LuVern James Wooge, 77

July 24, 2007

LuVern James Wooge, 77, of Indian Head, Maryland, formerly of Frankford Arsenal, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, died on Sunday, July 1, 2007, of a heart attack in Vancouver, British Columbia.

A memorial service was held on Thursday, July 12, at the St. James Episcopal Church, Indianhead, Maryland. Burial will take place in the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia at a later date.

LuVern was born on January 14, 1930, on a farm near Forest City, the son of the late William and Grace (Hefte) Wooge. He graduated from the Forest City High School in 1948 as president and valedictorian of his class.

Mr. Wooge held a bachelor of science degree from the U. S. Military Academy at West Point and a master's degree in engineering sciences from Purdue University. He retired as a Lt. Col. after 21 years of active service in the U. S. Army. He worked as a civilian mechanical engineer for the U.S. Navy for 18 1/2 years. He received the Bronze Star for his tour of duty in Vietnam.

He enjoyed woodcarving and carved figurines. He had carved six sets of the shields of the apostles for various churches he had attended. He was a Mason for 45 years and was twice past master. He served several times as worthy patron with the Eastern Star, was a member for 28 years of the Lions Club, where he served twice as president and was a member of the St. James Episcopal Church. In addition to woodcarving, he also enjoyed traveling and was a history buff.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy E. Wooge, whom he married on December 11, 1954; sons, LuVern James Wooge Jr. and his wife, Becky Wooge of Ames and William Edward Wooge of Washington, D.C.; daughter, Carole Jeanne Wepler and her husband, Ronald Wepler of Belleville, Michigan: brother, Galen Wooge of Crystal Lake; sisters, Arlene Baker of Forest City, Darlene Nelson of Amherst, Wisconsin, Wilma Thompson of Forest City and Betty Lou Foster of Barstow, California; grandsons, Christopher Joseph “Chris” Wepler and LuVern James “Trey” Wooge III.

Rodney Wayne Olson, 50

July 10, 2007

Rodney Wayne Olson, 50, of Altoona, died on Tuesday, July 3, 2007.

Funeral services were held on Saturday July 7, at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, with Reverend Dean Hess of the Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake officiating. Visitation was held on Friday at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel. Interment was in the Madison Township Cemetery, Forest City.

Rodney was born on July 14, 1956, to Carl and Dollis (Babcock) Olson in Forest City. He graduated from the Clear Lake High School in 1974, and from the North Iowa Area Community College in 1976.

On September 5, 1981, Rodney married Sandra Ouderkirk at the United Methodist Church in Atlantic, Iowa. The couple settled in Iowa City, where they were blessed with two children, Jason Christopher, 21 and Laura LeAnn, 15. The family moved to Knoxville in 1994 and then to Altoona in 2004. Rodney worked as a Pharmacy Technician in Des Moines prior to his early retirement in 2003, due to health reasons.

Rodney enjoyed spending time with his family quietly at home and enjoyed his hobbies of chess, coin collecting and tropical fish.

Rodney is survived by his wife of 25 years, Sandra Olson of Altoona; his son, Jason; daughter, Laura; parents, Carl and Dollis Olson of Clear Lake; brothers, Randy (Jo) Olson of Richmond, Virginia and Ronald (Darla) Olson of Lu Verne, Iowa. He is also survived by twenty nieces and nephews, three great-nieces and nephews and other relatives.

Rodney was preceded in death by his oldest brother, Ronald Wayne who died in infancy; and his grandparents, Abe and Gert Olson and Willis and Elna Babcock.

The Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.

Philip Sweers, 57

August 14, 2007

Philip Sweers, 57, of Britt, died on Saturday, July 7, 2007, at the St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, with his family gathered around him praying the Lord's Prayer.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, July 11, at the Britt United Methodist Church, with Pastor Robert Dodge officiating. Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.

Philip Ben Sweers, the son of Ben and Mary Rose Hall Sweers, was born on February 17, 1950 in Forest City. Phil was baptized and confirmed in the Britt Methodist Church. He attended the Britt Community Schools and graduated from the Britt High School with the class of 1968. Following high school, Phil attended Iowa State University, graduating in 1972 with a degree in Farm Operations and a minor in Agronomy and Animal Science.

Phil Sweers and Robin Faber were married on July 14, 1973 in Clearwater, Florida. The couple made their home on a farm near Kanawha, where Phil farmed for 28 years. He served as a substitute rural mail carrier. He worked at the Garner-Hayfield Community School. In 2002, the family moved to Britt. Phil was employed with the West Hancock Community School District as a custodian for the Kanawha school site.

He was a member of the Britt United Methodist Church. Throughout the years he has served as chair and member of the board of trustees. Phil was also chair and member of the administrative council. He was a Sunday School and confirmation teacher, youth leader, a member of the bell and vocal choirs, nursery coordinator and lay speaker. He also was elected as a member of the Agricultural and Review Board, a 4-H Leader for 25 years and past member of the Hancock County Extension Council.

Phil's greatest joy in life was being able to help and provide for everyone around him. Whether it be the kids in school, his family on the farm, or Robin and Kevin at home.

Phil showed his care and love for other every second of his life. Phil worked hard, and those who loved him take comfort that his long shift is over now. God called Phil back to His perfect home. Phil has time to rest now.

Phil is survived by his wife, Robin, of Britt; son, Kevin of Mason City; parents, Ben and Mary Rose Sweers of Britt; two sisters, Becky (Ron) Holten of Mitchell, South Dakota and Janice Sweers of Britt; brothers, Charles (Sharon) Sweers of Lake Mills, Fred (Renee) Sweers of Moville and Jim (Julie) Sweers of Kanawha; ten nieces and nephews; two great-nieces; and one great-nephew; and by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and other family members.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Charles and Lela Hall; paternal grandparents, John and Sena Sweers; and twin nieces, Stacy and Stephanie Holten.

Dean Henry Nerdig, 87

July 10, 2007

Dean Henry Nerdig, 87, died on Sunday, July 8, 2007, at the Muse Norris Hospice in-patient unit, Mason City.

Memorial services were held on Tuesday, July 10, 2007, at the St. Luke Lutheran Church, Nora Springs, with Rev. Dr. Jenney Edinger officiating. Interment was in the Olena Mound Cemetery, Buffalo Center. Visitation was held on Monday, July 9, at the St. Luke Lutheran Church, Nora Springs. Memorials may be made to the St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Nora Springs or the Hospice of North Iowa, Mason City.

Dean Henry Nerdig, was born on January 5, 1920, to Henry Albert Nerdig & Elizabeth Schaefer Nerdig at the Lone Star Farm in Winnebago County. He was baptized at the Ellis Point Methodist Episcopal Church on July 25, 1920, and later confirmed his faith at the same church. He attended the Buffalo Center Schools and graduated from the Buffalo Center High School in 1937.

He entered Iowa State College in Ames and received a bachelor of science in poultry husbandry on December 16, 1942. While at Iowa State, he organized the Iowa State College's first Baby Chick Show and received the Ramsey Award. In his lifetime dedicated to farming, Dean began his agriculture experience farming with horses and completed his career in a time when agriculture was directed by computers.

Dean taught vocational agriculture at the Northwood, Garner, and Forest City Public Schools. He founded the FFA chapter in Northwood. During these years he was honored to have four of his FFA chapter leaders go on to be President of the Iowa State FFA Organization. One of his and Berdean's greatest joys was to take senior FFA students on an annual two-week trip to various points of interest around the US. Dean was a salesman for Quaker Oats, Full of Pep Poultry Division. He started his career at NIACC as an Instructor and later became the Head of the Ag Department.

Dean was instrumental in organizing several firsts in Iowa, such as the Iowa Association of Anhydrous Ammonia Dealers, managing the first anhydrous ammonia retail outlet in Iowa located in Forest City and another plant in Mason City. He was on the original board of the North Iowa Breeders Co-op at Kanawha. He created the first grain show held in Northwood. He served on fair boards for Worth, Hancock, Winnebago and North Iowa Fairs. He was a council member at large for Floyd County from 1982 through 1986. Dean served as mayor of Nora Springs for more than 2 years.

He married Berdean Marjorie Frandle of Rake at the Zion Lutheran Church in Rake on October 10, 1944. In their early years Dean and his family lived in Garner, Forest City and Mason City. He is father to Donald Nerdig married to Jeanne (Yunck) of Columbia Falls, Montana, Mary (Nerdig) Balluff married to Richard Balluff of Omaha, Nebraska, Dave Nerdig married to Linda (Heidenreich) Nerdig of Urandale, Iowa, Molly (Nerdig) Hegenbarth married to James Hegenbarth of Clarksville, Indiana and Daniel Nerdig married to Michelle (Acosta) Nerdig of Prince George, Virginia.

His favorite activities included camping with his family, gardening, and coffee with his friends. Dean and his wife owned and operated the Towne and County Feed Store. He was a member of the Nora Springs Business Association, the Iowa State Extension Council and the Master Gardner Association. Dean held offices in Kiwanis Clubs in Mason City and Nora Springs. Dean was a person of faith who supported his membership in the St. Luke's Lutheran Church by serving on several committees, holding office of president of the church council, serving on several call committees and frequently representing the church at synod assemblies.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Berdean; and his parents. His life will continue to be celebrated by his surviving five children; and sisters, Marie Sandell and Eunice Klinger. His legacy will live on through his ten grandchildren: Matthew, Lacey and Leesa Nerdig, Angela Schertz, Amanda Coffey, Benjamin and Jonathan Nerdig, Janel Sohl, Michelle Hollenbacher and Elizabeth Nerdig; and five great-grandchildren.

Gloria G. Chodur, 80

July 17, 2007

Gloria G. Chodur, 80, of Kensett, died on Monday, July 9, 2007, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, July 12, at the First Baptist Church in Forest City, with Pastor Larry Kidwell officiating. Burial was in the Kensett Cemetery in Kensett. Visitation was held on Wednesday, July 11, at the funeral home and continued an hour prior to the service at the church. The Petersen Lund Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Gloria Genevieve Chodur, the daughter of Martin and Emma (Isaacson) Borg, was born on a farm east of Forest City. She attended country school near her home and graduated from the Forest City High School in 1942. On February 12, 1947, she was married to Donald LeRoy Chodur at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City. They farmed near Leland, Thompson, Miller and in 1967 moved to their present farm at Kensett.

Gloria enjoyed spending time with her family, wintering in Phoenix, Arizona, fishing, traveling, gardening and was an avid reader. Gloria was strong in her faith and read the Bible everyday. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Forest City.

She is survived by her husband, Donald of Kensett; seven children, Marjorie (H.B.) Ross of Garner, Richard (Rhonda) Chodur of Kensett, Larry (Ellen) Chodur of Rudd, Karen (Lewis) Thompson of Osseo, Wisconsin, Joan (Troy) McCormick of Mason City, Michael Chodur of Charles City and Tami (Christopher) Thilges of La Crosse, Wisconsin; 23 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mildred Ostrander of Forest City and Arlys (Nelson) Hendrickson of Humboldt.

Gloria was preceded in death by her parents; two grandchildren, Ashley and Kody Chodur; and six brothers and sisters, Lennea, Albert, Ruth, Kenyon, Orville and Verlyene.

David C. Bolie, 80

July 17, 2007

David C. Bolie Sr., 80, died on Friday, July 13, 2007, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., on Tuesday, July 17, at  the United Methodist Church, with Pastor Shanon Pascual officiating. Interment was in the Buffalo Township Cemetery in Titonka. The Winter Funeral Home & Cremation Service was in charge of the arrangements.

David Christian Bolie Sr., was born on November 2, 1926 in Silverton, Oregon, to Christian and Ruth (Wilson) Bolie. When David was 2, the family moved to Kossuth County, Iowa, where he attended country school. He then graduated from high school in Burt, Iowa. David served in the United States Army, stationed at Fort Richardson, Alaska, from April 4, 1946 until September 24, 1947.

David married Ruth Krull at the Algona United Methodist Church on January 13, 1952. This union was blessed with five children, Dana, Renee, Douglas, David Jr. and Calvin.

David was a life-long farmer. He first farmed his father-in-law's farm in Kossuth County. They later continued farming on a farm in Winnebago County. In 1992, they retired to their home in Thompson.

David was an active member of the VFW and the Legion. David served as chairman of the FSA Committee in Thompson. He also was part of the Winnebago County Pork Producers.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Bolie of Thompson; children, Dana Bolie and significant other, Lynne Lord of Mason City, Renee Struecker and husband, Gary of Burt, Iowa, Douglas Bolie and wife, Mary Beth of Algona, David Bolie Jr. and wife, Cari of Forest City and Calvin Bolie of Thompson; grandchildren, Troy Haayer of Coal Grove, Ohio, Jeremy Bolie and wife, Molly of San Diego, California, David Bolie Ill. and Brittany Bolie of Buffalo Center; step-grandchildren, Shelby, Shaelyn and Shayne Hoeft of Forest City; brothers, Wayne Bolie of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Paul and wife, Shirley of Brea, California and Kenneth and wife, Rose of Lamoni; sisters-in-law, Violet Bolie of Orange City, Iowa and Mary Jean Bolie of Cherokee, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

David was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Faye and Weldon; twin sister, Donna and her husband, Marreld Millard; sister-in-law, Erleen Bolie; and his beloved granddaughter, Sarah Bolie.

Daniel D. Christ, 40

July 24, 2007

Daniel David Christ, 40, of Iowa City, Iowa, died on Sunday, July 15, 2007, of injuries received in a motorcycle accident near Hartford, Wisconsin.

Funeral service were held on Saturday, July 21, at the Zion Lutheran Church. Visitation was held on Friday, July 20, at the Lensing Funeral Home and at the Zion Lutheran Church before the funeral. Memorials may be designated to the Zion Lutheran Church music program or Habitat for Humanity.

Daniel was born on March 30, 1967 in Iowa City, to David and Ruth (Moe) Christ. He graduated from the West High School in 1985 and then from St. Olaf College in 1989. Daniel married Christine Stockard on June 3, 1989 at the Zion Lutheran Church. He worked at Target in building maintenance for the last 10 years, and prior to that at Bachman's nursery in Lakeville, Minnesota.

Daniel was a member of the Iowa City Community String Orchestra, Zion Lutheran Choir and was President of Pure Stodge Touring Association, BMW Motorcycle Club #30.

Daniel is survived by his wife, Chris; son Jeffery of Iowa City; parents, David and Ruth of Iowa City; grandmother, Helen Moe of Iowa City; brother, Aaron of Anchorage, Alaska; sister, Rachel (Sigurd) Steffensen of Kabelvaag, Norway; and mother-in-law, Mary Stockard of Crosslake, Minnesota.

Daniel was preceded in death by his grandfathers; and a grandmother.

Lura Eileen Frank, 97

July 24, 2007

Lura Eileen Frank, passed away on Monday, July 16, 2007, at the Rotary Ann Retirement Home in Eagle Grove, at the age of 97 years.

Funeral services were held on Friday, July 20, 2007, at 10:00 a.m., at the United Church of Christ in Eagle Grove, with Pastor James Cunningham officiating. Visitation was on Thursday, from 5-7:00 p.m., at the Foust Funeral Home, Eagle Grove. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery.

Lura, the daughter of William H. and Margaret R. (Humphrey) Weinhold, was born on January 18, 1910 in Wadena, Indiana. She moved to Eagle Grove with her family at the age of 6 weeks and spent her entire life there except for seven years spent in Britt and Austin, Minnesota. She graduated from the Eagle Grove High School in 1928, Eagle Grove Junior College in 1930 and transferred to Iowa State University.

On August 22, 1935, Lura was united in marriage with Donald T. Frank of Wood Lake, Minnesota, at the First Congregational Church in Eagle Grove. Lura was very proud of her role as a farmer's wife as well as working for the Eagle Grove Community Schools and the Eagle Grove Rotary Ann Homes.

Lura was a member of the United Church of Christ where she served in the church guild, church circles and was a choir member most of her adult life serving as a soloist to the age of 80 years. She was also a member of the Troy Culture Club, Friendship Club and served as a 4-H Assistant Leader.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald on August 14, 1969; brother, Willard; brother-in-law, Martin Frank; and sisters-in-law, Luella, Zepha and Frances.

Survivors include her children, Dale A. Frank and wife, Joy of Charles City, Wayne S. Frank and wife, Judy of Sigourney, Doryce D. Halverson and husband, Don of Eagle Grove and Myrle G. Frank and wife, Cynthia of El Dorado Hills, California; Jackie Yon McFalls, as dear as a daughter and husband, Don of Mesquite, Texas; 10 grandchildren, Kristin Frank of North English, Karin Schweda (Steffen) of Charles City, Rob Frank (Tina) of Keota, Chris Carter (Natches) of Sigourney, Kurt Halverson (Tracey) of Winder, Georgia, Deborah Schmidt (Nathan) of Altoona, Scott Halverson of Clear Lake, Nathan Frank of Placerville, California, Naomi Shue (Karl) of Citrus Heights, California and Noble Frank of Orangevale, California; 18 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, LaVerna Frank of Britt.

Marjorie B. Hagen, 82

July 24, 2007

Marjorie B. Hagen, 82, of Forest City, died on Sunday, July 22, 2007, at her home in rural Forest City. 

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Wednesday, July 25, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Scarville, with Pastor Randy Baldwin officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 p.m., on Tuesday, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home in Lake Mills and again at the church one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in rural Scarville.

Marjorie Bernice (Amundson) Hagen, was born on June 23, 1925, to Ole and Marie (Olson) Amundson near Scarville. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith affirming Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior.

Marjorie married Kenneth Hagen on October 28, 1949. Together they dairy farmed near Scarville until they retired in 1980 and moved to a home near Forest City.

Marjorie was a loving, caring and devoted wife. She was an active member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Scarville, especially participating in the choir, circle and serving wherever she was needed. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, and was secretary for the Olson family reunion for many years.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth; brother-in-law, Alvin Hagen and sister-in-law, Myrtle Hagen of Scarville, Iowa; along with several cousins and other relatives and friends.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents.

Vera Mae Wegner, 93

July 31, 2007

Vera Mae Wegner, passed away on Monday, July 23, 2007, at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt. She was 93.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 1, 2007, from 5:30-8 p.m., at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home in LuVerne. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, at 10:30 a.m., at the Zion Lutheran Church in LuVerne, with Reverend Henry Friedrich officiating. Burial will be in the LuVerne Cemetery.

Vera was born on March 28, 1914 in LuVerne, Iowa, the daughter of Arnold and Mary (Petersen) Wegner. She was a member of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in LuVerne. She was baptized, confirmed and married there. Vera was always very active in church, and was a member of the Mission Mites. She was a Godparent to Sharon Miller, Becky Tobey, Debbi Varney and Kirk Nielson.

Vera grew up in the LuVerne area. After graduating from the LuVerne High School, she worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone, as a telephone operator for three years. She was united in marriage to Frederick Will on December 22, 1934. The couple farmed in the Corwith and LuVerne areas their entire lives. In these communities, she was a long time member of the Thursday Club and the LuVerne Good Will Club. She lived on their century farm for 47 years before moving to LuVerne for nine years. Vera later became a resident of the Westview Care Center.

Left to cherish her memory are her three children, Roger and Connie Will of Forest City and their children, Wendy (John) Hartley, Denise (David) Nickerson and Darin Will; Michael and Barbara Will of Atlanta, Georgia and their children, Chad (Lee Ann) Will, Jodie (Brian) Zwerner and Amy (Hardy) Brumfield; Mary and Steve Aagard of Forest City and their children, Kathy (John) Kirschbaum and Jason (Michele) Aagard. Also surviving are 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frederick on September 26, 1981; four sisters, Helen Nielson, Geneva Osterloh, Burnell Dawson and infant sister, Mary Joyce Wegner.

Rev. Albert R. Snyder, 79

July 31, 2007

Rev. Albert R. Snyder, 79, of Forest City, died on Tuesday, July 24, 2007, at the Forest Plaza Assisted Living in Forest City.

Funeral services were held on Friday, July 27, at the Calvary Baptist Church in Forest City, with Rev. Doug Farrell officiating. Music was provided by organist, Sheryl Johnson, pianist, Lori Farrell and vocalist, Richard Johnson. Casket bearers were Steve Johnson, Rev. Larry Johnson, Mark Smith, Gordon Larson, David Cole and Craig Cole. Burial was in the Madison Township Cemetery in Forest City. The Petersen Lund Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the Calvary Baptist Church.

Rev. Albert Ray Snyder, the son of Arthur R. and Beulah (Zimmerman) Snyder, was born on September 5, 1927 at Ashland, Pennsylvania. As a young teen Albert gave his heart and life to Jesus Christ. He graduated from the Ashland High School in 1945 and continued his education at the National Bible Institute in New York City, Shelton College in New York City and Upper Iowa University. Albert was ordained as a minister on January 27, 1949. After ordination, he went to Columbia, South America as a missionary. Upon his return to the U.S., he took his first pastorate at Ottumwa, Iowa.

On May 21, 1954, he was married to Anna Mae Smith at the Calvary Baptist Church in Forest City. To this union two children were born, Faith Ann and John. Albert served churches in Iowa, Minnesota, Illinois and Kansas before retiring in 1990 and moving to Forest City. He still continued in his ministry serving First Baptist Church in Cresco and First Congregational Church in Forest City. He enjoyed fishing, metal detecting and telling jokes.

He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church.

Albert is survived by his wife, Anna Mae; two children, Faith Snyder of Evansville, Indiana and John (Elaine) Snyder of Watertown, Minnesota; two grandchildren, Zachary and Micah Snyder; his twin sister, Alma Oswald of Walnutport, Pennsylvania; and a sister-in-law, Alice Snyder.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Harold.

Mildred L. Thompson, 87, of Forest City, died on Tuesday, July 24, 2007, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 28, at the West Prairie Lutheran Church near Leland, with Rev. Timothy Miller officiating. Music was provided by pianist, Holly Buffington who accompanied a congregational hymn. Special Music was provided by Kevin Olson. Casket bearers were Todd Buffington, Denny Peterson, Tom Aitchison, Heidi Aitchison, Holly Buffington and Tracy Peterson. Burial was in the Bethel Lutheran Cemetery in Vinje. The Petersen Lund Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mildred Luella Thompson, the daughter of Walter and Emma (Brakke) Olson, was born on February 17, 1920 at Albert Lea, Minnesota. She was raised by Palmer and Nora Olson of Leland and grew up with their son, Clifford, as her brother. She attended school at Lake Mills.

On December 9, 1937, she was married to Alfred Thompson at Scarville. They farmed in the Leland, Scarville and Forest City areas. After retiring from farming, they moved into Lake Mills and in 1973 to Forest City. She enjoyed spending time with her family, flowers and wintering in Texas.

She was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church in Vinje.

Mildred is survived by her daughter, Jean (Allen) Peterson of Leland; her son, Jerry (Debbie) Thompson of Lebanon, Missouri; three grandchildren, Nancy (Bruce) Buffington of Forest City, Tammy Callahan of Leland and David (Robin) Peterson of Forest City; five great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred in 1985; her parents; son, Duane; and two great-granddaughters, Heather and Tara.

Julie W. Ledlie, 74

August 7, 2007

Julie Walker McDonald Ledlie, 74, died on Tuesday, July 31, 2007, at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Forest City.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 11, 2007, at 2:00 p.m., in the Chapel of the United Methodist Church in Forest City. There will be no reviewal. Burial will be in the Pine Hill Cemetery in Des Moines. Please forward memorials for Julie to the Hospice of North Iowa, Forest City.

Julie was born at Carroll, Iowa, on March 6, 1933, to Thomas Walker and Edith Newlove McDonald. She grew up in Des Moines and attended the Des Moines public schools, graduating from the East High School in 1953. Following high school she attended Drake University where she majored in English and graduated with a degree in education.

Following graduation from Drake she flew as a stewardess for United Air Lines for several years before she took a job teaching in Earlham and Des Moines.

Julie and Robert Ledlie were married in 1965. They farmed south of Des Moines during the period of their marriage. They divorced in 1970. Julie lived in Titonka, Clear Lake and Forest City during the last years of her life.

Survivors include Dr. Malcolm and Judy McDonald of Austin, Minnesota, Dr. William and Margaret Riecke of Brevard, North Carolina and Julie's nephews, Ian McDonald of Hutchinson, Minnesota, Charles Riecke of Chicago, Illinois and Todd Riecke of Travis City, Michigan.

Nancy Jo Reuter, 45

August 14, 2007

Nancy Jo (Saville) Reuter, 45, of Forest City, passed away on Tuesday, July 31, 2007, at the Muse Norris Hospice Center in Mason City, after a courageous 2 year battle with multiple myeloma.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 4, with Rev. Edward Shields at the Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home. She was laid to rest at the Redding Cemetery in Redding, Iowa. The Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home is caring for Nancy and her family.

Nancy was born on February, 1, 1962, at the Ringgold County Hospital in Mount Ayr. She was the third daughter of Robert Wilbur Saville and Ruth Marie (Downing) Saville of Delphos, Iowa. She was raised in Delphos and baptized at the Delphos Baptist Church on November 3, 1974 by Rev. Norman Noble. She was educated in Maloy, Benton and Mount Ayr, graduating with the Mount Ayr Community High School class of 1980.

She married Thomas John Reuter on May 5, 1984. To this union three children were born, twin sons, Jason Robert Reuter and wife, Holly, now stationed with the Marines in Virginia, Shaun Michael Reuter, now deployed to Spain and fiancée, Megan Simpson of Indianapolis, Indiana and Jessica Lynn Reuter living at home. The couple later divorced. Tom preceded her in death on August 29, 2006.

Nancy is survived by her mother, Ruth Saville of Delphos; sons, Jason (Holly) and Shaun and fiancée, Megan Simpson and daughter, Jessica; sisters, Connie Wallace and niece, Megan of New Market and Tammy Flugge (Roger) and niece and nephew, Matthew and Paige of Marshalltown; aunts, Mary Cavin of Clarinda, Shirley Cole of Bolivar, Missouri and Jackie Saville of Wathena, Kansas; uncles, Frank Saville (Cathy) of Garden City, Missouri and Sam Stephens of Pueblo, Colorado; and a host of family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Robert (Bob) Saville in December 1985; niece, Amy Jo Wallace in infancy; paternal grandparents, Wilbur and Mamie Saville; maternal grandparents, Beryl and Anna Downing; cousin, Sue Maxwell; aunts, Dorothy Stephens, Hazel Newman and Pauline Smith; and uncles, Lyie Cavin, Howard Newman, Richard Saville, Bob Downing, Don Downing and Bill Cole.

Nancy is now in the arms of her Lord. She will be missed by family, neighbors and friends.
