John Junior McQuatters

May 14, 2008

John Junior McQuatters, 86, of Plymouth, died on Monday, May 5, 2008, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, at the Plymouth United Methodist Church, with Pastor Jim Turner and Pastor Paul Schaefer of the Plymouth Bible Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be in the Sunset Rest Cemetery, Northwood. Full military rites will be conducted by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services Thursday at the church. Memorials may be given to Hospice of North Iowa.

Valetta Anderson

May 14, 2008

Valetta Isabelle Thomas Anderson, age 91, of Northwood, died on Friday, May 9, at the Muse Norris Hospice inpatient unit Mason City, Iowa.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, May 13, at the Deer Creek Lutheran Church, Carpenter, with Reverend Lance Kittleson officiating. Burial took place in the Deer Creek Lutheran cemetery in Carpenter. Visitation was on Monday, May 12, from 6-8:00 p.m., at the Schroeder and Sites Funeral Home, Northwood. Visitation continued one hour prior to the services on Tuesday, at the Deer Creek Lutheran Church.

Valetta Isabelle (Thomas) Anderson, was born to Fay and Gertrude Thomas on July 23, 1916 in Worth County, Iowa. She graduated from the Carpenter High School in 1934. She went to cosmetology school after high school and worked in a shop in Windom, Minnesota, before her marriage to Gilbert O. Anderson on March 16, 1942. They were blessed with four children, Eugene, Mary, Sharon and Thomas.

Valetta was a lady of many talents! Her family had all haircuts and perms completed in the family kitchen. She was very active in the Deer Creek Lutheran Church through Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and circle activities. She loved to sew and used that talent to make the family clothing for all the special occasions. After staying home and raising her family she worked with a friend redecorating apartments.

Valetta can be remembered as a caretaker of many. When she wasn’t caring for her family she branched out and cared for others who needed special attention and in her later years began working at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood. Her generosity was evident even to the end as she continued to make quilts for Lutheran World Relief.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fay and Gertrude Thomas; husband of 58 years, Gilbert; and brothers, Leland, Clayton and Orville Thomas.

She is survived by her loving family, Eugene Anderson of Carpenter, Mary (Wilmer) Bachman of West Bend, Sharon (Bill) Sloss of Stuart and Thomas (Linda) Anderson of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota; grandchildren, Abigail Sloss of Chicago, Illinois, Grant Sloss of Los Angeles, California and Clinton Sloss of Ames; foster grandchildren, Thomas Fisher III of Beijing, China and Michael Fisher of West Bend, Iowa.

Luella G. Low

May 22, 2008

Luella G. Low, 97, of Fertile, Iowa, died on Thursday, May 15, 2008, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services were held on Monday, May 19, at 10:30 a.m., at the Church of Christ, Fertile, with Dan Miller and Rev. Dennis Ganz officiating. Visitation was on Sunday, from 4–7:00 p.m., at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake and one hour preceding the services at the church. Interment was in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Luella was born on January 24, 1911 in Glenville (Freeborn County), Minnesota, the daughter of William and Minnie (Perkins) Freeman. They moved to Northwood when she was two years old. When Luella was five years old they moved to Glenville, Minnesota. She attended school in Glenville and Albert Lea, Minnesota. On June 16, 1928 she was united in marriage to Clarence Low of rural Glenville.

Luella and her husband farmed in Glenville, Northwood, Manly and Fertile. In 1978 they moved to a farm at Fertile. For the past five years she has been living at the Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake, where she enjoyed playing cards.

Survivors include her children, Clarence Low Jr. of Fertile, Beverly Smith and her husband, Ralph of McIntire, Donna Miller and her husband, Earl of Clear Lake and Eugene Low and his wife, Lois of Fertile; thirteen grandchildren, Christy Bredeson and her husband, Randy, Mike Ball and his wife, Sheila, Dan Miller and his wife, Penny, all of Fertile, Jeanette Oliver and her husband, Steve of Plano, Texas, Carole Haston of Edgewood, Texas, Derrick Gagon and his wife, Lori of Lakeville, Minnesota, LuAnn Paulson and her husband, Dick of Clear Lake, Arlyn Miller and his wife, Claudia of Cedar Park, Texas, Julie Siemonsma and her husband, Jerry of Ridgeway, Illinois, Kenneth Smith and his fiancée, Judy of Northwood, Joan Heinzerling and her husband, Bill of St. Charles, Illinois, Owen Smith and his wife, Chris of Craig, Iowa, Rita DeGroot and her husband, Dan of Clarinda, Iowa; 31 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren.

Luella was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; a son, Leonard (Buddy); her parents; four brothers, Milan, LeRoy, Perry and Mark; two sisters, Elsie and an infant sister; three grandsons, David Smith, Mark Smith and Mark Haston; and three great-grandchildren, Jesica Heinzerling, Stephen Oliver and Jacob Putney.

Todd Allen Brunsvold

May 29, 2008

Todd Allen Brunsvold, 44, of Northwood, died on Tuesday, May 20, 2008, at his home.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, May 23, at the First Lutheran Church, Northwood, with Rev. Daniel R. Hart of the First Lutheran Church, and Reverend Tom Martin of the Elk Creek Lutheran Church, and Bethany Lutheran Church in Kensett officiating. Burial was in the Elk Creek Lutheran Cemetery, rural Kensett. Visitation was held from 5-8:00 p.m., on Thursday, May 22, at the Conner Colonial Chapel, Northwood. Visitation was also held one hour prior to the service time on Friday at the church. The family of Todd Allen Brunsvold, has suggested that memorial contributions be made to the Elk Creek Lutheran Cemetery, or to the charity of ones choice in his memory.

Todd Allen Brunsvold, was born on October 19, 1963 in Albert Lea, Minnesota, the son of Donald A. and Margie D. (Reyerson) Brunsvold. Todd attended and received his education in the Northwood-Kensett Community School, graduated from the Northwood-Kensett High School in 1982. After completing his schooling, Todd, moved to San Diego, California and worked construction. Todd also worked for Richard Dahley (Midwest Cable Company) installing cable T.V. before forming his own cable company in 1997, named Iowa Communication Company installing cable throughout the Midwest. In May of 1998, Todd became the owner-operator of the Northwood Sanitation Company.

Todd enjoyed taking care of his lawn, snowmobiles, jet skiing, golfing, motorcycles, talking to friends, making deals and helping others. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Northwood.

Left to cherish his memory are his parents, Marge and David Tenold of Northwood; his grandmother, Dorothy Reyerson of Northwood; his brother, Mike Brunsvold of Northwood; his sister, Teresa Brunsvold of New York City, New York; his niece, Jadyn Brunsvold of New York City, New York; special friend, Dawn Knaack of Northwood; several aunts, uncles, cousins, and many, many special friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Brunsvold in June 1990; grandfather, Maurice Reyerson; grandparents, Sylvia and Albert Brunsvold; two uncles, Dale Moen, and Loren Hrubetz, and cousins.

Jon Steven Iverson

May 29, 2008

Jon Steven Iverson, 49 of rural Northwood, succumbed to cancer at sunrise, on Tuesday, May 27, 2008. A patient of Hospice of North Iowa, Jon died at his home surrounded by his family and pets.

Funeral services are pending per Conner Colonial Chapel, at the First Lutheran Church, Northwood, with burial to follow in the Silver Lake Lutheran Cemetery. A full obituary will be printed next week.
