Andrew
“Andy” Michael Oswald, 74, of Hanlontown, passed away on
Monday, March 3, 2008, at the Good Sheppard Center in Mason
City.
Memorial services were held on Tuesday, March 11, at 10:30
a.m., at the Fertile Lutheran Church, with Lay Pastor Dave
Halverson officiating. Visitation was one hour before the
services. Family suggest memorials to the Alzheimer's Unit
at the Mayo Clinic, Hospice of North Iowa, and the Fertile
Lutheran Church.
Andy was born on April 15, 1933 in Manly Iowa, to Leo James
Oswald and Genevieve Randall Oswald. He graduated in 1950
from the Mason City High School, then attended the Mason
City Junior College and Iowa State University in Ames. He
was drafted into the military in 1953 and served during the
Korean War and was discharged in 1955. He married Patricia
Legge on February 3, 1957, at the Methodist Church in
Klemme, Iowa.
Andy served on the North Iowa Fair Board, was a Director for
the Hancock County REC, a 4- H Leader in Cerro Gordo and
Worth Counties, and on the 4-H and Extension Council in
Cerro Gordo County, and he was on the Farm Bureau Board. He
was also a past President of the Worth County Cattlemen’s
Association, and was a Township Trustee of Bristol and
Fertile. Andy also served on the Council of Bethany Lutheran
of Joice, was on the Joice Betterment Committee, Brush Point
Cemetery Board, and was part of the Pleasant Ridge Club and
Rural Young People Club.
Andy farmed for 60 years and owned and operated the Century
farm of his grandparents. Andy was a gentle man, with a
wonderful sense of humor and was a devoted father and
husband and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Oswald of Hanlontown;
daughter, Annette (Rolly) O’Donnell of Joice; son, Randall
(Patti) Oswald of Joice; grandchildren, Andrew Mason Oswald,
Ashley O’Donnell, Josi (Seth) Thompson and Cody Askvig; a
great-grandchild to be, Baby Thompson in May 2008; sister,
Sara (John) Innes of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and many nieces
and nephews.
Andy was preceded in death by his parents; father and
mother-in-law, George and Edna Legge; and brother- in-law,
James Legge and his wife.

William David Olive

David Olive, 84, former Northwood resident, of Aurora,
Nebraska, died on Monday, March 3, 2008, in Aurora.
Funeral services were held on Monday, March 10, at the
Presbyterian United Church of Christ in Aurora.
William was born on August 3, 1924, he was the son of Jess
Charles and Ethel Fay (Stanfield) Olive, in San Jose,
California. He grew-up in Fremont, Iowa, where he graduated
from high school in 1941. He enlisted in the U. S. Navy in
1942 and served on a landing craft tank ship in the Pacific
theatre during WW II. He was awarded several medals for his
service and was honorably discharged in April, 1946. He
married Roberta Jane (Stephenson) Olive in 1946 in Ottumwa,
Iowa and they observed their 61st wedding anniversary
November 24, 2007.
Bill attended Iowa Wesleyan College and the University of
Iowa until 1949 when he began his professional career as a
sales representative and sales manager. They lived in
Northwood for several years in the 1960's where he was
employed as a sales representative with Carroll George, Inc.
They later moved to Texas and then to Aurora in 1972 where
he established a drapery and soft goods manufacturing plant.
He traveled extensively throughout the Midwest and southwest
parts of the country.
Surviving him are his wife, "Bobby"; son, David in Tampa,
Florida and daughter, Jane Siebrass of Aurora, Nebraska;
along with two grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Clara Margaret Ethlin Kloose

Clara
Margaret Ethlin Kloose, 88, of Northwood, died on Tuesday,
March 4, 2008, at the Muse- Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in
Mason City.
Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m.,
on Saturday, March 8, at the Conner Colonial Chapel,
Northwood, with Reverend Randy Baldwin officiating. Burial
was in the Newberg Cemetery in Carpenter. Visitation was
held one hour prior to the service time on Saturday at the
chapel. The family of Clara Kloose has requested that
memorial contributions be made to the Mitchell County Care
Facility in Osage in her memory.
Clara Margaret Ethlin
Kloose was born on May 17, 1919, the daughter of Otto and
Emeila (Hanson) Kloose, on a farm west of Grafton. She was
baptized by Pastor Landdick at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church
in Grafton. She later moved with her family east of Lyle,
Minnesota. At the age of 15, she moved to Woodward, Iowa, and moved
to the Mitchell County Care Facility in Osage at the age of
40. When her health began to fail she moved to the Lutheran
Retirement Home in Northwood. Clara especially loved jewelry
and music.
Left to cherish her memory is her brother, Martin
(Shirley) Kloose of Sacramento, California; sister, Hazel Kloose
of the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood; and numerous
nieces, nephews, other extended family members and friends.
Those preceding her in death are her parents; three
brothers, Art, Carl and Rienold; and two sisters, Laura
Wright and Esther Gentz; and two brothers-in- laws, Walter
Wright and William Gentz.

Oscar Kelly

Kelly, 87, formerly of Northwood, died on Tuesday, March 11,
2008, at Willow Pointe Assisted Living in Mason City, Iowa.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., on Friday, March
14, at First Lutheran Church, in Northwood, Iowa with Rev.
Daniel Hart officiating. Visitation was held on March 13,
from 5-8:00 p.m., at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home,
Northwood, with a Masonic Service at 7:00 p.m., by the
Northern Light Lodge No. 266, A.F. & A.M. Burial was in the
Sunset Rest Cemetery, Northwood with Military Honors by VFW
Post #6779 Our Buddies Memorial.
Oscar Kelly was born on December 30, 1920 to Oscar Kelly,
Sr. and Edna Hazel (Lunsford) Kelly at Louisville, Kentucky.
He died at his home in Mason City, Iowa on March 11, 2008.
Oscar graduated from DuPont Manual Training High School in
1939. At a young age he began working as a printer,
operating his own print shop from his home while in high
school. Following graduation he worked as a printer and when
WW II began, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving in Hawaii
as an Aviation Machinist. Toward the end of the war he was
in flight training at Opa-Locka Naval Air Station near
Miami, Florida. While in a navy school at St. Olaf College,
Northfield, Minnesota he met Carol Ann Rone of Northwood,
Iowa. They were married July 7, 1945.
After the war, Oscar worked for many years as a printer and
farmer. He owned and operated several backhoes. He did a
variety of excavation work privately and for Worth County,
Iowa. Oscar operated a print shop from his home and worked
at numerous newspapers and job shops over the years,
including many years at the Des Moines Register. Oscar was a
founding member of Our Buddies Memorial Post 6779 in
Northwood, Iowa. He was a past Post Commander and also
served a term as State 3rd District Commander. Oscar was a
32nd degree Mason and a member of the Scottish rite and
Eastern Star. Musically he played the base drum and
throughout his life was an accomplished harmonica player. He
especially enjoyed playing the songs of Stephen Foster. He
was fond of the author Robert W. Service and could recite
several of his poetic ballads from memory. Oscar had a quick
wit and could often make you laugh with his philosophical
statements.
Proud to be his family are his sister, Eleanor Sammons of
Louisville, Kentucky; daughters, Hazel (Bob) Claney of
Bonham, Texas, Ellen Montgomery (Steve Olson) of Mason City;
sons, Ronald Kelly of Newton, Iowa, David (Sue) Kelly of
Anchorage, Alaska, Oscar Rone (Jocee) Kelly, Mason City;
daughters, Debra Greene of Lenoir, North Carolona, Carol
Marie Kelly (Ann Hanes) of Mason City, Rebecca (Kenneth)
Parcher of Northwood. Oscar has 17 grandchildren; 17
great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Oscar was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carol Ann;
brother, Col. Ferdinand Kelly; three sons, Robert, Darrel,
Steven and son-in-law Doug Greene.
