James
Franklin Nutt, age 73, of Albert Lea, died on Monday, June
2, 2008, at the Albert Lea Medical Center.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., on Thursday, June
5, at the Assemblies of God. Rev. Lee Freshour officiated.
Visitation was on Wednesday, from 5–7:00 p.m., at the
Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home. Military Honors were accorded
by the Freeborn County Veterans organizations. Burial was in
the Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
James was born on July 27, 1934, to James Robert Nutt and
Hazel Grace Reeder (Mooney) in Pensacola, Florida. He grew
up in the Des Moines, Iowa, area where he attended school.
James served in the United States Air Force, after his
discharge, James was employed at Wilson and Co. for 27
years.
He was an active member of the Trades and Labor Union and a
member of the Assemblies of God in Albert Lea. James married
Carrie Johnson on December 14, 1985 at the Seventh Day
Adventist Church in Albert Lea, Minnesota. He loved riding
his lawnmower, snow blower and car.
Survivors include his wife, Carrie; sons, Patrick Nutt of
Melborne, Florida, Michael Nutt of Austin, Minnesota and
Steven Nutt of Mason City; brother, Wayne (Noreen) Nutt of
St. Louis, Missouri; sister, Sharon (Dean) Krafka of
Northwood; and several nieces and nephews.
James was preceded in death by his parents.

Evelyn
Teldora VonHagen, 89, of Northwood, died on Wednesday, June
11, 2008, at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason
City.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, June
16, at the Elk Creek Lutheran Church, Kensett, with Reverend
Tom Martin officiating. Burial was in the Elk Creek Lutheran
Cemetery, rural Kensett. Visitation was held from 4-7:00
p.m., on Sunday, at the Conner Colonial Chapel, Northwood.
Visitation was also held one hour prior to service time on
Monday at the church. The family of Evelyn VonHagen has
suggested that memorial contributions be made to the Elk
Creek Lutheran Church, or to the church cemetery in her
memory.
Evelyn Teldora (Johnson) VonHagen, was born on February 22,
1919 in Winnebago County, Iowa, near Leland, the daughter of
Oscar Alvin and Edna Annetta (Langerud) Johnson. She
attended and received her education in the rural Winnebago
country schools, and also attended the Forest City High
School. After completing her schooling Evelyn worked as the
hired girl for various families in their homes. She was
united in marriage to Lawrence Ryerson on December 31, 1940.
He preceded her in death on February 10, 1968.
In 1941, they purchased a farm south and west of Northwood
before moving to Kanawha, Iowa in 1946, where they continued
to farm. In 1950, they moved back to their farm in rural
Northwood. In the late 1950’s Evelyn began working for Mode
O’ Day in Mason City. Evelyn also worked for Deluxe Mfg. in
Lake Mills, and various nursing homes in the north Iowa
area.
She was united in marriage to Oliver VonHagen on February
24, 1974. He preceded her in death on February 27, 2005.
Evelyn enjoyed gardening, embroidering, crocheting, and was
a great dancer, but her greatest love and enjoyment was her
family and friends. She was a member of Elk Creek Lutheran
Church, ladies aid and church circle, taught Sunday School,
sang in the church choir, and was a member of the Eagles in
Albert Lea, Minnesota.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Dorothy (Terry)
Rose of Walker, Minnesota, Carolyn (Mike) Strub of
Ingleside, Illinois, Garald Ryerson of Northwood, Renae
Ryerson of Lake Mills, Sherry Benson of Albert Lea,
Minnesota, Kimberly Halvorson of Lake Mills and Leslie
Ryerson of Mason City; 20 grandchildren; 26
great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; a
brother, Larry (Sherry) Johnson of Lubbock, Texas; and
numerous nieces and nephews, many other extended family
members and friends.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands,
Lawrence Ryerson and Oliver VonHagen; two daughters, Lou Ann
and Janis; seven brothers, Wayne, Leonard, Orville, Norman,
Clifford, Kenneth, and Vernon Johnson; and two sisters,
Elaine Querry and Pearl Book.

Leone Mae
Friedrichsen

Leone Mae (Lee) Friedrichsen, 76, of Glenville, passed away
on Tuesday, June 24, 2008, after a long and courageous
battle with cancer.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, June
27, at the First Lutheran Church in Glenville. Rev. Gail
Klavetter officiated. Interment was in the Greenwood
Cemetery. Visitation was from 5-7:00 p.m., on Thursday, at
the First Lutheran Church and one hour prior to the service.
Leone was born on November 3, 1931, to Ralph and Edith Lee
near Moorhead, Iowa. She graduated from the Moorhead High
School. She graduated from Iowa's Teacher College in Cedar
Rapids, Iowa and taught upper elementary school for many
years in the Woodbine, Iowa area. She graduated from
Minnesota State Mankato. She was united in marriage to Fred
Friedrichsen on July 2, 1960 in Omaha, Nebraska.
She started a preschool in Glenville and taught there. In
addition she served as a member of the Board of Directors
for the Citizens State Bank of Glenville from 1969 to the
present. She also served for a number of years on the
Glenville Recreation Board and on the Glenville School
Board.
Lee's faith was extremely important to her. She was a
Christian who loved and trusted God. She also loved people.
Education was very important to her. She was very active and
treasured the time she spent with family and friends, be it
dining out or dancing with Fred, watching her children or
grandchildren's various activities, time spent visiting with
her siblings, girl friends, Mary Martha circle members,
Women of Today, etc. She enjoyed reading newspapers and
magazines, walking, sewing, baking and was always genuinely
interested in what you were doing. She will be greatly
missed by her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Edith
Lee; brothers-in-law, Nicholas Friedrichsen and Mike Wimer;
and brother-and sister-in-law, Harry and Caroline Schmidt.
She is survived by her best friend and loving husband, Fred,
whom she was married to for 47 years. They had four
children, Robin (Scott) Hanson, David Friedrichsen, Kim
(Mark) Cressy, Kent Friedrichsen and five grandchildren,
Zach, Sam and Jacob Hanson and Kate and Joe Cressy. She also
had five siblings, Wanda (Paul) Holman, Ralph Lee, Donita
Wimer, Juanita (Jay) Kauffman, Ronald (Sharon) Lee and
sister-in-law, Donna Friedrichsen, brother-in-law and
sister-in-law, Bernard and Myrna Friedrichsen,
brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ken and Donna Friedrichsen
and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family would like to thank the medical staff at Naeve
Hospital in Albert Lea, Mayo Clinic and St. Mary's Hospital
in Rochester and Largo Medical Center, Largo, Florida, for
their care. Memorials in lieu of flowers may be sent to
First Lutheran Church of Glenville or the charity of donor's
choice.

Thelma Inez Jorde

Thelma Inez Jorde, 96, of Kensett, Iowa, passed away on
Saturday morning, June 28, 2008, at the Manly Nursing and
Rehabilitation Center, Manly, Iowa.
A Celebration Service was held on Wednesday July 2, at 11:00
a.m., at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Manly, with Rev.
Linda Johnson Prestholt officiating. Interment was in the
Elk Creek Lutheran Church, rural Kensett. Visitation was
held on Tuesday, from 4-7:00 p.m., at the Bride Colonial
Chapel, Manly and then one hour before the services on
Wednesday, at the church. Family suggests memorials to
Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Waldorf College or a charity of
your choice.
Thelma was born on June 25, 1912 on a farm near Kensett, the
daughter of Knut and Randina (Foss) Gordon. She was baptized
and confirmed into the Lutheran Faith. She graduated from
the Kensett High School in 1931, where she developed her
many musical talents including singing in many operettas,
playing piano, organ, violin and flute. Although she was an
only child she was raised with three cousins, Elvin Orpen,
Cora Orpen Dahl and Raymond Brubak.
Thelma married Owen Arnold Jorde on June 6, 1933, at the
Bethany Lutheran Church, Kensett, Iowa. Thelma was a member
of the Worth County Women's Chorus and Church Choir. She was
also active in her Church, a member of a Circle and WELCA.
Thelma is also remembered for her "fancy work", crocheting
being her specialty.
She was a housewife and homemaker and many of her recipes
for Norwegian and American food have found their way into
the hearts, memories and cupboards of her loved ones. She
always had a high interest in politics.
Thelma is survived by a daughter, Arlene Jorde of Kensett; a
son, Travis Jorde and his wife, Shirley of Rochester,
Minnesota; two grandson, Weston Jorde of St. Paul, Minnesota
and David Jorde and his wife, Holly of Duluth, Minnesota;
and a special cousin, Raymond Brubak and his wife, Viola of
Kiester, Minnesota.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arnold;
and special cousins, Elvin Orpen and Cora Orpen Dahl.
