Marianne Holland Michel, 70, of Wilmette Illinois,
passed from this life on Wednesday, August 1, 2012,
after a courageous battle with cancer.
A celebration of her
life will be held with the family on September 2, (Greg
and Marianne’s 50th anniversary) in Wilmette, with a
scattering of her ashes at a later time. In lieu of
flowers, gifts can be made to the Marianne Michel
Holland Fund at the Chase Bank in Wilmette, Illinois.
Marianne was born to
Herbert and Mary Jane Holland on September 30, 1941, the
fourth of eight siblings in Leland, Iowa. She graduated
from the Forest City High School in 1959. She went on to
Iowa State University and earned a Bachelor’s of Science
Degree with Honors in Chemistry in 1962. On September 2,
1962, she married Gregory Alan Michel in Leland. This
union was blessed with three children, Jennifer Lynn,
Erick John and Benjamin Aaron. Marianne and Greg moved
numerous times over the first 15 years of their married
life and eventually returned to the family farm near
Story City in 1977. Marianne did research at the Ames
Lab, Penick & Ford, Washington University and Minnesota
Valley Testing Labs.
Marianne graduated
with a Juris Doctorate with Special Honors from The
University of Iowa College of Law in 1991 at the age of
49. She worked as a patent attorney for the Phillips
Petroleum Company, Chevron Corporation and Pioneer
Hi-Bred International.
Marianne and Greg were
avid travelers. Over the years, they traveled to all
seven continents. Upon retirement, they moved to
Wilmette to be close to the families of all three of
their children of which she was so proud.
Left to celebrate her
life are her husband, Greg; children, Jennifer and
husband, Kurt Lauer, Erick and wife, Christine (Burden),
Ben and wife, Bonnie (Broekemeier); seven grandchildren,
Elsa Anne, Greta Hope, Sadie Elizabeth, Jack Martin,
Duncan Boyd, Tallulah Permina and Lillian Alice, all of
Wilmette, Illinois; sisters, Rebecca Thompson, Martha
Olson and Diane Rickerl; brothers, Dave Holland, Jan
Holland and Daniel Holland; sister-in-law, Kay Anderson;
and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Marianne was preceded
in death by her parents, Herb and Mary Jane; an infant
sister, Susan; her in-laws, Martin and Berneice Michel;
and nephew, Tyler Anderson.

Dolores Ann Nelson
August 15, 2012
Dolores Ann Nelson, 83, of Forest City, died on Monday,
August 6, 2012, at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Forest
City.
A Funeral Mass was held at
10:30 a.m., on Friday, August 10, at the St. James Catholic
Church in Forest City, with Father Dennis Miller
officiating. Burial was in the St. James Catholic Cemetery
in Forest City. Visitation was held from 4-8:00 p.m., on
Thursday, August 9, with a Scripture Service held at 7:30
p.m. at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home in Forest City and
continued one hour prior to the services at the church.
Dolores was born on
September 30, 1928 in Lime Creek Township, to Clarence P.
and Alma H. (Mostrom) Heidenreich. Dolores attended catholic
school in Manly. She attended the Mercy School of Nursing in
Mason City and Sioux City, graduating in 1949. She was
united in marriage to Donald J. Nelson on October 22, 1949.
Dolores spent her early married life as a devoted wife and
mother. In 1973, she started back to work as a Registered
Nurse. She worked for Dr. Tom Mangan at the Forest City
Community Hospital and at the Good Samaritan Center in
Forest City. She worked at the Good Samaritan Center for 27
years total, 10 years as Director of Nursing. Dolores also
was a 4-H Leader of the Forest Hustlers.
Dolores loved to travel
taking numerous bus trips, including trips to Rome, Italy;
Alaska; Hawaii and Canada. Dolores loved gardening, bird
watching, visiting casinos, playing bingo, playing cards
with friends. Dolores was active in the St. James Catholic
Church and volunteering at the Good Samaritan Center. She
enjoyed taking friends and family members to doctor
appointments.
Dolores is survived by her
five children, Arlis (Charles) Bode of South Dakota, Larry
Nelson, Alan Nelson, Tim (Deb) Nelson and Dan Nelson, all of
Forest City; one sister, Joan (Eugene) Graham of Dayton,
Ohio; one sister-in-law, Donna Heidenreich of Mason City;
eight grandchildren, Valerie Bode of Spillville, Miranda
(Aaron) Campbell of Chicago, Illinois, Cory Nelson of New
York City, Nick A Nelson of Chicago, Illinois, Tony Nelson
of California, Nathan (Jane) Nelson, Nick J Nelson, Heidi
(Tom) Aitchison, all of Forest City; eight
great-grandchildren; and seven nephews.
Dolores was preceded in
death by her parents; husband, Don; brother, Richard;
grandson, Ryan and granddaughter, Heather.

Kathryn M. “Kaye”
Bilyeu
August 22, 2012
Kathryn M. “Kaye” Bilyeu, 94, of Omaha, Nebraska, passed
away at the Brighton Gardens Senior Living Center, on
Sunday, August 12, 2012.
Funeral services were held
on Friday, August 17, at 1:30 p.m., at the West Center
Chapel of Heafey-Hoffmann-Dworak-Cutler in Omaha. Graveside
service and interment was on Saturday, August 18, at 3:30
p.m., in the Evergreen Cemetery in Britt. In lieu of
flowers, memorials may be sent to the Diabetes Research
Institute Foundation, 200 S. Park Road, Suite 100,
Hollywood, Florida.
Kaye was born on February
27, 1918 in Buffalo Center, Iowa, the daughter of Bertha and
Otto Markworth. Her education included two years of Business
School in California, before receiving a degree in Business
Education from the Oklahoma State University, attained after
she had married John O. Bilyeu in 1945. She worked a variety
of jobs and eventually retired from a job with the Social
Security Administration in Omaha.
Kaye greatly enjoyed
traveling and had visited Europe and Australia, as well as
many parts of the U. S. during her life. She was also an
avid square-dancer for many years.
Kaye was preceded in death
by her parents, Bertha and Otto; and by her husband, John O.
Bilyeu.
She is survived by her
son, John M. Bilyeu of Sidney, Nebraska; and brother, James
A. Markworth of Annville, Pennsylvania.
The family would like to
express gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff of the
following facilities, for care and attention she received:
Methodist Hospital, Omaha; Bergan Mercy Hospital, Omaha;
Waterford at Miracle Hills Assisted Living; and Brighton
Gardens Senior Living.

Jean Olson Long
August 22, 2012
Jean Olson Long, 80, passed away on Thursday, August 16,
2012, from Pick’s disease in Springfield, Missouri.
Jean Nadine Olson, was
born to Roy and Minnie Olson on October 4, 1931 in Forest
City. Jean was married to Rev. Loran Long in 1954. Jean and
Loran spent 30 years in Guatemala, Central America, where
their two daughters were born. In 1960, they pioneered a
missionary work for the Southwest Baptist Conference in San
Quintin, Baja California, Mexico. They spent 20 years there
founding and establishing a hospital called Hospital El Buen
Pastor. The hospital continues to operate to this date with
a Mexican staff. During this time, Jean homeschooled her two
daughters and the couple adopted two Mexican boys. In 1983,
the Longs moved to San Jose, Costa Rica and worked at the
Spanish Language Institute. They returned to San Diego,
California in 1993, to establish a young Hispanic church and
became involved in the Hispanic Ministerial Alliance of San
Diego.
Jean was an extraordinary
pianist. She could play just about anything from sight
reading to playing by ear. She used this gift of music
ministering in every aspect of her life. Jean had a humble
spirit and a beautiful gift of hospitality. She served
delicious home cooked meals to countless people over the
years where they lived and ministered.
Jean is survived by her
children, Caryl (Rev. Paul) Weingartner of Springfield,
Missouri, Shirley (Steven) Bowman of Moreno Valley,
California, Jose (Celia) Long of Moreno Valley, California
and Ismael (Sally) Long of San Jacinto, California; 10
grandchildren; two great-grandchildren with the third
great-grandchild due in September; and her brother, Don
Olson of Worthington, Minnesota.

Thomas Riherd
August 22, 2012
Thomas Riherd, 83, of Kanawha, passed away on Thursday,
August 16, 2012, at the Kanawha Community Home in Kanawha.
According to his wishes,
Thomas was cremated. Graveside services will be held at a
later date in the Crystal Lake Township Cemetery in Crystal
Lake, Iowa. The Ewing Funeral Home in Kanawha, is assisting
the family with arrangements.
Thomas A. Grant Riherd,
was born on April 21, 1929, to Clyde and Edna (Fanning)
Riherd in Storm Lake. He moved at the age of two with his
family to a farm east of Crystal Lake, where he resided
until 1993. Thomas was confirmed and a member of the Crystal
Lake United Methodist Church. He graduated from the Crystal
Lake High School in 1946 and started farming with his
dad. On July 24, 1949, he married Deloris Noble in
Garner. They had four children.
Thomas farmed for 45
years, living on the same farm for 62 years. He also worked
for Winnebago Industries for 10 years. He and Deloris
delivered Winnebago Motor Homes for nine years, being able
to travel and see the country. They had many experiences
during that time and enjoyed it very much. In 1993, Thomas
retired and moved into Crystal Lake for 11 years, then moved
to Kanawha in 2004. He enjoyed gardening in his retirement
years, wherever he was. He enjoyed sharing the produce with
family and friends.
Thomas loved his family,
and when possible, being with his grandchildren and
great-grandchildren. He always enjoyed reading the messages
they sent by e-mail. He attended many family reunions,
traveling distances to be there and enjoyed time with
extended family.
Thomas is survived by his
wife of 63 years, Deloris; three children, Penny (Elmer)
Davis of Bullhead City, Arizona, Doreen (Dave) Walk of
Kanawha and Tim (Cheryl) Riherd of Forest City;
daughter-in-law, Beth (Bill) Kettelkamp of Marion; 13
grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters-in-law, Mae
Riherd of Forest City and Corrine Ausborn of Britt;
brother-in-law, Cecil (Mary) Noble of Garner; along with
many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Preceding him in death
were his parents, Clyde and Edna Riherd; stepmother, Alma
Riherd; son, Randy; grandsons, Robert and John Thomas Riherd;
two brothers, Wendell and Wayne; sister, Phyllis Wilber; two
sisters-in-law, Deloris Riherd and Harriet Smith; and three
brothers-in-law, Bill Noble, Gene Wilber and Larry Smith.

Clarence Francis Sandry, 78, of Mason City and formerly of
Forest City, died on Friday, August 17, 2012, at the Muse
Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.
Per Clarence’s wishes, his
body has been cremated. A celebration of his life will take
place from 2-5:00 p.m., on Saturday, August 25, on “The
Hill” at 21550 Hwy 9, three-and-half-miles east of Forest
City, near the Pilot Knob entrance. A private family
inurnment will be held at a later date in the Oakwood
Cemetery in Forest City.
Clarence Francis Sandry,
son of Francis and Fannie (Dorenkamp) Sandry was born on
June 1, 1934 two miles north of Belmond. He met the love of
his life, Arlene Marie Chapman and was united in marriage on
March 26, 1953 in Britt. To this union, five children were
born, Jerry, Patty, Billy, Tammy and Lorry. They farmed for
over 30 years in the Cresco area. Following his agricultural
career, they owned and operated Borderline Pizza in Chester,
Iowa until 1995, when a fire destroyed their home and
business. Following this, they moved to the Forest City area
where he worked at Winnebago Industries until he retired in
2011. They wintered in Quartzsite, Arizona, for many years
until his health deteriorated and they could no longer make
the trip. They made their home at Sunny Circle in Mason
City.
He loved NASCAR races,
gardening, taking care of the yard, watching television,
helping his son around the farm and spending time with his
family.
Clarence is survived by
his wife, Arlene; children, Jerry (Jean) Sandry of Forest
City, Patty (John) Price of Brighton, Colorado, Billy and
Karen Sandry of Cresco, Tammy Mary (Jeremy Hanson) of Garner
and Lorry (Larry) Schoppers of Cresco; grandchildren, Jerry
(Megan) Sandry, Julie (Brad) Rauk, Jenny (Chris) Higgins,
John Price, Kathy (Jimmy) Wolfe, Crystal (Torrey) Sandry,
Kevin (Emily) Sandry, Adam (Tracy) Sandry, Lacy (David)
Copney, Steven (Jen) Mary, Nicholas (Ashley) Mary, Jesie
(Jason) Maly and Kenny (Tiffany) Mensink;

Harold J. “Bud”
Haugen

Harold J. “Bud” Haugen, 83, of Woden, died on Monday, August
27, 2012, at the Mercy Medical Center–North Iowa in Mason
City.
Funeral services will be
held at 1:30 p.m., on Thursday, September 6, at the St.
John’s Lutheran Church in Woden, with Revs. Bob Wolfert and
Jon Rollefson officiating. Burial will be in the Grant
Lutheran Cemetery, rural Woden, with military rites by the
Woden Veterans Ceremonial Unit. Visitation will be from
4:30-7:00 p.m., on Wednesday, at the Cataldo Funeral Home in
Woden and will continue one hour prior to the services at
the church.
Harold Junior “Bud”
Haugen, was born on September 16, 1928, to Ole Haugen and
Elizabeth (Gjertson) Haugen on a farm north of Woden. He was
baptized and confirmed at the Grant Lutheran Church, rural
Woden. He attended rural schools in Winnebago County. Bud
did farm work until he was 17 years old when he enlisted in
the Navy. He was stationed in San Diego, California,
Honolulu, Hawaii and Shanghai, China, serving four years.
For several years Bud did road construction work. He later
worked for the Woden Co-op Elevator and for 23 years doing
concrete work for North Iowa Grain in Garner, until he
retired.
Bud enjoyed bowling, going
to tournaments, fishing in Canada, watching Western movies
and the History channel. He especially enjoyed spending time
and playing cards with his nieces, great-nieces and
great-nephews.
He is survived by three
sisters and four brothers, Gerdis Haugen of Woden, Russell
(Colleen) Haugen of Thompson, Alice (Gunter) Walkusch of
Loveland, Colorado, John (Debra) Haugen of Klemme, Betty
(Norris) Anderson of Thompson, Donald (Liv) Haugen of
Bergen, Norway and Ole Haugen of Los Angeles,
California. Buddy was very much loved by his nieces and
nephews, Julie Haugen, Colleen Walkusch, John (Denis)
Walkusch, Deanna Haugen, Diana Myers, James (Tuesday)
Haugen, Nancy (David) Moklestad, Jason (Laura) Haugen,
Elizabeth Ann Haugen (Thomas Calder) and Cathrine Haugen;
great nieces and nephews, Ryan Keck, Sean and Logan
Mayfield, Jonathan Burress, Samantha Haugen, Megan Moklestad,
Alexis and Nicholas Myers, Alexander and Joshua Haugen,
Samuel and William Haugen, Albert Calder, Dawn (Alex)
Zaharis, Annah, Kadence and Harper Sue Zaharis.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; sister, Bernice; brother, Elliott; and
sister-in-law, Gloria Haugen.

Zachary Evan Albertson, age 2 months, died on Thursday,
August 30, 2012, at his home in Thompson.
A Celebration of Life was
held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, September 1, at the United
Methodist Church in Forest City, with Lay Pastor Dixie Rauk
officiating. Visitation was held before the service at 10:30
a.m., on Saturday, September 1, at the United Methodist
Church in Forest City.
Zachary Evan Albertson,
treasured son of Shane and Melissa Albertson, and beloved
brother of Elijah was born on June 21, 2012. Zachary's
family was blessed with his presence for more than two
beautiful, unforgettable months before he unexpectedly went
to his heavenly home. During his brief time here, Zachary
experienced many special moments with his family.
Daddy will miss setting
Zachary on his tummy and looking into his baby's eyes as he
practiced lifting his head. And Daddy will never forget how
Zachary would wiggle his arms and smile when tickled. Mommy
will miss her baby's warmth, coos, and the smiles he just
started giving two weeks ago. She will also miss the
precious moments she would stop to watch the three most
important men in her life while they played, and sometimes
slept together. He was happy outdoors and even went
fishing. Many other sweet memories with Zachary were also
shared by his grandparents, relatives, and family friends.
Though he will be missed, his family takes comfort knowing
they loved him, and told him so, an uncountable amount of
times.
Other surviving loved ones
include his paternal grandparents, Brian and Karen
Albertson; maternal grandparents, Lynn and Jill Osterkamp;
paternal great-grandparents, Violet Albertson and Ruth
Midthun; maternal great-grandparents, Edward and Joan
Osterkamp; uncles Travis, Dylan, Ryan, Nicholas and Andrew;
his aunts, Hillary, Sarah, Jen, Lisa and Heather; and
cousins, Krystal, Alexandria, Tyler, Brianna and Brandon.
Zachary will be joyfully
greeted in heaven by his paternal great-grandparents, Donald
Albertson and Loren Midthun; maternal great-grandparents,
Adolph and Imogene Boetel; his uncle, baby Ryne Albertson
and cousin, baby Bradley Osterkamp.

Paul Peterson, 66, of Woden, died on Thursday, August 30,
2012, at the Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City.
As per his wishes, his
body has been cremated. A memorial service is being planned
for a later date.
