Howard Penney
April 3, 2012
Howard “Sharky” Penney, age 98, of Osage and formerly of
Little Cedar, died on Sunday, April 1, 2012, at the Osage
Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Osage.
Funeral services will be
held at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, April 5, at the
Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, with Pastor Gary
Gilbert officiating. Burial will be in the Liberty Cemetery
at Little Cedar, with military honors at the grave by the
Osage American Legion Post 278 and Osage V.F.W. Post 7920.
Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, at
the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home.
Howard was born on
February 20, 1914 at Little Cedar, Iowa, the son of Herbert
and Gladys (Makepeace) Penney. He graduated from the Little
Cedar High School in 1932. Howard was united in marriage to
Wilhelmina “Minnie” Arndt on July 26, 1943, at the Little
Brown Church at Nashua. He served on the battleship U.S.S.
Texas in the U.S. Navy during World War II. In 1945, Howard
and Minnie started farming together near Little Cedar. They
moved to Osage in 1993.
Howard served on the
Little Cedar Co-op Board of Directors and was a member of
the Little Cedar Gun Club, Osage American Legion and Osage
V.F.W. Howard played catcher for the Little Cedar Semi-Pro
Baseball Team. He enjoyed trap shooting, hunting and
farming.
Howard is survived by many
nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; his wife, Wilhelmina “Minnie” Penney in
2011; a brother, Stuart C. Penney; and a sister, Dorothy
(Penney) Drum.

Elmer Jensen
April 10, 2012
Elmer Jensen, age 94, of Sterling, Illinois and formerly of
Rock Falls, died on Tuesday April 3, 2012, at the Sterling
Pavilion, Sterling.
There are no services.
Cremation rites have been accorded. The McDonald Funeral
Home and Crematory in Rock Falls completed the arrangements.
Elmer was born on April
19, 1917 in Klemme, Iowa, the son of Martin and Laura
(Larson) Jensen. He married Violet Ingalls on November 28,
1964 in Osage, Iowa. She died on March 11, 2012. Elmer and
his wife, Violet owned and operated the Jensen Liquor Store
in Morrison for 13 years, retiring in 1977. He was a WW II
Veteran serving in the Air Force.
Survivors include three
daughters, Victoria (Dave) Ricketts of Savanna, Sandi Ryan
of Rock Falls and Peggy Jensen of Virginia; six
grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; one sister, Eva Taylor; and one brother,
Melvin Jensen. |
Janet Mae Peterson
April 10, 2012
Janet Mae Peterson, 76, of Joice, died on Tuesday, April 3,
2012, at her home after a courageous battle with cancer and
was surrounded by her loving family.
Funeral services were held
at 1:00 p.m., on Friday, April 6, at the First United
Methodist Church of Plymouth, Plymouth, Iowa, with Pastor
Doug Farrell from the Calvary Baptist Church in Forest City
officiating. Burial was held in the Oakwood Cemetery,
Plymouth. Visitation was held from 5-7:00 p.m., on Thursday,
April 5, at the Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, Mason
City, Iowa. Should friends desire, memorial contributions
may be made to the Janet Peterson Memorial Fund in care of
her family.
Janet, the daughter of
Ervin and Alta Sutton of Plymouth, was born on March 2, 1936
in Mason City. She graduated from high school in Plymouth in
1954 before marrying Earl Peterson on July 24, 1954. The
couple farmed in the Carpenter area, kept bees, and owned a
carpentry shop. Later in her life, she moved to Nora Springs
and worked at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in St. Ansgar,
as a CNA for more than twenty years before retiring and
moving to Joice to be closer to her family.
Janet taught Sunday School
for many years and was involved with the Fellowship of
Christian Women. She loved music and played the piano and
accordion. Family was very important to her and she kept in
touch with her loved ones every day.
She is survived by her
seven children, Darvin (Veronica) Peterson of Joice, Brian (Noella)
Peterson of Lake Mills, Burton (Marcie) Peterson of Lake
Mills, Carmen (William) Lange of Joice, Justin Byers of
Creston, Iowa, Robert (Vivian) Carson of Roswell, New Mexico
and Heather (Brent) Butler of Kensett; 22 grandchildren; 3
great-grandchildren; sisters, Lora (Jerald) Tourtellott of
Osage and Linda (Mike) Kohler of Mason City; brother,
Clinton (Karen) Sutton of Hastings, Minnesota;
sister-in-law, Carol Sutton of Rudd; along with many nieces
and nephews.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; her husband, Earl Peterson; infant son,
Gary; son, Mardy; grandson, Jason Peterson; brothers, Earl
Sutton and William Clayton Sutton; infant sister, Bonnie
Crystal and sister, Carrol Bernice

Marvin "Red" Bernard Krebsbach, 87, of Stacyville, died on
Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan
Center.
A Mass of Christian Burial
will be held on Tuesday, April 10, at 10:30 a.m., at the
Visitation Catholic Church, Stacyville, with Father Jack
McClure CPPS officiating. Burial will be in the Visitation
Catholic Cemetery, Stacyville. Visitation was held on
Monday, April 9, from 4-7:00 p.m., at the Visitation
Catholic Church, Stacyville, where there was a prayer
service at 6:30 p.m.
Marvin was born on October
12, 1924 in Union Township, Mitchell County, Iowa, northwest
of Stacyville, to Anton and Rose (Wingert) Krebsbach. He
attended the Union #2 country school for eight years and
four years at the Visitation High School, graduating in
1943. On June 2, 1945, he entered into the United States
Army and served in active duty in France until October of
1946 when he was discharged. He was then employed by
Theobald Implement in Stacyville and also worked for Hormel
in Austin, Minnesota for a time. Marvin was united in
marriage on June 25, 1947 to Adeline Gilles. They began
farming northwest of Stacyville in 1949, where they remained
for forty years. In 1990, they retired to a new home in
Stacyville.
They were lifelong members
of the Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville. Marvin was
a member of the Mitchell County Hospital Board for seventeen
years. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, boating and in
his later years he spent many hours building wooden replicas
of farm equipment that he used during his years of farming.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; his wife, Adeline in 2000; two brothers,
Raymond and Eugene; an infant sister; sisters and
brothers-in-law, Wilfred (Chrystal) Gilles, Wilmer (Arlis)
Gilles, Rueben (Ardella) Gilles, Leo (Marian) Johnson,
Vernon Gilles, Theresa Langenfeld, Daniel Gilles and
Clarence Hemann.
Marvin is survived by his
thirteen children, Diane Rose, Kenny, Jim (Sheryl) Krebsbach
of Stacyville, Judy (Rick) Thurnau, Emily (Rod) Kuntz,
Marcia (Mike) Molsberry of St. Ansgar, Marilyn (Dave) Bode
of Osage, Gregg (Mindy) Krebsbach of Stacyville, Russ
Krebsbach of Owatonna, Minnesota, Roger (Tina) Krebsbach of
Newburgh, Indiana, Joleen (Gary) Pedersen of Mason City,
Carolyn (Dave) Devens of St. Ansgar and Paul (Coralie)
Krebsbach of Stacyville; 38 grandchildren; 42
great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild;
sisters-in-law, Barbara Krebsbach of Stacyville, Ardella

Alice Luse
April 10, 2012
Alice Marie (Guthrie) Luse, 91, of Osage, formerly of
Mason City, passed away on Monday, April 9, 2012, at the
Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.
A memorial service
will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, April 21, at
the Old Stone United Methodist Church, Rock Falls, with
Rev. Wendy Johannesen officiating. According to her
wishes, the body was cremated. There will be a luncheon
and fellowship with family and friends immediately
following the service.
Alice was born on
September 16, 1920, the only child of Zora and Anna
(Peterson) Guthrie, in Mason City, Iowa. Alice’s mother
passed away when she was 15 years old. Alice graduated
from the Mason City High School in 1939. On June 21,
1941, she was united in marriage to Richard “Dick”
Eugene Luse in Mason City. To this union, three children
were born, Gloria, Bill and John.
Alice was a devoted
housewife and active in scouting when her children were
growing up. Her favorite hobbies were sewing, crocheting
and knitting. She also upholstered furniture out of her
home. Dick and Alice were avid campers and charter
members of the River City Roamers. Together they enjoyed
many camping and fishing trips to South Dakota with
family and friends. Following Dick’s retirement from
Northwestern States Portland Cement Company, they spent
many years managing the High Chaparral RV Park in
Arizona City, Arizona, during the winter months and
lived in Rock Falls, Iowa, during the summer months.
After her husband’s death, Alice moved to Willow Point
in Mason City, then to Apple Valley Assisted Living in
Osage. She kept busy sewing over 100 Raggedy Ann and
Andy dolls. She became a resident of the Faith Lutheran
Home in February 2009.
Alice is survived by
two sons, Bill of St. Ansgar and John and wife, Carole
of Osage; son-in-law, Larry Dorenkamp and wife, Sue of
Rock Falls; grandchildren, Toni (Mark) Rock, Dean
Trebilcock, Ricky (Kim) Luse, Raymie Luse, Tara
Yarbrough and Erin Feingold; step- grandchildren, Steve,
Matt and Mike Dorenkamp and Luke, Zach and Hannah Davis;
13 great-grandchildren, Jeff Worthen, John Carter, Josh
Trebilcock, Heather Trebilcock, Ashley (Dustin)
Shackelford, Jakob Luse, Caleb Luse, Peyton Luse,
Stephanie Yarbrough, Michael Yarbrough, Eric Yarbrough,
Erica Yarbrough and Ellie Feingold; 5
great-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Helen
Klein of Mason City; and nieces, nephews, cousins and
special friends.
Alice was preceded in
death by her mother in 1936; her father in 1961; her
daughter, Gloria on March 15, 2005; her husband, Dick on
June 12, 2006; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Jerry L. Anhorn, age 65, of Chicago City, Minnesota, died on
Monday, April 9, 2012, while surrounded by his loving family
following a lengthy illness.
A Celebration of His Life
was held at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, April 14, at the Forest
Lake Christian Church, Forest Lake, Minnesota. Memorials are
preferred to the family; which will be designated at a later
date.
He is preceded in death by
his parents, George and Carol; and brother, Wayne.
He will be dearly missed

Richard D. Cullen, age 76, of Osage, died on Tuesday,
April 10, 2012, at the Mitchell County Regional Health
Center Hospice Unit in Osage.
Memorial services will
be held at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, April 14, at the
Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, with Rev.
Stephen Bohling officiating. The family will greet
relatives and friends from 1-2:00 p.m., on Saturday, at
the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home.
Richard was born on
April 19, 1935 in Mitchell, Iowa, the son of Joseph and
Rose (Mostek) Cullen. He attended school in Mitchell.
Richard was united in marriage to Mary Thoresen on May
17, 1974, at the Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage.
He worked for Hartwig Tiling and later at A to Z Drying,
until his retirement in 1994.
Richard enjoyed
spending time with his family and grandchildren,
fishing, gardening, dancing and listening to country
bands.
Richard is survived by
his daughter, Carol Cullen and her daughters, Cheyenne
and Cherokee, of Osage; his son, Joe Cullen of Charles
City; former wife, Mary Cullen of Osage; aunt and uncle,
Joe and Lois Mostek of Mitchell; niece, Angel Cullen;
sister-in-law, Tina Cullen of Osage; and numerous
cousins.
He was preceded in
death by his parents; his brother, Ronnie Cullen; a
niece, Tammy Cullen Lievrouw; and many aunts and uncles.

Don Alyn Erbe, age 80, of Riceville, passed away on
Saturday, April 14, 2012, at the Riceville Family Care
Center in Riceville.
Funeral services will be
held at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, April 18, at the
Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, with Rev. Duane A.
Lookingbill officiating. Burial will be in the Osage
Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10-11:00 a.m., on
Wednesday, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home.
Don Alyn Erbe, son of John
Henry Erbe and Mabel (Wherry), was born on October 2, 1931
at Osage, Iowa. Don moved to Cabool, Missouri, with his
family in 1949. He married Margaret Marsh on November 2,
1965 in Cabool, Missouri. Don moved to Marshfield, Missouri
and worked for several years. Don and Margaret later moved
to northern Iowa where he worked for various dairy farmers
in the Lime Springs area until his retirement. After
retirement, he moved to Riceville where he has lived for
many years.
Don was a very friendly
person and liked to visit many of the Riceville businesses
and talk to people as they would come and go.
Don is survived by two
sisters, Avis Kurtz and Norma (Rex) Gilmore, both of Willow
Springs, Missouri; several nephews and nieces, Ian (Camille)
Kurtz of Ozark, Missouri, Marie (Robert) Morterud of
Bayfield, Colorado, John (Jolene) Erbe of Ridgeway, Jim
(Diane) Erbe of New Albin, Joe Erbe of Riceville, Andrew
Gilmore of Willow Springs, Missouri, Kerrie (Steven) Green
of Federal Way, Washington and Mary (Eric) Cederholm of
Lincoln, California; and by numerous grand nephews and
nieces.
He was preceded in death
by his wife, Margaret; and brother, Dale.

Maxine Hartwig
April 17, 2012
Maxine E. Hartwig, age 91, of Osage, died on Sunday, April
15, 2012, at the St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester,
Minnesota.
Funeral services will be
held at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, April 21, at the
Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, with Pastor Sam Mack
officiating. Visitation is from1-2:00 p.m., on Saturday, at
the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home. Following the funeral
service, cremation will take place with inurnment in the
Kensett Cemetery.
Maxine E. Hartwig, was
born on April 7, 1921, to William and Maude (Wells) Pangburn
on the family farm near Kensett. She was baptized in the
Kensett United Methodist Church and continued her membership
there for 78 years. Maxine graduated from the Kensett High
School in 1938. She received her registered nurse degree in
1942 from the St. Joseph Mercy College of Nursing at Sioux
City. Maxine married Paul L. Hartwig on February 14, 1945.
She was employed at the Mitchell County Memorial Hospital
for over 26 years.
Maxine was a member of the
Women’s Society of Christian Service through the Kensett
Methodist Church, the Royal Neighbors of America, the
Mitchell County Hospital Auxiliary and the V.F.W. Auxiliary.
Maxine is survived by her
son, Robert Hartwig of Nevada; four grandchildren, Janelle
Hartwig of Des Moines, Chelsea Hartwig of Ames, Landon
Hartwig of St. Cloud, Minnesota and Mason Hartwig of Boone;
her sister, Virginia Scott of Marshalltown; and many nieces,
nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; two sisters, Aleatha Hooven and Gladys
Bringe; and a brother, Milo Pangburn, Sr.

Emil F. Mueller
April 17, 2012
Emil F. Mueller, 90, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April
15, 2012, at the Odyssey Hospice in Mesa, Arizona,
surrounded by his family.
Visitation will be held on
Saturday, April 21, from 9:30-10:30 a.m., with a service to
immediately follow at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church,
Osage. Local arrangements entrusted to the Champion Bucheit
Funeral Home, Osage. Interment will take place in the Sacred

Arriving on June 23, 1921,
Emil was born in Stacyville, Iowa, to John and Elizabeth (Thome)
Mueller. In September of 1942, Emil was drafted and served
over 3 years in the U.S. Army in the European Theater. He
was a member of the 4th degree Knights of Columbus, a
lifetime member of the American Legion and also a member of
the VFW. On January 30, 1946, Emil married the love of his
life, Margaret Loecher in Stacyville, Iowa. For 35 years he
farmed southeast of Osage, Iowa. They moved permanently to
Mesa, Arizona in 1999. He enjoyed his retirement years in
Arizona playing softball, tennis, golf, dancing, and bridge.
Emil is survived by his
loving wife, Margaret of Mesa, Arizona; daughter, Janet
Pickar of Austin, Minnesota; sons, Robert (Cheryl) Mueller
of Mesa, Arizona and Richard Mueller of Forest City, Iowa; 3
brothers, Elmer (Mary) Mueller of Austin, Minnesota, Delphin
(MaryAnn) Mueller of Austin, Minnesota and Lavern (Gloria)
Mueller of Osage, Iowa; 5 sisters, Cyrilla Rockers of
Austin, Minnesota, Maxine Halback of Austin, Minnesota,
Irene Hemann of Stacyville, Iowa, Anita Adams of Stacyville,

Maureen Brooker
April 17, 2012
Maureen Elizabeth Brooker, age 81, of Osage, died on Monday,
April 16, 2012, at the St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester,
Minnesota.
A Funeral Mass will be
held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, April 20, at the Sacred Heart
Catholic Church in Osage, with Father Jack McClure, CPPS,
officiating. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-7:00 p.m., on Thursday, at the
Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, with a prayer
service at 7:00 p.m.
Maureen was born on
February 4, 1931, on the family farm east of Osage, to Leo
and Charlotte (Kurtz) Comisky. She graduated from the Osage
High School in1948. Maureen married Dean Brooker on May 2,
1949, at the St. Peter’s Catholic Church in New Haven. They
were the first couple to be married there, doing so before
the church pews were installed. Maureen was a school bus
driver for the Osage Community Schools for 27 years.
Maureen and Dean were avid
campers. She greatly enjoyed spending time with her family
and hosting “Sunday Bread”. Maureen loved her Minnesota
Twins and the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Maureen is survived by her
six children, Denny (Bev) Brooker of Osage, Deke (Bev)
Brooker of Buffalo Center, Sandi (Roger) Osheim of Emmons,
Minnesota, Linda (Dave) Wetter of Floyd, Betty Smith of
Osage, Nancy (Mark) Milbrandt of Osage; 16 grandchildren; 31
great-grandchildren; two brothers, Marlow (Kay) Comisky of
Melrose Park, Illinois, Mick Comisky of Osage; three
sisters, Leone Shepherd of Norwalk, Kathy (Jerry) Laker of
Hull, Georgia, Doke (Clarence) Kruse of Osage;
sisters-in-law, Della (Gene) Cordle of Osage and Janice
(Elmer) Schonrock of Winnebago, Minnesota; brothers-in-law
and sisters-in-law, Don (Joan) Brooker of Santa Maria,
California and Alan (Barbara) Brooker of Eagan, Minnesota;

She was preceded in death

Max C. Schultz
April 24, 2012
Max C. Schultz, 91, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Osage, Iowa,
died on Monday, April 16, 2012, at the Sartori Hospital.
Services will be held at
2:00 p.m., on Wednesday, April 25, at the Nazareth Lutheran
Church in Cedar Falls, with burial in the Osage Cemetery in
Osage. Memorials may be directed to the family.
He was born on April 17,
1920 at Haubstadt, Indiana, the son of George A. and
Mathilda (Rohlfing) Schultz. He married Alice A. Pruessner
on September 6, 1948 in Kewanee, Illinois. She preceded him
in death on May 23, 2006. Max was a pastor in the United
Church of Christ and served churches in Geneseo and Chicago,
Illinois, Hebron, North Dakota, Detroit, Michigan,
Roseville, Minnesota and Akron, Ohio. Max retired in 1986
and he and his wife, Alice moved to Osage. He moved to Cedar
Falls in 2011.
Max had many hobbies,
including stamp and coin collecting, gardening and traveling
to Germany many times with his wife.
He is survived by three
sons, Dr. Georg (Elizabeth) Schultz of St. Joseph, Michigan,
Rev. James (LeeAnna) Schultz of Cape Girardeau, Missouri and
Paul (Dr. Denise) Schultz of Baltimore, Maryland; two
daughters, Dorothea (Rev. Dennis) Hanson of Cedar Falls and
Elizabeth (John) Kappler of Shoreville, Minnesota; ten
grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Rev.
Valerius Schultz of Hermann, Missouri; and two sisters,
Helene (Rev. Dale) Krampe of Marthasville, Missouri and
Margaret Schultz of Washington, Missouri.
He was preceded in death
by his wife and parents.

Jim Hanna

William James Hanna, age 86, of Cedar Falls and formerly of
Osage, died on Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at Bickford of Cedar
Falls.
Funeral services were held
at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, April 23, at the Trinity Lutheran
Church in Osage, with Rev. Bruce Kaltwasser officiating.
Burial was in the St. Ansgar Cemetery, with military honors
at the grave by the Walter T. Enneberg American Legion Post
358 of St. Ansgar. Visitation was from 3-5:00 p.m., on
Sunday, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.
Jim was born on February
1, 1926 in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of William and Agnes
(Anderson) Hanna. He attended school in St. Ansgar and
graduated from the St. Ansgar High School. Jim served in the
U.S. Marines during World War II in the Pacific Theater. On
May 25, 1947, he was united in marriage to Geneva Marcks at
the Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar. They made their
home in St. Ansgar before moving to Osage in 1954, where Jim
was a printer at the Osage Press News.
He was a member of the
Trinity Lutheran Church where he served as a deacon, and was
a life time member of the St. Ansgar American Legion. Jim
enjoyed golf, dancing, playing cards, and most importantly,
spending time with his family. He will be remembered for his
commitment to his country, wife, family and faith.
Jim is survived by his
wife, Geneva Hanna of Cedar Falls; his children, Mike (Pam)
Hanna of Urbandale and Julie (Russ) Foth of Cedar Falls;
five grandchildren, Kate Westphal, Kelly Kohls, Jennifer
Wightman, Jamie Johnson and Kurt Hanna; eight
great-grandchildren; and one brother, Doug (Rose) Hanna of
St. Ansgar.
He is preceded in death by
his parents; and one brother, Phillip Hanna.

Clarence J. Brumm

Clarence J. Brumm, age 86, of Osage, died on Sunday, April
22, 2012, at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.
A Mass of Christian Burial
will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, April 25, at the
Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage, with Father Jack
McClure, CPPS officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred
Heart Cemetery in Osage, with a flag presentation at the
grave by the Osage American Legion Post 278. Visitation will
be held from 4:30-7:30 p.m., on Tuesday, at the
Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, with a Knights of
Columbus Rosary at 5:00 p.m.
Clarence was born on
January 26, 1926 in Stacyville, the son of Joseph and Sophia
(Halbach) Brumm. He graduated from the Visitation High
School in Stacyville. Clarence served in the Army, where he
achieved the rank of sergeant, from 1950-1952, during the
Korean Conflict. He received numerous medals including the
Bronze Star. Clarence married Marjorie Pitra on June 23,
1951, at the Little Flower Chapel, Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He
was a self-employed contractor at Brumm Construction Inc.
Clarence was a member of
the Sacred Heart Church in Osage, the Knights of Columbus
(past Grand Knight), Osage VFW Post 7920, Osage American
Legion Post 278 and served on the city of Osage Board of
Adjustment for 23 years. He enjoyed traveling, playing
cards, woodworking and golfing.
Clarence is survived by
his wife, Marjorie of Osage; his son, Richard (Karen) Brumm
of Osage; 7 grandchildren, Eric (Kim) Brumm of Ames, Andrew
(Katie) Brumm of Osage, Marita Brumm of Mason City, Patti
Brumm of Dallas, Texas, Nina Brumm of Dubuque, Shelly Brumm
of Osage and Isaac Brumm of Osage; two great-grandsons, Dex
Anderegg of Dubuque and Tucker Brumm of Osage; a brother,
Othmar (Betty) Brumm of Stacyville; and a sister, Joan
Dworschak of Champaign, Illinois.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; a son, Joseph in 1965; four sisters and four
brothers.

Gene R. Foxen, 52, of Emporia, Kansas, died of cardiac
arrest on Monday, April 23, 2012, at his home in Emporia.

Gene was born on March 30, 1960 in Osage,
Iowa, the son of Leo and Mary Jane (Thome) Foxen. He married
Shannon D. Dycus on August 4, 2005 in Big Springs,
Kansas. Gene was a machinist at Vektek in Emporia for over
twenty years.
Gene is survived by his wife, Shannon; his
mother, Mary Jane (Thome) Foxen of Osage; sons, Cody Allen
Foxen of Emporia, Kansas and William Vincent Johnson of
Fairview, Oklahoma; sisters, Ann Maas of Kasson, Minnesota,
Jane Foxen of Des Moines, Joan Butterfield of Charles City
and Lisa Foxen of Mantorville, Minnesota.

Paula Christine Badker, 41, of Manly, died on Friday, April
27, 2012, at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.
Funeral services will be
held at 10:00 a.m., on Tuesday, May 1, at the Bethel United
Methodist Church, Manly, with the Reverend Don Preston
officiating. Interment will be in the Manly Cemetery.
Visitation was held from 5-7:00 p.m., on Monday, April 30,
at the Bethel United Methodist Church and one hour prior to
the funeral services. In lieu of flowers, memorial
contributions may be made to the Mercy Cancer Center, Mason
City, or to the Paula Badker Memorial Fund in care of her
family.
Paula Christine Badker,
daughter of David and JoAnn (Troupe) Lenz was born on March
10, 1971 in Oelwein, Iowa. She attended and graduated from
the Oelwein High School in 1989. Paula started working for
Pronto in Hazleton, before transferring to the Manly Pronto
Market. Paula was the manager up till the time of her
passing. She was united in marriage to Lon Badker on
September 26, 2009. To this union, Allison Lee was born,
along with Lon bringing his children into the family,
Mercedes and Madison Badker.
Paula enjoyed pictures,
crafts, walking, golfing and gardening. Most importantly,
she spent much of her time taking care of her children and
spending time with family and friends. Paula was a caregiver
enjoying the company of her family, friends, and the
residents of Manly. Paula was a member of the Bethel United
Methodist Church in Manly.
She will be greatly missed
by her husband, Lon Badker of Manly; daughters, Allison,
Mercedes and Madison Badker of Manly; mother, JoAnn (Troupe)
Lenz of Manly; sisters, Malinda Lenz of Manly and Jodi
(Chad) Clendenen of Oelwein; brother, John (Victoria) Lenz
of Ottumwa; mother-in-law, Joyce Badker of Manly;
father-in-law, Doug (Sue) Badker of Osage; brothers-in-law,
Jon (Kim) Badker of Manly and Dustin Badker of Osage;
sisters-in-law, Michelle (Dean) Samuelson of Manly and Donna
(Joe) Yezek of Manly; along with many nieces, nephews and
cousins.
She was preceded in death
by her father, David Lenz; and her sister-in-law, Sheila
Badker.

Carl Henry Klapperich, 92, of Stacyville, passed away
peacefully at the Stacyville Community Nursing Home in
Stacyville, on Friday, April 27, 2012.
Funeral services will be
held on Tuesday, May 1, at 10:30 a.m., at the Sacred Heart
Oratory, Meyer, with the Rev. Jack McClure CPPS officiating.
Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Meyer.
Visitation was on Monday, April 30, from 4-8:00 p.m., at the
Meyer Church, with a rosary at 4:30 and prayer and
remembrance service at 7:00 p.m. The Schroeder & Sites
Funeral Home of St. Ansgar, is in charge of the
arrangements.
Carl was born on July 12,
1919 at his home in Meyer, Iowa, to Bernard and Rosa
Klapperich. He attended school in Meyer and served in the
United States Army from 1942 to 1945, when he married his
sweetheart, Catherine "Caddy" Hackenmiller on October 3,
1945, at the Sacred Heart Church in Meyer. They celebrated
66 years of marriage. Carl farmed most of his years in
Meyer.
He was a member of the
Knights of Columbus and a member of the Hale Penney Fuller
Post #569 of the American Legion in Stacyville. Carl was a
loyal Hawkeye and Twins fan. He also loved bowling, golf,
cards, bean bag, and most important, just spending time with
Caddy and his children and grandchildren. He was devoted to
his wife and family, exemplifying his values to his children
and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; six brothers, John, Isidor, Lawrence, Fred,
Leo, Wilfred and Norbert; and one sister, Hildegarde Halbach.
Carl is survived by his
wife, Catherine; sons, Charlie (Laurie), Norman (Marcia),
Joel (Jane) and Jan (Sheila); daughters, Ann (Bill) Papas
and Karen (Marc) Schumann; twenty-one grandchildren; and
eighteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Elizabeth;
and three sisters-in-law, Esther Klapperich (Lawrence),
Estelle Klapperich (Wilfred) and Mary Ann Klapperich
(Norbert). |

Richard Leslie Harris, age 80, passed away peacefully from
this earth at his winter home in Apache Junction, Arizona,
on Monday, January 30, 2012, with his wife and members of
his family at his side.
Memorial services will be
held at 2:00 p.m., on Friday, May 4, 2012, at the First
United Methodist Church in Osage, with Pastor Sam Mack
officiating. Inurnment will be the Osage Cemetery. There
will be a time for lunch and fellowship following the
services at the church.
Richard was born on May
14, 1931, on a farm near Nora Springs, Iowa, in Cerro Gordo
County. He was the son of Leslie J. and Opal V. (Beery)
Harris. He lived on farms in Cerro Gordo and Mitchell
Counties. He attended country schools and graduated from the
Plymouth High School in 1950. Richard married Thelma Jean
Elsbury on June 15, 1952. To this union two children were
born, Sandra Raye and Curtis Leslie. Richard and Thelma
farmed until 1968. Then he went to work for the Iowa D.O.T.
in highway maintenance, retiring after 25 ½ years.
Richard was active in the
First United Methodist Church of Osage, serving on the
trustee board and the SPPR and volunteering for any
assistance needed with funerals and other events by the
ladies of the church. He was a long time member of the Cedar
Valley Engine Club, served as a Boy Scout Leader, loved
camping and fishing, playing cards, golf, pitching horse
shoes, and above all he loved to dance.
Richard is survived by his
wife, Thelma Harris of Osage; his daughter, Sandra (James)
Lee of Paragould, Arkansas and children, Mark and
Christopher Wahl; his son, Curtis (Donna) Harris of Lake
Dallas, Texas and children, Zachary and Casey Harris; and
three sisters, Arlene Balsley of Charles City, Bernadine
Lifka of Rock Falls, Illinois and Illa June (Dean) Fuchs of
Pine Island, Minnesota.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; and one sister, Charolette Klemesrud.
