Richard Tuthill

St. Ansgar, Iowa- Richard Frank Tuthill, 79, of St. Ansgar, died on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center.

Memorial service were held on Monday, April 2, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, with Rev. Dr. Byron Northwick officiating. Burial will be in the Kensett Cemetery, Kensett, Iowa.

Family received friends on Sunday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar. Richard was born on September 11, 1932 in Mason City, Iowa to Frankie and Clara (Tobsing) Tuthill.

He was raised by his grandparents and uncle in Mason City. He graduated from Mason City High School. Richard entered into the U.S. Army in June 1950 and served until July 1953, serving as a combat medic in Korea, where he was highly decorated.

He returned to Mason City and helped his Uncle Jack build houses. Richard married Marjorie Crooks on April 20, 1960 in West Union, Iowa. He worked for Mason City Brick & Tile Comp. for 17 years; AMPI for 17 years and has been retired for the last 17 years.

Richard enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping, his poker group in Kensett, traveling and playing cribbage.

Richard is survived by his wife Marjorie of St. Ansgar; two daughters, Rebecca (Anton) Lichtenberger of Richardson, Texas, Kristina (Bryan) Shupe of St. Ansgar; two sons, Brian Tuthill of Dallas, Texas and Bruce Tuthill of Mason City, Iowa; his sister Nancy Tuthill of Killeen, Texas; and his grandchildren, whom he loved; Aaron, Nathaniel and Sara Tuthill; Cody Malli; Reese and Emma Lichtenberger; Grace and Grady Shupe.

Harlan Rohne

Harlan Rohne, age 69 of London, left this life on Thursday March 29, 2012 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.

He was born to Arthur and Alice (Peterson) Rohne on July 15, 1942 at St. Olaf Hospital in Austin, Minnesota. Harlan was confirmed at Six Mile Grove Church in rural Lyle, and graduated from Lyle High School in 1960. Harlan was married to Charlotte A. Wogstad on July 24, 1961 until her passing.

On June 5, 1993 he married Jan Howe. Harlan was an avid and proficient carpenter and an accomplished builder of structures and cabinetry. Many pieces of furniture in his house were hand crafted by him. He was also employed by the Oliver Tractor Company in Charles City, Iowa.

He enjoyed golf, fishing, hunting, camping, horseshoes, and most of all his family, who always came first. Harlan was the former fire chief of the London, Minnesota fire department. He was an accomplished athlete in his youth, achieving the honor of being one of the top twelve hitters on the baseball team of the Lyle, Minnesota schools from 1939 until 1995.

He also played fast pitch softball in the church league and was a serious snowmobiler, belonging to the snowmobile club, Lords of London. He spent many seasons at the Wise Stop campground with his loving wife Jan. A very non-judgmental person, Harlan made everyone feel welcome at his home, generally inviting them for a cup of coffee, soft drink, or a frosty cold Schmitz’s beer. When you would arrive, Harlan would say, “Well, you want one?”

His beloved and devoted dogs Buddy and Suzie were at his side constantly at home, camping or recreating in any way.

Survivors include his wife Jan of London; his children Roger (Natalie) Wogstad of Lyle, Rodney (Heidi) Wogstad of Austin, Robin (Bob) Mittag of Lyle; stepchildren Kelly (Randy) Ehlke of St. Ansgar, Iowa, Patrick Howe of Dallas, Texas, Harold (Andrea) Howe of Redfield, Iowa, Kenneth (Robin) Howe of St. Ansgar; many grandchildren, step grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; his mother Alice Rohne of Lyle; brothers Robert (Mary Lou) Rohne and Eugene Rohne of Lyle, Terry (Nancy) Rohne of Austin.

He was preceded in death by his father Arthur and his first wife Charlotte.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday April 3, 2012 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Lyle with Reverend Barbara Finley- Shea officiating. Friends may call from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday April 2 at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin and one hour prior to the service at the church. Casket bearers are David Johnson, Ron Lee, Bob Kaput, Trent Murphy, Gene Kline, and David Kline. Honorary casket bearers will be the grandchildren. Interment was in Woodbury Cemetery,

Marvin (Red) Krebsbach

Stacyville, Iowa- Marvin (Red) Bernard Krebsbach, 87, died on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center.

Mass of Christian Burial was on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at 10:30 AM at the Visitation Catholic Church, Stacyville, with Father Jack McClure CPPS officiating. Burial was in the Visitation Catholic Cemetery, Stacyville.

Marvin was born on October 12, 1924 in Union Township, Mitchell County, Iowa, northwest of Stacyville to Anton and Rose (Wingert) Krebsbach. He attended Union #2 country school for eight years and four years at Visitation High School, graduating in 1943.

On June 2, 1945 he entered into the United States Army and served in active duty in France until October of 1946 when he was discharged.

He was then employed by Theobald Implement in Stacyville and also worked for Hormel in Austin, Minn for a time.

Marvin was united in marriage on June 25, 1947 to Adeline Gilles. They began farming northwest of Stacyville in 1949 where they remained for forty years.

In 1990 they retired to a new home in Stacyville. They were lifelong members of the Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville. Marvin was a member of the Mitchell County Hospital Board for seventeen years. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, boating and in his later years he spent many hours building wooden replicas of farm equipment that he used during his years of farming.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Adeline in 2000; two brothers, Raymond and Eugene; an infant sister; sisters and brothers-in-law, Wilfred (Chrystal) Gilles, Wilmer (Arlis) Gilles, Rueben (Ardella) Gilles, Leo (Marian) Johnson, Vernon Gilles, Theresa Langenfeld, Daniel Gilles and Clarence Hemann.

Marvin is survived by his thirteen children; Diane Rose, Kenny, Jim (Sheryl) Krebsbach of Stacyville, Judy (Rick) Thurnau, Emily (Rod) Kuntz, Marcia (Mike) Molsberry of St. Ansgar, Marilyn (Dave) Bode of Osage, Gregg (Mindy) Krebsbach of Stacyville, Russ Krebsbach of Owatonna, MN, Roger (Tina) Krebsbach of Newburgh, In., Joleen (Gary) Pedersen of Mason City, Ia, Carolyn (Dave) Devens of St. Ansgar, and Paul (Coralie) Krebsbach of Stacyville; 38 grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; sisters-in-law; Barbara Krebsbach of Stacyville, Ardella Krebsbach of Adams, Mn, Gloria Gilles of Adams, Mn, Elizabeth Hemann of Stacyville.; brothers-in-law Greg Langenfeld of Dunlap, Ia., Paul (Gertie) Gilles of Waterloo, Ia.; many nieces and nephews.


Ruth Libersky

Ruth Libersky passed away on Saturday, April 7, from natural causes at the age of 83.

Ruth is survived by her husband of 61 years, Robert, and three children: James (Nancy) Libersky, Minneapolis; Jan Barnard and Jill (Greg) Nickerson, both of Milwaukee. Ruth also is survived by 7 grandchildren, other loving relatives and many dear friends.

Memorial service will be held at First Lutheran Church, Saturday, April 21 at 11:00 AM. Burial to follow at St. Ansgar City Cemetery. Reception at Acorn Park Clubhouse after the burial.

Jim Hanna

William James Hanna, age 86, of Cedar Falls and formerly of Osage, died Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at Bickford of Cedar Falls.

Funeral services were held 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 23, 2012, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Osage with Rev. Bruce Kaltwasser officiating. Burial was in the St. Ansgar Cemetery with military honors at the grave by Walter T. Enneberg American Legion Post 358 of St. Ansgar.

Jim was born February 1, 1926, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of William and Agnes (Anderson) Hanna. He attended school in St. Ansgar and graduated from St. Ansgar High School.

Jim served in the U.S. Marines during World War II in the Pacific Theater. On May 25, 1947, he was united in marriage to Geneva Marcks at Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar. They made their home in St. Ansgar before moving to Osage in 1954, where Jim was a printer at the Osage Press News.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he served as a deacon, and was a life time member of the St. Ansgar American Legion. Jim enjoyed golf, dancing, playing cards, and most importantly, spending time with his family. He will be remembered for his commitment to his country, wife, family and faith.

Jim is survived by his wife, Geneva Hanna of Cedar Falls; his children, Mike (Pam) Hanna of Urbandale and Julie (Russ) Foth of Cedar Falls; five grandchildren, Kate Westphal, Kelly Kohls, Jennifer Wightman, Jamie Johnson and Kurt Hanna; eight greatgrandchildren; and one brother, Doug (Rose) Hanna of St. Ansgar.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Phillip Hanna.

Norman E. Braun

Norman E. Braun, age 74 of Albia, died Saturday, April 14, 2012, at the Serenity House in Oskaloosa.

He was a graduate of South Dakota State University at Brookings, S.D., and General Manager of Chariton Valley Electric for 27 years. He was active in many civic and community organizations, including Albia Community Betterment, Albia Industrial Development, Professional Management, Lions, and Babe Ruth. Braun, along with Mike Lawrence and Sonny Williams, planned and developed the Albia Sports Complex in 1985. He volunteered electrical maintenance since then.

He was treasurer of Rathbun Area Babe Ruth for 30 years and was inducted into the Iowa Babe Ruth Hall of Fame in 2005. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. He spent his free time gardening, fishing, woodworking and spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Naomi; three sons Tim (Peggy) Braun of Arizona, Dr. Terry (Jill) Braun of Iowa City, Dr. Tracy (Rett) Braun of Washington, D.C.; and one granddaughter, Hannah Jane Braun of Iowa City.

Norman is also survived by three brothers, two sisters, and nieces and nephews.

His body was cremated per his wishes.

Visitation was Monday, April 16, 2012 from 3 to 5 p.m., with family present at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia.
