Norma Jean Ellis

SALEM- Norma Jean Ellis, 69 years of age, peacefully passed away Thursday, November 3rd due to Lung cancer.

She was born to Sylvan & Hazel Glassel and grew up on the family dairy farm in Iowa. Mom achieved many accomplishments during her life including managing several apartment complexes, owning and operating The Sports Cottage, as well as a consignment store with her sister, Sylvia, in Sacramento, CA.

In June of 1994, she moved to Salem, OR. with her daughter Vanessa and family. Mom enjoyed a few months of 'down time' before getting a job with the newly opened Circuit City, selling major appliances. Later she was employed at Kuebler's Furniture, excelling in sales and eventually becoming store manager.

She also managed Meadowlawn Apts. in Salem. She loved every job she had and performed her duties with great skill and precision. Mom had a heart of gold and loved to take care of everyone, spoiling her employees and customers alike with candy and home cooked meals.

An avid reader, she loved to cook, garden and shop Goodwill with her nephew and sister nearly every weekend. Mom was one of those exceptional people, shaped by hard times and yet emerged a survivor, she was strong and knew the meaning of 'tough love' and wasn't afraid to speak her mind.

One of moms last wishes was to spend a day at the coast with family, which we were able to accomplish. We will miss her dearly but are thankful for the time we had with her.

She is survived by her daughter Vanessa Wanting (Jones), son Albert Ellis (Viki), nephew Bill Lee, sister Sylvia Anderson, brother Robert Glassel, five grandchildren, Crystal Johnson, Derek Wanting (Carmen), Lenea Kertson (Trevor), William Ellis, Jenet Stutzman (Bailey), and three great grandchildren, Evelyn and Eleanor Kertson, and Gabriel Wanting, all of which she loved and adored and was affectionately known as Grams and 'G. G.' (great grandma).

A memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m., Monday, November 21, 2011 at Sundial Mfg. Home Park 2310 Lancaster Dr. SE, Salem, OR. Refreshments following.
