Kem Eugene McFarland, age 56, of Osage, died Wednesday, November 27, 2013, at
his home due to a lengthy illness of Leukemia.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 6, 2013, at the
Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage with Pastor Edward Bard, Chaplain at
Hospice of North Iowa officiating. There will be a time for light lunch and
fellowship at the V.F.W. in Osage immediately following the services.
Kem was born August 24, 1957, in Osage, the son of Arleigh and Alice (Adams)
McFarland. He was raised and attended school in Osage. In 1974, he married
Debbie Roberts in Princeton, Missouri, they had two children, Dale and Tonja.
Kem then dated Mary Koenings and they had one child, Kimberly. In 1984, he
married Brenda Rankin and they had a daughter, Danille. Kem then moved to
Arizona, until he returned in 1994. Shortly after moving back, he started
working for L.R. Falk, until his illness in 2010. Kem loved being with his
family and friends, loved spending time riding his motorcycles, playing with
remote control cars and picking on all of his family and friends.
Kem is survived by his son, Dale McFarland of Osage; his two daughters, Kim
(Brian) Bird of LeRoy, Minnesota, and Danille McFarland of Marshalltown; his
brother, Frank (June) McFarland of Osage; his sister, Phyllis (Terry) Johnson
of Carpenter; his fiancee, Diane Baldwin of Osage; his grandchildren,
Christian, George, Layne, Isabelle and Jasper; Many nieces and nephews and
cousins;
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Tonja; his first wife,
Debbie McFarland.

Thomas Keith Adams
WINTHROP - Thomas K. Adams, 62 of Winthrop, formerly of Stacyville, Iowa,
passed away Wednesday, November 27, 2013, at ABCM Rehabilitation Center,
West, in Independence.
Tom was born on April 21, 1951 at Stacyville, the son of Keith C. and
Anna L. (Heinzerling) Adams. He grew up in Stacyville, attending Visitation
Grade School and Marian High School before graduating from St. Ansgar High
School in 1969 and Loras College in Dubuque in 1973.
He taught high school English at Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock, Plainfield,
and East Buchanan (Winthrop) and also worked part time for The Winthrop
News from 1988 through 2004.
Tom is survived by his four brothers: Tim (Sheryl) Adams of Stacyville,
Dan Adams of Linden, N.C., Bob Adams of Osage; and Adrian Adams of
Stacyville; one sister, Deborah (Daniel) Gabrielson of Rochester, Minn,
several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and sister-in-law Ginny.
Tom was a member of St. Patricks Catholic Church of Winthrop, St. Pats
Choir, and Knights of Columbus.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 30, in St. Patricks Catholic
Church at Winthrop with Father Donald J. Plamondon officiating. Music
provided by St. Patricks Choir. Casketbearers were: Crystal Harrington,
Bridget Gabrielson, Craig Adams, Clifford Gabrielson, Nick Gabrielson,
Keith Adams, Sterling Adams, Daniel Adams, and Shawn Harrington. Interment
was in St. Patricks Cemetery at Winthrop.

William Delmar Hudson
PRAIRIE VILLAGE, KANSAS - William Delmar Hudson, 79, Prairie Village,
passed away peacefully November 27, 2013.
Preceded in death by parents Pearl & Maurice Hudson, son Jeffrey, wife
Anne. Survived by son Douglas Hudson (Anjali); daughter Jennifer Hudson,
and granddaughters Neva & Anya. No services.

Verena Gertrude Pitzen
STACYVILLE, IOWA - Verena Gertrude Pitzen, 95, died December 3, 2013, at the Stacyville Nursing Home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, December 6, at 10:30 a.m. at Visitation Catholic Church, Stacyville, with Rev. Raymond Burkle officiating. Burial will be in the Visitation Cemetery, Stacyville. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4-6 p.m. with a Rosary at 4 p.m. at Visitation Catholic Church, Stacyville. Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home of St. Ansgar, is in charge of arrangements.
Verena was born September 1, 1918, the first child of Ferdinand and
Louise (Steiger) Durben in Stacyville. Her younger brothers were Francis
(Sonny) and Clarence. Verena attended parochial school and graduated from
Visitation Catholic School in 1936. On September 30, 1939 Verena was married
to William C. Pitzen, son of Fred and Christina Pitzen, at Visitation
Catholic Church, Stacyville. Verena and Bill farmed on land northwest
of Stacyville. Verena was a helpmate to Bill opn the farm until 1978
when they built their retirement home in Stacyville.
Verna was a member of the Catholic Order of Women Foresters and the Thread Clippers Quilt Club. She was a longtime volunteer at the Stacyville Nursing Home helping residents in craft activities and during the weekly Mass. Verena had many interests and hobbies which included gardening, baking, going to auctions and antique shows with friends, collecting antiques, handcrafting items and quilting. She was a perfectionist in refinishing many pieces of furniture for their home. Her faith and good humor were visible to those who knew her. Verena enjoyed the visits from nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews and also did some babysitting when called upon.
She will be remembered for her willingness and kindness in helping out many family members during times of illness and their stays at the nursing home.
In November of 2006 Verena made the Stacyville Nursing Home her residence.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bill on Sept. 25, 1983; two brothers, Francis (Sonny) Durben and Clarence Durben.
Verena is survived by sisters-in-law Yvonne Durben of Rochester, Minn. and Betty Durben of Portland, Ore.; special friends Jim and Elaine, many nieces and nephews and friends.

Jack Eiel
LONGWOOD, Florida - Jack Eiel, 76, of Longwood, passed away Thursday,
November 14, 2013, following a brief battle with lung cancer. He died
peacefully surrounded by his loving family.
Jack, who over the years was also known as John, Jackie, Sharpie,
Dad, Gramps, The Weatherman and Captain Jack to his friends and family,
was born in Osage, on Nov. 3, 1937 to Dr. Merrill and Margaret Eiel. He
graduated with a Bachelor Degree from Grinnell College and completed his
Master Degree in Physiology from the State University of Iowa. In 1959
Jack married the love of his life Lauren. Together they settled in
Ridgewood, New Jersey where they lived for 35 years and raised their
four children.
Jack spent his career as a self-employed business owner in medical
equipment sales. In 2004 Jack and his wife retired to Longwood, Florida
just in time for the hurricane season. They quickly made friends and became
active in the Sanlando United Methodist Church. He served on the Wekiva
Cove Homeowners Association as a director and was an active member of
the South Seminole County Rotary Club. Several years ago Jack became
a boat captain at the Winter Parks Scenic Boat Tours where he enjoyed
relating the history of Winter Park to travelers near and far. He also
looked forward to and found great joy in volunteering for the past seven
years at Camp Pioneer, a week long camping experience for adults with
special needs.
Jack was an avid Green Bay Packer fan and fresh water fisherman. He
cherished the family vacations on Lake George, New York where his children
and grandchildren would join him on his early morning fishing trips.
Jack is survived by his wife, Lauren, his sister Jean and husband Jim
Peterson, his sister and brother-in-law Allie and Clark Gwinn and their
daughters Annie, Betsy and Cathy along with his children John, Meg and
her husband George Morton and their children Eric and Becca, Doug and
his fiance Kelly Frey, Rick and his wife Debbie and their children
Tommy, Jack and Matthew.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14, at the
Sanlando United Methodist Church in Longwood. In lieu of flowers the family
requests donations to be made in Jack's memory to Camp Pioneer at the
Methodist Life Enrichment Center, 4991 Picciola Road Fruitland Park,
FL 34731.

Ronald Raymond Oulman
RICEVILLE, IOWa - Ronald Raymond Oulman, 84, of Riceville, passed away on
Saturday Dec. 7, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held at the Riceville United Methodist Church on
Friday Dec. 13 at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Joyce Proctor officiating. Burial
will be at Riverside Cemetery in Riceville. Friends may call at the Lindstrom
Funeral Home in Riceville on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. and one hour before
services at the church on Friday.

Ronald Raymond Oulman

Obituary:
Ronald was born August 3, 1929, in Fair Haven, Minnesota, the son of
Nathan and Grace (Bartlett) Oulman. Ronald attended school in David through
the eighth grade then attended and graduated from Riceville High School in
1947. He was united in marriage to Audrey Newhouse on December 24, 1948 at
the Methodist Church in McIntire Iowa. They resided on farms near McIntire
and Riceville for 29 years before moving into Riceville in 1977. In addition
to family and friends, his passions were farming and horses. He was a member
of the Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife Audrey, of 65 years; six children: Duane
(Dee) Oulman, Keith Oulman and friend Lynn, Roni Rae (Steve) Anderlik, Sue
Rawhouser all of Riceville, Linda (Ed) Klimesh of Spillville, Iowa, Michele
(Jerry) Rosenblad of Stewartville, Minnesota; a son-in-law Joe Bouska of
Fort Atkinson, Iowa; 23 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; three
great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Lavonne Santos of Greenville, Calif.,
and one nephew, Brian Brodtof Ferndale, Calif.
Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Lavonne
Bouska; two granddaughters: Jodi Oulman and Darci Rawhouser; a brother
Duane; a son-in-law, Darrel Rawhouser; a brother-in-law Joe Santos, and
a niece Brenda Brodt.
Visitation: 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, December 12, 2013 at the
funeral home in Riceville and at the church for an hour prior to services.
Service: 1:30 pm on Friday, December 13, 2013 at the United Methodist
Church in Riceville.
Cemetery: at Riverside Cemetery, Riceville.

Clarice Kirkeby Olswold
AMANA, IOWA - Clarice Kirkeby Olswold, 94, of Amana, formerly of Osage,
died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, at St. Lukes Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Per her
wishes, her body was donated to the University of Iowa for medical research.

Clarice Olswold, age 94 of Amana, died Saturday, December 7, 2013 at
St. Luke?s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Per her wishes, her body was

Clarice is survived by her sons, Eugene of New Ulm, MN, Charles (Alice)
of Muscatine, Richard (Bonnie) of Middlesex, NY, and Ronald (Debbie) of
Walford, IA; nine grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Also surviving
is a half sister Iva Nelson of Ames. She was preceded in death by her
parents, her husband Clarence L. Olswold in February, her son Allen in
July, and a sister Ethel Muller.
Clarice Hilma Kirkeby Olswold was born January 6, 1919 in Osage, Iowa,
the daughter of Clarence and Olga Brenden Kirkeby. She received her
education in the Osage schools and married Clarence Olswold on August
16, 1941 in Osage. They made their home in Osage where her husband
operated a plumbing business. In 1967 the couple moved to the Amana
and Williamsburg area. Clarice was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker.
She enjoyed cooking, sewing, and needlework. Due to failing health, the
couple recently had made their home at Colonial Manor of Amana. Clarence
passed away February 2, 2013. Clarice was a member of Trinity Lutheran
Church in Walford.

Bernard "Fran" Janssen
RUDD, IOWA - Bernard "Fran" Janssen, 72, of Rudd, died Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013, at Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage.
A Prayer Service for Fran will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Pastor Dennis Niezwaag will officiate. Inurnment will be at a later date.
The family will greet friends from 5-8 p.m. Monday at the Hauser Funeral Home.
Bernard Francis Janssen was born June 9, 1941, in Floyd County, the son
of Bernard and Alice (Jacobson) Janssen. He graduated in 1959 from Osage
High School. On March 25, 1962, he was united in marriage to Nancy Moeller
at Eden Presbyterian Church. They farmed all their lives on the Janssen
family farm near Rudd. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and Rudd Coop.
Fran was a farmer at heart who enjoyed John Deere tractors and flying. He
will be remembered for his incredible ability to fabricate anything out
of metal or making working equipment out of junk. Family was always
important to Fran and he took every opportunity to share in life's
experiences with them.
Living family members include his wife, Nancy Janssen of Rudd; a son,
Jim (Lori) Janssen of Floyd; five grandchildren, Cory Janssen, Andrew
(Kailee) Janssen, Joseph Janssen, Barbara Janssen and Anne (Austin)
Campbell; two great granddaughters, MaKenzie Campbell and Hayden Janssen;
a brother, LeRoy (Carol) Janssen of Osage; two sisters, Phyllis (Don)
Solberg of Lanesboro, Minn. and Bernadine Poppens of Parkersburg; and
mother-in-law, Jean Moeller of Nora Springs..
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Gary Janssen; and a brother-in-law, Bob Poppens.

Larry Krahenbuhl

Larry Krahenbuhl, age 71, of Osage, died Sunday, December 22, 2013, at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 27, 2013,
at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Osage with Rev. Roy Ott officiating.
Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to
7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.
Larry was born February 2, 1942, in Osage, the son of Roscoe and Mary
Ann (Michels) Krahenbuhl. He attended school in Plymouth. On June 5, 1960,
he married Gladys Davies at First United Methodist Church in Plymouth.
Larry worked for Quad States Construction, and also custom farmed. Through
the years, he owned and operated Krahenbuhl Construction, LK Poultry, and
Larry's Lounge in Long Lake, MN. Larry was a volunteer fireman for the
Osage Fire Department. He enjoyed camping, fishing, woodworking, gardening,
and visiting his favorite watering holes.
Larry is survived by his wife, Gladys; His daughter, Debbie (Ron) Goodale of Osage and children Trent (Sara) and their daughter Bella, Theran, Tallia, Thatcher; his daughter, Rebecca (Mark) Wagner of Osage and children Briana (Tyrel) Williamson and their three children Tate, Elyza, and Oliver, Britney (Dustin) Hofler and daughter Hadlee, Vincent (Allison) Wagner and daughter Charlotte; his son, Troy Krahenbuhl of Osage; his daughter, Jodie (Les) Zahn of Osage and children Jessica, Jenna and her daughter Gracie, and Jobe; eight siblings, Russell, Fred, Allen, Martin, Charlie, Sue, Jimmy, and Cindy; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his mother and father-in-law; and brother, Lynn.

Elizabeth "Betty" Kleckner
OSAGE, IOWA - Elizabeth "Betty" Kleckner, 91, of Osage,
died Saturday, December 28, 2013, at Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 4, 2014, at
Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage with Father Raymond Burkle officiating.
There will be a gathering of family and friends from 4-7 p.m. Friday at the
Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage with a rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a
scripture wake service at 6:30 p.m. Inurnment will be in St. Peters
Cemetery, New Haven.
Betty was born November 24, 1922, in Clear Lake, the daughter of Otha
and Wanda (Lundy) Francis. She graduated from Orchard High School in 1940.
Betty attended college at Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and
received her teacher?s certificate. She taught at the Mount Pleasant
country school near New Haven for two years. On May 2, 1944, Betty
married Bernard Kleckner at St. Peter?s Catholic Church in New Haven.
To this union, six children were born. They farmed near New Haven until
Bernard?s retirement. For over 30 years she ran Betty?s Drapery, making
window coverings. Betty was a member of the ACCW, an active member of
the Farm Bureau, and was a very passionate member of the Republican
Party on various levels. When her children were younger, she was
involved with 4-H. Betty enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and was a
very competitive card player.
Betty is survived by her two daughters, Diane (Gary) Krebsbach of
Osage, Carol Kleckner of Ames; three sons, Duane (Maureen) Kleckner of
Huntington Beach, Calif., Larry (Diane) Kleckner of Audubon, Richard
(Mavis) Kleckner of Huntington Beach, Calif.; 13 grandchildren, Scott
(Libby) Krebsbach of Denver, Lisa Krebsbach of Osage, Jason (Jenny)
Krebsbach of Osage, Amy (Chad) Sparks of Polk City, Cody (Jeri) Kleckner
of Ames, April Kleckner of Ames, Amy (Perry De Luca) Kleckner of San
Francisco, Calif., David (Nina) Kleckner of Huntington Beach, Calif,
Linsey (Perry) Petersen of North St. Paul, Minn., Allison (Erik) Ullestad
of West Des Moines, Laura (Matt) Langreck of Scandia, Minn., Andrea Kleckner
of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Dylan Kleckner of Cedar Falls; 21
great-grandchildren; a sister, Juanita Halvorson of Osage; a
brother-in-law, Bill Rothenbuler of California; three sisters-in-law,
Zella Francis of Osage, Delores Byrnes of Riceville, Eileen Kleckner of
Osage; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bernard in
1992; a son, Tom in 2004; a sister, Maxine Dostart; three brothers,
Melvin Francis, Keith Francis, and Gerald Francis; sisters-in-law,
