Rogene E. Gordon

Rogene E. Gordon, 55, of Stacyville, died Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at her home.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 AM on Monday, November 28, 2011 at Deer Creek Lutheran Church, Carpenter with Rev. Lance Kittleson officiating. Burial was in First Lutheran Cemetery, St. Ansgar.

Rogene Elayne Gordon was born to Robert and Lucile (Warrington) Gunsallus, on November 29, 1955 in Osage, IA. Rogene graduated from RRMR High School in 1974. She attended the nursing program at NIACC and received her RN degree.

On September 14, 1982, she married Duane Gordon, and later divorced after 14 years. Rogene was a caring and compassionate nurse, working in various health care facilities. She was also a businesswoman, owning the 4 Star Lanes in Stacyville from 1994-1998.

Rogene enjoyed playing bingo, attending auctions, crocheting and was an excellent bowler until her health prevented her from competing. Rogene was an active member of Deer Creek Lutheran Church and various community activities, including Community Club. She loved to visit with family and friends, and provided transportation for many errands and appointments to family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother Lucile, and a brother Curtis.

Rogene is survived by her daughter Jamie Rose Gordon of Ames, father Robert Gunsallus of Osage, siblings Marsha Schultz, of Lapeer, MI; Holly (John) Van Heel of Fort Dodge; Ken Gunsallus of Dexter, MN and Beth (Russell) Rightmire of Willis, TX; five nieces Margaret Van Heel, Katherine Van Heel, Courtney Sedorchuk, Taylor Rightmire and Bobbi Gunsallus; many cousins and friends, and close friend Marcia Carlson.


Paul Sylver

Paul Sylver, 85, born in Bronx, New York, resident of Osage passed away Saturday evening, November 26th.

Paul is survived by wife, Rebecca, and extended family.

Graveside services are to be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at St. Peters Cemetery in Toeterville with Pastor Paul Brown officiating.

The First Baptist Church of Osage will hold a fellowship immediately following.
Paul D. Leidall

Paul D. Leidall “PD”, 87 of Osage Iowa (formerly St. Ansgar), died Friday, November 25, 2011 at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage with his wife, Melba and his four children by his side.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30AM on Friday, December 2nd at Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar with Rev. Dr. Byron Northwick officiating. Burial will be in St. Ansgar Cemetery, St. Ansgar with full military honors. Visitation will be from 4:30 to 7:00PM on Thursday, December 1st at Schroeder and Sites Funeral Home, 207 South School Street, St. Ansgar Iowa.

Paul Duane Leidall was born on April 18th, 1924, in Austin, Minnesota to Clifford and Clara (Reuter) Leidall. Two other children were born to this union Cleo (Leidall) Libersky of St. Ansgar and his late brother Myron (Mike) Leidall of Pomona, California.

Paul attended schools in Rose Creek and Mona area while working with his father on the family farm. In March 1944 Paul joined the U.S. Navy and completed his basic training in Idaho. He served as a gunners mate while assigned to the battleship U.S.S. West Virginia. Deployed to the South Pacific and primarily involved in battles in the Philippines. He was discharged in April 1946.

Paul was united in marriage to LoRetta Myhre at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa on June 29, 1947. This union was blessed with four children. Paul was hired by the Interstate Power Company in 1947 as an electrical service man; later promoted to service representative for the St. Ansgar region. In part, one responsibility was reading meters, as a result came to know almost everyone in the communities of St. Ansgar, Lyle and Mitchell.

One of his favorite jobs was hanging the city Christmas lights every year. He retired in 1986 after 39 years. Passionate and dedicated to the American Legion Post 358, he volunteered countless hours. He truly enjoyed the camaraderie and membership for sixty-five years. Paul’s hobbies included camping, golfing and playing pool and cards with friends.

Curious by how things worked he loved puttering in his shop building motor scooters, go-carts, trailers and finally a motor home. Paul cherished his children, grand-children and great grandchildren and loved spending time with them. Paul was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church and also attended Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Osage.

On July 19th, 1993, Paul wed Melba Mayer of Osage. Paul and Melba spent many memorable times together traveling, golfing and playing cards with friends and family.

Survivors include his wife, Melba (Mayer) Leidall, Osage; two sons, Terry of St. Ansgar; and Dennis (Skeet) Leidall of Santa Barbara, California; two daughters, Debbi (Leidall) Shouman of La Quinta, California and Tori (Leidall) Lowe of La Quinta, California; Eight grandchildren; Nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Cleo (Leidall) Libersky, St. Ansgar; and several nieces and nephews.

Paul is preceded in death by his wife, LoRetta, daughter in law, Marcia (Johnson)Leidall; parents, Clara and Clifford, and brother, Myron (Mike).
LaRayne E. Kleckner

LaRayne E. Kleckner, 83, of St. Ansgar died Sunday, November 27, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Center, St. Ansgar where she had been a resident for the past 2.5 years.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, December 2011 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Osage with Father Jack McClure, CPPS officiating. Burial will be in St. Ansgar Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 5:00-7:00 PM at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, 207 S. School Street, St. Ansgar.

LaRayne Esther Attlesey Kleckner was born October 23, 1928 to Harry and Isabel (Webber) Attlesey in Stacyville, IA. At an early age, her family moved to Lyle, MN where she attended school, graduating in 1946.

On July 1, 1947, she was united in marriage to Raymond Kleckner at Sacred Heart Church, Osage. They lived on a farm near Little Cedar before moving to rural St. Ansgar where they continued to farm until moving into St. Ansgar in 1974.

LaRayne was a housewife for several years until began working Al Jordan’s Gamble store, St. Ansgar and Dr. Smith’s office in Stacyville. She then worked for Dr. John Lafferty in St. Ansgar until her retirement in 1993. LaRayne and Raymond loved to travel, especially enjoying their visit to Italy to see Larry and his family in 1985. They also traveled to Texas, Colorado and California many times to visit family.

LaRayne was a woman of great faith and was an active member of the St. Ansgar Catholic Church. She served as an officer for the Rural Mail Carriers Auxiliary Association for several years. She was active in the American Legion Auxiliary and was a member of the Chat & Stitch Club.

She enjoyed going on bus trips with her friends and the occasional day trips to casinos. Family reunions were great fun. She made the best potato salad and fried chicken. LaRayne was always interested in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s activities and wanted to be kept up to date on each of them. They will truly miss her.

LaRayne is survived by her son Larry Kleckner and wife Renee of Garland, TX; her daughter Susan Hartwig and husband Andy of Northwood, IA; her grandchildren Tom and Lisa Hartwig of Gowrie, IA, Kerry Hartwig of Mason City, IA, Scott Kleckner of Garland, TX, Paula (Charles) Schandelmeier of Melissa, TX, and Rex (Andrea) Kleckner of Garland, TX; great-grandchildren Chase and Chad Schandelmeier, Jordan Hartwig and great-great granddaughter Astoria; aunt Wanda Attlesey of Rochester, MN; sister-in-law Jane Attlesey of Lyle, MN, sisters-in-law Bernice Paulson, Leona Kleckner, Frances Kleckner, Mary Schwalbe and brothers-in law Jim Kleckner and Bill (Kristen) Kleckner.

LayRayne was preceded in death by her parents, husband Raymond in 1987, brother Ronald in 2010 and several brothers and sisters-in-law.

Mom, you are now free to take those deep breaths you yearned for… God has chosen to give you much needed rest. You will be missed and cherished forever.
Kermit Huebner

Kermit Irving Huebner, age 85, died Wednesday, December 14, 2011, at his home in Grafton, surrounded by his family, after a short battle with brain cancer.

Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, December 19, 2011, at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Grafton with Pastor Mark Decker officiating. Following the memorial service, there will be a time for lunch and fellowship at the church. Private family inurnment services will be held at the Grafton Cemetery at a later date. There will be a flag presentation by Grafton American Legion Post 616.

Kermit Huebner was born June 18, 1926, in rural Grafton, to Irving and Lilly (Tabbert) Huebner. He graduated from Grafton High School in 1944. Kermit served in the U.S. Army, spending a year in Germany.

He worked for Western Union, Grafton Implement, Sugar Beet, and Waters Electronics. He also worked in the trucking business, and later started his own radio and television business and a paint contracting business.

He was currently employed as the caretaker and groundskeeper for the Grafton Cemetery. Kermit was a volunteer fireman for 15 years, served on the town council, was a member of various boards for the Emmanuel Church, and was a member of the American Legion.

Kermit married Elaine Bublitz on August 6, 1950, in Grafton and together they raised four daughters. His greatest love after family was music. Kermit was well known throughout northern Iowa for his musical talent. Kermit and his keyboard were often seen at celebrations which included Turkey Days, area nursing homes, and several Kensett Variety Shows. He was also a member of the “Rhythm Masters” band.

Kermit had a great talent in woodworking and enjoyed crafting furniture for his family.

Kermit is survived by his wife, Elaine of Grafton; his daughters, Jeannine (Bob) Peterson of St. Ansgar, Deborah (Gary Orth) Huebner of Zimmerman, Minnesota, Cheryl Huebner of St. Ansgar, and Pat (Mike) Clark of St. Ansgar; sister, Darlene Greenway of Sebring, Florida; mother-in-law, Lucille Bublitz of St. Ansgar; brother- in-law, David (Debby) Bublitz of Carpenter; his good friend and cousin, Dale (Carol) Huebner of Mason City; and his special furry friend, Henry. Proud to call him “Grandpa” are Ara (Corey) Lotzer, Arik (Shelly) Peterson, Matthew Kleckner, Luke (Jhumki) Kleckner, Christina (Mike) Hultman, John Kleckner, Joe (Kara) Walk, Sam Walk, Josh (Amy) Walk, Taya Walk, Michael Schaub and friend Liz Urbatsch, Harmony Clark, and ten great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his father-in-law, Harold Bublitz.

Ardis “Ardie” Dieterich

Ardis Dieterich, age 86, of Osage, died Wednesday, December 14, 2011, at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 17, 2011, at Rock Creek Lutheran Church, 3269 Foothill Avenue, Osage, with Rev. R. Dawson Tornes officiating. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Friday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.

Ardis Carol Dieterich was born September 13, 1925, in Mitchell County. She was the daughter of Myron and Pearl (Olsen) Maakestad. Ardie was baptized and confirmed and was a lifelong member of Rock Creek Lutheran Church, rural Osage.

She attended rural school and graduated from Osage High School in 1944. After graduation, she was employed by Northwestern Bell Telephone Company.

On November 2, 1946, she was united in marriage to Fred Dieterich of Rudd, Iowa, at Rock Creek Lutheran Church. This marriage was blessed with three sons, Maurice, Michael and Jim.

Fred and Ardie farmed in the St. Ansgar area until 1987 when they retired and moved to Osage. She enjoyed many types of music, hand work, cooking and baking. Ardie and Fred enjoyed their family and going to see their grandchildren in all of their activities. She also appreciated her many good friends and neighbors.

Ardie is survived by her husband, Fred Dieterich of Osage; her son, Maurice (Dianne) Dieterich of Shelby Township, Michigan, and sons, Nathan and Nikolas; her son, Michael (Lori) Dieterich of Burlington, and sons, Gregory and Matthew; her son, Jim (Ruth) Dieterich of Galesburg, Illinois, and children, William, Joel and Kristina.

She is also survived by one brother, Gene (Barbara) Maakestad of Osage; one niece; three nephews; and one sister-in-law, Betty Dieterich of Osage.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Ardis Kathleen; and one brother-in-law, Hubert Dieterich.

Walter Adams

Walter Joseph Adams, age 80, of Stacyville, passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2011, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 31, 2011, at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville, Iowa, with Father Jack McClure, CPPS, officiating. Burial will be in Visitation Catholic Cemetery with military honors at the grave by American Legion Hale Penney Fuller Post 569 of Stacyville. Friends may greet the family from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville with a rosary at 4:30 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour before services at the church on Saturday.

Walter was born April 24, 1931, at Stacyville, Iowa, to Ernest and Clara (Thome) Adams. He graduated from Visitation High School in Stacyville in 1949. He worked for a water tower painting company in Cresco, Iowa right out of high school, and Hatten and Sons and Stacyville Lumber Company when he returned from serving his country.

He served in battle during the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1953 when he was honorably discharged.

On April 24, 1954, he married Joan Ulven of Austin, Minnesota, at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville. Walter began his own painting and decorating business in 1963, painting barns, houses, interior decorating, interiors of area churches and lettering signs.

Walter served on the Stacyville Fire Department for 60 years and was very proud of the new fire station. He served as Chaplain of the American Legion Hale Penney Fuller Post 569 of Stacyville, taking care to put out the flags on Memorial Day and kept records of the cemetery plots.

He served as a Cub Scout Leader for several years, receiving the Scouter’s Key. He served on the Commercial Club and was instrumental in the formation of the annual Stacyville Bratwurst Daze when the carnival came to town. Following in his father’s footsteps, he was the custodian of the Stacyville Cemetery located west of Stacyville and took pride in its upkeep and gathering history of those buried there.

Walter’s favorite holiday was Christmas, enjoying seeing generations of children visiting with Santa for over 60 years. He enjoyed getting together with his family every Friday night for beer and cards.

Walter is survived by his wife, Joan Adams of Stacyville; his children, Julie (Allyn) Brumm of Stacyville, Janet (Gerry) Probst of Appleton Wisconsin, Jay (Mary) Adams of Stacyville, Jude (Kenny) Adams of Stacyville, Jo (Brian) Saltou of Riceville, and Julene (Randy) Mueller of Stacyville; grandchildren, Corissa Meek, Allison Hemann, Scott Brumm, Michelle Gossen, Carie Fischer, Candi Probst, Cathy Rosenow, Paula Beyer, Kyle Adams, Kory Adams, Kelly Adams, Ray Mueller, Sarah Mueller; great-grandchildren, Jordan and Alexis Meek, Raelei and Austin Hemann, Bryanna Vokoun, Abbey, Avery and Aidan Gossen, Anna Hatton and Gavin Fischer, Breahna and A.J. Rosenow, Spencer and Madison Beyer.

He is also survived by a brother, Ted (Carol) Adams of Rochester, Minnesota; sisters, Theresa (Dale) Mauer, Louise Walk and Veronica (Ken) Koenigs, all of Stacyville; brothers-in-law, Duane Ulven of Austin, Minnesota and Donald (Marion) Ulven of Buffalo, Missouri, sisters-in-law, Jane Gerbig of Stacyville and Sherry (Darrell) Kroneman of Austin, Minnesota; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Eugene Adams; a brother-in-law, Larry Walk; and a nephew and a niece.
