Gene Burdette Skaar, age 87, of Osage, died Thursday, October 31, 2013, at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 4, 2013, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage with Iowa Hospice Chaplain Patience Hewitt officiating. Following the memorial service, there will be a time for lunch and fellowship at the American Legion Hall in Osage. Inurnment will be at Prairie View Cemetery in Paullina, Iowa, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be directed to Faith Lutheran Home, 914 Davidson Drive, Osage, Iowa, or your favorite charity.
Gene Burdette Skaar was born March 23, 1926, near Gaza, Iowa, the son of Ben and Gladys (Hagen) Skaar. He spent his youth years in the Gaza area. From 1948 to 1950, Gene continued his education at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He then attended the University of Iowa from 1950 to 1953, graduating with his B.S. Degree in Pharmacy in 1953. Gene served for two years in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict as a pharmacist in the 44th MASH Unit, Post 26, in Korea. Gene and Eleanor owned Skaar?s Pharmacy and Hallmark Shop in Osage from 1967 to 1985.
They lived in Mesa, Arizona from 1993 to 2011, where Gene continued to work as a relief pharmacist. In May of 2011, due to health issues, they returned to Osage, where Gene later became a resident of the Faith Lutheran Home. While in business, Gene was active in Kiwanis Club and the Osage Chamber of Commerce. He also served as secretary of Our Savior?s Lutheran Church Council. Gene was an avid Hawkeye fan and enjoyed painting, carving and golf. He will be remembered for the special poems that he wrote for friends on various occasions.
Gene is survived by his wife, Eleanor Skaar of Osage; his sons, Daniel (Debra) Skaar of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, and Mark Skaar of Murrieta, California; four granddaughters, Megan Skaar, and Jessica, Jacqueline and Justine Skaar; brother, Harlan (Sheryl) Skaar; and sister-in-law, Lois Skaar.
He was preceded in death by a beloved daughter, Peggy Jean (February 14-March 5, 1951); his parents; and a brother, Elroy Skaar.

Joseph Peter Schwab

Joseph Peter Schwab, 70, of Mason City and formerly of Osage, died
Sunday, November 3, 2013 at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 7, 2013,
at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage with Father Raymond Burkle
officiating. A flag presentation by St. Ansgar American Legion Post 358
and Osage V.F.W. Post 7920 will take place at the church. There will be
a time for lunch and fellowship following the Memorial Mass at the K.C.
Hall in Osage. There will be a gathering of family and friends from 5:00
to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage with
a rosary at 5:30 p.m.
Inurnment with military honors at the grave will be at a later date
at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa.
Joe was born on January 15, 1943, in Osage, Iowa, to Adolph and Jean
(Adams) Schwab. Joe had two brothers (his best friends) David (Kathleen)
and Bob (Audrey) as well as sisters Pat and Sandra. He graduated from
St. Ansgar High School in 1962 and joined the Marine Corps. Joe served
in the Vietnam War. He returned to St. Ansgar as a proud veteran and
graduated from Waterloo Barber School in Waterloo, Iowa. Joe was a
supervisor at the Chrysler Assembly Plant in Belvedere, Illinois. He
also owned and ran JP?s Barber Shop for many years and continued to
cut hair until two months prior to his death.
He was an active member of many organizations including a lifetime member
of Osage V.F.W. Post 7920, Marine Corps Association, St. Ansgar American
Legion Post 358, lifetime member of Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter
790, Knights of Columbus 3rd degree member of Council 4308, Disabled
American Veterans, and Marine Corps Association and Foundation.
Joe was also a very active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church
of Osage. Joe was married to Marilyn Gragert on June 2, 2000, in
Charles City, Iowa. Joe enjoyed spending every moment with the love
of his life, his Honey Bunches, Marilyn, whether it was traveling to
Las Vegas or enjoying their back patio with a glass of wine and friends.
Although they enjoyed only 16 years of companionship, they acted as
newlyweds every day. He had many loves in his life, including his beloved
Chicago Bears and Iowa Hawkeyes. He enjoyed farming with Monty and Terry
and keeping a very meticulous yard and garden. He spent time doing carpentry
and socializing through his profession of being a barber. Joe?s blue eyes
always twinkled for his three little granddaughters, Sydney, Alexa, and Lila.
Joe was greeted in heaven by his parents, Adolph and Jean Schwab
as well as his nephew, Ron Rodemaker.
Joe is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn, and five children: Anita
Schwab, Jill Schwab, John Paul (Kristi) Jones, Matthew (Valerie) Jones,
and Lucas (Meleah) Jones, as well as five grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren.
A special thank you to the VA Clinic Staff of Mason City for all of
your "Hi Joe!'s" and love and support of Marilyn. Additional thanks go to
Hospice nurse Angela, Dr. Weissinger, Sue Porter, Mark the oxygen guy, Dr.
Vemula and nurse Kelsey from the Cancer Center, Dr. Ross and staff, Dr.
Tesar, Lisa and Father Neil of Epiphany Parish.
Goodbye dear friends: Dudley, Carol, Glenda, Rhea, Schurtzi, Jim Johns,
John Lacoste, Jim Butler, Mike Woodhouse and next-door neighbor Ron. Semper

Eugene "Gene" Troge

Eugene "Gene" Troge, age 86, of Osage, passed away Friday, November
8, 2013, at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 18, 2013,
at St. Johns Lutheran Church, 1921 317th Street, south of Osage, with
Pastors Clarke Frederick and Byron Northwick officiating. Burial will
be in the Calvary Cemetery with military honors by the Osage American
Legion Post 278 and Osage VFW Post 7920. Visitation is from 4-6 p.m.
Sunday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.
Gene was born June 28, 1927, in Rudd Township, Floyd County, on the
Troge homestead south of Osage, the son of Arthur and Lynda (Bahnsen)
Troge. He attended a rural school in Rudd Township and graduated from
Orchard High School in 1946. Gene served in the U.S. Army during the
Korean Conflict from December 1950 to November 1952. He became a member
of both the Osage American Legion Post 278 and the Osage V.F.W. Post 7920.
Gene married his soul mate Dorothy Dieterich on June 20, 1954. Dorothy
passed away on July 28, 1977. An avid Hawkeye fan, Gene founded the Osage
"I" Club. Gene was active on the Mitchell County Concert Series Board and
served as membership chairman since 1976. He also served on the Faith
Lutheran Nursing Home Board for over 20 years. Gene was a life member
of St. John?s Lutheran Church, where he held many offices. He was also
on the Calvary Cemetery Board, where Gene will be buried near the church.
Gene is survived by his sister, Audrey (Wayne) Benson of Centennial,
Colorado; a niece, Janeen Benson of Centennial, Colorado; a nephew, Ashley
Benson of Dallas, Texas; and many cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Dorothy.

David Louis Fox
NEW HAVEN, IOWA - David Fox, 72, of New Haven, died Sunday, November
10, 2013, at Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage.
According to David's wishes, his body has been donated to the Mayo
Clinic with hope that his gift will assist research.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, at
St. Peters Catholic Church in New Haven with Rev. Steve Garner officiating.
There will be a gathering of family and friends from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the
Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage. Inurnment will be at a later date
at St. Peter?s Cemetery.
David was born May 11, 1941, in Osage, the son of Casper and Bertha
(Kehoe) Fox. He graduated as valedictorian of his class from St. Mary's
Academy in New Haven. David farmed in the New Haven area until 1982 and
then drove truck. He was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church and the
Osage American Legion. He enjoyed traveling, stock car races, and loved
visiting with people. David was admired by his sons for his work ethic.
David is survived by four sons, Chet Fox and daughters, Allison,
Kaylie and Hannah of Greene, Andy (Sheila) Fox and children, Katerina
and Christopher of Ionia, Ben Fox of Dubai, UAE, Justin (Breanna) Fox
and daughters, Jaycee and Joselyn of New Haven; three sisters, Sister
Bertha Fox of Dubuque, Janice Janes of Richardson, Texas, Ellen (Edward)
Dunn of Minneapolis, Minn.; and many extended relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Daniel Fox, in
infancy; daughter-in-law, Jamie Fox; and brother-in-law, Don Janes.

Betty F. (Hungerford) DeMar
BURNSVILLE, MINNESOTA - Betty F. DeMar (Hungerford) of Burnsville,
Minnesota, passed away into The Lord's hands on Saturday November 16, 2013.
Betty was born in Osage, Iowa, on November 30, 1927, to the late Roy and
Winnie Hungerford. Betty graduated from Osage High School in 1945. Betty
lived most of her adult life in Bloomington, Minnesota, while working for
nearly 30 years for Bloomington Public Schools. Betty was a member of St.
Richard's Catholic Church.
Betty is survived by her son, Jeff DeMar and wife Jeri; grandson, Mike
DeMar and wife Tracy; and granddaughter, Maggie DeMar; along with
sister-in-law Wilma Hungerford and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Betty in death are her daughter, Vicky Abrevaya; mother
and father; along with her brothers Jean Hungerford, Charles Hungerford,
his wife Neva, along with their daughter Mary Mackelprang (Hungerford) and
John "Jim" Hungerford.
Funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage,
Iowa, on Wednesday Nov. 20, 2013, at noon. A visitation will be held
from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 19, 2013, at Washburn-McReavy Funeral

Timothy Richard Seckar

Newton, Iowa - Timothy Richard Seckar, 65, of Newton died on Saturday,
November 16, 2013, at 3:29 P.M.
The son of Joseph and Deloras (Barrett) Seckar, Tim was born June 15,
1948 in Osage, Iowa. He grew up a river rat in Mitchell, Iowa. He then
moved to Newton, Iowa where he and Deb raised their family. Tim was an
over the road truck driver for 34 years, the last 15 years as an owner
operator. Tim was a Vietnam War Marine veteran.
He enjoyed spending time with family, working on his semi and riding
motorcycle. Tim enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren who softened
and warmed his heart.
Tim is survived by his wife, Deb Seckar; five children, Timothy
"Timmy" Seckar, Jr. of Princeton, North Carolina, Tammy Seckar of
Princeton, North Carolina, Travis (Shelby) Healey of Kellogg, Iowa,
Richard ?Rick? (Jenn) Healey of Clarksville, Tennessee, and Crystal
Seckar of Newton; his nine grandchildren, Brooke, Ronald, Chase,
Dakota, Melanie, Kyle, Harley, Wyatt, and Mikalah; four sisters,
Lil (Glenn) Abelson, Doloras DeMaray, Ann Johnston, and Lisa (Steve) Colby;
his one brother, Philip (Diane) Seckar; and several other family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Seckar and Deloras
Barrett; sister, Kathy Seckar; and best friend and cousin, Patrick Barrett.

Paul Warren ?Hooter? Davis
MOUNTAIN VIEW, ARKANSAS - Paul Warren "Hooter" Davis, 59, of Mountain
View, Arkansas, died on Sunday, November 3, 2013, as a result of a fatal
car accident.
Paul was born on August 19, 1954 in Osage to Warren and June Davis. He
resided in Osage into adulthood where he obtained his GED and received his
welding certificate through NIACC. He married Teresa Baldwin of Osage in
1975 and the couple had one child, Jennifer. The family moved to Texas in
1981 and the couple later divorced.
In 1992, Paul met Brenda Chetister of Mountain View, Arkansas. The
couple married the following year, making Mountain View their home with
Brenda's three children ? Charles, Jonathan, and Angela Lewis. For a brief
time, the family moved to Iowa residing in Stacyville, but later returned
to Mountain View.
Throughout life, Paul held various jobs in construction, factory work,
and propane delivery. He also saw much of the country as a truck driver. He
will be remembered for his passion for motorcycles and living his life on
his own terms.
At the time of his death, Paul was survived by his wife of 20 years,
Brenda; a daughter Jennifer (Mike Adams) Blaha of Osage; step-sons Charles
Lewis of Mountain View, Arkansas, and Jonathan (Amanda) of Mountain View,
Arkansas, and a step-daughter Angela Lewis of Mountain View, Arkansas;
two sisters Karen (Clint) Sutton of Hastings, Minn. and Ruth (Fred)
Lehmann of Mason City; brother Michael (Laura) Davis of Waterloo;
brother-in-law Paul Frascht; several grandchildren including Dominique
Adams, Jasmine and Emma Blaha of Osage; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother June Davis; father and step-mother
Warren and Sally Davis; sisters Cheryl Frascht and Michelle Davis.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 7, at 2 p.m. at First
United Methodist.
