Mildred Clarice
Thompson, age 89, of Osage, died
on Monday, October 2, 2006, at
the Osage Rehabilitation and
Health Care Center in Osage.
Funeral services were held at
11:00 a.m., on Friday, October
6, 2006, at the First United
Methodist Church in Osage, with
Rev. Dr. J. Samuel Subramanian
officiating. Burial was in the
Story City Cemetery in Story
City, Iowa.
Mildred was born on April 21,
1917 at Story City, Iowa, the
daughter of Nels and Mabel
(Thompson) Mathiason. She
graduated from the Story City
High School in 1935. On March
12, 1941, Mildred married
Charles T. Thompson in Story
City. They farmed in the Story
City area until they moved to
Eldora, Iowa, where they farmed
and lived for 16 years. They
later moved to Osage, where they
continued to farm.
Mildred was an active
participant in their farming
operation. She was an active
member of the First United
Methodist Church in Osage, where
she was involved with the
Ladies' Aid. Mildred and Charles
also worked as custodians at the
church. She enjoyed raising
chickens, gardening and flowers,
cooking, reading, and
needlework. Mildred loved her
grandchildren, and they will
miss her scalloped corn, mashed
potatoes, and kringla.
She was preceded in death by her
parents; her husband, Charles T.
Thompson in 1997; an infant son,
Charles Steven Thompson; a
brother, Emery Mathiason; and a
son-in-law, Ronald Maas.
Mildred is survived by two
daughters, Patricia Maas of
Maple Grove, Minnesota and Linda
Thompson of Mason City; a son,
Steven Thompson of Osage; eight
grandchildren; six
great-grandchildren; and a
sister, Celia (Arlon) Nessa of
Hubbard.
Funeral arrangements were made
by the Champion-Bucheit Funeral
Home, Osage.

Delmer D. Daniels

Delmer Dale
Daniels, 59, of Mason City,
passed away on Monday, October
9, 2006.
Funeral services were held on
Thursday, October 12, 2006, at
the Bethlehem Lutheran Church,
Mason City. The Rev. Mark E.
Lavrenz officiated. Burial was
in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery,
Ackley, Iowa.
Delmer joined the U.S. Army and
served in Vietnam with the 2nd
Battalion, 14th Infantry
Division, stationed at Chu Chi
and Tay Nihn. He was honored and
recognized on April 20, 2006 for
his sacrifice in the Republic of
Vietnam with "The Order of The
Silver Rose." He was wounded by
exposure to Agent Orange.
Delmer is survived by his wife,
Marjory; and his family.

(Anderson) (Nicholson) Gould,
94, celebration of life ended on
Sunday, October 15, 2006, at the
Stacyville Community Nursing
Home.
Funeral services will be held at
10:30 a.m., on Thursday, October
19, 2006, at the Deer Creek
Lutheran Church, Carpenter, with
Rev. Lance Kittleson
officiating. Burial will be in
the Newburg Cemetery. Visitation
will be held on Wednesday
evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m., at
the Schroeder & Sites Funeral
Home, St. Ansgar.
Ina was born in Worth County on
January 14, 1912, to William and
Hattie (Carlsgard) Anderson. She
was a lifelong member of the
Deer Creek Lutheran Church. She
graduated from the Otranto High
School in 1929.
In 1934, she was united in
marriage to Harold "Colonel"
Nicholson in Garner, Iowa. They
owned and operated the Carpenter
Sale Barn for several years and
also Nicholson's Cafe. After
Harold's death, she worked for
the Good Samaritan Center in St.
Ansgar as their first Head Cook
until she retired. She was
married to Kermit Gould in 1974.
Family was her greatest joy.
Family food and fun were the
order of all holidays. Hobbies
included her flower garden,
cooking, playing cards, bingo,
and baseball; her favorite team
was the Minnesota Twins. She and
Kermit traveled a good deal,
wintering in both Arizona and
Texas.
Ina is survived
by her daughters, Yvonne
(Melvin) Albrecht of Leroy,
Minnesota, Sharon Wilder Hintz
of Carpenter, Iowa and Nancy
Harvey of Stuart, Florida; one
son, Harold "Butch" (Andrea)
Nicholson of Port St. Lucie,
Florida; 14 grandchildren; 25
great-grandchildren; many nieces
and nephews; and two
sisters-in-law, Ronnie (Harvey)
Anderson of Carpenter, Iowa and
Arlene (Don) Anderson of St.
Ansgar, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by
both husbands; one daughter,
Phyllis (Ed) Mashany; her
parents; 2 brothers; and 4
sisters.

Delores Hoffman,
80, of St. Ansgar, died on
Sunday, October 15, 2006, at the
Mitchell County Regional Health
Center, Hospice Unit, Osage.
Funeral services will be held on
Wednesday, October 18, 2006, at
1:00 p.m., at the St. Peter
Lutheran Church, Toeterville,
Iowa, with the Rev. Lance
Kittleson officiating. Burial
will be in the St. Peter
Cemetery.
Delores was born on October 31,
1925 on a farm in Mitchell
County, daughter of August and
Helen Feldt. She was baptized in
St. Ansgar, confirmed in Osage,
graduated from the Osage High
School and attended Iowa State
Teachers College in Cedar Falls.
She was a rural school teacher
at Rock No. 5.
She was united in marriage to
Merle Hoffman on Thanksgiving
Day, November 22, 1945 in Osage,
Iowa. They made their home on a
dairy farm east of Toeterville.
They were lifetime members of
the St. Peter Lutheran Church,
where Delores was active in
Circle and other church
activities. She enjoyed making
crafts, quilting, and spending
time with family.
They were parents of Larry (Sue)
Hoffman of Toeterville, Diane
(Dean) Steffen of Orchard,
Dennis Hoffman of St. Ansgar,
LuAnn (James) Downs of St.
Charles, Iowa, Lori Sweetland of
Toeterville and Karyl O'Connor
of Holiday, Florida; nine
grandchildren, Rachelle Hoffman,
Renae (Dan) Northrop, Gary
(Verna) Steffen, Jerry (Karen)
Steffen, Kyle Sweetland, Josh
Sweetland, Nicholas Sweetland,
Patrick O'Connor and Joey
O'Connor; and nine
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her
parents; an infant brother,
Eugene; and three sisters,
Arlene Smith, Norma Jean Miller
and Doris Glassel.

John Henry Miller

John Henry
Miller, 53, of Osage, died on
Saturday, October 21, 2006, at
the Hospice of North Iowa in
Mason City, Iowa.
Funeral services were held at
10:00 a.m., on Tuesday, October
24, at the Mayer Funeral Home,
Austin, Minnesota, with Father
Joe Fogal officiating. Interment
was in the Calvary Cemetery,
with military rites by the
American Legion Post No. 91 and
VFW Post No. 1216.
John was born on January 29,
1953 in Austin, Minnesota, to
John Jesse and Ann (Staresnic)
Miller.
He proudly served his country
during the Vietnam War in the
1st/7 Infantry, 1st Cavalry
Division. John served in the
Army branch of the military from
1971 through 1975. He was
awarded the Air Medal on June
28, 1972, and the Combat
Infantry Badge.
In April of 1995, he was engaged
to Brenda Kloberdanz and on
October 17, 2006, the two of
them married in Rochester,
Minnesota.
John enjoyed
fishing and telling tales with
his many friends, traveling,
playing pool, and sharing his
experiences from his service in
Vietnam.
He had a soft spot in his heart
and enjoyed visits from his
granddaughters, Kinsey and
Kylee. He also had a very
special relationship with his
three nephews, Jesse, Joey, and
Travis, for whom he felt like a
father.
John will be greatly missed by
his family, friends, and by his
wife, Brenda. His humor and
great spirit will be cherished
always.
Survivors include his wife,
Brenda Miller of Osage;
daughter, Shelby (Adam) Kline of
Mason City; sons, David
Kloberdanz and Nicholas
Kloberdanz, both of Cedar Falls;
granddaughters, Kinsey and Kylee
Kline; mother and her special
friend, Ann Miller and Rocky
Rasmussen of Austin, Minnesota;
brothers, Tim (Pat) Miller and

Austin, Minnesota; father-in-law
and mother-in-law, Marloe and

Florence L.
Stout, age 76, of Lowden, passed
away on Thursday, October 26,
2006, at the Wheatland Manor
Nursing Home located in
Wheatland, Iowa.
Funeral services were held at
the Zion United Church of Christ
in Lowden, Iowa, on Monday,
October 30, 2006. The Reverend
Barbara Muhs officiated. Burial
will be at 11:00 a.m., on
Tuesday, October 31, 2006, at
the Liberty Township Cemetery
located in Little Cedar, Iowa.
Florence, the daughter of Fred
and Gladys (Bosteter) Weber was
born on December 2, 1929 at
Little Cedar, Iowa. She married
William K. Stout on July 1, 1948
at Little Cedar. He died on
September 28, 2003.
Florence served as a director of
the American Trust and Savings
Bank in Lowden for over 30
years. She was especially
dedicated to her family. She
enjoyed golf, bowling and being
with friends.
Her survivors include a
daughter, Karen (Brett) Baldwin
of Eldridge; son, Kent (Pam) of
Lowden; granddaughters, Mallory
Baldwin and Parker Stout;
sister, Jeanette (Wayne) Doane
of El Cajon, California; and
brother, Ross (Dorothy) Weber of
Pomona, California.
The Chapman Funeral Home,
Clarence and Wheatland, Iowa,

George Barrett

George "Motorcycle George"
Barrett, age 70, passed away at
his residence in Peoria,
Illinois, on Thursday, October
26, 2006.
Funeral services
were held on Monday, October 30,
2006, at the Davison-Fulton
Bartonville Chapel, with Rev.
Keith Teabolt officiating.
Interment was in the Lancaster
Cemetery at Glasford.
George Barrett, was born to
Donald V. Barrett and Calista M.
(Weber) Barrett, on August 16,
1936, at home in Fayette County,
Iowa. At the age of two the
family moved to Mitchell, where
his father operated the
Interstate Power Plant. George
grew up and attended school in
Mitchell and later joined the
service.
After his stint in the service,
George was united in marriage to
Darla Nordyke of Osage and later
divorced. Together they had four
children, Debra, David, Steven
Barrett and Christie Berg. All
live in the Peoria area. George
later married Rose Lyon and
gained two step-children, Vickie
Stambaugh and Rodney Lyon, they
were also divorced. He married
Beth Baker in November of 1986,
who had three children, Jeremy
(Erica) Elliott, Dawn Putney and
Brandy Carpenter, all together
giving him a total of 18
grandchildren and six
great-grandchildren.
George worked for Caterpillar in
Peoria until due to bad health
he had to take early retirement.
During his tenure there he
belonged to the UAW Local 974,
which he was very proud of and
was a very active member. In
April of 2006 George was
diagnosed with terminal lung
cancer.
George was an avid motorcyclist.
He rebuilt cycles and for the
last few years he fixed and
rebuilt computers.
His funeral
procession was led by a Harley
Hearse Carriage, followed by
several cyclist, friends and
relatives. George rode out in
style.
He was preceded in death by his
parents; brothers, Thomas and
John Barrett; and sisters,
Marion Maston and Elizabeth
Lerum.
His survivors include his wife,
Beth; stepchildren;
grandchildren;
great-grandchildren; and two
sisters, Delores Barrett of
Garner and Margaret Fink of Nora
Springs; and several nephews and
nieces.

James "Jim" Wells, age 67, of
Osage, died on Sunday, October
29, 2006, at the Mercy Medical
Center-North Iowa in Mason City.
Funeral services
will be held at 1:00 p.m., on
Thursday, November 2, 2006, at
the First United Methodist
Church in Osage, with Rev. Dr.
J. Samuel Subramanian
officiating. Burial will be in
the Osage Cemetery. Visitation
will be from 5-7:00 p.m., on
Wednesday, at the
Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in
Osage, and will continue one
hour before the services at the
church on Thursday.
Jim was born on November 21,
1938 at Mason City, Iowa, the
son of James and Viola
(Haukness) Wells. He graduated
from the Mason City High School
in 1956. Jim moved to Osage in
1959, where he owned and
operated Jim's Electric.
On December 28, 1984, he married
Carol (Wedge) Huisman at Little
Cedar. Jim served as a mentor
for the Bridges Mentoring
Program. He enjoyed his family,
his coffee friends, and playing
cribbage.
He was preceded in death by his
parents.
Jim is survived by his wife,
Carol Wells of Osage; four sons,
Jeff (Lisa) Wells of Columbia,
Missouri, Jay Wells of Iowa City
and children, Alyssa (Wells)
Brazicek, Ryan Wells, and Scott

Evelyn Ruth (Halverson) Brown

Evelyn Ruth
(Halverson) Brown, 92, of
Charles City, passed away
peacefully on Monday, October
30, 2006, from Alzheimer's
disease.
Funeral services will be held at
2:00 p.m., on Friday, November
3, 2006, at Our Saviors Lutheran
Church in Osage. Pastor Dennis
Hansen will officiate. Burial
will be in the Rock Creek
Cemetery, rural Osage. The
family will greet friends an
hour before the service on
Friday.
Evelyn was born in St. Ansgar,
on September 27, 1914 and
graduated from the Osage High
School. She then attended Iowa
State Teacher's College in Cedar
Falls, getting a teaching
certificate and beginning a 29
year teaching career in rural
one-room school houses in St.
Ansgar, Rock Creek and
Knoxville. She also taught in
Cedar Falls, Iowa, Roseville,
Minnesota, Latimer, Iowa and
Marble Rock, Iowa.
In 1942, Evelyn met Perry Brown
in Des Moines and they were
married three months later on
September 19, 1942. After WW II
they settled in the Cedar
Falls/Waterloo area and had four
daughters. While teaching and
raising her family, Evelyn
continued her education finally
achieving her B.A. from the Iowa
State Teacher's College in 1961.
Evelyn was always very active in
the Lutheran Church in women's
organizations, teaching Sunday
School, leading bible studies,
prayer groups, and supporting
her Pastor husband. Evelyn's
faith in God was the base for
everything in her life. Mother
was "Super Woman" before there
was a name for it.
Evelyn is survived by her loving
and devoted husband of 64 years,
Reverend Perry AL. Brown; two
daughters, Perilyn Ruth Brown
Olsen and Solveig (Bruce)
Swanson; six grandchildren,
Rebecca, Eric, Andrew, Meghan,
Christopher and Brandon; one
great-grandson, Ian; and a
sister, Jeanette (Kermit)
Halverson.
Evelyn was
preceded in death by two
daughters, Carla Brown-Dukes and
infant daughter, Paula Jean;
three sisters, Olga Halverson,
Milly Neuberger and Marian
Smalley; three brothers, Harold,
Conrad and Bentley Halverson.
The Hauser Funeral Home, in
Charles City, was in charge of
the arrangements.
