Gerald Alan "Kenny" Cummings

#1:

McIntire, Iowa - Gerald Alan Cummings, 55, known to all as "Kenny," of McIntire, died on Sunday, June 2, 2013, at his home.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 6 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Maple Leaf Lutheran Church in rural Elma, with the Rev. Dan Christensen officiating.

The committal service will take place at 1:30 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery in Riceville.

Friends may pay their condolences at the home of Jeanne Kulow in McIntire.

Lindstrom Funeral Home in Riceville is in charge of arrangements.

Obituary:

Gerald Alan Cummings, age 55, known to all as Kenny, of McIntire, Iowa, passed away on Sunday June 2, 2013 at his home. A memorial service will be held on Thursday June 6 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Maple Leaf Lutheran Church in rural Elma, Iowa, with Rev. Dan Christensen officiating. The committal service will take place at 1:30 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery in Riceville, Iowa. Friends may pay their condolences at the home of Jeanne and Kenny in McIntire, Iowa. Lindstrom Funeral Home in Riceville is in charge of arrangements.

Kenny was born in Cresco, Iowa, son of Thomas and Doris (Hanson) Cummings, on September 13, 1957. Kenny was baptized and confirmed at Immaculate Conception Church in Riceville, Iowa. He attended school, graduating from Riceville High School in 1975. He worked in construction most of his life until a car accident in 1991. Following the accident, he worked selling cars and motorcycles for dealerships and privately for several years. He also worked for Pinicon Farms over the last five years.

Kenny was an eccentric comedian with a wild, amazing sense of humor, and was overall a wonderful grandfather. He enjoyed collecting antiques, fishing, socializing, cruising with friends, and loved his dog Jake.

Survivors include his wife Jeanne of McIntire, two sons, Neal (Michele) Kulow of Stacyville, Iowa, and Bryan Kulow and Jennifer of Riceville, Iowa; his grandchildren: Tanner, Ian, Kyla, Abbie, Tori, and Jude; his brothers: Mike (Dee) Cummings of New Smynra Beach, Florida, Terry Cummings of Dallas, Texas, Steven (Ali) Cummings of Evansdale, Iowa, John (Lori) Cummings of Rockwell, Texas, Tom (Michele) Cummings of Riceville, Iowa, and Bob Cummings of Mason City, Iowa. His sisters: Mavis (Dennis) Miller of Waterville, Minnesota, Marlys (Dennis) Mayer of Portland, Oregon, Pat (Mike) Fuller of Waterloo, Iowa, Judy Carlson of Pasadena, Texas, Sharron (Gary) Zobeck of Elma, Iowa, and his mother, Doris Cummings and Cliff Wuertz of McIntire, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his father Thomas in 1982 and his nephew Michael Cummings, Jr.

SWEENEY, BERNICE "BEE," (nee Brandau), 90, died on December 21, 2012 surrounded by her family.

Bee was an avid traveler and bridge player and an enthusiastic fan of college football and the PGA. She enjoyed the challenge of all kinds of puzzles, and board and card games were the center of family fun. Born and raised on a farm in Iowa, Bee graduated from Coe College in 1943 and raised her family in various cities before moving to Florida in 1981.

She is survived by her children Daniel Sweeney, Jr. (Peggy) of Alexandria, VA; Peggy Forbes (Jim) of Evanston, IL; Tricia Sweeney of Seekonk, MA; and Joel Sweeney of Longwood, FL; along with seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Her son Thomas Sweeney predeceased her.

She will be deeply missed by all her family and friends. A private burial will be held in Iowa.

David "Rocket" Williams

David Lee Williams, age 78, of Osage, Iowa, passed away on Thursday June 6, 2013 at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage, Iowa.

David Lee Williams was born in Iowa City, Iowa on March 10, 1935 to Eugene and Helena (Brown) Williams. David served his country for sixteen years in the United States Air Force. David was united in marriage to Sylvia Ann Holt. He worked as a farm hand and before retiring was in maintenance at the Newton Mall.

Survivors include two sons: Berle of Albion, Iowa and Rick (Evelyn) Williams of Massillon, Ohio, nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren, a brother Duane Williams of Trenton, Missouri and two sisters: Aileen Kirchoff of Riceville, Iowa and Katrina Williams of Minot, North Dakota.

David was preceded in death by his wife Sylvia in 2007, sons: David in 2008 and Robert in 2013, brothers Gail, Ronald, and Beryl, and a sister Alice Norman.

Leona M. (Cummings) Zacharda

St. Ansgar, Iowa - Leona M. Zacharda, 81, died on Sunday, June 9, 2013, at Hospice of North Iowa, Mason City, Iowa.

Memorial service will be held today, Wednesday, June 12, at 2 p.m. at the St. Ansgar United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Peter Chang officiating. Burial will be in the St. Ansgar Cemetery. There will be a visitation one hour prior to service at the church today.

Leona, the daughter of Oliver and Viola (Jacobson) Cummings, was born April 25, 1932. She grew up on a farm in Mitchell County and was united in marriage to George Zacharda. To this union four children were born: Michael, Linda, Alan and Kathy. They raised their children in St Ansgar.

Leona was a stay-at-home mom until she decided to work for the St. Ansgar School System as a cook. After the children left home, she worked at the Senior Center as their cook for many years. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed all the friends she met there. It was a true fellowship with good food, cards, music and activities for all the Seniors.

Her four grandchildren were the lights of her life. She enjoyed spending time with them, going to activities, and especially birthdays and holidays as a family with lots of good food and fun.

When her health declined she lived in the Good Samaritan home in St. Ansgar where she also made lots of friends. Her sister Patricia would come everyday to have coffee and visit her. They had a very close relationship and loved to tease each other in a humorous kind of way.

Leona was a caring and loving person and will be missed by many.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sons, Michael and Alan.

Leona is survived by her daughters, Linda (Robert) Griffin of Denver, Iowa, and Kathy (Ron) Rezabek of Mason City, Iowa; grandchildren Heather (Charles) Warren of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Ryan Reeves (fiance Ashley) of Davenport, Iowa, Lindsay Sanchez of Mason City and Brock Rezabek of Mason City, and step-great-grandson, Nicholas Warren of Cedar Falls; sisters Patricia Bublitz of St. Ansgar and Phyllis Schallock of Osage, Iowa.

Kenneth "Kenny" Counsell

OSAGE, IOWA - Kenneth "Kenny" Counsell, 95, of Osage, died Saturday, June 8, 2013, at the Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 11, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage with Rev. Duane A. Lookingbill officiating. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery. Masonic Services will be held by Osage Masonic Lodge 102 A.F. & A.M.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials may be directed to Iowa Hospice, 18 E. Main Street, Suite 2, New Hampton, IA, 50659.

Kenny was born February 9, 1918, in Burr Oak Township, Mitchell County, the son of Harry and Edna (Angell) Counsell. He graduated from Osage High School and attended trade school in Chicago for one year. Kenny was a salesman for Rawleigh Products and McNess Products and delivered the Sunday Des Moines Register for many years. He was a member of the Conservation Club and Osage Masonic Lodge. Kenny enjoyed hunting, fishing, and coaching baseball and softball. His hobbies included vegetable and flower gardening.

Kenny is survived by his brother, Virgil (Dottie) Counsell of Osage; eight nieces and nephews; and numerous other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Merlyn and Gene Counsell; and other relatives and friends.

Janell (Fish) Hinton

STORM LAKE, IOWA - Janell (Fish) Hinton passed away Sunday, June 9, 2013 at Mercy Hospital in Sioux City.

A visitation from 1:30-3 p.m. and Celebration of Life at 3 p.m. will be held in the chapel at the Ankeny Funeral Home on Saturday, June 22. A second visitation will take place from 2:00-4:00 pm at the United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall in Osage, Iowa, on Tuesday, June 25.

Janell was born on December 2, 1954 in Osage, to Bob and Annabelle Fish. She attended the University of Northern Iowa and graduated from Hamilton Business College in Mason City. In 1982, Janell was united in marriage in Merle Hinton. She was employed by Mitchell County Memorial Hospital and as a self-employed bookkeeper in her husband's business.

She was preceded in death by her father, Bob Fish; and mother-in-law, Jeannine Hinton. Janell will be missed by her husband, Merle Hinton of Storm Lake; mother, Annabelle Fish of Osage; brother, Tom Fish (Cindy) of Ankeny; father-in-law, R.J. (Jerry) Hinton of Clarion; brother-in-laws, Mark Hinton (Connie) of Clarion, Mike Hinton (Elaine) of Columbia, Mo.; three nieces, and five nephews.

LaVerne Dean Gunderson

LaVerne D. Gunderson, 79, of Hudson, Wisconsin, formerly of Osage, passed away on Monday, November 5, 2012, at the American Heritage Care Center in Hammond, Wisconsin.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 10, at 11:00 a.m., at the O'Connell Family Funeral Home, Hudson, Wisconsin, with a gathering of friends and family one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial in the Osage Cemetery will be held at a later date.

LaVerne Dean Gunderson, was born at home to Ruby (Woodard) and Theodore Gunderson in Osage, on August 31, 1933. He grew up in Osage and attended the Osage High School, graduating in 1951. He was known as Babe or Gundy to his friends and classmates. While a student at OHS, he participated in sports and was a standout in wrestling. He achieved a gold medal at the NE Iowa Conference, a silver metal at the NE Iowa District Conference and brought home a bronze metal from the Iowa State Wrestling tournament in 1951 at 155 pounds. He loved to talk about his wrestling days at OHS.

In July of 1951, he was inducted into the U.S. military and served in the Second Battalion, 5th Marine Corp. He served on active duty during the Korean Conflict and received a Letter of Commendation in 1952 from the Corp for an act of heroism that saved many members of his battalion. He also received a Purple Heart when shrapnel tore into his arm in Korea. He was honorably discharged in July of 1954.

On December 11, 1954, he married Maxine J. Behl at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Osage. Soon after their marriage, they moved to the Chicago area where they lived for 22 years. Gundy worked carpentry construction most of those years. While living in Palatine, he became active in the American Legion Post 690 and rose through the ranks to become Commander in 1970. After their children were grown, Gundy and Maxine moved for a short while to Phoenix, Arizona, before moving to Hudson, Wisconsin, where they have made their home since 1978. Gundy worked security at Stanley Smith Security after moving to Hudson, retiring in 1998.

His favorite past times were gardening, fishing, playing horse shoes, reading the newspapers and in later years, solving the New York Times Crossword puzzles. He was often chided about his worn and tattered dictionaries that were his aides and always by his side.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Maxine; daughter, Michele (John) Glomski of Island Lake, Illinois; 3 sons, Blair (Verla) Gunderson of Baldwin, Wisconsin, Duane (Susan) Gunderson of Newport, Minnesota and James Gunderson of Danbury, Wisconsin; five sister-in-laws, Jennie Gunderson of Phoenix, Arizona, Phyllis Gunderson of LaMesa, California, Lois Morris of Mason City, Myrna (Al) VanMeveren of Colman, South Dakota and Jeanette (Garth Jordan) Armstrong of Osage; eight grandchildren, Heather, Roger, Mitchell, Matthew, Loretta, Paul, Dennis and Dustin; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his parents; his brothers, Lauren and Eugene; sister, Frances Barker; and brother-in-law, Dennis Morris.

Services are entrusted to the O'Connell Funeral Home, Hudson.

Harland Claire Libersky

Harland was born on November 6, 1920 in rural St. Ansgar to Frank and Georgia (Zemanek) Libersky. He attended grade schools at Spring Valley and Pleasant Prairie, graduating from the St. Ansgar High School as Valedictorian in 1937.

On December 15, 1940 he married Cleo Leidall in Osage, Iowa. Harland worked at John Deere in Osage until 1942. In March of that year he was transferred to Kansas City as an Instructor in Aircraft Electrical Engines. He was frozen from the Draft Board and promoted as an Army Administrator Procurement Inspector due to his abilities as a draftsman and artist in mechanical units. Due to medical reasons he was honorably discharged in March of 1944.

Harland and the family returned to St. Ansgar to work at John Deere Implement where he worked in service and sales. In 1955 he was employed by St. Ansgar State Bank. He retired as vice president in 1982 but continued as a director until his death.

He was a man of many talents and abilities; an artist in building clocks and repairing them, creating stain glass works, woodworking and music. He was also involved with many organizations, including 23 years as a volunteer for the Fire Department, involvement with the American Legion, Lions Club and Cribbage Club.

Most of all he will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His kind, gentle hearted spirit endeared him to all who knew him. His creative mind, determined and persistant attitude, his ability to make people laugh (Ole and Lena will miss him), bring thankful memories as we recall a man who was dearly loved.

Harland was preceded in death by his parents; a great grandson, Mitchell Moen; 3 brothers, Howard, Harold and Kenneth.

He is survived by his wife Cleo; daughters, Patricia (Jim) Woody, Judi Thomsen, Geri Torkelson and Vonda (Dale) Blakestad; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.

Elizabeth J. (Fossey) Perau

Elizabeth Jean Perau, 89, passed away on Sunday, June 16 at the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar. Funeral Services will be on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Byron Northwick officiating. Burial will be at St. Peter Cemetery in Toeterville following the service.

Elizabeth was born January 21, 1924 in Union Township, Mitchell County, Iowa, to Eddie and Ella (Haugen) Fossey. The family later moved to the Lyle, MN area where she was baptized and confirmed member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church. She attended Gregg Country School and Lyle High School.

Elizabeth was united in marriage November 30, 1940 to Albin Perau in Osage by Rev. Solem. They were on their way to the Little Brown Church in Nashua but could go no further because of a snow storm. In 1944, Albin entered the U.S. Navy and served two and a half years in Idaho, and Washington. Upon their return, they made their home in St. Ansgar where they lived their entire lives and raised their three children, Ronald, Bradley and Pamela. They were blessed to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.

She was an active member of her church and community by participating in Deborah Circle, LWML, Friendship Club, quilting ladies, Chat and Stitch, and American Legion Auxiliary. Elizabeth also volunteered at the Good Samaritan Center and worked in the cafeteria at St. Ansgar Schools. Some of her favorite pastimes included: playing bridge with friends, sewing, quilting, flower gardening, cleaning house, cooking and baking.

Elizabeth will be remembered for her kind and gentle spirit. She loved being a mom, grandmother, great-grandmother and special friend to many. Those who knew her have fond memories of her welcoming home. She held tight to her faith in God and Jesus' resurrection and wanted her family to do the same. John 3:16.

Survivors include; daughter Pamela (Jim) Sampson of Lyle, Minnesota, sons Bradley (Rose) Perau of Urbandale, and Ronald (Lisbeth) Perau of Rifle, CO. Grandchildren: Brandon (Heather) Sampson, Brian (Tatiana) Sampson, Kelsey (Jarrett) Korfhage, Melissa (Patrick) Quaid, Sarah (Ryan) Goins, Blaine (Bobbi) Perau, Eric (Lesa) Chesnut, Michael (Christina) Perau, Adam Perau, Nichole (Ben) Lunt; and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albin, her parents: two brothers and sister-in-laws Donald (Rosemary) Fossey and Harold (Alice Louise)Fossey, and one granddaughter, Angelique Perau.

Ron Rodemaker

(Died June 17, 2013)

Ron Rodemaker, age 36, of Osage, died Monday, June 17, 2013, from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident near Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 20, 2013, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage with Rev. Bryan Lagerstam and Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.

Ron was born August 24, 1976, in Osage, Iowa, the son of Dale and Pat (Schwab) Rodemaker. He graduated from Osage High School in 1994 and attended Hawkeye Community College. On September 30, 2000, Ron married Christina Jeffrey. To this union three children were born. He worked as a machinist doing metal fabrication and was most recently employed at Cambrex in Charles City. Ron was a devoted father who enjoyed spending time with his children. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle, camping and fishing.

Ron is survived by his children, Riley, Abbi and Brady Rodemaker and their mother, Christina of Osage; his special friend, Addie Kane of Columbia, Missouri; his parents, Dale and Pat Rodemaker of Osage; his sister, Shelley Patterson and her son, Xavier of St. Ansgar ; uncles and aunts, Jim (Twyla) Rodemaker of Osage, David (Debbie) Rodemaker of Mason City, David (Kathleen) Schwab of Las Vegas, Nevada, Joe (Marilyn) Schwab of Mason City, Bob (Audrey) Schwab of North Kingstown, Rhode Island, and Sandy (Tom) Heimer of Forest City; many cousins; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Rolland and Lucille Rodemaker; and his maternal grandparents, Adolph and Jean Schwab.

Lucille Rodemaker

Osage, Iowa - Agnes Lucille Rodemaker, age 91, of Osage, died Monday, June 17, 2013, at Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 20, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage with the Rev. Bryan Lagerstam and the Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church.

Lucille was born November 21, 1921, in rural Cresco, Iowa, the daughter of Jess and Jesse (Smith) Bonnette.

After graduating from Cresco High School, she moved to Osage where she worked at Brown's DX/Cafe and at the Cedar Valley Produce. She was united in marriage to Rolland Rodemaker on July 6, 1945, in Mason City. To this union three sons were born. Lucille and Rolland lived in Osage their entire married life. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Lucille enjoyed reading, quilting, gardening and cooking. She also enjoyed crocheting butterflies for Our Savior's Lutheran Church's Easter service and knitting baby hats for the hospital. Lucille loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Lucille is survived by her three sons, Dale (Pat) Rodemaker of Osage, Jim (Twyla) Rodemaker of Osage, David (Debbie) Rodemaker of Mason City; four grandchildren, Shelley Patterson, Ron Rodemaker, Jennifer (Doug) Thurnau, and Lyndsy Rodemaker; seven great-grandchildren, Xavier Patterson, Riley, Abbi and Brady Rodemaker, Zackary, Jaida and Maci Thurnau; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rolland in 1996; two sisters, Edna Mae Grimm and Bonita Erbe; and four brothers, Ralph, Kenneth, Floyd and Clyde Bonnette.

Robert Wayne Ham

MASON CITY, IOWA - Robert Wayne Ham, 87, of Mason City, died Thursday, June 20, 2013, at his home.

Cremation has taken place and a Graveside Inurnment Service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, July 1, at the Osage Cemetery, with Pastor Duane Lookingbill in charge of services. Military honors at the grave will be handled by Osage American Legion Post 278. Following the services at the cemetery, everyone is invited to the Osage American Legion, 504 Main Street, for lunch and fellowship.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be given to the United Church of Christ in Osage, Osage American Legion Post 278 or a charity of your choice and mailed to the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home, P.O. Box 84, Osage, IA 50461-0084.

Wayne was born June 16, 1926 in San Diego, California, to former Mitchell County residents, Roland and Lura (Becker) Ham. As a toddler he moved to a farm near Parkers Prairie, Minnesota.

In 1932, they moved to the family farm near Mitchell, where he attended school and graduated in 1944. Wayne joined the United States Navy directly after graduation. He attended training schools in Idaho, Mississippi, and Pennsylvania, before being stationed aboard the cruiser USS Portsmouth, where he was in charge of all air conditioning and refrigeration. He was honorably discharged in 1946. Returning home Wayne married and farmed in the Mitchell and St. Ansgar areas, until purchasing land southwest of Osage in 1957. In 1977, he divorced and moved to Mason City, where he was a real estate broker with the Century 21 franchise, until retiring in 2003.

Wayne married Mary (Diane) Garth in 1982, they were married for 26 years, until she passed away in 2008. During his farming years he was a 4H leader, belonged to many farm related boards and enjoyed playing various sports. As a realtor, he served on the Mason City Board of Realtors where he served as president from 1988 to 1989. In both Mason City and Osage, Wayne served in many lay capacities of the local Congregational Church and has been a member of the Osage American Legion since 1946.

Wayne is survived by a son, Steve (Janet) Ham, of Osage; a daughter, Janelle Ham, of Clear Lake; his grandchildren, Jeremy (Jenn) Ham of Osage, Jamie (Sarah) Ham of Lake Mills, Holley Counsell of Mazeppa, Minnesota, Erin Toppin of Clear Lake, Tim (Deidre) Toppin of Mason City and Noelle Toppin of Rudd; eight great-grandchildren, his brother, Keith (Marlene) Ham of Osage, his nephews and niece, Jim Ham, Ron Ham and Jean (Ron) Evenson and families; his step-sons, Greg (Denise) Garth, Mark (Paula) Garth and David (Michelle) Garth; nine step grandchildren, his step brother, Pat (Joan) Duffy of Kerrville, Texas; his step sister Kay (Ray) Denkhoff of Abilene, Texas.

Wayne was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife, Diane; a sister, Marilyn Bricker; a step son, Gary Garth and many friends.

STACYVILLE, IOWA - Dale Bernard Mauer, 82, of Stacyville, died Friday, June 21, 2013, at the Stacyville Nursing Home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville with Monsignor John Hemann officiating.

Dale Bernard Mauer, age 82, of Stacyville, died Friday, June 21, 2013, at the Stacyville Nursing Home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville with Msgr. John Hemann officiating. Friends may greet the family from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville with a rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in Visitation Cemetery with military honors by Stacyville American Legion Post 569.

Dale was born August 8, 1930, on the family farm near Stacyville, the son of Frank and Elizabeth (Adams) Mauer. He was educated at Visitation Catholic Schools graduating in 1949. Following graduation, he served with the U.S. Army in Korea. On August 29, 1953, Dale married Theresa Adams. He was employed at the Stacyville Elevator and Oliver Tractor in Charles City. In his younger years, Dale enjoyed playing baseball. He was a catcher and many knew him as "Dusty." Later, he enjoyed watching baseball games on TV or listening on the radio. He was an avid gardener and was well known for his rotisserie chicken and for being Santa's Helper. Dale loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Dale is survived by his wife, Theresa of Stacyville; nine children, Steve Mauer of Loveland, CO., Patricia (Craig) Farlinger of West Liberty, Stanley Mauer of Little Cedar, Wayne (Vickie) Mauer of Pacific Junction, Peg (Eric) Eppard of Marion, Lisa (Carl) Farlinger of St. Ansgar, Michelle (Paul) Halbach of Stacyville, Pam (Jim) Brincks of Mason City, Shawn (Tammy) Mauer of Riceville; 24 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brothers, Dean (Jeannie) Mauer of Riceville, Darwin (Marlene) Mauer of Denver, Danny (Dorothy) Mauer of Agency, Howdy (Judy) Mauer of Waterloo, and Bill (Darla) Mauer of Charles City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Gerianne Mullenbach and son-in-law, Lee Mullenbach; grandson, Lucas Farlinger; four brothers, Othmar, Roman, Arthur and Orville Mauer; and one sister, Angela Ginder.

Charles "Charlie" Tubbs

Died June 24, 2013

Charles "Charlie" Tubbs, age 90, formerly of Oelwein, Mason City and Osage, died Monday, June 24, 2013, at the Bloomfield Care Center in Bloomfield, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 28, 2013, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage with Rev. Duane A. Lookingbill officiating. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home.

Charlie was born April 11, 1923, in Osage, Iowa, the son of Earl and Gladys (Erbe) Tubbs. He graduated from Osage High School. Charlie served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. On October 10, 1948, he married Mary Lou Barnes in Osage. They made their home in Osage and owned and operated The Fabric Shop. In 1963, they moved to Mason City, where they owned and operated The Fabric Shop, later known as Char-Lou, Inc. During this time, Charlie also worked as a real estate broker.

They moved to Oelwein in 1979 where they operated The Toggery. Prior to Charlie's retirement, they sold the business. Mary Lou passed away on March 8, 1981. He married Barbara Powell on December 1, 1981, in Nashua. She passed away on December 25, 2011. Charlie continued living in Oelwein until moving to Bloomfield in February of 2013. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and had a passion for golf.

Charlie is survived by his daughter, Laurie (Randy) Schultz of Centerville; his granddaughter, Heather (Tim) Goodrich and their daughter, Hannah, of Des Moines; and his grandson, Derek Schultz of West Des Moines.

He was preceded death by his parents; his first wife, Mary Lou Tubbs; an infant son, David; his second wife, Barbara Tubbs; and two sisters, Phyllis McAlister and Joan Kenny.
