Kenneth Stromley

St. Ansgar, IA—Kenneth Dale Stromley, 76, of St. Ansgar, died June 21, 2011 at his home.

Funeral services were at 10:30 AM on Saturday, June 25, 2011 at Deer Creek Lutheran Church, Carpenter, IA with Rev. Dr. Byron Northwick officiating. Burial was in Deer Creek Cemetery. Visitation was be held from 5:00-8:00 PM Friday at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar.

Kenneth was born April 6, 1935 in Deer Creek Township to Carl and Nettie (Halvorson) Stromley. He attended school at Little Cedar through the 8th grade, then worked for Gus Neiss on the farm.

Kenneth entered the military in 1958 and was discharged in 1960, serving in Germany during the “Cold War”. Following discharge he worked for McKinley’s in St. Ansgar, Oliver in Charles City and Wilsons in Albert Lea. In 1965 he married Judy Fjetland.

He had resided at his current residence since 1968. Being a life-long horse and animal lover, he enjoyed raising horses, three of which are show horses in other states. Since retirement his main hobby was fixing vehicles and tractors for anyone that needed help.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister Mary Jane, brother Orville Stromley, one niece Patricia McPhail, four brothers- in-law Darrel Patterson, Ray Rekow, Larry Warrington, and Glenn Petznick; and two sisters-in-law Evelyn Stromley and Marlene (Jackie) Stromley.

Kenneth is survived by his three children Dan (Lois) of Rockwell, Doug of Mason City, and Brenda Brown (Steve Huebsch) of St. Ansgar; Five grandchildren Carrie (Doug) Van Zanten, Corey Stromley, Chelsea (Jeff) Regan, Mark (Amber) Richardson and Matt Huebsch; ten sisters Loretta (Ira) Hoffland, Ruth Patterson, Louise (Bob) McPhail, Jane (Jurn) Reisnan, Rose Rekow, Inez (Francis) Hommez, Gladys (Arnold) Groth, Lillian Warrington, Betty (David) Tollefson, Dianne Petznick; one brother Carl Junior Stromley; 41 nieces and nephews and lifelong best friend Jimmy Gunsallus.

Howard Bless

St. Ansgar, IA--Howard Bless, 87, of St. Ansgar, died June 23, 2011 at his home.

Funeral services were held Monday, June 27, 2011 at 11:00 at First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar with Rev. Robert Porisch officiating. Burial was in St. Peter Cemetery, Toeterville, IA. Visitation was be Sunday, June 26 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, 207 S. School Street, St. Ansgar, IA.

Howard Louis Bless was born February 3, 1924 in Worth County, IA to Clarence C. and Dora R. (Hartwig) Bless. He was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Rock Township, Mitchell County, Iowa and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, IA. He graduated from St. Ansgar High School in 1941.

He served in the Armed Forces from November 1944-August 1946 with Basic Training in Camp Wolters. He was in the Infantry until November 1945, after which he attended clerk-typist training in France. From January of 1946 until discharge he was a typist-clerk in Theater Headquarters in Frankfurt, Germany.

After returning home he farmed with his dad and brother Darold in the Toeterville area, which he continued until his retirement in 1998, moving to St. Ansgar in November of 1991. He was married to Marion G. Thompson of London, MN on June 14, 1952 in a double wedding with his brother Darold and Marion’s sister Helen at Deer Creek Lutheran Church, Carpenter, IA. She was a loving wife and mother, a great partner.

He served his church and community in many ways. At church he was a Sunday school teacher and Superintendent for over 25 years, later teaching bible studies to both youth and adults. He was church chairman several different times and on the board of Deacons.

Howard enjoyed working with the many different pastors as each had something to strengthen his spiritual faith. In the community, he served on the Toeterville Elevator board, Mitchell County Farm Bureau and Township Chairman, Mitchell County Extension Council, Dairy Herdsman of Iowa Board, Cedar Valley Credit Union, Cedar Valley Minute Man Board, Sons of Norway and St. Ansgar Maple Manor Board.

Howard enjoyed fishing, bowling, playing pool and cards, especially with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; playing fast-pitch softball in his younger days and in later years baking cookies.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one sister, three sisters-inlaw, and 2 brothers-in-law.

Howard is survived by his wife Marion of St. Ansgar, son Larry (Julie) Bless of St. Ansgar, two daughters Lynne (Don) Rustvold of Audubon, IA and Larae (Richard) Boatman of Eldora, IA; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, one sister Doreen (Carl) Finnesgaard of Kenyon, MN; brother-in-law Donald Morasch of Osage.

Debra Ann White memorial service

Debra Ann (Rosenberg) White, 53, of Mason City, Iowa passed away on July 14, 2011, at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Deb White was born July 20, 1957 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Osage, IA, the daughter of Raymond Rosenberg and Barbara Leraaen. Deb graduated from St. Ansgar Community Schools in 1975. She graduated from Hamilton Business School in 1981.

Deb and James Brian White were united in marriage on August 30, 1975 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Austin, MN. They lived in St. Ansgar, Wapello, and Northwood, IA, before moving permanently to Mason City, IA.

Deb’s greatest loves were her children, grandchildren, sewing, painting, wood working and volunteering in the Christian ministry. One of her greatest achievements was her successful alternative medicine business. She found great joy and pride in helping others.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband Jim White, Mason City, IA, children William Allen White, Laramie, WY, Lynsee (Jayson) Lavonne Fierstine, Manchester, IA, grandchildren Hailey Jean Fierstine and Jude Carter Fierstine, Manchester, IA, mother Barbara (Oral) Leraaen, St. Ansgar, IA, sisters and brothers Teri (Gary) Johnson, Elmore, MN, Karen (Charles) Kittleson, St. Ansgar, IA, Randy Rosenberg, Rock Island, IL, Ricky Rosenberg, St. Ansgar, IA, Sharon (Mark) Krebsbach, St. Joseph, MN, Rebecca (Russell) Horak, Springville, IA, sister-in-law Celine Dalliere, Canada. Mother-inlaw Emma Rose White, Austin, MN, sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws, Marcella Kathan, Osage, IA, Dan Perkins, Rochester, MN, Janet (Bob) Vervaecke, Osage Beach, MI, Linda Slindee, Austin, MN, Doug White, Austin, MN, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father Raymond D. Rosenberg (1993), brother Raymond D. Rosenberg Jr. (1997), sister-in-law Debra (Meyer) Rosenberg (1992), grandparents Archie and Gwendolyn Pike, George and Anna Rosenberg, father-in-law Wilfred C. White, sister-in-law, Jean Perkins, brother-in-laws Imanuel Slindee, and Greg Kathan.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2011, at 11:30 a.m., at the Cedar River Complex , 1006 Chestnut St., ( located at the Fairgrounds) Osage, IA.
Jacqueline “Jackie” Berry

Funeral services for Jacqueline “Jackie” Berry of Tripp were held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 25 at Emmaus Lutheran Church in Tripp with Rev. Richard Weeman officiating. Organist was Delilah Hahn. Interment followed in Gracehill Cemetery, Tripp. Casketbearers were Caleb Berry, Dustin Berry, Travis Berry, Ricky Hughes, Mike McKinney and Aubry Peters. Honorary casketbearers were Amanda Berry, Shina Conrad, Amy Peters and Mandy Schmitt.

Jacqueline Nicole “Jackie” Berry was born on Wednesday, October 4, 1989 in San Bernardino, California to Chad Allen and Tamara Kay (Morris) Berry. During her childhood, she lived in Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota. She was a member of the Girl Scouts in Tripp for 10 years. Jackie graduated from Tripp-Delmont High School in 2008. During her time there, her activities included membership in the flag corps, the yearbook staff and T.A.T.U. - “Teens Against Tobacco Usage.” Following high school, she worked for the Good Samaritan Society of Tripp and at a convenience store.

She was a member of Emmaus Lutheran Church where she was both baptized and confirmed. Following her injury in 2008, Jackie’s determination and courage were an inspiration to all who knew her. She died on Monday, July 18, 2011, at Brunswick, Missouri at the age of 21 years, 9 months, and 14 days.

Jackie’s memory will be cherished by her father and stepmother: Chad and Debrah Berry of Tripp; her mother and stepfather:  Tamara and Larry Henaman of Osage, Iowa; a sister, Amanda Berry of Osage, Iowa; two half-brothers: Ricky Hughes of Mason City, Iowa, and Caleb Berry and significant other Mandy Schmitt of Sioux Falls; a half-sister, Shina Conrad of Tyndall; three step-brothers: Aubry Peters of Lawrence, Kansas, Jack Henaman of Iowa City, Iowa and Collin Henaman of St. Louis Park, Minnesota; a step-sister, Amy Peters of Fort Collins, Colorado; paternal grandparents, Karen Albertson of Cassville, Missouri and Dallas (Donna) Berry of Owatonna, Minnesota; paternal stepgrandmother, Lupe Wells of Winfield, Kansas; maternal grandparents, Jim and Peggy Morris of Sun City, California; and maternal step-grandparents, Larry (LaDonna) Henaman of Osage, Iowa.

Preceding her in death were her paternal greatgrandparents, Ervin and Lela Zellmar; paternal stepgrandfathers, Merle Rohde and David Albertson.
Robert Dean Wolford memorial

Robert Dean Wolford, born on 1-27-32 in Clarion, IA, died on 7-24-11 in Reedley, CA; in his own words he is "Home at Last".

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Gertrude, children Linda and Jim Owens, Gail and Mark Hayward, Mike and Lana Wolford; grandchildren Jeff and Abby, Jeanette, Jonathan, Thomas Owens; Kent, Kevin and Laine Hayward; Michael, Matthew Wolford; great grandchild, Oliver Hayward; and sister Jeanne Mc Sweeney.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Sidney and Elnora Wolford.

Employed by Escondido Police Dept for 31 years, he retired in 1986 as Asst Chief of Police. He graduated from St Ansgar High School, the FBI Academy in Quanico, VA, and Chapman College (BA in Criminal Justice) in Orange, CA.

He was an active member of Rotary Club for 25 years, serving in various offices. An avid student of God's Word, the Bible, he loved to encourage family, friends and associates to know and serve Jesus Christ.

Memorial was held at Palm Village Chapel in Reedley, Saturday, July 30, 10:30 AM.
