John Tjabring, age 84, of Aplington,
Iowa, currently Presbyterian Village in Ackley, was born December 17,
1922, the son of Henry and Ella Koop Tjabring near Parkersburg in Butler
County, Iowa. He received his education and graduated from Aplington
High School in 1941. John was united in marriage with Evelyn Winkowitsch
on September 1, 1943 in the Bethel Reformed Church parsonage, Aplington,
Iowa. Following their marriage, he worked as a hired hand for farmers
and they lived in tenant houses. John drove lime truck for William Best
Lime Co. beginning in 1949. He also worked for various other lime
companies through the next years. In 1958 John and Evelyn moved to his
grandfather’s farm and he became employed at John Deere Tractor Works as
a welder in Waterloo. He was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1961
when he retired due to his health. He was a member of First Reformed
Church in Aplington. John enjoyed spending time playing cards and
visiting with friends when they came by. When he was able, he loved to
go fishing and hunting and later worked crossword puzzles. He was known
for the walnuts he processed and sold the meats to many customers which
included mail orders. He had a woodworking hobby with which he built
wren and bluebird houses and children’s furniture and toys. John died
Sunday, February 25, 2007, at Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, Iowa,
of natural causes. He was preceded in death by his son, Allen Tjabring
on February 15, 2004; his parents, two infant sisters and one
step-grandchild. John is survived by his wife of 63 years, Evelyn
Tjabring, Aplington, Iowa; one son, Bill (Deborah) Tjabring, Aplington,
Iowa; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; two
great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild and one daughter-in-law,
Phyllis Tjabring, Waterloo, Iowa. Funeral Services were 1:30 p.m.,
Wednesday, February 28, 2007 at First Reformed Church in Aplington, Iowa
with Rev. Harlan DeJong officiating. Organist was Lois Wessels. Vocalist
Randy Aalderks sang “How Great Thou Art” and “He Touched Me”.
Congregational Hymns were “Amazing Grace”, “Old Rugged Cross” and “He
Lives”. Casketbearers were Darwin Winkowitsch, Kendale Winkowitsch, Chad
Tjabring, T.J. Allen Tjabring, Jr., Duane Tjabring and Glen Winkowitsch.
Burial was in Pleasant View Cemetery, Aplington, Iowa. Memorials may be
sent to the church radio ministry. Redman-Schwartz Funeral Chapel,
Aplington was in charge of arrangements.
BEITELMAN

Relatives have received word of
the death of Marian Korte Beitelman on February 12, 2007 of Monticello,
IL formerly of Clarksville. Marian and her husband Jasper Beitelman will
be remembered as farmers in the Parkersburg and later for many years in
the Clarksville areas. After the passing of her husband, Marian moved to
Monticello, IL to be near her son Alfred and his wife Alice and their
children Angela and Adam. Marian reached the age of 89 on February 10th.
Her body was cremated. Inurment will take place at a later date in
Clarksville.

Memorial services for 77 year old
Keith W. Canon of Seminole, Florida, formerly of Dumont, Iowa, will be
held at a later date in Florida. Keith passed away Monday, February 19th
at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa. The arrangements in Iowa
are being handled by the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Dumont.
ACKERMAN

Roy Alvin Ackerman, age 76, of Eldora, Iowa, formerly of Allison, was
born November 12, 1930, the son of Ben and Gertie Klingenborg Ackerman,
near Allison in Butler County, Iowa. Roy lived with his parents on a
farm near Aplington, then moved with them to Allison in 1954. In 1979,
he became a resident of the Valley View Nursing & Rehab Center in
Eldora, Iowa. Roy was a member of Trinity Reformed Church. He loved
listening to KNWS radio as he especially liked the hymns. He loved the
time spent visiting and taking rides in the car. Having coffee at Hy-Vee
was a highlight for him. He had remained very busy taking part in the
nursing home activities. Roy died Tuesday, February 27, 2007, at the
Valley View Nursing & Rehab Center in Eldora, Iowa, of natural causes.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Gertie Ackerman, and
his twin brother, Ray Ackerman. Roy is survived by one brother, Clifford
(Kathy) Ackerman, Allison, Iowa; two sisters, Catherine (Bruno) Peters,
Aplington, Iowa and Bernice Busse, Allison, Iowa; four nieces and four
nephews. Funeral Services were held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 3,
2007 at the Redman-Schwartz Funeral Chapel in Aplington with Rev. Steve
Petroelje officiating. Special Hymns were “Abide With Me” and “Amazing
Grace”. Casketbearers were Steve Busse, Steve Ackerman, Tom Ackerman,
Mark Ackerman, Dennis Stansell and Joel Heuer. Burial was in Pleasant
View Cemetery, Aplington, Iowa Memorials may be directed to the family.

SMITH

Robert “Bob” Smith, 68, of Greene, died Wednesday, February 28, 2007, at
the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City. Funeral services for
Bob Smith will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in
Greene. Pastor Ashok Patet will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill
Cemetery at Greene. Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in
Charles City from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday. Visitation will continue Saturday
at the church an hour prior to the service. Robert Elliott Smith was
born April 4, 1938, near Greene, the son of Leslie and Lula (Elliott)
Smith and graduated from Greene High School in 1956. On April 17, 1957,
he was united in marriage to Margaret Kruse at Clarksville. Bob and
Margaret farmed in the Greene area all of their lives, retiring from
farming in 2006. Bob was a life long active member of the Church of the
Brethren. He will be remembered as an avid conservationist, having been
recognized for his work by Pheasants Forever. Bob also enjoyed
traveling, camping, and fishing with family and friends. He always
looked forward to attending his grandchildren’s activities. Living
family members include his loving wife of 50 years, Margaret Smith of
Greene; five children, Randy (Jayne) Smith of Ankeny, Ron (Jane) Smith
of Farmington, Minn., Ryan (Karen) Smith of Charles City, Ross (Lisa)
Smith of Norwalk, and Rhonda (Brad) Rottler of Greene; 15 grandchildren;
two great grandchildren; a brother, Duane (Twila) Smith of Greene; and a
brother-in-law, Ken Miller of Cedar Falls. He was preceded in death by

Marjorie Lucille (Toll) Brocka died of natural causes 2:30 P.M at the
Allison Nursing Home in Allison on Wed. Feb. 28, 2007, where she had
been a permanent resident since 1997. Marjorie had reached the age of 96
years, 4 months and 2 days. Marjorie was born the daughter of Fred H. &
Mynellia (Fellows) Toll on Oct. 27, 1910 in Butler Center, Iowa. She
attended country school and graduated from Allison High School in 1928.
She worked as a waitress. On Sept. 9, 1933 she married Lester E. Brocka
of Parkersburg in Galena, Illinois. They honeymooned at the World’s Fair
in Chicago. On return they made their life farming north of Parkersburg.
Marjorie & Lester had two children, Betty Lou (Oldenburger) & Larry
Lester Brocka who died at infancy, Lester passed away on Sat. May 29,
1982. Marjorie stayed on the farm until 1990 when she moved to the town
of Allison. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and gardening. Marjorie
is preceded in death by her parents, and is the last of the Fred &
Mynellia’s 8 children, four sisters; Elsie Kramer, Vera Toll in
childhood, Ila Mae Toll (stillborn), & Hazel Toll, three brothers, Vern
Toll, Kenneth Toll & Author Toll in childhood, one son, one grandson
Dale Everett Oldenburger, & her husband Lester. Marjorie was a member of
the United Church of Christ Church in Allison. Marjorie was survived by
her only daughter, Betty (Everett) Oldenburger of Parkersburg, two
grandchildren Keith (Michele) Oldenburger of Parkersburg, & June (Tom)
Reick of Fredericksburg, 5 great-grandchildren, Jameson (Jim), Josie &
Keivan Oldenburger, and Shannon & Lauren Reick. Burial services at the
Oak Hill Cemetery in Parkersburg. Honorary casket bearers are Marjorie’s

Pauline Johnson Adelmund, age 77, of Parkersburg, Iowa, was born
February 5, 1930, the daughter of John and Hulda Naumann Adelmund, in
Clarksville, Iowa. She received her education in a country school near
her home. Pauline was united in marriage with Robert James Adelmund on
August 18, 1950, in Denver, Iowa. The couple first lived on the West
Fork south of Allison, Iowa and then moved to Stout, Iowa for a short
time. They then lived in Parkersburg until 1973 when they moved to Buck
Grove. Pauline moved back to Parkersburg in 1981 after Robert died in
1980. Pauline was a homemaker and she put her life into raising her five
children. She loved the time spent with her family. In her spare time,
she liked to go to Meskwaki and support the Green Bay Packers and
Chicago Cubs. She very much enjoyed a drive through the countryside
looking for deer and wildlife. She loved the outdoors and a chance to go
fishing. Pauline died Friday, March 2, 2007, at the Waverly Health Care
Center, Waverly, Iowa of cancer. She was preceded in death by her
husband, Robert; her parents; one grandson, Joseph “Joey” Whiteside;
three brothers, John, Abbo and Arnold Adelmund; and three sisters,
Lillian Dingel, Mildred Adelmund and Lena Adelmund. Pauline is survived
by four sons, Steve (Betty) Adelmund, Parkersburg, Iowa, Dennis “Fritz”
(Carol) Adelmund, Marshalltown, Iowa, Gary (Colleen) Adelmund,
Parkersburg, Iowa, Rick (Jolie) Adelmund, St. Joseph, Missouri; one
daughter, Diane (Glenn) Whiteside, Clarksville, Iowa; 13 grandchildren
and seven great-grandchildren; five sisters, Ella (Raymond) Vandeventer,
Charles City, Iowa, Harmmean Smith, Morrison, Iowa, Lena (Gary) Nieman,
Waterloo, Iowa, Frieda Dow, Palmira, Missouri and Nancy (Marty) Vahlkamp,
Quincy, Illinois. Funeral Services were held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday,
March 6, 2007, at the Parkersburg United Methodist Church in
Parkersburg, Iowa with Pastor Bill VanWey officiating. Organist was
.Marvin Boelman Vocalist Lorie Barber sang “Amazing Grace” and “I Can
Only Imagine”. Congregational Hymns were “The Old Rugged Cross” and “On
Eagle’s Wings”. Casketbearers were Mike Graham, Neil Meester, Matt
Adelmund, Paul Adelmund, Bobby Whiteside, Joe Sievers, Chuck Anderson
and Justin Bruce. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Parkersburg, Iowa
with Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home, Parkersburg in charge of

Funeral services for Charles William Steere, 61, of 13801 Marsh Ave.,
Greene will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 3, 2007, at St. Peter Lutheran
Church , 324 East Traer Street, Greene with Pastor Gary Hatcher
officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Greene.
Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Friday, March 2, 2007, at St. Peter Lutheran
Church, Greene. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services on
Saturday. Charles William Steere was born June 14, 1945, on the family
farm, Coldwater Township, Butler Co., a son of William and Mildred
(Rover) Steere, Jr. and died surrounded by his loving family on Friday,
February 23, 2007 after a courageious battle with cance. He received his
education at the Coldwater Country School No6 and graduated from Greene
High School in 1963. After graduation, Charles joined the family farm
operation near Greene. He was inducted to the armed forces on September
1, 1965.serving in the Second Battalion 61st. Infantry Fifth United
States Army. Charles was stationed stateside from 1965-1967 during the
Vietnam Conflict earning the rank of SGT. He was station at Fort Collins
in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and served as a chef. He was discharged ,
August 31,1967 and returned to farming. Throughout Charles’ Career as a
farmer, he never lost sight of the principles of farming and stewardship
that he was taught by his father and grandfather. He was precise and
meticulous in the way he farmed, raised his livestock, and maintained
his property. Charles enjoyed attending livestock auctions and shows. He
especially enjoyed raising registered Suffolk Sheep and selling and
showing them throughout the United States. He took pride in landscaping
and maintaining the family farm. Charles was a loving and devoted uncle
who treasured time spent with his nieces and nephews. He took pleasure
in attending their activities. Charles especially enjoyed attending
basketball games. His nieces and nephews brought him great joy. He was
baptized on July 1, 1945 and confirmed on March 22, 1959 at St. Peter’;s
Lutheran Church, in Greene. He was a faithful member of St. Peter
Lutheran Church and served on the church council. Charles was a member
of : the American Legion, Iowa Suffolk Association, United Sheep
Association, Iowa Cattlemen’s Association, Butler County Pork Producers,
and Farm Bureau. Charles was a sponsor for the Junior Suffolk
Association and Pheasants Forever. He was a devoted son, brother and
uncle. Charles was well respected by everyone wo knew him and a friend
to all. Living family members include his loving mother, Mildred Steere
of Greene; four sisters: Marlys )Jim) Nixt of Greene, Marilyn Steere of
Waverly, Marcia (Bruce) Trey of Scottsdale, AZ, and Peg (Dennis) Griffin
of Greene; sister-in-law, Deb Steere of Allison; 10 nieces and nephews:
Amy Nixt of Greene, Anthony (DeAnn) Nixt of Waverly, Renee (Mike) Salge
of Greene, Becky (Adam) Anderson of Garner, Brett (Lisa) Steere of
Allison, Mark Nixt of Greene, Jill (Mark) Lamborn of Luana, Tyler
Griffin of Cedar Falls, Ben Trey of Scottsdale, AZ and Clint Griffin of
Greene; and treasured great nieces and nephews: Taylor, Kaleb, and Brynn
Salge, Clay and Wyatt Anderson, Braydan Steere, and Brock, Blake, and
Avery Lamborn and one on the way; special friends Larry and Alice Schwab
of Allison; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Charles was preceded
in death by his father, William Steere, Jr., brother, Harlan Steere, and
