Donald E. Patrick

Don was born on January 24, 1932 in Havre, Montana, to Charles Richard and Sadie Ina (Gale) Patrick. Youngest of 16 children (13 boys, three girls), and the only one born in a hospital. Don attended the Rudyard rural school, graduated from Havre High School, and attended two years at Havre University studying architecture.

He met Ann L. Christenson at church in Havre, Montana and later at Seattle, Washington, at the National Luther League Convention. They were engaged in November 1951, and married in March 21, 1952, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Minneapolis, Minnesota. He farmed for two years at Goldstone, Montana, and then moved to Grafton, Iowa, where they bought a farm from the Lutheran Church. In addition, Don sold Hy-Line chickens, grain bin equipment, and MoorMan's feed, and whitewashed barns.

Together Don and Ann raised their six children; Debby, Danny, Dwight, David, Diane, & Donna. Their travels included Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, California, Florida, New Orleans; the 1967 World Expo in Montreal, Canada; and traveled to Japan with the Bridge of Fellowship Tour in 1977. For several years, Don chaperoned church H.S. students, including a few of his children, on missionary trips to northern Mexico.

Don retired from Moorman's Feed Company after 32 years in the fall of 1992. From 1990-1994, he traveled throughout Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Liechtenstein, Germany, and San Marino. In 1995, he enjoyed touring with his siblings and some nieces/nephews to England, crossing the English Channel (The Chunnel) at Dover, UK, to France and then Italy. May 2001 Don & Ann enjoyed a cruise ship to Alaska, which included a train trip to Denali National Park.

Don and Ann were proud to be the first couple in their family to be married 60 years.

Don actively supported many roles throughout the years and was a faithful member of the Lutheran Church. In Don's words "PRAISE THE LORD!"

Don is preceded in death by his wife Ann, parents and 12 brothers and a sister.

Don is survived by six children; Debby (Donald) Arrett, Gordonsville, Minnesota, Daniel (Dan) Patrick, Grafton, Dwight Patrick, Denver, Colorado, David Patrick, Carpenter, Diane (Robert) Ackerman, Highland, WI, Donna (Ramon) Tirado, Colorado Springs, Colorado; nine grandchildren; Chad Patrick, Clear Lake, Shelly Patrick, Denver, CO, Teresa Suydam, Denver, CO, Tylor Patrick, Osage, Kendra Ackerman (friend Kevin Kruse), Loganville, WI, Nathan Ackerman, Milwaukee, WI, Kenneth Ackerman, Loganville, WI, Ramon Triado Jr. fiance Erin, Woodstock, GA, Daniel Triado, Colorado Springs, CO. five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Phyllis Gagnon of Chester, MT, Ruth Meredith of Havre, MT; and many nieces and nephews.

Adeline Blanche Beinke

Mason City, Iowa - Adeline Blanche Beinke, 88, Mason City, formerly of Mesa, Arizona, died Monday, April 1, 2013, at the Good Shepherd Health Care Center in Mason City.

A celebration of life service for Adeline will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, April 6, 2013, at the Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd Street N.E., Mason City, with Pastor Kent Mechler Chaplin at Good Shepherd Health Center officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Manly Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service time on Saturday at the chapel.

Adeline Blanche Beinke was born on September 26, 1924 in Cedar Township, Mitchell county, Iowa, the daughter of Andrew and Ida Mary (Seffinga) Anderson. In her early years, Adeline remained at home to help raise her brothers and sisters. Adeline worked for Decker's Meat Packing Company in Mason City until its' closing, and in her early 50's she earned her GED, and continued her college education at N.I.A.C.C. in Mason City, receiving her LPN degree. Adeline began her career working at Mercy Hospital and continued her nursing career in Roswell, New Mexico, before retiring in Mesa, Arizona. After her retirement, she worked at a craft shop, and had her own craft whows in her retirement community in Mesa, and also enjoyed bowling and gardening.

Adeline loved and enjoyed being a Girl Scout Leader for many years.

She was united in marriage to Myron Beinke and lived in Clear Lake, until Myron built their home in Mason City, and to this marriage three daughters were born, Janice, Peggy, and Barbara.

Adeline moved to Fort Dodge in January of 2009 to the Marion Home, and then moved to Good Shepherd in Mason City in 2011 to be close to family and friends.

While living in Mason City she was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church where she belonged to a church circle, taught Sunday school, and was a member of a bridge club.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Peggy (Jim) Bingham of Aurora, CO, and Barbara (Nick) Stricker of Fort Dodge; her grandchildren, Cathy Carl, Christy (Chase) Moser, Rick (Michelle) Carl, Jenny (Billy) Willis, Allison (John) Zelm, Elizabeth (Thomas) Keagy, Joe (Barb) Stricker, Julie Stricker, and Jon (Lisa) Stricker; her great-grandchildren, Eric, William and Joshua Carl, Jessica, Trinity, and Jake Willis, Analise, Weston, and Jace Zelm, Abby and T.J. Keagy, Zack, Blake, Cody, Deegan, Skyler, and Kia Stricker; Her brothers and sisters, Kate (Ray) Christianson, of Marshaltown, Glen (Elida) Anderson of Austin, TX, and Arne (Sylvia) Anderson of Sunrise, AZ, and Melvin (Joice) Anderson of Ionia; as well as many nieces, nephews, and many other extended family members and friends.

Adeline was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Janice; her sisters, Gladys (Frank) Brych, Darlene (Marvin) Buckmaster, and Bernice (Walter) Peterson.

St. Ansgar, Iowa - Sharon Ann Blake, 70, of St. Ansgar, died on Wednesday, April 10, 2013, in Rochester, Minnesota.

Mass of Christian burial will take place on Monday, April 15, at 10:30 a.m. at Visitation Catholic Church, Stacyville, with Msgr. John Hemann officiating. Burial will be in the Visitation Cemetery, Stacyville.

Obituary:

Sharon was born on July 14, 1942, the daughter of John and Adeline (Boss) O'Marro in Austin, Minnesota. She was very proud of playing the flute in the Austin High School band and worked at Hormel prior to her marriage. She married Walter Blake on June 10, 1967. They farmed near Stacyville until 1990 when they moved to St. Ansgar. They recently celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary in June of last year.

Prior to that, they experienced the marriage of their youngest daughter at sea aboard the Celebrity Eclipse which toured the Caribbean in February last year. This past January, she was gifted with the birth of her sixth grandchild, Silas Courtney Reese, son of Shane And Susan (Blake) Reese.

Sharon enjoyed reading, watching Fox Cable News, crossword puzzles, jig-saw puzzles, computer solitaire and spending time with her friends, "the Grannies" at the 4th Street Cafe. She was an interested amateur genealogist and would often enjoy taking trips with her sister, Barb, to South Dakota to investigate their O'Marro and Boss family history.

While Sharon's children were young, she volunteered her time at the Visitation Grade School and as a Sunday School teacher. She also worked at the Stacyville Nursing Home for many years. Sharon also worked at the Food Center in St. Ansgar before her retirement in 2005.

Sharon was a member of the Visitation Catholic Church, Stacyville and was active in regular Bible study with the St. Isidore Catholic Community's women's group. In more recent years, she enjoyed traveling and spending time with her grandchildren never missing an opportunity to stop at an unfamiliar antique store with husband in tow.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, John Walter Blake as well as a sister and brother, Barbara Kath and Lanny O'Marro; sister in law, Germaine Blake and niece Nicole Kath; uncle and aunt Kent and Judy Keyser and cousin Judy Keyser.

Sharon is survived by her husband, Walter; sons Dennis Blake, Raymond Blake; daughters Cynthia (Greg) Yokanovich, Linda (Luis) Lampon and Susan (Shane) Reese; she was a proud grandmother of six, including Enrique, Catherine, Ileana, Spencer, Evelyn and Silas; brothers-in-law, Dave Kath, Willard Blake, Don and Jean Blake, Chuck and Myrna Blake, Roger and Betty Blake, Glenn and Pat Blake; Blake nieces and nephews, Debra, Diane, Mark, Sandra, Sharon, Mary Beth, Dave, Craig, Connie, Russell, Becky, Vicki, Jeff, Deena and Rodney; O'Marro nieces and nephews, Laura, Lana, Tammy, Jeff, Jamie and Perrin.

Floyd McKenna

Floyd McKenna, age 94, of Osage, Iowa, died Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 15, 2013, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage with Pastor Gary Gilbert officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery at Riceville, Iowa. Visitation is from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home.

Floyd was born September 13, 1918, on the home farm near David, Iowa, the son of Arthur and Oril (Harrington) McKenna. He attended Riceville High School. On March 15, 1943, he married Lillian Barenz at her parents' home near McIntire, Iowa. They farmed the century family farm near David. Floyd was a member of David Community Church all of his life and was baptized by immersion at an early age. He was a deacon of the church and Sunday school treasurer for many years.

Floyd was an avid reader. He studied and showed much admiration and respect for many of the individuals that shaped the world, such as Thomas Edison and Charles Lindbergh. Floyd enjoyed all trains, especially steam trains, steam engines and threshing machines. He also enjoyed telling "true stories" about days past and his life and writing daily in his diary. He loved to garden and got many compliments on his gardening skills. Floyd loved his chocolate chip cookies and chocolate candy bars. He enjoyed his time spent with his beloved wife of 70 years and his family.

Floyd is survived by his wife, Lillian of Osage; his children, Ruth (Roger) Stark of Osage, Allen (Margaret) McKenna of Riceville, Dorothy (James) Saltou of Waukon, Glen (Bonnie) McKenna of Chester; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Grace McKenna; his granddaughter, Lori (McKenna) Livingston; grandson-in-law, Bill Decker; and two cousins, Euna Erickson and Frank Hollenberger.

Arleen Frances Nelson

Arleen Frances Nelson, 88, passed away on April 9, 2013, surrounded by her family.

She was born on June 7, 1924, in Renova, Minnesota, to Royal and Ida Cross Lagervall. Arleen grew up in Elkton, Minnesota. She graduated from Elkton High School in 1942. After high school she earned a certificate in cosmetology and also worked for Twin City Federal. During World War II she worked in the defense plant. Arleen met Erling (Bud) Nelson on the dance floor of the Terp Ballroom and they married in 1955 in Osage. They lived in several states before settling in Jefferson, Iowa, where they owned and operated the 4-N Drive Inn until they retired. Arleen was a member of First United Methodist Church. She was active in veteran's organizations and served as the Iowa State DAV Auxiliary Commander. Her free time activities included traveling, bridge and visiting family.

Arleen was preceded in death by their son Brad: also by her parents, brother Don, sister Babe, and great-granddaughter Isabel.

Arleen is survived by her spouse, Erling, of Jefferson; her daughters, Paula (Gary) Rabine and Rande (David) Garnett, both of St. Louis Park, Minnesota; her sister Yvonne (Nels) Lee of Blooming Prarie, Minnesota; her grandchildren Abigail, Samantha, Alexander, Matthew, Brigitte, Joanna, Jon and Meri; her great-grandchildren Olivia, Blake, Gavin and Kevin; and her nieces and nephews and other relatives.

Obituary--

Alton was born August 5, 1917, at Park Rapids, Minnesota, to Clarence and Lydia (Larsen) Halvorson. At age three, the family moved to St. Ansgar, Iowa, where he attended school and graduated in 1935. He was a lifelong member of First Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar. After high school he worked for area farmers and hauled cream for the local creamery.

He joined the army in March 1941 where he was involved for 55 months with the 113 Calvary Division and Signal Corp. He served in Central Europe in Belgium, Germany, Italy and France, where he took part in the Normandy Invasion. He received the Bronze Star for Heroic Action and also a Good Conduct medal while attaining the rank of Sargeant. In 1996 the French President came to Iowa and personally presented Alton a gold medal and plaque for his participation in the French liberation. Following his honorable discharge in 1945, he started farming north of St. Ansgar and lived there his entire life.

He was an active 4-H leader, church deacon, Chairman of First Lutheran Church building committee, member of the Iowa Corn Growers, Registered Holstein Association, and the American Legion.

Alton Halvorson and Allene Rosenberg were united in marriage March 23, 1946, at Rock Creek Lutheran Church, rural St. Ansgar.

Alton is survived by his wife, Allene, sons Wayne (Kathy) Halvorson of Chatfield, Minnesota, and Curt (Annette) Halvorson of St. Ansgar along with seven grandchildren, Kimberly (Andy) deLeon, Lakeville, Minnesota, Brian (Emily) Halvorson, Eyota, Minnesota, Ben (Jennifer) Halvorson, Chatfield, Minnesota, Julie (Mike) Sogla, Northfield, Minnesota, and Nick (Anna) Halvorson, Thomas (Leah) Halvorson and Valerie (Cory) Johnson all of St. Ansgar, and 14 great grandchildren. Also surviving is his sister-in-law, Betty Halvorson of Casa Grande, Arizona.

Alton was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Gerald Halvorson, Casa Grande, Arizona, and his sister Esther Quam, Minneapolis, MN. Also preceding him in death were brothers/sisters-in-laws Roy & Savera Rosenberg, Lawrence & Esther Rosenberg, Elmer & Pearl Rosenberg, Rueben Rosenberg, Harvey & Irene Boettcher, and Melvin Quam.

Robert George Riehm

AMES, IOWA - Robert George Riehm, 69, of Ames and formerly of Carpenter, died on Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center, St. Ansgar.

The family is planning a private family service. Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home of St. Ansgar is in charge of arrangements.

Robert was born on June 8, 1943 in Mason City, to O.K. and Laura (McPeak) Riehm. He graduated from the Carpenter High School, Carpenter, in 1961. He joined the U.S. Navy, serving his country for 25 years. Robert enjoyed fishing, hunting, cooking and canning. He had fond memories of playing near Deer Creek. Robert was a member of the Walter T. Ennenberg Post #358 of the American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grand parents; three brothers-in-law, Al Levenhagen, Bill Harrington and Melvin Wilde; one sister-in-law, Beverly Riehm.

Robert is survived by a son, Robert G. Riehm II of Scottsdale, Arizona; daughter Jolie S. MITCHELL - Charles Whitesides, 94, of Mitchell, died Wednesday, October 17, 2012, at Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage.

He was born May 4, 1918, in Griffin, Georgia, the son of Walter and Nora (Pye) Whitesides. Charles married De Lone Bronner on March 15, 1978, in Reno, Nevada.

Charles served in the U.S. Air Force for 32 years, retiring with the rank of chief master sergeant. He served in World War II, two tours of duty in Vietnam, and his last deployment was with the Strategic Air Command. Charles enjoyed fishing and his pets.

Charles is survived by his wife De Lone of Mitchell; daughter, Caila (Ray) Blandford of London, England; son, David Whitesides of Rhode Island; and five grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; three sisters and one brother.

Services will be private.

Charles Lee Eilers

Lee Eilers, 93, passed away on March 29, 2013. He was born in Minonk, Illinois, on November 23, 1919, the first of four children to Tjark and Ruth Eilers. Lee was raised and educated in the rural Orchard and Osage, Iowa, areas.

Lee joined the U.S. Navy in 1941 and was honorably discharged in 1947. While on leave in Orange, Texas, he met his future wife, Inez White. They were married on Dec. 23, 1946 in Jacksonville, Texas. After his discharge from the Navy they settled in Iowa to farm with his family. In 1954, Lee & Inez moved to the Northshore community in Houston, Texas. After 30 years of employment with Armco Steel, Lee retired in 1984 as a Journeyman Electrician. They moved to Inez's childhood home in Tecula, Texas (Jacksonville, Texas). In 2008, Lee returned to Houston, Texas to be closer to family.

Lee is preceded in death by: his parents: Tjark & Ruth Eilers; wife of 54 years: Inez; an infant daughter: Catherine; a son: Robert; sisters: Lucille Francis & Marie Love and a brother: Dean Eilers.

He is survived by: Daughter & Son-in-law of Denver, Colorado: Linda & Marvin Schmidt; daughter & son-in-law of Waller, Texas: Ruth Ann & Bob Knox; grandchildren and great-grandchildren

Lovene Helen Howland

RICEVILLE, IOWA - Lovene Helen Howland, 85, of Riceville, passed away at the Riceville Family Care & Therapy Center on Friday, April 19, 2013.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 25, at the United Methodist Church in Riceville at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Candareah Carey officiating. Burial will be at the Riverside Cemetery in Riceville.

Friends and family may call at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Riceville on Wednesday, April 24, during the hours of 4 to 7 p.m. and one hour before services at the church on Thursday, April 25.

Lovene was born on January 15, 1928, in Cresco, to Harold and Eva (Frank) Eaton. She attended local schools and graduated from Crestwood High School.

On January 26, 1946, Lovene was united in marriage to Raymond Lyle Howland in Council Bluffs. They were blessed with five children: David, Donna, Robert, Thomas and Timothy. They resided in Riceville most of their married life. Lovene was a long-time member of the United Methodist Church in Riceville.

At the early age of 32, Lovene had a stroke which caused many personal challenges for her during her lifetime. She lost her loving husband, Ray, in 1984, and moved to the Stacyville Community Nursing/Assisted Living Home in 1985.

In 1987, Lovene moved to Waverly, to be near her daughter and resided at an assisted living apartment until she suffered a brain tumor and underwent surgery. Following her recovery, she moved back to Stacyville where she resided for over 10 years.

In 1998, she moved back to her beloved hometown and lived at the Riceville Family Care and Therapy Center which was her home.

Throughout the years, Lovene kept her good humor and always had a smile on her face. Lovene's greatest love in life was listening to her son Tim's music. She also dearly loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, playing cards with her friends, and doing ceramics and crafts.

Survivors include four sons: David Howland and his wife Vicki of Riceville, Robert Howland and his wife Karen of Cedar Falls, Thomas Howland and his wife Diane of Riceville, Timothy Howland and his wife Cindy of Protivin, and a daughter, Donna Penning and her husband Lee of San Jose, California.

Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, a brother, Harlan (Pat) Eaton of Jacksonville, Florida, and two sisters, Alice Belle (Bud) Albertson of Iowa City, and Maureen (Wally) Vreeman of Rochester, Minnesota.

Lovene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ray, a sister, Norma Jean Ernst, and a brother, Charles Eaton.

Jane Elizabeth Dahley, age 68, died Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at the Sheffield Care Center in Sheffield, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 27, 2013, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage with Pastor Rhea Evanson officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home. Following the funeral service, cremation will take place.

Jane Elizabeth Dahley was born April 25, 1944, in Osage, Iowa, the daughter of Adrian and Agnes (Dargan) Kleckner. She was a 1962 graduate of Osage High School. In May of 1962, she married Wayne A. Dahley, and they were together for 25 years. During those years, she was busy raising their four sons, standing on the sidelines of her sons' sporting events, golfing, traveling, and enjoying her family and friends. Jane always had a heart for hospitality. She could whip out a fully cooked meal in a moment's notice and her famous potato salad will live on in the hearts of many. She also worked part time at the Pleasant Valley Golf Course in Thornton, an insurance agency in Clear Lake, and for two years was the owner and operator of the Sheffield Supper Club with her husband.

In 1987, she moved to Fort Collins, Colorado, where she lived for 24 years. For 20 of those years, she lived with her partner Kenneth Hines. In Fort Collins, she worked at Toddy's Supermarket, as an administrative assistant at Fine Print, and then spent over ten years as an assistant to the head of the Lory Student Center at Colorado State University. In Fort Collins, she made many friends and touched many lives, and enjoyed having her siblings Mary, Jody, and Tom nearby.

Jane is survived by four sons, David (Linda) Dahley of Greeley, Colorado, Darwin (Teri) Dahley of Coeburn, Virginia, Daniel Dahley of Rockwell, and Darcy (Kriss) Dahley of Castle Rock, Colorado; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; her former partner, Kenneth Hines of Wellington, Colorado; her former husband, Wayne Dahley of Rockwell; five brothers, Adrian Kleckner, Jr., Timothy Kleckner, Thomas Kleckner, Brian Kleckner, and Tracy Kleckner; three sisters, Mary Thomas, Patricia Humphrey, and Jody Benzel; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Harriet Irene Troge Trusty

Harriet Irene Trusty, age 94, of Osage, died Monday, April 22, 2013, at the Good Samaritan Society in St. Ansgar.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Osage with Rev. Bruce Kaltwasser officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, south of Osage. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church.

Harriet was born July 15, 1918, in Cedar Township, Mitchell County, Iowa, the daughter of Albert and Minnie (Hartwig) Troge. She was baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church, Cedar Township, and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Osage. The family lived in Cedar Township until moving to Osage in 1925. Harriet attended Osage public schools and graduated from Osage Community High School in 1936. She married Charles Trusty on August 16, 1942, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Osage. In February of 1951, they adopted their daughter, Dianne.

Harriet worked at the Mitchell County Auditor's Office and worked for one and a half years during World War II at Lawton in Seattle, Washington. She also worked for 30 years for the U.S. Government Agricultural Stabilization Services in Osage. Harriet was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she served as an organist and was an active member of LWML. She was also a member of Osage V.F.W. Auxiliary, Osage American Legion Auxiliary, and Wa-Tan-Ye Service Club. Harriet enjoyed gardening, playing cards, bowling, bingo, playing the organ, traveling, cooking, and reading.

Harriet is survived by her grandchildren, Todd Schotanus of Lancaster, California, and Carrie Hinders of Osage; six great-grandchildren, Josiah Schotanus, Dianna Schotanus, Brett Kluender, Arianna Kluender, Trinity Hinders, and Tucker Hinders; four nephews, Eric (Arlys) Troge, Robert (Kathy) Salge, Richard (Mary) Salge, and David (Alicia) Salge; four nieces, Christine Lueske, Gretchen (Rev. Stephen) Gallo, Melissa (Howard) Estervig, and Debbie Troge.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles Trusty; her daughter, Dianne Trusty; an infant grandson, Anthony; brother and sister-in-law, Wilbur and Helen Troge; and a nephew, Kurt Troge.

Robert John Fox

NEOSHO, MISSOURI - Robert John Fox, 83, Neosho, Missouri, died April 24, 2013, at Freeman Neosho ER, following a sudden illness.

Mr. Fox was born October 10, 1929 in New Haven, Iowa, the son of John and Verne (Kehoe) Fox. He entered the U.S. Army on March 11, 1954 and was discharged, March 9, 1956. He owned and operated Fox Package for 22 years and was a longtime farmer in the New Haven area. He was a 50 year member of the Knights of Columbus, a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and a member of St. Canera Catholic Church.

Robert married his wife, Virginia Roetto on October 17, 1959 in Pierce City, Missouri, and she survives. Also surviving are five children, Dana Eads and husband, Mike, Neosho; Janelle Dunaway and husband, Ron, Springfield; Mark Fox and wife, Caroline, Little Rock, Arkansas; Phillip Fox and wife, Kristie, Galt, Missouri, and Tim Fox, Neosho; seven grandchildren; one brother, Ivo Fox, New Haven; one sister, Roseanne O'Neill, Waterloo, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Mary Jane Leinenkugel and a brother, Kenneth Fox.

Services will be Saturday, April 27, at 10 a.m. at St. Canera Catholic Church, Father Hank Grodecki will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Pierce City, Mo. and full military honors will be conducted at the graveside service. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5-7 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Home, Neosho.

Dolores E. (Intorf) Christiansen

Dolores E. Christiansen, age 89, of Osage, Iowa, passed away Monday, April 22, 2013, at the Commons on Marice in Eagan, Minnesota.

Memorial services will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 3, 2013, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage with Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Inurnment will be at the Osage Cemetery. There will be a time for refreshments and fellowship following services at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the Alzheimer's Association.

Dolores was born on August 3, 1923, in St. Ansgar, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Agnes (Miller) Intorf. She graduated from Osage High School in 1941. Dolores married Norman Christiansen on November 14, 1942, in San Diego, California. She was employed by Northwestern Bell Telephone. Norm and Dolores owned and operated the Sugar Creek A&W Drive-in in Osage from 1958 to 1971. In 197l, they moved to Sedona, Arizona where Dolores managed the Sedona Ice Cream Parlor for eight years.

She then became the designer and owner of a line of clothing that was sold throughout the southwest under the label of Dolores of Sedona. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Sedona, Arizona and also the Sedona Quilters. In 2001, Norm and Dolores moved back to Osage. She was a member of two quilting groups in Osage, Our Savior's Lutheran Church and a lifetime member of the 3rd Marine Division Association. Dolores enjoyed sewing, quilting, dancing and singing.

Dolores is survived by three daughters: Jeanne (Willi) Resler of St. Paul, Minnesota, Janet Murdock of Gilbert, Marcia (Jack) McKee of Floyd; two grandchildren: Anne Wittnebel (Collin) of Greenfield, Minnesota, Liz (Dale) Hittle of Story City; three great-grandchildren: Lauryn Wittnebel, Evelyn Wittnebel, Grace Hittle; and a brother, Walt (Marci) Intorf of Osage.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Norm; her parents; and a sister, Gladys Grap.

Laurence was born December 23, 1919, on a farm northeast of Osage, the son of Clarence and Elizabeth (Minnis) Gilbert. He graduated from Osage High School and attended Northwestern College in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he met his wife, Sylvia Sperry. They were married on March 30, 1940, and moved to the family farm northeast of Osage. Laurence farmed and did custom combining and trucking until he retired. They later moved to Osage and recently were residents of Apple Valley Assisted Living. Laurence enjoyed playing the organ and singing. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing horseshoes. Laurence loved spending time with his family, and was well known for his sense of humor.

Laurence is survived by his wife, Sylvia of Osage; his children, Gary (Sandy) Gilbert of Osage, Marcia (Jerry) Sawyer of Plano, Texas, Larry (Patsy) Gilbert of Visalia, California, Carolyn (Robert) Knaus of Shawnee, Kansas, Marvin (Elijean) Gilbert of Kihei, Hawaii, Sharon (Ed) Silverstein of Phoenix, Arizona; 19 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; his sister, Ona Butler of Rudd; and daughter-in-law, Krystal Gilbert of Blaine, Minnesota.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Mark; his sisters, Ruth Williams and May Nielsen; and his brothers, George, Alan, Grant, John and Max.

Dr. Howard Abens, age 82, of Osage, died Monday, April 29, 2013, at Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Osage.

Howard Martin Abens was born June 5, 1930, near Gilmore City, the son of Lawrence and Edna (Keck) Abens. He grew up in the Lutheran church, and was active in band and choir. Howard graduated from Bode High School in 1947. He ran an excavating business and farmed with his brother, Kenneth, until he entered the service in 1950. He served two years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War at Camp McCoy, WI, and in Germany.

On December 28, 1954, Howard married Rita DeGroote, who had talked him into becoming a chiropractor, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Bode. He served as class president, and graduated valedictorian from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport in June of 1957. Howard started his chiropractic practice in Cedar Falls before moving to Osage in March of 1959, where he practiced for 54 years.

Howard was active at Our Savior?s Lutheran Church, serving as a Sunday School teacher, president of the congregation, and was once the chairman of a ?practically permanent preacher-picking committee.? He greatly enjoyed singing in the choir and was a member of several quartets over the years. Howard served for 12 years on the City Council. He was active in Rotary Club and served as president of both the Conservation Club and the North Central district of the Chiropractic Association. He also served on the NIACC board and was active in Toastmasters Club.

When his children were growing up, Howard enjoyed taking them boating, fishing, and swimming at different lakes on Thursdays and the weekends. He enjoyed reading, and had an amazing library of Christian, self- help, and professional books. Howard and his wife enjoyed traveling to all 50 states and 13 foreign countries, including seven cruises.

Howard is survived by four children and 16 grandchildren, Peggy (Bob) Appel of Altoona and their children, Alana (Micah) Hildreth, Aaron, and Daniel; Patty (Jon) Fredrickson of Jacksonville, Florida, and their children Joshua, and Katelyn; Jim (Kathy) Abens of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and their children Matthew, Monica, Connor, and Grant; Stu (Temi) Abens of Waco, Texas, and their children Megan, Christopher, and Amy Abens, Jordan (Justin) Mechell, Seth, Cody, and Jesse Stanford; one great-grandson, Paxton Mechell; two sisters, Vonnie (Buck) Noah of Des Moines, and Marilee Bland of Humboldt.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Rita in 2009; his brothers, Kenneth & Delmer; and a grandson, Bobby Appel.
