Minneapolis, Minnesota,
Deborah (Dan) Andersen of Racine, and Dana (Sean) Traci
of Wilmette, Illinois; his eight grandchildren, Justin,
Amanda (fiancé, Dylan Sucharda) and Matthew Riekena,
Jack Riekena, Nicholas and Alyssa Andersen, Colm and
Bridget Traci; his one great-granddaughter, Alexis
Riekena; one brother and five sisters, Kenneth (Carol
Macken) Riekena of Sun City, Arizona, Vivian Pletcher of
Britt, Arlene (George) Schmidt of Garner, Lorraine
(Shelly) Bohn of Mason City, Janice (Jim) Marshall of
Austin, Minnesota and Marilyn (Tom) Haley of Ham Lake,
Minnesota; and many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law,
nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
In addition to his
parents he was preceded in death by a brother, LeRoy; a
sister, Donna; his grandparents; his mother-in-law and
father-in-law; two brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law.

Jacqueline L. Koehn

Jacqueline Lynn Koehn, 51, of Postville, formerly of
Thompson, died at her home on Wednesday, April 13, 2011.
Memorial services were
held at 3:30 p.m., on Tuesday, April 19, at the Marion
Lutheran Church, Gunder, with the Rev. Marshall Hahn
officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Visitation
was on Tuesday, April 19, at the church.
Jacqueline was born on May
30, 1959 in West Union, to William "Bill" and Sharon (Leete)
Koehn. She attended school in Elkader and Sullivan High in
Chicago, Illinois. Jacqueline was blessed with two children,
Jeremy and Cassie. She worked as a Nanny when she first
moved to Chicago. While being a nanny, she met Rick Walsh.
She considered Rick and his family her second family. She
stayed in the Chicago area for more than 10 years. In 1995,
she moved to Thompson. She worked at Winnebago Industries in
Forest City and at Fleet Guard in Lake Mills while raising
Jeremy and Cassie. She had recently moved to Postville.
Jacqueline did everything with a smile. She made friends
easily and had many of them. She had a great ability to
cheer people up. She will be missed by her family and many
friends.

her son, Jeremy Daniel Koehn stationed in Schweinfurt,
Germany, who is a Decon Operations Specialist with the U.S.
Army; her daughter, Cassie Rose Koehn of Elgin; her parents,
Bill and Sharon Koehn of Elkader; brothers, Jeff (Joan)
Koehn of Elkader and Kelly (Glenda) Koehn of Elgin; sister,
Vickie Koehn of St. Paul, Minnesota; special friend, Rick
Walsh of Chicago, Illinois; and many nieces, nephews, aunts,
uncles, cousins and friends.
Jacqueline was preceded in
death by her grandparents, William and Rose Koehn and Don
and Lucy Leete.

Danny L. Vrieze
May 11, 2011
Danny Lynn Vrieze, of Phoenix, Arizona and formerly of
Buffalo Center, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 17,
2011, at the Hospice of the Valley, Phoenix, Arizona.
A memorial service will be
held at 5:30 p.m., on Tuesday, May 17, at the First Lutheran
Church, Albert Lea, Minnesota. There will be a greeting of
family from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.
He was born on September
4, 1957 in Buffalo Center, to Leonard and Kathy (Mattoon)
Vrieze. He attended school in Lake Mills where he
participated in football and wrestling. He enjoyed outdoor
activities and being with family and friend. In his younger
days he enjoyed having nice cars and motorcycles. His
hobbies were 4-wheeling with his jeep, stock car racing,
competing in tug of war and arm wrestling with Dick Hansen.
He is survived by his
wife, Barb and her daughter of Phoenix, Arizona; his mother,
Kathy (Verle) Everett of Britt; daughter, Fallon; grandson,
Layton of Albert Lea, Minnesota; sisters, Debbie (Mike) of
Osage and Peggy (Craig) of Albert Lea, Minnesota; brother,
Randy (Sherry) Vrieze of Thompson; grandmother, Sarah
Mattoon of Britt; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews
and relatives in the Netherlands.
He was preceded in death
by his father, Leonard Vrieze; grandparents, Harm and Jennie
Vrieze; grandfather, Lester Mattoon; uncle, Larry Vrieze and
brother-in-law, Jerry Nickson.
He will be greatly missed

Donald L. Chodur
April 27, 2011
Donald L. Chodur, age 90, of Kensett, died on Tuesday, April
19, 2011, at his home in rural Kensett.
Funeral services were held
at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, April 22, at the First Baptist
Church in Forest City, with the Rev. Doug Snyder
officiating. Burial was in the Kensett Cemetery in Kensett.
Visitation was on Thursday, April 21, at the Petersen Lund
Funeral Home in Forest City and continued an hour prior to
the services at the church.
Donald LeRoy Chodur, was
born on a farm north of Crystal Lake, on January 5, 1921,
the son of Andrew and Alice (Hansen) Chodur. He was baptized
and confirmed at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City
and attended the Crystal Lake School. On February 12, 1947,
he was united in marriage to Gloria Genevieve Borg at the
Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City. The couple farmed
near Leland, Thompson and Miller. In 1967, the family moved
to their present home near Kensett.
Donald enjoyed many
fishing trips to Canada with his wife, family and friends.
When his sons were active in 4-H he served as a 4-H Leader.
For many years, Don and Gloria were part of a neighborhood
card club and enjoyed wintering in Phoenix, Arizona. Don
enjoyed searching for antiques, was an avid collector and
loved to "fix things up". He could always be counted on to
help out his neighbors whenever they needed his assistance.
Don is survived by his
seven children, Marjorie (H.B.) Ross of Garner, Richard
(Rhonda) Chodur of Kensett, Larry (Ellen) Chodur of Rudd,
Karen (Lewis) Thompson of Osseo, Wisconsin, Joan (Troy)
McCormick of Mason City, Michael Chodur of Charles City and
Tami (Christopher) Thilges of La Crosse, Wisconsin; 23
grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Odella
Broome of Des Moines, Mildred Bauer of Mason City, Gerri
Hart of Arizona City, Arizona, Delores Norcross of Mason
City and Irene King of Seattle, Washington; a brother,
Kenneth Chodur of Kensett; and a special friend, Lila Dahl
of Glenwood, Minnesota.
Don was preceded in death
by his parents; his wife, Gloria; two grandchildren, Ashley
and Kody Chodur; two sisters who died in infancy; three
adult sisters, Melinda Mayo, Eileen Ballay and Betty Kaduce;
and two brothers, James and Ralph Chodur.

Avenell
(Flower) DeCamp, 88, of Eldora, died on Friday, April 22,
2011, at the Eldora Nursing and Rehab Center in Eldora.
Funeral services will be
held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, April 29, at the First
Baptist Church in Eldora, with the Revs. Mark Chapman and
Jarrod Bartholomew officiating. Visitation will be at the
church on Friday beginning at 9:30 am until the service
time. Committal services will be at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, at
the Boone Memorial Gardens in Boone.
Avenell was born on March 9, 1923 in Eagle Grove, Iowa, the
daughter of Paul and Nellie (Summers) Flower. She was raised
in Eagle Grove where she graduated from high school and then
continued her education at AIB in Des Moines. On June 26,
1941, Avenell was united in marriage to Leonard K. DeCamp.
They moved often due to Leonard's 20 year career with the
U.S. Navy. Upon Leonard's retirement, she lived in Eagle
Grove for five years, Forest City for five years, then in
the Jordan and Boone area where she resided until moving to
Eldora in 2001. She was a member of the First Baptist Church
in Eldora.
She is survived by a son, Larry DeCamp of Marshalltown;
daughters, Barbara (Dennis) Bartholomew of Eldora and Dona
(Gary) McEnelly of Baxter, Minnesota; grandchildren, Rev.
Jarrod (Julie) Bartholomew, Cassie (Lem) Elechicon, Janel
(Chuck) Brekke, Amy Twedt and her fiancée, David Osborn,
Emily (Hans) Albrecht and Lisa DeCamp; sister-in-law, Helen
Flower; by 12 great-grandchildren; and by several loved
nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death
by her husband, Leonard on November 25, 1992; her parents;
brothers, Wm. Paul Flower and Marlen Flower; sister, Evilo
(Flower) Pardun; brother-in-law, Lloyd Pardun; and nephew,
David Flower.

Brenda Kay Hovey, age 69, of Rogers, Arkansas, died on
Easter morning, Sunday, April 24, 2011, at the Circle of
Life Hospice in Springdale, Arkansas.
Brenda was born on
April 1, 1942 in Forest City, to Roy and Mayme (Bakken)
Hovey. Brenda enjoyed her time spent at the Pathfinder,
Inc. sheltered workshop and participating in the social
events. She also enjoyed being with her friends and
attending social activities with Bost, Inc. Brenda loved
music and especially enjoyed her Branson, Missouri,
trips to the music shows.
She was preceded in
death by her parents and one sister, Rita Scheer.
She is survived by her
sister, Ilene Smith of Rogers, Arkansas; two nephews,
Troy Smith of Rogers, Arkansas and Justin Smith and
wife, Trish of Plymouth, Minnesota; one niece, Jolene
Smith of Washington, Missouri; great-niece, Kailey Smith
of Plymouth, Minnesota; aunt, Alma Hovey of Forest City;
and numerous relatives and friends.
A celebration of
Brenda Hovey's Life will be held at 11:00 a.m., on
Saturday, June 25, 2011, graveside at the Pilot Knob
Lutheran Cemetery near Forest City. Memorial donations
may be made in honor of Brenda Hovey to the Circle of
Life Hospice, Springdale, Arkansas or to a charity of
your choice.

Naomi Larson

Naomi Larson, 96, of Republic, Missouri and formerly of
Crystal Lake, passed away on Monday, April 25, 2011, at the
Sonshine Manor in Republic, Missouri.
Funeral services were held
at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, April 30, at the United
Methodist Church in Crystal Lake, with the Rev. Jerald
Swanberg officiating. Burial was in the Crystal Lake
Cemetery.
Naomi Larson, was born on
September 10, 1914, to Laurice and Cora (Ozmun) Larson at
their rural Upper Flat home in Hancock County. Naomi was
baptized and attended church and Sunday school at the Upper
Flat Evangelical Free Church in rural Hancock County. She
attended country school through the eighth grade and then
attended the Crystal Lake High School where she graduated in
the spring of 1932. Naomi was united in marriage to Richard
E. Larson on February 16, 1936, at the Upper Flat Home of
the Bride. They started their life farming on a farm west of
Crystal Lake and in 1941 moved to another farm north of
Crystal Lake, which they purchased in 1943. They lived here
until 1984. They then moved into their new home in Crystal
Lake where they resided until Richards's death in 1998.
The couple enjoyed 61
years of marriage and were very seldom apart. They
celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary with a party at
the Crystal Lake Methodist Church in 1986, leaving them with
many wonderful memories. They delivered Winnebago Motor
Homes for 15 years going all over the U.S. including Alaska.
They also spent many winters in Texas in their motor home.
One winter they traveled to Yellowstone National Park with
several other couples where they enjoyed snowmobiling
through the park. They enjoyed snowmobiling, square dancing,
traveling, gardening and crafts, but most of all they
enjoyed spending time with their family and helping out
whenever they could.
Naomi was a member of the
Crystal Lake United Methodist Church as well as the UMW. She
enjoyed the Crystal Lake Senior Citizens Center and their
many activities over the years. The most memorable being
their "Kitchen Band" of which she was a member. They played
for many different organizations and were in many parades.
Naomi moved to Forest City in the spring of 1998 after her
husband, Richard's death. She was a member of the Leland
Senior Citizens and the Kum Along Club in Forest City. She
continued to attend church both at Forest City and Crystal
Lake United Methodist church where she was honored as a 50
year member. In the winter of 2001 Naomi's health declined
and as a result she decided to move to Missouri that summer
to the Ozarks Methodist Manor retirement community. She
thoroughly enjoyed life at the assisted living community.
She made many new friends and attended all the social events
possible. But after suffering heart problems in 2004 and a
fall that broke her hip in 2005, Naomi moved to the Sonshine
Manor in Republic, Missouri, where she resided until her
death.
Naomi is survived by one
daughter, Judy Gjerde and her husband, Ron of Billings,
Missouri; one son, Gary Larson and his wife, Charlotte of
Algona; one daughter-in-law, Diane Larson of Owatonna,
Minnesota; five grandchildren, Lisa (Ted) Emmons, Rick (Tori)
Larson, Dan Larson, Lori (Richard) Ford, Matt (Nancy) Gjerde;
eleven great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter;
one great-great-grandson; one sister-in-law; and numerous
nieces, nephews, other families and friends.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; her husband, Richard; one son, Dennis
Larson; one grandson, Ryan Larson; one granddaughter, Dawn
Marie Larson; one brother, Morton Larson and four sisters,
Gladys Nelson, Carrie Shumann, Vesta Hunsley and Maude
Larson in infancy.
