Roy C. Anderson, 93, died
on Saturday, February 5,
2005, at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.
Memorial services were
held on Monday, February 7, at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home in Forest City, with Rev. Jerry
Blake, pastor of the St. James Catholic Church officiating. Burial will be at a
later date, with the Petersen Lund Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Roy C. Anderson, was born in Moline,
Illinois on March 8, 1911, the son of Walter and Florence (Miller) Anderson.
Roy attended school in Moline. On April 30, 1938, he married Esther Lindstedt in
Galva, Illinois. Roy worked as a welder his entire life. During World War II he
plied his trade at the Arsenal in Rock Island, Illinois. For most of his working
years, he did auto body repair at the Moline Body Company. He retired in 1963.
Roy loved cars and loved to drive so he and Esther did a lot of traveling to
visit family in the Midwest and the West Coast. They enjoyed going out for lunch
and a weekly game of bowling with friends. Roy was a big Cubs fan and liked
watching sports on TV.
He is survived by his wife, Esther Anderson
of Forest City; two sons and their wives, Larry R. and Colleen (Walsh) Anderson
of Forest City and Keith W. and Lois Anderson of Olympia, Washington; seven
grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents;
two brothers, Ray and Elmer (Pat); and a sister, Mabel.

N. Gene Stumo, 71, died
on Saturday, February 12,
2005, at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.
Memorial services
will be held on Wednesday, February 16, at the Elk Creek Lutheran Church, rural Kensett,
with Reverend Allan J. Stoa officiating. Inurnment will be in the Elk Creek
Lutheran Church Cemetery, with military graveside honors by the Our Buddies VFW
Memorial Post #6779 of Northwood. Visitation will be from 4-7:00 p.m., on
Tuesday, February 15, at the Conner Colonial Chapel,
Northwood and one hour prior to the service time on Wednesday at the church.
According to his wishes his body will be cremated.
N. Gene Stumo, was born on April 9, 1933 in
Hayward, Minnesota, the son of Gerhard Joseph and Julia Harriet (Holstad) Stumo. He
attended the Brookfield Township Elementary School and graduated from the Kensett High
School class of 1951. Gene was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1953 and fought
in the Korean Conflict until his honorable discharge on December 28, 1954. He
was united in marriage to Ilyce Nelson on November 19, 1955, at the Elk Creek
Lutheran Church. Gene began farming in 1955 and farmed in the Northwood area
until 1980. He worked for Winnebago Industries in Forest City for over 15 years
until his retirement.
He enjoyed going to the Corner Post Restaurant in
Northwood, mowing lawns, watching sports on TV and being involved in the
Kensett Variety Show, but his great love and enjoyment was his family and
grandchildren. He was a member of the Elk Creek Lutheran Church, church choir for 50
years, men's Bible study group, former member of the Elk Creek Lutheran Church
council, Kensett Variety Show, Elk Creek Lutheran Church Cemetery Board, the Our
Buddies VFW Memorial Post #6779 of Northwood and the Kensett Lions Club.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife,
Ilyce Stumo of Northwood; three sons, Scott Stumo and his wife, Chloe Ann of
Northwood, Dan Stumo and special friend, Julie Schutz of Northwood and Donavon Stumo and his wife, Anne-Marie of Northwood; five grandchildren, Jessica Beyer of
Madelia, Minnesota, Jaime Wathall and her husband, David of Carrolton, Texas, Nikole
Unger and her husband, Carl of Prior Lake, Minnesota, Keith Stumo of Minneapolis,
Minnesota and Shelby and Kyle Stumo of Northwood; a sister, Helen Olness and her
husband, Roger of Benson, Minnesota; two brothers, Charles Stumo and his wife, Mary of
Northwood and David Stumo and his wife, Clarice of Paynesville, Minnesota; a
sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ann Baker and her husband, Tom of Wayzata,
Minnesota; as well as other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents;
and aunts and uncles.

Hazel Ingebretson, 89

Hazel N. Ingebretson,
89, died on Saturday, February 12, 2005.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, February 15, at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal,
Missouri, with Pastor Richard Ingmire officiating. Burial will be in the Oakland
Cemetery in Forest City, on Wednesday, February 16, at 2:00 p.m.
Hazel Lenore, the daughter of Henry and
Clara Nyhus, was born on December 9, 1915, in the Leland farm home of her parents.
Hazel graduated from the Leland High School and then the Naeve Hospital School of
Nursing in Albert Lea, Minnesota. She joined the Navy during WW II and served as a
nurse in Attu, Alaska and later on the USS Consolation. She left the Navy after
six years to marry Andrew Ingebretson on Easter Sunday, April 17, 1949, at the West
Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Leland. Hazel and Andy made their home in
Rockwell City for 45 years where they were well known for the caramel apple and
candy from their Palace of Sweets. Besides raising two children, she tended
large gardens year after year, freezing, canning, giving or selling the bounty.
As an RN she did private duty nursing and later worked at the Iowa Women's
Reformatory in the medical department, retiring in 1978.
She was an avid bowler
and held a record for women's high series in Rockwell City with a 602. She had a
deep appreciation for music and a special knack for entertaining with her
harmonica. Hazel was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Rockwell City, where
she taught Sunday School and was active in women's circles, Cursillo and
quilting days. Since 1994, she has resided at the Luther Manor Nursing Home in Hannibal.
Hazel is survived by a son, Michael and his
wife, Paula of Hannibal, Missouri and a daughter, Jean and her husband, Terry of Flower
Mound, Texas; and grandchildren, Ryan, Aaron, Summer, Amy and Erik.
She was preceded in death by her husband;
her parents; brothers, Harry and Richard; and sisters, Ferne, Mavis and Jane.

D. Larson, 78, of Forest City, died on Wednesday, February 16, 2005, at her home in
Forest City.
Funeral services were held on Friday, February 18, at the Petersen Lund Funeral
Home in Forest City, with Rev. Lee Laaveg, pastor of the Immanuel Lutheran Church
officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery in Lohrville, with the Petersen Lund
Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Doris D. Larson, was
born on July 23, 1926 in Lohrville, the daughter of E. Elvin (Cap) Fowler and
Gertrude (Hicks) Fowler. Doris attended and graduated from high school in
Lohrville in 1945. She was married to Edward R. Larson on July 23, 1947 in Lohrville. They made their home in Lohrville and later Farnhamville where they
raised their three children, Tom, Jerry and Sheila. In 1974, she moved to Fort
Dodge, Iowa, then to St. Louis Park, Minnesota to care for her mother. In 1985,
Doris moved to Forest City where she has lived the past 19 years of her life.
Doris enjoyed doing cross-stitching, spending time in her flower garden and was
most happy celebrating life with her family and friends.
She
is survived by three children, Thomas (Patty Bucknam) Larson of O'Fallon,
Illinois, Jerry (Marce Fort) Larson of Georgetown, Kentucky and Sheila (John)
Greenwood of Forest City; a brother, Harold (Irene) Fowler of Carroll;
eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and her former
husband, Edward Larson of Forest City. Doris was preceded in
death by her parents; aunts, uncles and grandparents.

Allan
B. Behrens, 57, of Forest City, died on Thursday, February 17, 2005, at the Lake Mills
Care Center in Lake Mills.
Memorial services were held on Friday, February 18, at the
Petersen Lund Funeral Home in Forest City, with Rev. Bill Peters, pastor of
the Winnebago Lutheran Church officiating. Inurnment was in the Appleton Cemetery in
Appleton, Minnesota on Saturday, February 19, with Rev. Tim Remstrum, pastor of
the Trinity
Lutheran Church in Appleton officiating. The Petersen Lund Funeral Home was in
charge of the arrangements.
Allan "Whitey" Behrens, was born in Appleton, Minnesota on April
8, 1947, the son of William and Irene (Schroeder) Behrens. Allan attended school
in Appleton and furthered his education at the Granite Falls Technical College where
he graduated with a Degree as a Production Machinist. He worked in Clarkfield,
Minnesota, as a maintenance man for a nursing home for several years. Allan was united
in marriage with Caroline Engstrom and the couple lived in Leland and Forest
City. In 1982, Allan began working at Winnebago Industries and continued there
until becoming disabled.
Allan loved his family and treasured time spent with
his grandchildren. He liked to go fishing once in a while but the highlight of
his day was going for coffee and socializing with his friends.
Allan is survived by his sons and their families, Cory
Behrens and wife, Melissa and their daughter, Taylor of Redwood Falls, Minnesota; Tony
Behrens and wife, Mary and their children, Corey, Nicole and Ashley of Forest
City; Traves Behrens and wife, Anna and their daughter, Trisity of Joice; four
children from a previous marriage, Michael, Tammy, Jennifer and LeAnn; three
brothers, Arvid Behrens and wife, Jan of Elysian, Minnesota; Ralph Behrens and wife,
Carol of Echo, Minnesota; and Helmer Behrens and wife, Joyce of Phoenix, Arizona; two
sisters, Beatrice Shelstad and husband, Verlyn of Clinton, Minnesota and Patricia Jaskoviac and husband, Jim of Forest City; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews
and friends.
Allan was preceded in death by his parents; his wife,
Caroline; a sister, Beverly Wilts; and a brother, Roger Behrens.

Rev.
David Hawbaker, 94, formerly of Elmore, Minnesota, died on Sunday, February 20, 2005, at
his home in Blue Earth, Minnesota.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, February 22, at the
Shiloh Lutheran Church in Elmore, Minnesota, with Pastor Arlon Lee of the River of Life
Worship Center in Blue Earth and Pastors John and Nancy Alexander of the New Hope
Tabernacle in Lake Mills officiating. Burial was in the Riverview Cemetery in
Elmore, Minnesota, with the Winter Funeral Home in Blue Earth in charge of the arrangements.
David Quinten Hawbaker, was born on March 17, 1910 in Dallas
County, Iowa, the son of Levi K. and Ella E. (Miracle) Hawbaker. He attended
country school near Bancroft. In 1927, the Hawbaker family moved to rural
Elmore, where David helped his parents farm. On August 15, 1930, David was
united in marriage with Opal Swadley at Elmore. During their time in Elmore,
Dave worked as a Fuller Brush Man for 15 years in addition to various other jobs
he held. In 1960, the couple moved to Lake Mills and while there, David owned
and operated Dave's Lawn and Garden Service, helping customers in the North Iowa
area from 1960 until 1988. In 1964, David was ordained and filled the position
as pastor at the Highway Chapel in Forest City for five years and subsequently
filled in for vacationing pastors throughout the region.
David and Opal's
greatest sermons were preached by the example of their lives. Since their
retirement in 1988, David and Opal have attended the Shiloh Lutheran Church in
Elmore and the River of Life Worship Center in Blue Earth.
Survivors include his wife of 74 years, Opal; five children,
Mildred Barton and her husband, Harold of Kerrville, Texas, David Lester Hawbaker
and his wife, Juanita of Seattle, Washington, Marijane Bard of Mansfield, Ohio, Elsie
Wood and her husband, Bill of Garland, Texas and Retha Hanson and her husband,
Charles of Garland, Texas; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three
great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Levi and Ella; three
brothers; one sister; and a son-in-law, Eddie Bard.

CORWITH—Mary Ann
Perkins, 92, died on Monday, February 21, 2005, at the Kanawha Community Home.
Funeral
services were held on Saturday, February 26, at the Grace Baptist Church in Corwith, with
Pastor John Brown officiating. Interment was in the Corwith Cemetery, with the Ewing Dugger Funeral Home of Britt in charge of
the arrangements. Organist, Bev Wilhite
accompanied congregational hymns. Soloist was Randy Tabb. Casket bearers were
her grandchildren. Ushers were Jim Wilhite and Pete Wilhite.
Mary, the daughter of Daniel Vorris and Jesse Katherine Faust
Pigman, was born on January 5, 1913 near Duncombe. Mary grew up on a farm in the
Britt area and attended Hayfield Country Schools. On December 7, 1929, she was
united in marriage with Raymond Perkins in Britt. To this union 13 children were
born. The couple made their home in various communities in Iowa before settling
in Corwith in 1953. Following the death of her husband, Raymond in 1967, Mary
continued to reside in Corwith until 1988 when she moved to an apartment in
Belmond. She has been a resident of the Kanawha Community Home since 1997.
Mary
took great pride in working for many years in the Corwith-Wesley schools as a
cook. She loved to garden, quilt and crochet. She will be especially remembered
for her beautiful canned goods, fresh baked breads and pies and special candies
at Christmas time. Mary was a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Corwith and the
American Legion.
Mary is survived by 10 children, June Okland and special
friend, Emory of California, Alice Tabb of Colorado, Joan Anderson of Missouri,
Marvin Perkins and his wife, Carol of Iowa, Ramona Groebner and her husband, Don
of Minnesota, Patricia Penning and special friend, Leslie of Iowa, Allen Perkins
of Arizona, Robert Perkins and his wife, Marilyn of Iowa, Karen Reher and her
husband, Richard of Michigan and Kathleen Dorr of Iowa; step-daughter, Marie Perkins
of Iowa; countless grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters; six
brothers; husband, Raymond in 1967; three sons, Delbert, Jerry and Ronald; and
one grandson, Brian Perkins.

GARNER—Arthur H. Hoeft,
98, died on Wednesday, February 23, 2005, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit,
Mason City.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 1, at the St. John's Lutheran
Church, east of Garner, with the Rev. Carl Hedberg officiating. Music was
provided by organist, Louise Boehnke who accompanied congregational hymns.
Ushers were Glenn Thada, Gene Toppin and Harold Pueggel. Honorary bearers were
Clarke Pollock, Dan O'Keefe, Harold Hall, Victor Knudtson, Henry Bokelman and
Lawrence Miller. Casket bearers were Tim Hossler, Rev. Glenn Niemann, John
Bokelman, Kevin Schultz, Rahn Brager and Donald Knudtson. Burial was in the
church cemetery with the Cataldo Funeral Home of Garner in charge of the arrangements.
Arthur Herman Hoeft, the son of Herman and Martha (Reinhardt)
Hoeft, was born on February 8, 1907 at Fort Dodge. He was baptized and confirmed at
the
St. John's Lutheran Church, east of Garner and attended the St. John's Parochial
School. Following his schooling, he worked for various farmers in the Garner and
Ventura areas. On February 27, 1934, he married Verona Anne Schultz at her
parent's home near Forest City. They farmed in the Ventura, Garner and Clear
Lake areas. In 1957, they purchased their own farm and in 1966 moved to the home
farm.
Art and Verona were active in community card clubs and fund raising for
the local community chest drive. After Verona passed away in 1986 he continued
to live on the farm. In 1995, he moved to the Prairie View Apartments in Garner. Art
was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church where he was a deacon, Walther League
and the Ventura Senior Citizens.
He is survived by two children, Darwin (Jerrilee) Hoeft of
Custer, South Dakota and Carolyn (Larry) Shadle of Carthage, Missouri; grandchildren, Ann
(Tim) Hossler of Beverly Hills, Michigan and Laura (Rev. Glenn) Niemann of Pekin,
Illinois; step-grandchildren, Patty (Marty) Allen of Gresham, Oregon, Jerrilee (Paul)
Sever of Salmon, Idaho, Renee (Tom) Dickson of Post Falls, Idaho, Dave (Jenny)
Squire of Houlton, Wisconsin and Bob (Kathy) Squire of Peru, New York; three
great-granddaughters; eight step-great-granddaughters; a step-great-grandson;
two sisters-in-law, Irma (Henry) Bokelman of Ventura and Lucille Schultz of
Mason City; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Verona
on March 23, 1986;
his parents; a brother, Lester Hoeft; a sister, Edna Knopf; and a step-great-grandson, Mark Sever.

BRITT—Hemmo Gremmer,
93, died on Saturday, February 26, 2005, at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital,
Britt.
Funeral services were held
on Tuesday, March 1, at the Cataldo Funeral Home in
Britt, with the Rev. Robert Dodge officiating. Music was provided by organist,
Tammy Johnson who accompanied vocalists, Randy and Kym Gremmer. Casket bearers
were Tracy Smith, Jeff Meyer, Randy Gremmer, Mark Melohn, Bill Dallman and Dale
Dolphin. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery, with the Cataldo Funeral Home of Britt in
charge of the arrangements.
Hemmo Gremmer, the son of Eppo and Jennie (Pomp) Gremmer, was
born on April 28, 1911, on a farm north of Wesley. He attended the rural schools
near Wesley. On July 23, 1938, he married Nellie Mae (Kearney) at Garner. They
farmed south of Hutchins all of their married life. After Nellie passed away in
1994, he continued to live on the home farm. In 1998, he became a resident of
the Kanawha Community Home.
He enjoyed his family, mowing the lawn and working
in the garden.
Hemmo is survived by his three children, Jennie Smith of
Britt, Beverly (Bill) Spencer of Britt and Kenneth (Carol) Gremmer of Forest
City; grandchildren, Vicki Schreiner and her two children, Kevin and Jessica,
Bonnie (Mark) Melohn and their two children, Jennifer and Brad, Tracy (Michelle)
Smith and their two children, Kaitlin and Glen, Lisa (Lee) Gilbaugh and their
two children, Lorienza and Leean, Sara Gremmer and Anna Gremmer; two step-grandchildren, Jeffrey (Thecla) Meyer and son, Matthew and Michelle (David)
Gabel and son, Gabriel; two brothers, Henry (Helen) Gremmer of Britt and Eppo,
Jr. (Hyla) Gremmer of Britt; two sisters, Gazena Dolphin of California and Anna
Grace Dolphin of Olathe, Kansas; a sister-in-law, Julie Gremmer of Britt; and many
nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie
on January 4, 1994;
son-in-law, Gerald R. Smith on February 9, 2004; a sister, Annie Gremmer; and six
brothers, Pete, Hemme, Stoffer (Stub), Jerry, George and Johnnie Gremmer.

Oliver
Von Hagen, 93, died on Sunday, February 27, 2005, at the Lutheran Retirement Home in
Northwood.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, March 3, at the Conner Colonial
Chapel in Northwood, with Reverend Allan J. Stoa officiating. Burial was in the
South Shell Rock Cemetery in Northwood.
Oliver William Von Hagen, was born on June 24, 1911 in Elkton,
South Dakota, the son of Oscar and Katherine (Wolf) Von Hagen. Oliver was baptized and
reaffirmed the faith of his baptism through confirmation in the German Lutheran
Church in Northwood. He attended Myrtle Township Schools in Myrtle, Minnesota. Oliver
was a lifelong resident of Northwood and began farming on a dairy farm in
Northwood. He was employed as a ground maintenance worker for the city of
Northwood at Sunset Rest Cemetery, as well as many other duties for the
city. Oliver worked for the city of Northwood for 40 years before his
retirement.
He was united in marriage to Evelyn Ryerson on February 24, 1974, in
Albert Lea, Minnesota. Oliver enjoyed going out to eat, playing cards and dancing,
but his great love and enjoyment was his family, grandchildren, and
great-grandchildren. He was a member of the Elk Creek Lutheran Church in Kensett
and the Eagles in Albert Lea, Minnesota.
Left to cherish his memory are his life long companion,
Evelyn Von Hagen of Northwood; his children, Wayne Von Hagen and his wife, Mary
of Kiester, Minnesota, Dennis Von Hagen and his wife, Marcia of Mason City, Marilyn
Soto of Forest City, Russel Von Hagen and his wife, Diane of Clarks Grove, Minnesota
and Edna Callahan and her husband, Ryan of Ellendale, Minnesota; a sister, Martha
Bassett of Northwood; a sister-in-law, Martha Von Hagen of Estherville; special
grandchildren, Allen, David, Dean and Michael Von Hagen, Gary Tritle, Shari
Charron, Tim Von Hagen, Shelly Van Dusseldorp, Jason and Brian Soto, Bobbie Jo
Gilbertson, Katie Jo Von Hagen, Melanie, Tracy and Travis Callahan, Joseph,
Amanda, Kimberly and Jennifer Von Hagen, Shane Hanson and Angie Williams; 31
great-grandchildren; several step-children and step- grandchildren; several
nieces and nephews; as well as other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Otto
Weber; a son, William Von Hagen who died in 1993; brother, Vern Von Hagen;
sister, Myrle Hove; and a great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Von Hagen.
