Lillian I. Johnson

 

St. Ansgar, Iowa- Lillian I. Johnson, 91, of St. Ansgar, died on Sunday, August 5, 2012 at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center.

Funeral service was held on Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at 10:30 AM at the First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, with Rev. Paul Weeg officiating. Burial was in the St. Ansgar Cemetery.

Lillian was born on March 28, 1921 in Mitchell County, Iowa to Ross and Effie (Tunmore) Eckert. She attended Otranto School graduating high school in 1939. Lillian married Norris M. Johnson on November 25, 1939. Three sons were born to them: Melvin, Norman and David. They farmed in the Otranto area until 1965, when Norris was employed by D.C. Jorgensen & Sons, Inc. until 1972.

They moved to DeWitt, Iowa and ran the DeWitt Farm Store until moving back to St. Ansgar in 1983. Lillian was a member of the First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two grandchildren, Michelle Marie and Greg Alan; one great grandchild, Hanna Olivia; four brothers; three sisters.

Lillian is survived by her three sons; Melvin (Pat) of Rochester, Minn; Norman (Kathy) of St. Ansgar; David ( Mary Jean) of DeWitt, Iowa; 8 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren.


Irene Hartwig

Irene Magdalene Hartwig, age 97, of Grafton, died Saturday, August 4, 2012, at the Manly Nursing and Rehab Center in Manly.

Memorial services wereheld at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 8, 2012, at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Grafton with Rev. Barbara M. Wills officiating. Inurnment was in the Grafton Cemetery.

Irene was born November 12, 1914, to John and Emma (Glauwitz) Bork, at the family home near Grafton. She was baptized in 1914 and confirmed in 1930 at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Grafton. Irene graduated from Grafton High School in 1932.

On March 20, 1937, she married Morley Hartwig in the Lutheran Church at Marshall, Wisconsin. To this union three children were born, Janice, Phyllis, and Jim. Irene was employed by Dr. William Moore of Grafton as a receptionist/bookkeeper for 16 years and was a custodian for 21 years at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church.

She was a Sunday school teacher, charter member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Altar Guild, and served for many years as a member of the Mary Martha Circle. Irene enjoyed baking, playing cards, socializing with friends and relatives, and was known as a caregiver to many.

Irene is survived by her daughter, Phyllis Peterson of Clear Lake; her son, Jim (Shirley) Hartwig of Farmington, Minnesota; six grandchildren, Candis (Dave) Feldt of St. Ansgar, Kevin (Mary) Cole of Grafton, Renae (Scott) Weghorst of Fisher, Indiana, Dana (Gene) Schelest of Orange, California, Matt (fiancée, Christine Gilberts) Hartwig of Cannon Falls, Minnesota, Travis (Michelle) Hartwig of Cannon Falls, Minnesota; nine great-grandchildren, Whitney, Cole, Adam, Garrett, Christian, John, Tyler, Jamie and Christopher; and two sisters, Elly Kline of Grafton and Genny Furness of Cedar Rapids.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Morley in 1950; her daughter, Janice Cole in 1982; wo sons-in-law, Gene Cole and Ron Peterson, both in 2010; and 13 brothers and sisters.


Beulah “Bea” Stickney (Knutson)

South Lake Tahoe CA-On Sunday, August 19, 2012, Bea Stickney passed quietly in her sleep to the loving arms of her Lord.

She was born March 22, 1916, to Otto and Myra Ruth (Warrington) Knutson. Bea was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

On June 5, 1937, she married Herbert Stickney. Six Children were born to this union.

A family memorial service will be held in the spring when Bea and Herb will be laid to rest, next to their twin daughters, in Osage.

Left to cherish her memory are Juleinne Turner and her husband, Albert, of Gardnerville, Nevada; Barbara Stuart, of South Lake Tahoe, California; Deborah Stickney, of St. Ansgar, Iowa; two brothers, Orray Knutson and wife Lucille, of St. Ansgar; Otto Knutson Jr. and wife Joan, of LaFayette, Colorado; one sister Monnie Hughes, of Glen Ellen, Illinois; 10 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.

She is proceeded in death by her parents, her husband, twin daughters, her son, one grandson, two sisters, two brothers, one granddaughter, and one great-grandson.


Beatrice (Betty) Jean Goplerud

St. Ansgar, Iowa- Beatrice (Betty) Jean Goplerud, 91, of St. Ansgar, passed away peacefully at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center on August 20, 2012.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 23, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Deer Creek Lutheran Church, Carpenter, Iowa, with Rev. Lance Kittleson officiating. Burial will be in the First Lutheran Cemetery, St. Ansgar. Visitation is scheduled for one hour prior to service at the church. Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home of St. Ansgar is in charge of arrangements.

Beatrice was born March 28, 1921 in Ringtown, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of the late Orville R. and Myrtle R. (Rich) Breisch. Beatrice was a registered nurse and took part in the pioneering of the kidney dialysis program at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine Teaching Hospital in New York City.

Beatrice married James Schorr in 1943 and to this union two sons were born, John and Michael Schorr. In 1967 she married Kenneth Goplerud and moved to his farm in Iowa. Together they created 43 years of fond family memories.

Beatrice was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; son, Michael Schorr and grandson Mark Steiert.

Beatrice is survived by her son, Dr. John (Phyitra) Schorr, his daughters Jennifer (Sam) Khichi and sons Kiertan and Nathan; and Anne (John Schultz) Schorr; Kenneth’s children, Linda (Jackson) Steiert and son John (Victoria) Steiert and daughter Kendra; David (Judy) Goplerud and children Gregory (Kaye) Goplerud and children Kaitlyn and Hannah; Kari (Russ) Nelson and children Jordan and Gayle; and John (Sharon) Goplerud and children Mary (Darwin) McKeen and daughters Cara and Brittney, and Christopher (DeeAnn) Goplerud and boys Christopher and Kyle.
