Roger Wilder funeral

Roger Dean Wilder, 79, died Monday, July 9, 2012 at his home.

Funeral Services will be held 1:30 am Thursday, July 12th at the First Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar with Pastor Paul Weeg officiating. Burial will be at the First Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday July 11th from 5 – 7 PM and one hour before the service.

Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home of St. Ansgar is in charge of arrangements.

Roger was born January 21, 1933 to Andrew (Jack) and Elmira (Smith) Wilder. Roger attended school at Otranto. He was united in marriage to Barbara Jean Kittleson on June 6, 1954 at the First Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar. The couple had five children.

Roger worked as a mechanic for L.R. Falk for many years. His lawns and garden were his pride and joy. He spent countless hours on his lawn mower. He was a volunteer fireman for many years.

Roger is survived by his wife, Barb, three daughters: Nancy (Randy) Hackenmiller, Linda (John Harl) Hatten, Becky (Mike) Dobson; one son Kent Wilder. Six grandchildren: Molly Hackenmiller, Joe (Maria) Hackenmiller, Jason Hatten, Brittnae Canfield, Nathan Dobson, Alton Dobson. Five great-grandchildren: Kimberly, Kenya, Joey Hackenmiller; Danny, Lily Hatten. Two sisters Jeanne (Butch) Neuman and Joan (Steve) Braun. Numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Elmira Wilder. Four brothers: Doyle, Laurel, Marly, Donnie Wilder. One son Kevin Wilder.


Dorothy M. Nieman funeral

Dorothy Margaret Martha Nieman, 95, of St. Ansgar, IA, passed away on July 13th of cancer at her daughter’s home with her family.

Funeral services was held on Tuesday, July 17, 2012, at the First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, Iowa at 1:30 PM with Rev. Paul Weeg officiating. Burial was in the First Lutheran Cemetery, St. Ansgar.

Dorothy was born on August 27th, 1916 in St. Ansgar IA the daughter of Walter C. and Hedwig (Hattie) A. (Feldt) Gutman. She was the oldest of nine children and learned to help her mother early on with cooking, baking and raising the children. Dorothy was five years old when her family moved to a farm West of Randall, MN.

She married Harry Herman Nieman July 17th, 1935 at St. Cloud, MN. They lived on the Otto Nieman farm West of Little Falls, MN for nine years, then moved to Britt, IA for ten years and then moved to Wells, MN for two years before moving back to St. Ansgar, IA in June 1956. After working out of the home, she started a greenhouse at her home in the 1970’s since Harry was in poor health. Harry passed away on June 16th, 1975. Her family helped with much of the work in the greenhouse. And her Grandchildren learned much about growing plants.

She sold the greenhouse to Joyce (her Granddaughter) and Tom Crowley on August 29th, 1992. Dorothy retired to a new home on the South side of St. Ansgar. Here she crocheted and sewed making doilies, Afghans, and many quilts for family members and the church.

Dorothy enjoyed having the Great Grandchildren come over to visit, learn to cook and bake. They then would play games and enjoy the treats that they made. Dorothy enjoyed having friends and family over to visit making wonderful diners the family will long remember. She also enjoyed travelling to visit family from Alaska to Florida.

Dorothy is survived by her children: Yvonne Krumm of St. Ansgar, IA and Harry Otto (Dorothy Jean) of Mapleview, MN. Grandchildren Donald Krumm, Ocala, FL, Debra (James) Nelson of Rosecreek, MN, Joyce (Thomas) Crowley of St. Ansgar, IA and Pastor Diane Krumm of Mayville, ND. Great Grand children Kristina (Steven) Morische of Dayton, ME, Lacey Crowley of Speicher, Germany, Shawn Crowley of Fairborn, OH and two sisters Delores Mooney of Baltimore, MD, Elaine Little of Punta Gorda, FL, and one brother Myron Gutman of Fairbanks, AL, sister-in-law Geraldine Barney of Tucson, AZ, sister-inlaw Frances Gutman of Fairbanks AL, brother-in-law Duane Miller of Long Prairie, MN, brother-in-law Jim Lillemo of Isandi, MN and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Harry Herman; three brothers, Walter, Willard, and Donald two sisters, Margaret Miller and Marilyn Lillemo, sister-in-law Laurene Gutman, niece Beverly Rae Regnell and son-in-law Clarence Krumm.


Ira Hofland funeral

Ira James Hofland, 88, of Northwood died Sunday, July 15, 2012 at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood, Iowa.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, July , 2012 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Lyle, Minn., at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Barbara Finley Shea officiating. Burial was at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Mona, Iowa. Born on May 17, 1924, the son of Ibert and Laura (Jacobson) Hofland. Ira attended country school in Mona.

He was united in marriage to Loretta Stromley on May 17, 1944 in Lyle, Minn. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, he was also confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. Ira farmed near Lyle, Minn., he also hauled cream, milked cows, raised pigs, combined, hayed and worked for other farmers.

He worked at FS in Lyle, Minn. Ira liked to go fishing with friends. He thought a lot of his dogs.

Ira will be sadly missed by his children and wife Loretta. Children are; Jean (Gary) Hartwig of Northwood, James Hofland of Winthrop, Ronald Hofland of Cedar Rapids. Grandchildren; Scott (Tammy) Hartwig of Marinette, Wis., Todd Hartwig of Eau Claire, Wis., Tammy (Tim) Charolson of Grafton, Shiela (Seve) Yates of Sioux Falls, SD, Christopher Hofland of Henderson, Colo., Jayson Hofland of Rowley, Jeremy Hofland of Winthrop, Brandon Hofland of Cedar Rapids, Heather Hofland of Winthrop. Greatgrandchildren; Tyler and Nick Hartwig of Wis., Kelly Hartwigh of St. Paul, Minn. Travis and Tianna Charlson of Grafton, Christopher Jr., Sage, Madison, Grant, Abri, Blane Hofland. One Brother Carroll (Kelly) Hofland of Sun City, Ariz. and nieces, and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Loretta Hayden.


Richard Sandera funeral

Richard (Dick) Sandera, 69, died peacefully on July 12, 2012 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minn. after a very short battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2012 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, Iowa, at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. Byron Northwick officiating. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 20, 2012 at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home in Northwood, Iowa.

He was born July 1, 1943, was baptized July 25, 1943 and grew up in Wahpeton, ND. He attended St. John’s parochial school and graduated from Wahpeton Central High School in 1961. Dick’s military service was with the United States Army, serving in Fort Carson, Colorado, Fort Eustis, Virginia and Omaha, Nebraska.

He was employed by Northwest Airlines in 1967, the beginning of a career that would span 40 years. He worked in Minneapolis/St. Paul and Rochester, Minn., and had fond memories of good friends and funny stories intertwined in those many years. Dick was blessed with three children.

They are Deborah (Steve) Machacek from Eagan, Minn., Lisa (Jeff) Sczublewski from Shorewood, Minn., and Rich Revord (Julie) from Grove Heights, Minn.

Dick married Susan (Reisetter) Kirchgessner on November 17, 1984 in Apple Valley, Minn.

They retired from Northwest Airlines in 2004 and enjoyed living in the bluff country of southeastern Minnesota, near Altura and Whitewater State Park. They were active in community service, volunteer projects and church. After moving to Northwood Dick was active with Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels, the Aristocrats Car Club, Northwood Lions Club, the American Legion and the Northwood Special Events Committee.

He especially enjoyed working with the Worth County Fair Board on several projects at the fairgrounds. He enjoyed being a “seasonal farmer”, working in the spring and fall. A favorite pastime was playing cards with friends, especially cribbage and pinochle.

Preceding Dick in death were his parents, Eugene and Elsie (Dowzak) Sandera.

Dick is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 28 years, Sue, from Northwood. A brother, Robert (Sharon) Sandera from Austin, TX. Two sisters; Carol (David) Wood from Breckenridge, Minn., and Joyce (Jerry) Thomsen from Tyler, Minn.

In addition to his children and spouses, he is survived by six beloved grandchildren. Deb’s four children are Jordan (basketball star!), Zack (jujitsu star!), Tate (football and baseball star!) and Lauren (princess and track star!). Lisa’s children are Bella (gorgeous and speaks French!) and Gaby (our beautiful Christmas baby!) Also left to cherish his memory are dear nephews and in-laws.

He is also survived by his Aunt Katherine, 102 years young, living in Seattle, WA., and by his mother-in-law, Thora Reisetter, who loved him very much.

He was blessed with two groups of wonderful friends, community friends in Northwood, and church family friends in St. Ansgar. Dick’s life on earth was brief, but he is now in the arms of his loving and eternal heavenly Father.

Non-designated memorial gifts will be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church for the continuation of the Oasis Program and Telling the Sacred Story.


Cassidy Leigh Stehn funeral

A funeral service for Cassidy was held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, July 14, 2012, at the First Lutheran Church, 309 North 9th Street, Northwood, with Pastor Karen Rossing Grandall, and Pastor Wendi Gillan of the United Methodist Church in Northwood officiating.

Cassidy Leigh Stehn was born on January 24, 2003, in Mason City, the daughter of Rodney and Teresa (Arrett) Stehn. Cassidy attended the Northwood-Kensett Community School, and would have entered the 4th grade this fall. Cassidy enjoyed reading books, coloring, watching and playing all sports, especially bowling with her dad, playing softball, soccer, watching movies and her favorite TV shows with her family and friends, going to her grandma Eldora’s home and helping decorate cup cakes, and spending the night her sisters Danielle and Rachel.

Cassidy was a member of First Lutheran Church in Northwood, Worth County Clover Kids, and Cammi’s Dance Studio. Those left to cherish her memory are her parents, Rodney and Teresa Stehn of Northwood; her sisters, Danielle Taylor and her special friend, Andy Carter of Ventura, and Rachel Taylor and her special friend, Kory Jaspers of Manly; her grandmothers, Jean Arrett of Red Bluff, CA, and Eldora Stehn of Northwood; her aunts, Tracey (Jim) Hibbert of Perry, Toni (Ray) Hammond of Charleston, S.C., and Mary (Brian) Branstad of Grafton; her uncle Thomas Nix of Charleston, S.C.; and her special dog Toby who she named after her favorite country singer, Toby Keith; as well as many other special cousins and friends.

Cassidy was preceded in death by her grandfather’s, James Stehn, and Robert Arrett and her great-grandparents.


Robert F. Miller

Robert F. Miller born Jan 8, 1934 to Sanford and Jennie (Van Werven) Miller in Chicago Illinois.

His mother passed away when Robert was 18 months old and his father later married Helen Cramer. Robert knew Helen as his mother and had a very close relationship.

Robert has one sister Sandra (Earl) Barnes of Phoenix, AZ. Robert married Nancy A. Huber on Oct 5, 1957.

Robert and Nancy together raised three children, Robert M. Miller of Stacyville, IA., Lisa A. Haskins of St. Ansgar and Jennifer L Metz of Crystal, MN. Robert and Nancy greatly enjoy three grandchildren, Keith Haskins of Marion NC, Kendall Haskins of Visalia CA and Cathy Haskins of St. Ansgar, IA. Robert and Nancy also have four great grandchildren, Seth, Mason, Abby and Aiden whom they loved very much and enjoyed spending time with.

He is also survived by one sister Sandra of Pheonix, Az.

Robert was preceded in death by his father, Stanford; his mother Jennie and his step mother, Helen.

Robert worked as a machinist in Chicago for many years and also farmed. Robert later farmed full time. Robert’s greatest enjoyment was dairy farming.

Robert had a second lease on life when he received a heart transplant on August 8, 1997 in Iowa City.

Bob and his family are grateful to the transplant team at the University of Iowa Hospital. Bob became focused on and championed organ donation. He spent his remaining years enjoying family, friends and travel and life in St. Ansgar.


Sidney Roger Baldwin service

Sidney Roger Baldwin, 75 , of St. Ansgar, died on Monday, July 16, 2012 at his rural St. Ansgar home.

Family will be holding a private family service. Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home of St. Ansgar is handling the arrangements.
