Velma Severson, 76, of Lake Mills, died on Saturday, March 1, 2003, at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 4, at the Salem Lutheran Church. The Rev. Roger Dykstra officiated. Burial was in the Salem Memorial Cemetery.

Survivors include her children, Valjean Hildman and her husband, Tom of Britt, Vernell Alexandres and her husband, Steve of Mason City, Vance Severson and his wife, Shirley of Waterloo, Valerie Monson and her husband, Craig of Forest City and Verlyn Severson and his wife, Oksana of Cedar Rapids; 11 grandchildren, Lonnie Friesenborg and wife, Laura and their sons, Brennan and Mitchell; Laura Kudej and husband, David and their sons, Anton and Josef and daughter, Sophia; Rhonda Newby and husband, Paul and Rhonda's son, Parker; Kristi and Kevin Alexandres; Heather and Travis Severson; Adam Severson; Alicia Wemark and husband, Jamie; Andrew Severson and wife, Laura; and Isaiah Monson; step-grandchildren, Syreeta and Andrew Monson; and by two brothers, Valdemar Lawson and Valfrid Lawson.

Jeff Boeshart, 31

March 5, 2003

Jeff Boeshart, 31, of Clear Lake, died on Sunday, March 2, 2003, as the result of an automobile accident.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Thursday, March 6, at the First Congregational Church in Clear Lake. The Reverends Thomas Healey and Barbara Stewart will officiate. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Clear Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7:30 p.m., today Wednesday, at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel in Clear Lake.

Jeff is survived by his wife, Tammy Boeshart of Clear Lake; his mother, Kathy Boeshart-Treanor of Clear Lake; his father, Fletcher Boeshart and his wife, Carol of Clear Lake; two brothers, Kevin Boeshart and his wife, Tonya and Shane Boeshart, all of Clear Lake; two step-sisters; one step-brother; father-in-law, Roger Westover of Clear Lake; grandparents, Lucile Westover and Jo Ellefson, both of Clear Lake and Bill and Bonnie Boeshart of Garner; several aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews and many friends; and by his special pets, Lexy, Max, Tyfa and Nakita.

Gene C. Huling Sr., 74, of Britt, died on Tuesday, March 4, 2003, at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 8, at the United Methodist Church in Britt. The Reverends Robert Dodge and Donna Steven officiated.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ivalou of Britt; four children, Eulinda (Lin) Rasmussen and husband, Don of Britt, Gene (Calvin) Huling Jr. of Denmark, Iowa, Dave Huling and wife, Judy of Iowa City and Gladys Radke and husband, Tom of Ulysses, Kansas; a special nephew and niece, Rick Steven and wife, Barbara of North Carolina and Dawn Tvedt and husband, Randy of Garner; grandchildren, Chad Rasmussen and wife, Amie, Erik Rasmussen and wife, Heather, Denise Metzger and husband, Jason, Cory Rasmussen, Justin Huling, Jodie Huling, Jason Schwickerath, Jessica Libolt and husband, Rob, Joshua Schwickerath, Jillian Schmillen and husband, Kyle, Ben Steven, Brandy Steven and Caitlyn, Hunter and Connor Tvedt; great-grandchildren, Ella, Carter, Caleb and Megan Rasmussen; a sister, June Soma and husband, David of Britt; two brothers, Daryl Huling of Goodell and Gary Huling and wife, Frances of Britt; and many nieces and nephews. Gene also had a special love for all of his in-laws.

Alvina L. Rusley, 72

March 12, 2003

Alvina L. Rusley, 72, of Lake Mills, died on Wednesday, March 5, 2003, at her home, after a courageous 7-year battle with cancer. 

Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 8, at the Winnebago Lutheran Church, rural Lake Mills. The Rev. Bill Peters officiated. Burial was in the Winnebago Lutheran Cemetery, with the Mittelstadt Funeral Home in Lake Mills in charge of the arrangements.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 46 years, Stanley; son, Steven of Lake Mills; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Alan Johnson of Lake Mills; grandson, Jace Johnson; aunt-in-law, Rachel Johnson of Manly; brother-in-law, Kermit Rusley of Leland; sisters-in-law, Thelma Bannon of Ballwin, Missouri, Helen and Jesse Chase of Mason City; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

She is gone from our sight, but not from our hearts.

Avanel M. Hanson, 91, of Lake Mills, died on Sunday, March 9, 2003, at the Lake Mills Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Thursday, March, 13, at the Lake Mills Evangelical Synod Church. The Rev. Karl Hermanson will officiate. Burial will be in the Somber Lutheran Cemetery, rural Lake Mills. Visitation is from 5-7:00 p.m., on Wednesday, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home in Lake Mills and again one hour prior to the services at the church on Thursday.

Arlet Helland Gold, 84, of Lake Mills, died on Tuesday, March 11, 2003, at the Lake Mills Care Center.

Funeral services were held on Friday, March 14, at the North Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Lake Mills. The Rev. Randy Baldwin officiated. Burial was in the North Prairie Lutheran Cemetery, with the Mittelstadt Funeral Home in Lake Mills in charge of the arrangements.

She is survived by her children, Ann Whitney of Minnetonka, Minnesota, Mona Massaro of Omaha, Nebraska, Sandra Lacher and her husband, Curt of Burnsville, Minnesota, Allan Helland and his wife, Bonnie of Charlotte, North Carolina and Charles Helland and his wife, Kathie of Lake Mills; 10 grandchildren; one step-grandchild; five great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; one step-great-great-grandchild; three sisters, Gladys Ludwig of Wells, Minnesota, Hazel O'Rourke of Wells and Irene Johnson of Frost, Minnesota; and one brother, Lester Egeness and his wife, Mavis of Frost.

Frank C. Seidel, 84, of Hanlontown, died on Thursday, March 13, 2003, at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

Funeral services were held on Monday, March 17, at the Grace Lutheran Church in Hanlontown. The Rev. Paul Nelson officiated. Burial was in the Brush Point Cemetery in Hanlontown, with the Mittelstadt Funeral Home in Lake Mills in charge of the arrangements.

Joseph August Kline, 72

March 19, 2003

Joseph August Kline, 72, died on Sunday, March 16, 2003, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., today Wednesday, March 19, at the Titonka United Methodist Church. The Rev. Timm Wilkin will officiate. Music will be provided by organist, Edith Tieman who will accompany congregational hymns. Honorary pallbearers will be Jesse Burkhart, Justin Burkhart and Grant Burkhart.

Casket bearers will be Vernon Burkhart, Arvin Burkhart, Travis Burkhart, Verlus Burkhart, Arlyn Burkhart and Jason Burkhart. Burial will be in the Buffalo Township Cemetery, rural Titonka, with the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home in Titonka in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his sister, Laura Burkhart and husband, Werner of Titonka; his niece, Muriel Oudekerk and husband, Tom of Glenville, Minnesota; four nephews, Vernon Burkhart and wife, Pat of Armstrong, Verlus Burkhart and wife, Sharon of Fairmont, Minnesota, Arvin Burkhart and wife, Sharon of Algona and Arlyn Burkhart and wife, Pattie of Dolliver; and several great and great-great-nieces and nephews.

Bernadette is survived by her five children, David Sowder and wife, Kathy of Vadnais Heights, Minnesota, Kris Sowder Warner and husband, Jack of Champlin, Minnesota, Linda Sowder Quigley and husband, Jim of Iowa City, John Sowder and wife, Colette of Forest City and Mary Sowder Thompson and husband, Mitchell of Oxford; six grandchildren, Christopher Warner, April Sowder, Eric Sowder, Preston Sowder and Alexandra and James Thompson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Arlene M. Deuel, 83, died on Wednesday, March 19, 2003.

Memorial services were held on Friday, March 21, at the Resthaven Mortuary in Wichita, Kansas. Deuel was a retired cosmetologist and owner of the Chez Belle and Kut and Kurl beauty salons.

Survivors include a son, Don W. Deuel of Arlee, Montana; a daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Fred Corner of Wichita, Kansas; a sister, Virginia Johnson and niece, Lynette Fisher; two brothers, Arnold Victor and niece, Fran Victor and Robert Shogren; a sister-in-law, Vera Humphrey; nephew, Richard Humphrey; niece, Linda Johnson; five grandchildren, Elisha Cumbie and husband, Mike, Alyssa Clinkenbeard and husband, Lee, Scott Corner and wife, Alicia, Lynette Hutton and husband, Daniel, Sean Corner and wife, Denise; and six great-grandchildren, Kaylin Cumbie, Logan Clinkenbeard, Kyler Clinkenbeard, Ian Hutton, Nicholas Corner and Brent Corner.

Carolyn A. (Rediehs) Fiebranz-Gerdes, 90, died on Monday, March 24, 2003.

Survivors include three sons, Jerald (Sandra) Fiebranz of Alexandria, Leon (Carol) Fiebranz of Oxford, Wisconsin and Fred (Mary) Fiebranz of Rogers, Minnesota; a step-son, Don (Rachel) Gerdes of New Freedom, Pennsylvania; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Walter is survived by his wife, Marie; two sons, Darrell Kingsbury and his wife, Betty of Jonesville, Texas and Paul Kingsbury and his wife, Fay of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Lora Harms of Long Beach, California.

Edward (Eddie) Helgren, 45, of Thompson, died on Monday, March 31, 2003, at the USA Healthcare Center in Mason City.

Funeral services were held on Friday, April 4, at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Thompson. The Rev. Mark Decker officiated. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Thompson, with the Petersen Lund Funeral Home in Forest City in charge of the arrangements.

Eddie is survived by his parents, Ernest and Beverly Helgren of Thompson; grandmother, Ruth Haberkamp of Garner; brothers, Harlan and wife, Debi of Jefferson and Palmer of Thompson; sister, Shirley Anderson and husband, Curtis of Garner; two aunts and their spouses, Bethel and Ferd Lemke of Meservey and Helen and Clark Trenhaile of Northwood; a nephew and four nieces, Nathan, Melissa, Amanda, Erika and Erin.
