Memorial Services for Lillian M. “Toodles” Sult, 76, of Marble Rock, were held Monday, January 29, 2007, at the Walter F. Bohl Community Center, Marble Rock, with Pastor Steve Petroelje officiating. Inurnment at the Hillside Cemetery in Marble Rock. Lillian Marianne “Toodles” Sult was born North of Marble Rock, Union Township, Floyd County, the only daughter of Earl Henry “Ben” and Margaret Elizabeth (Luther) Thieman, and passed away Thursday, January 25, 2007, at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa, Mason City. She received her education in the Marble Rock Public Schools graduating in 1947. On November 25, 1948 she was united in marriage to Weldon Fox Sult at the United Methodist Church in Marble Rock. They lived in Des Moines while he attended barber school and she was employed as a candy girl at a movie theater. Following his graduation they returned to Marble Rock where they enjoyed 58 years together. Toodles’ family was her number one priority. She actively supported her family in their activities and always said “That she and Weldon were the most fortunate people to have such wonderful grandkids “ They will remember her for the many things she has provided, especially her cooking, and the memories of the flavors, smells, and warmth from her kitchen. She loved entertaining, singing, dancing, and playing cards She was actively involved in the life of the Marble Rock Community touching generations of lives. She was a bus driver for the Rudd Rockford Marble Rock Community School District for 38 years. She was a charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 387, UMW, Floyd County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Unit, Charles City Women of the Moose, Monday, Wednesday Bridge Club, various bowling teams, former member of the Mason City Sweet Adeline’s for over 20 years, and a current member of the Heartland Harmony for the past five years. Living family members include her loving husband of 58 years, Weldon of Marble Rock, a daughter Nancy (Larry) Glubka of Eugene Oregon; two sons: Joel (Rosemary) Sult of Allison, Jon (Rhonda) Sult of Marble Rock; seven grandchildren: Kelly Sult, Casey Sult, Adam and Kara Halford, Jordan Glubka, Dustin Sult, Dena Sult, and Lilly Ann Glubka. Extended family members include her sister-in-law, Carol Thieman of Marble Rock, two nieces: Jennifer Thieman and Penny Thieman, and one nephew: Ryan “Ben” (Kellie)Thieman. Toodles was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, William Thieman. LEERHOFF

Harland Leerhoff, age 79, of Clarksville, Iowa, was born June 16, 1927, on his parents’ farm south of Clarksville in Jefferson Township, Butler County, Iowa, the son of Seiger and Anna (Freese) Leerhoff. He was baptized October 16, 1927, and confirmed April 18, 1943, both at St. John Lutheran Church, Clarksville, Iowa. He received his education in country schools near his home. Harland was united in marriage with Marjorie Ann Kimball on July 20, 1947, in St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, Readlyn, Iowa. They made their home north of Clarksville where together they started farming and enjoyed farming for many years. Harland truly loved the land and all that farming involved, including working on machinery and caring for animals. His family has said that if you looked up the word “farmer” you might find his name. Harland was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church in Clarksville, where he served as Chairman of the Church Council. He had served on the Board of Farmers Home Administration in Butler County. Harland loved his horses and was a member of the Nashua Trail Riders. His family was very special to him, and he was proud of each of them. He enjoyed helping people whenever he could. Harland died Tuesday, January 23, 2007, at Community Nursing Home in Clarksville, of natural causes. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers-in-law, Orville Nordman and Delbert Arends. Harland is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marjorie Leerhoff, Clarksville, Iowa; four sons, Eugene (Marcella) Leerhoff, Greene, Iowa, James (Sharon) Leerhoff, Clarksville, Iowa, Ron (Sheila) Leerhoff, Plainfield, Iowa and Jeff (Terri) Leerhoff, Linden, Iowa; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and one sister, Marvel Arends, Clarksville, Iowa. Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 27, 2007, at St. John Lutheran Church, Clarksville, Iowa with Pastor David Nelson officiating. Organist was Lois Roose. Congregational Hymns were “I Was There to Hear Your Borning Cry”, “Blessed Be the Tie That Binds” and “How Great Thou Art”. Casketbearers were Kurt Leerhoff, Kevin Leerhoff, Nathan Leerhoff, Nick Leerhoff, Jared Nauman and Justin Nauman. Honorary Casketbearers were Kelli Nauman, Kimberly Jenison, Danielle Niedert, Nicole Connick, Pamela Leerhoff, Bill Schrage and Genevieve Schrage. Flower Committee was Clayton and Janice Kampman and Chuck and Joyce Bochmann. Burial was in Lynwood Cemetery, Clarksville, Iowa. VAN HAUEN

Johanna Van Hauen - Koefoed, age100, of Aplington, Iowa, was born August 11, 1906, the daughter of Joe and Freeda Johnson Schrage near Clarksville in Butler County, Iowa. She was baptized 1906 and was later confirmed in 1921 at the St. John Lutheran Church in Clarksville. She received her education in a school near her home. Hannah was united in marriage with John Van Hauen on March 30, 1927, in her parent’s home. The couple made their home in Parkersburg. John died May, 1951. Hannah married Ed Koefoed December 22, 1952. Ed died in 1957. Hannah worked as a hired girl for seven years before her marriage. Beginning in 1951, she worked at Clay Equipment. Later she operated a restaurant in Grundy Center for 20 years, where senior citizens made her restaurant their home away from home. She was a cook at the Beverly Manor for two years prior to her retirement. Hannah was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church. She was very active in community service, being involved especially with Hawkeye Valley Area Agency on Aging, which honored her for her efforts. She was instrumental in starting the Senior Citizen Nutrition Site in Parkersburg and was a regular volunteer there. Hannah was a member of the Area Advisory Council and President of the Butler County Council on Aging. She had a real compassion for the elderly and in her concern for them, she often forgot herself. She enjoyed bingo, crocheting and sewing in her spare time. Most of all she loved being with her grandchildren. Hannah died Sunday, January 21, 2007, at Maple Manor Care Center in Aplington, Iowa, of natural causes. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, John Van Hauen and Ed Koefoed; one son, Raymond Van Hauen; two brothers, Abel and Henry Schrage; five sisters, Elizabeth Mennga, Lena Lubben, Tena Pickering, Freeda Knock and Anna Garbes. Hannah is survived by her son, Lawrence (Mary) Van Hauen, Waterloo, Iowa; seven grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, Larry (Denise) Van Hauen, Tim (Debra) Van Hauen, Jon Van Hauen, Allen (Kristy) Van Hauen, Tana (Jay) Pieters, Chad (Melissa) Van Hauen and Nanci Henningsen; two great-great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Wilma Schrage, Shell Rock, Iowa and one daughter-in-law, Judy Crosser, Grundy Center, Iowa. Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 24, 2007 at Bethel Lutheran Church, Parkersburg, Iowa with Pastor Paul Schaedig officiating. Organist was Janet Mennen. Vocalist Terry Schrage sang “One Day at a Time” and “How Great Thou Art”. Congregational Hymns were “Precious Lord, Take My Hand” and “You Who Dwell in the Shelter of the Lord” On Eagles Wings. Casketbearers were Larry Van Hauen, Tim Van Hauen, Jon Van Hauen, Allen Van Hauen, Chad Van Hauen and Dennis Knock. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Parkersburg, Iowa. Kathryn P. Card, age 83, of Parkersburg, Iowa, was born the daughter of Harm and Pauline Lena (Reints) Bronsema on March 8, 1923, on her parents’ farm near Parkersburg, Iowa. She received her education and graduated from the Parkersburg High School in 1942. Kathryn was united in marriage with Vernon Card in 1950 at the First Congregational Church in Parkersburg, Iowa. They made their home east of Parkersburg on a farm near Sinclair. Kathryn was a hard working farm wife. Through the years she also worked at Clay Equipment for a couple of years and did seasonal work at Asgrow Seed Company. Kathryn has always lived on their farm until this past November when she moved to the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in the Long term Care in Grundy Center, Iowa. Kathryn was an active member of the First Congregational Church, where she had taught Sunday School, Bible School, Ladies Guild and had volunteered in numerous other ways. She enjoyed gardening, where she raised many vegetables and loved her flowers. She liked to go play bingo in New Hartford. She also had her own loom and made many rugs. Kathryn died Thursday, February 1, 2007, at Grundy County Hospital Long Term Care in Grundy Center, Iowa, from natural causes. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Card on September 27, 1986; a son, Mitch Card in 1967; her parents; two sisters, Angaline in infancy and Johanna Kadous; and three brothers, Edo, Bruno and Jack Bronsema. Kathryn is survived by one son, Mike (Leona) Card of Parkersburg, Iowa; six step-grandchildren; 17 step-great grandchildren; and two step-great great grandchildren. Funeral Services were held at1:30 p.m., Tuesday, February 6, 2007, at the First Congregational Church, Parkersburg, Iowa with Rev. Brad Zinnecker officiating. Organist was Mary Ann Simon. Memorial services for Helen J. Welch, 90, formerly of Marble Rock, were held Thursday, February 1, 2007, at Reid’s Funeral Chapel, in Marble Rock with Rev. Msgr. Walter Brunkan officiating. Inurnment will be in the Westside Cemetery at a later date. There was no visitation as cremation has been accorded. Helen J. Nixt was born March 17, 1916 in the home that she lived her entire life, in Union Township, Floyd Co., a daughter of Joseph and Emma (Nikolas) Nixt, and died Sunday, January 28, 2007 at the Allison Health Care Center, in Allison. She received her education and graduated from the Marble Rock Public Schools in 1933. As a young lady she was a housekeeper and seamstress for families in the Marble Rock area. She loved working in her large flower and vegetable garden. It’s been said that “if Helen couldn’t make it grow it was not meant to grow!” She will be remembered as a good cook. Living family members include her son, Larry (Shirley) Welch of Marble Rock, her granddaughter, Teresa (Steve) Wells of Marble Rock, and four great- grandchildren: Aaron Wells, Alyssa Wells, Anna Wells, Sadie Wells. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters: Dorothy Hayungs, Marion “Pinky” Smith, Virginia Kolbet; two brothers: Frank Nixt and Leo Nixt. Funeral services for Thelma E. Starkweather, 87, formerly of Greene, were held Thursday, February 1, 2007, at Reid’s Funeral Chapel, in Greene, with Pastor Ashok Patet Officiating. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Greene. Thelma Eugene Starkweather was born January 16, 1920 near Powersville, Pleasant Grove Township, Floyd Co., a daughter of Edwin LeRoy and Clara Belle (Stepp) Starkweather and died Sunday, January 28, 2007 at the Liebe Care Center in Greene. She received her education in the Coldwater No 2 Country School and graduated from the Greene Public Schools in 1936. As a young lady she worked for Buchholz and Dralle Dept Store and later for the B & W Grocery Store in Greene. She was last employed by the First State Bank of Greene as a bank teller until her retirement in 1968. Thelma was a life long and faithful member of the United Methodist Church of Greene. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, going on bus trips, and family genealogy.. She is preceded in death by her parents, two sisters: Mae Cleone Starkweather, Irene Starkweather; and one brother: Clair Starkweather. Living family members include several nieces and nephews. Edgar Rhodes, 70, of Hampton, Iowa died on Friday, February 9, 2007 at the VA Medical Center in Knoxville, IA of natural causes. Edgar was born on July 13, 1936, to Robert and Mary (Morris) Rhodes of Colbert County, Alabama. He served in the Korean War in the United States Army. On August 4, 1961 he was united in marriage to Sandra Leerhoff in Iuka, Mississippi. He was a truck driver. Edgar loved spending time with his grandchildren, and he enjoyed fishing and cooking. He also co-piloted a tractor-trailer with his son James for the last 8 years. He loved to tell jokes, some were funny and some were not, but that never stopped him. He is survived by three daughters Rebecca Hosni, and Nancy Rhodes of Hampton and Susan Olmstead of Lake Mills, IA; a son James Rhodes of Hampton; and eight grand-children. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Sandra on June 26, 2004. Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.


MJONESS

Tena D. Mjoness was born on January 8, 1908 in Lyon County, Iowa, the daughter of Daniel and Agnes (Buss) Meester and departed this life February 2, 2007. Tena Meester was united in marriage to Willie Floy Vance of Clarksville, Iowa, and four children were born to this union. They were later divorced. Tena later married John Johnson of Shell Rock, Iowa. They farmed near Shell Rock and Tena was a mother to his five step-children, as well as the four children born to this union. Her husband passed away when their four children were very young and she was left to raise them alone. She returned to Rock Rapids and sought the help of her family to raise her young children, but later returned to Clarksville, Iowa, with her children and was employed by the Garrison Produce as an egg candler. Tena later moved to Huxley to be near her sister, Christina, and brother, Harold, and was employed as a cook at Gamma Phi Beta, Iowa State University. She met and married Palmer Mjoness of Slater, Iowa, an employee of Iowa State University, in 1962. Palmer Mjoness passed away in 1972. Tena enjoyed crocheting, sewing and craft projects. Her sweet smile and gentle ways will be missed by all who knew her. Services were conducted by Pastor Emily Allen at the Slater United Methodist Church on Wednesday, February 7, 2007, at 1:30 p.m. Organist was Helen Hueven and soloist Vickie Johnson Duffy, daughter of Nathan and Jan Johnson, (granddaughter) and music instructor at Knoxville, Iowa, sang three hymns chosen by Tena - Nearer My God To Thee, Under His Wings, and Jesus Keep Me Near The Cross. Scott Hamilton, son of Betty and Wayne Hamilton, wrote and read a poem entitled “Rejoice.” Wayne Hamilton, son-in-law of Tena, read scripture, I Corinthians, Chapter 13, the Love Chapter, her favorite. Ken Vance, the eldest son, and Sally Johnson Sawhill, the youngest daughter, and a niece, delivered eulogies in praise of their mother. Survivors include eight children: Kenneth (La Vonne) Vance of Clarksville, Iowa; Daniel (Florence) Vance of Newton, Francis (Darlene) Vance of Clarksville, Thomas (Edna) Vance of Apache Junction, Arizona, Betty (Wayne) Hamilton of Ankeny, Jerry (Marilyn) Johnson of Milaca, Minnesota; Nathan (Janice) Johnson of Waverly, and Sally (Dale) Sawhill of Ankeny; four step-children: Virgil Johnson of Waverly, Kenneth (Donna) Johnson of Waverly, Gilbert (June) Johnson of Cedar Falls, and Esther (Don) Christensen of California; one brother, Harold Meester of Huxley; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Russell Vance, Frankie Vance, Tom Vance, Jr., Brett Johnson, Jason Johnson, Keith Sawhill, and Scott Hamilton, all of whom were the eldest son of her children. Relatives from California, Arizona, Texas, Minnesota and Iowa were in attendance. Lunch was served by the Slater United Methodist Women’s Society. Tena was laid to rest with her husband, Palmer Mjoness in the Slater Cemetery. Soderstrom Funeral Homes of Roland, Slater and Story City, Iowa, was in charge of services.

Floyd “Buddy” William Card, age 44, of Dumont Wellness Center, Dumont, Iowa, formerly of Parkersburg, Iowa, was born the son of Clarence “Bud” A. and Gloria Grace (Hersey) Card on August 15, 1962, at the Waverly Hospital, Waverly, Iowa. He received his education at the Woodward State Hospital. Through the years Floyd lived at the Woodward State Hospital, the Harmony House in Waterloo and then moved to the Dumont Wellness Center in Dumont. As a young boy he attended the First Baptist Church in New Hartford, Iowa. His favorite times were playing with rubber balls and stuffed toys. Floyd died Sunday, February 11, 2007, at the Dumont Wellness Center, Dumont, Iowa, of natural causes. He was preceded in death by his Father, Clarence “Bud” on December 17, 1998. Floyd is survived by his Mother, Gloria Card of Marshalltown, Iowa; and three brothers, John (LaVonne) Card of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Allen Card of Austinville, Iowa and Paul Card of Marshalltown, Iowa. Funeral Services were held 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at the Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in Parkersburg with Rev. Ben Epley of the First Baptist Church, New Hartford officiating. RHODES

Edgar (Ed) Rhodes, age 70, of Hampton, Iowa, was born July 13,1936, the son of Robert Edgar and Mary Louis (Morris) Rhodes in Sheffield, Alabama. Ed was united in marriage to Sandra Kay Leerhoff on August 4th, 1963 in Iuke, Mississippi. The couple eventually made their home in Hampton, Iowa in 1978. Edgar was a veteran of the Korean War thru the United States Army. He was a great patriot and supported the armed forces and the veterans. Ed was also fond of his life on the open road. He loved getting into the cab of his truck and taking off driving across America. He really enjoyed doing this in his later years because this was something he could experience with is son, James. Most important to Ed was his family. Not only was he a devoted father to his children, but he also had a hand in raising all six of his grandchildren. He especially had a tenderness for the little ones. He would always say that his grandchildren weren’t spoiled, they all smelled that way. Ed died Friday, February 9th, 2007, at the rehabilitation center in Knoxville, Iowa of complications from a stroke. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Sandra Rhodes, June, 2004; a brother Johnny Chaney and a sister Betty Ann Chaney. He is survived by his children, one son James Rhodes, Hampton, Iowa; three daughters, Rebecca (Ahmed) Hosny, Hampton, Iowa ; Susan Olmstead, Lake Mills, Iowa, and Nancy Rhodes, Hampton, Iowa; and six grandchildren, Mike and Josh Schipper, and Lisa, Angie, Christopher and Chance Rhodes and one brother, William Chaney, Muscle Shoals, Alabama; and two sisters Virginia Chaney, Muscle Shoals, Alabama and Estelle Chaney, Muscle Shoals, Alabama. He is also survived by one brother-in-law Paul (Lucille) Leerhoff, Clarksville, Iowa. A time of remembrance will be Saturday, February 17, 2007, 3:00-6:00 p.m. at Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home, Hampton, Iowa. Burial of cremains at a later date in Lowell Cemetery, rural Clarksville, Iowa.

Bill Crane, age 76, of Clarksville, Iowa, was born August 7, 1930, the son of Clifford and Amy Merfeld Crane in his parent’s home in Greene, Iowa. He received his education in the Greene and Marble Rock schools. Bill was united in marriage with Barbara J. Hute on June 10, 1950, in the Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa. Following their marriage they made their home in Newton, Iowa and other towns while Bill was employed with electrical construction and worked out of Union 55 of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. In 1957 they moved to Clarksville, being employed by Iowa Public Service, later named Mid American Energy, retiring after 32 years. He was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ in Clarksville where he was on the Dart Ball team. Bill was always helping someone and did a lot of volunteering through the Hawkeye Valley Agency on Aging where he delivered meals. He also took people to their doctor appointments when needed. He was a member of the Clarksville volunteer ambulance service; a 39 year member of the Independent Order of the Odd Fellows and a 57 year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. After retirement he enjoyed fishing trips with friends, spending time with family and always enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He and Barb took short trips and enjoyed going out for drives through the countryside. He always enjoyed the dart ball games at church and attending the Odd Fellows Lodge. He became ill February, 2006 with lung cancer. Bill died Wednesday, February 14, 2007, at Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, Iowa, of lung cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Pam Hansen; one son in infancy, Patrick Michael; one grandson, Blake Wehrhan, and one sister in infancy, Phyllis Jean Crane. Bill is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara Crane, Clarksville, Iowa; one son, Steve (Cindy) Crane, Clarksville, Iowa; three daughters, Sandy (Bill) Rustad, Waverly, Iowa; Brenda (Al) Worrell, Janesville, Iowa and Janice (Rick) Wehrhan, Allison, Iowa; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 17, 2007 Immanuel United Church of Christ, in Clarksville, Iowa with Pastor Bob Gaston officiating. Organist was Sharon Leerhoff. Vocalist Joleen Engel sang “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere” and “There’s Holes in the Floor of Heaven”. Congregational Hymns were “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art”. Honorary Casketbearers were his granddaughters, Shani Homeister, Jessi Stoffregen Toni Engel and Billie Wehrhan. Casketbearers were his grandsons Steve Franke, Zach Crane, Brady Wehrhan, Dan Rustad, Chris Rustad, Lee Homeister, Chad Stoffregen and Kris Engel. Burial was in Lynwood Cemetery, Clarksville, Iowa. He was a member of the Clarksville volunteer ambulance service; a 39 year member of the Independent Order of the Odd Fellows and a 57 year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. After retirement he enjoyed fishing trips with friends, spending time with family and always enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He and Barb took short trips and enjoyed going out for drives through the countryside. He always enjoyed the dart ball games at church and attending the Odd Fellows Lodge. He became ill February, 2006 with lung cancer. Bill died Wednesday, February 14, 2007, at Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, Iowa, of lung cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Pam Hansen; one son in infancy, Patrick Michael; one grandson, Blake Wehrhan, and one sister in infancy, Phyllis Jean Crane. Bill is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara Crane, Clarksville, Iowa; one son, Steve (Cindy) Crane, Clarksville, Iowa; three daughters, Sandy (Bill) Rustad, Waverly, Iowa; Brenda (Al) Worrell, Janesville, Iowa and Janice (Rick) Wehrhan, Allison, Iowa; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 17, 2007 Immanuel United Church of Christ, in Clarksville, Iowa with Pastor Bob Gaston officiating. Organist was Sharon Leerhoff. Vocalist Joleen Engel sang “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere” and “There’s Holes in the Floor of Heaven”. Congregational Hymns were “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art”. Honorary Casketbearers were his granddaughters, Shani Homeister, Jessi Stoffregen Toni Engel and Billie Wehrhan. Casketbearers were his grandsons Steve Franke, Zach Crane, Brady Wehrhan, Dan Rustad, Chris Rustad, Lee Homeister, Chad Stoffregen and Kris Engel. Burial was in Lynwood Cemetery, Clarksville, Iowa. Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home, Clarksville was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Helena Eilderts, age 81, of Aplington, Iowa, was born March 21, 1925 in Aplington, Iowa, the daughter of Andrew and Lena Johnson Schipper. She received her education in Ripley Township School No. 8. Helena was united in marriage with Steno T. Eilderts on February 28, 1947 in the bride’s home. The couple lived in Aplington all their married life. She was a member of First Reformed Church in Aplington where she was a member of Ruth Circle and participated in other church activities. Helena was a homemaker who enjoyed growing her flowers and vegetables. She enjoyed family travel, especially the trips across the country with their camper. She very much enjoyed music and had the ability to play piano by ear. The Schipper family always enjoyed making music together. Helena died Saturday, February 17, 2007, at her home in Aplington of natural causes. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Steno on October 6, 2002; one grandson, Jeremy Nulton; four brothers, Andrew, George, John and Henry Schipper and one sister, Anna Marks. Helena is survived by three daughters, Joan Nulton, Arlington Heights, Illinois; Judy Sagendorf, McHenry, Illinois and Janet (Bob) Pesicka, Johnston, Iowa; three grandchildren, Greg and Mark Pesicka and Nancy (Eric) Olsen; and two great-grandchildren, Skyler and Zachary Olsen and one expected any day; three sisters, Kate Aalderks, Kesley, Iowa; Grace (Donald) Huisman, Wellsbug, Iowa, and Hattie (Edwin) Behrends, Wellsburg, Iowa; three brothers, Harvey (Esther) Schipper, Aplington, Iowa, Paul (Irma) Schipper, Parkersburg, Iowa, and Lee (Dorothy) Schipper, Aplington, Iowa; and three sisters-in-law, Alberta Schipper, Parkersburg, Iowa, Jennie Schipper and Effie Schipper both of Aplington, Iowa. Funeral Services were 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, February 21, 2007, First Reformed Church, Aplington, Iowa with Pastor Harlan DeJong officiating. Organist was Lois Wessels. Vocalist Randy Aalderks sang “O What a Savior” and “How Great Thou Art”. Congregational Hymns were “He Hideth My Soul”. “Walking In Sunlight All of My Journey” and “Oh That Will Be Glory for Me”. Casketbearers were Jerald Eilderts, Verlyn Schipper, Dean Huisman, Daryl Folken Bryan Schipper and Glenn Behrends. Burial was in Pleasant View Cemetery, Aplington, Iowa. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday at the Faith Baptist Church in Hampton with burial in the St. Peters Church Cemetery rural Geneva, Iowa. Officiating will be Bruce Collins, Alan Christopherson, Robert Orr. Visitation will be Monday from 3:30 - 8:00 P.M. at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton. Betty Lou Swieter, 75, of Geneva, Iowa, passed away at the Franklin General Hospital Care Facility on February 17, 2007. Betty was born April 25, 1931, in Butler County to Paul and Maxine (Dye) Ayers. Betty was born again on August 16, 1947. She graduated from Aplington High School in Aplington, Iowa. Betty married Carl Swieter on February 26, 1951, in Aplington, Iowa. To this union were born two children, Carla and Dennis. Carl passed away on October 29, 1956. She then married LaVerne Swieter on March 3, 1961, in Aplington, Iowa. To this union was born one son, Donald. Betty was a homemaker and farm wife. She worked beside her husband and sons with the livestock and also the fieldwork. For the past five years, Betty would sing and entertain the residents of nursing homes and retirement homes. She enjoyed sharing her love of music with others. Betty is survived by her husband, LaVerne of Geneva, Iowa, a daughter Carla (Robert) Ramey of Coralville, Iowa, and sons Dennis (Connie) Swieter of Hampton, Iowa, and Donald (Colette) Swieter, Iowa Falls: eight grandchildren: Cory (Becky) Ramey, Kristina and Chelsea Ramey, Mike (Mindy) Swieter, Michelle Swieter, Isaac, Annette and Brent Swieter and seven great-grandchildren, brothers Robert & wife Darlene Ayers of Dumont, Iowa, Kenneth & wife Sheryl Ayers of Bristow, Iowa, sister Sharon & husband Wayne Folken of Waterloo, Iowa. Betty was preceded in death by: First husband, Carl Swieter, her Father: Paul Ayers, Mother: Maxine Ayers, and one brother, Marvin Ayers.
