Daniel T. Asfahl

July 12, 2006

Daniel Thomas Asfahl, age 41, of Winona, Minnesota, formerly of Riceville, passed away on Saturday, July 1, 2006, from a heart attack while inner-tubing on the Trempealeau River, north of Dodge, Wisconsin.

Funeral services were held on Friday, July 7, at the St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Riceville, with Rev. Michael Parris officiating. Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery in Riceville.

Daniel was born on July 11, 1964 in Riceville, to Ralph Neil and Edith Marie (Affeldt) Asfahl. He graduated from the Riceville High School in 1983.

Daniel is survived by his mother, Edith; sisters, Dianne and Debra; and a brother, David.

Florence B. Wolske

July 12, 2006

Florence B. Wolske, 95, of Stacyville, Iowa, died on Saturday, July 8, 2006, at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Osage, Iowa.

A graveside inurnment will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, July 15, at the Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa, with Rev. Jeff Dahlin officiating.

Florence was born on October 18, 1910 in Menomonie, Wisconsin, the daughter of Adolph and Christina (Vigerust) Wolske. She graduated from the Mason City High in 1928. She was a long time resident of rural New Haven.

Florence is survived by her sister, Maxine Wilke of Oregon, Wisconsin; and several nieces and nephews.

Gerald C. Mooberry

July 19, 2006

Gerald Mooberry, age 63, of Leesburg, Florida, died at his home, on Wednesday, July 12, 2006.

After cremation, graveside services will be held in the Sunnyside Memorial Gardens in Charles City, Iowa.

Gerald was born on April 17, 1943 in Charles City, Iowa, to Clinton and Louise (Dailey) Mooberry. He graduated from the Charles City High School in May of 1961. On November 30, 1963, he married Carolyn Bromley.

Gerald worked construction for many years and also at White Farm Equipment in Charles City, before retiring from WR Grace in Sulphur, Louisiana in May of 1998.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Mooberry of Leesburg, Florida; one son, James Mooberry of Leesburg, Florida; two daughters, Jodi (Mark) Allen of Sulphur, Louisiana and Janet (Kurt) Popp of Osage; two brothers, Dale (Diane) Mooberry of Osage and William (Mary) Mooberry of Charles City; two sisters, Janice (Lloyd) Robbins of Ionia and Barbara (Dave) Lensing of Charles City; six grandchildren, Jarid Mooberry of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Ryan and Shelby Blanchette of Sulphur, Louisiana and Kyle, Jordan and Hailey Popp of Osage.

Preceding him in death were his grandparents; parents, Clinton and Louise Mooberry; one brother, Dennis Mooberry; and two sisters, Sharon Maulsby and Connie Jenn.

James R. Davis

July 19, 2006

James R. Davis, age 87, of Mason City and formerly of rural Orchard, passed away on Wednesday, July 12, 2006, at the IOOF Home in Mason City.

Funeral services were held on Friday, July 14, at the Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage, with Rev. Dennis Hanson and Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Interment was in the Grafton Cemetery.

He is survived by his son, Phillip Davis of Grafton; daughter, Karen (Steve) Gourley of Mason City; three grandchildren; step-mom, Frances Davis; sister-in-law, E. June Davis; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Allan Phillip Hein

July 25, 2006

Allan P. Hein, died on Sunday, July 16, 2006.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, July 19, at the St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, with the Rev. Douglas Mathison officiating. Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery.

Allan Phillip Hein, was born on September 22, 1947 at Osage, Iowa, to Edwin and Clarice (Paulson) Hein. He graduated from the Osage High School and attended Community College at Clinton, Iowa and then received his BS Degree from the University of Wisconsin at Stout. He served in the Air Force for four years.

Allan married Janis Parker on February 9, 1974 at St. Angelo, Texas. Following his discharge from the Air Force he taught at the Vocational High School in Davenport, Iowa for three years and then returned to Stout and received his masters degree in Vocational Rehabilitation.

They then moved to Prairie du Chien, where he worked at the Opportunity Center for 18 years and later worked for the State of Wisconsin as a counselor at the Satter Building.

Allan was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Janis; two sons, Matthew Hein of Steuben, Wisconsin and Jamison Hein of Oshkosh, Wisconsin; three siblings, Russell (Gloria) Hein of Little Cedar, Robert (Ann) Hein of Winfield, Illinois and Carol (Gordon) Dill of Salinas, California.

Louis T. Johnson

July 25, 2006

Louis T. Johnson, age 90, of rural Rudd, died on Tuesday, July 18, 2006, at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, July 22, at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church, Osage, with Rev. R. Dawson Tornes officiating. Burial was in the Rock Creek Cemetery.

Louis was born on April 27, 1916 in rural Floyd County, the son of O. J. and Marie (Haines) Johnson. Louis graduated from the Osage High School in 1934. He was united in marriage to Alice Herron on February 22, 1939. They farmed the family farm, retiring in 1982. Louis was a lifelong member of the Rock Creek Lutheran Church.

Louis was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Marie Johnson and Lola Brandau.

He is survived by his wife, Alice of rural Rudd; three sons, Louis (Betty) Johnson of Houston, Texas, Kenneth (Erma) Johnson of Spokane, Washington and Keith (Suzanne) Johnson of Mantorville, Minnesota; one sister, Olive (Raymond) Borchardt of Mason City; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

Ruth Josephine Laura Wilde

July 25, 2006

Ruth Josephine Laura Wilde, 90, of rural Osage, died on Thursday, July 20, 2006, at the Good Samaritan Center, St. Ansgar, Iowa.

Funeral services were held on Monday, July 24, at the St. John's Lutheran Church, Rock Township, with Rev. Wayne Ellingson and AiM Irmgard Ellingson officiating. Burial will be in the St. John's Cemetery.

Ruth Josephine Laura (Dutte) Wilde, was born to John and Sophia (Seeger) Dutte on December 20, 1915 at home, north of Toeterville, Iowa. She was baptized on January 2, 1916, by Rev. E.M. Lehmonn at the St. Peter Lutheran Church, Toeterville. Ruth was confirmed on April 13, 1930, by Rev. Bosholm at the St. Peter Lutheran Church, Toeterville. She attended school through 8th grade at the Drown School House north of Toeterville.

On August 29, 1943, Ruth married Arnold Wilde at the St. Ansgar Emmanuel Lutheran Church. To this union was born 2 sons, Richard and Frederick. Ruth enjoyed gardening, and always had the coffee on, but was best known for her cinnamon rolls. Every visitor always left with a pan of her cinnamon rolls.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Sophia Dutte; husband, Arnold Wilde in 1976; stillborn son, Frederick in 1951; and daughter, Marlys Jones in 1981.

Ruth is survived by two sons, Richard (Sandy) Wilde of Osage and Allen (Mariedna) Wilde of Osage; six grandchildren, Brian Wilde, Barry Wilde, Joaquin Jones, Janie Jones-Smeby, Julie Dahl and Kevin Wilde; 9 great-grandchildren; sister, Mildred Walk of Kensett; and son-in-law, Charles Jones of Nashua.

Sterling D. Sewright

August 1, 2006

Sterling D. Sewright, 83, of Osage, died on Friday, July 21, 2006, at his home in Osage.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, July 28, at the First Baptist Church in Osage, with Rev. Douglas Brown officiating. Burial was in the Osage Cemetery.

Sterling was born on May 6, 1923 near Orchard, the son of Leon and Trulie (Erbe) Sewright. He graduated from the Orchard High School. Sterling was united in marriage to Berdene Williams on July 23, 1947, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They farmed near the New Haven area until 1964, when they moved to Osage. He was a cross country truck driver with Boss lines and CRST. In his retirement years he enjoyed fishing, gardening and traveling. Sterling and Berdene wintered many years in Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Berdene in 2001.

Sterling is survived by four children, Gloria Sewright of Austin, Minnesota, Lowell (Annette) Sewright of Salem, South Dakota, Janan (Jon) Skillingstad of Fergus Falls, Minnesota and Kent (Jan) Sewright of Des Moines; nine grandchildren, Jaya DeVries, Arianna and Paige Sewright, Hannes, Ansty, Brinna and Joren Skillingstad, Amy and Kyle Sewright; and two great-grandchildren, Shealynn DeVries and Keizha Blase.

Yvonne R. Goodman

July 25, 2006

Yvonne R. Goodman, age 76, of Monett, Missouri, and formerly of Osage, died on Sunday, July 23, 2006, at the Cox-Monett Hospital in Monett, Missouri.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Wednesday, July 26, at the St. Johns Lutheran Church in Monett, with Rev. Richard Cody officiating. The arrangements were under the direction of the Buchanan Funeral Home in Monett. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Thursday, July 27, at the Osage Cemetery in Osage, with Rev. Dennis Hanson officiating.

Yvonne was born on November 27, 1929 in Osage, Iowa, the daughter of Allert and Rikka (Haugen) Olson. She attended schools in Osage and graduated from the Osage High School. She was united in marriage to James Goodman on March 25, 1956 in Washington, D.C.

Yvonne was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in Monett, Missouri. She was the personal secretary to U.S. Senator H. R. Gross of Iowa from 1948 until he retired from office. She was a retired secretary to U.S. Senator Grassley of Iowa.

Yvonne was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Joyce Williams of Florida.

She is survived by her husband, James Goodman of Monett; brother, Gilman Olson of Osage; sister, Aida Knudson and husband, Edward of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews.

Janet M. Zieman

August 1, 2006

Janet M. Zieman, 70, of Osage, formerly of Rockford, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 26, 2006, at her daughter's home in Overland Park, Kansas.

Funeral services were held on Monday, July 31, at the First Wesleyan Church in Charles City, with Rev. Adam L. Schulz and Rev. Dennis Bachman officiating. Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery in Rockford.

Janet is survived by three sons, John, Raymond and Mark Zieman; three daughters, Christi Squier, Lloydette Zieman and Zelda Hoveland; ten grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Paul M. Kolbet

August 1, 2006

Paul M. Kolbet, 88, of Osage, formerly of Cresco, died on Friday, July 28, 2006, at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage, Iowa.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, August 1, at 10:00 a.m., at the Notre Dame Parish-Assumption Worship Center, with burial in the Calvary Cemetery, both at Cresco, Iowa.

Paul M. Kolbet, was born on September 30, 1917, on a Chickasaw County farm, near Alta Vista, Iowa, the son of Nicholas and Mary (Ravers) Kolbet. He was educated at the St. Williams Grade and High School in Alta Vista and graduated from Iowa State College (now University) in 1944. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II prior to graduating from college. On May 24, 1944, he was united in marriage to Geneva G. White at the St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Alta Vista, Iowa.

He moved to Cresco in the fall of 1944 to become manager of the Farmer's Cooperative Creamery Assn. He received his Securities License in 1959 and then took the NASD test at the University of Minnesota. This license he has held ever since. In 1964, he joined J.E. O'Donnell in the real estate business, which he continued as Paul Kolbet Real Estate, until his retirement in 2005. In 1961 he and others promoted and built Cresco Pellets, Inc., which was later sold to Cargill, Inc. in 1967.

He was a member of the Notre Dame Parish-St. Joseph's Church, serving on the church council, he served on the board of directors of the Cresco Country Club, he served on the Junior Chamber Board and he was district chairman of the Boy Scouts. Paul was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Catholic Order of Foresters serving many years as the juvenile director, the American Legion, and the Local, State, and National Associations of REALTORS.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Leonard, Nicholas, and Joseph; and one sister, Leone Lentz.

Survivors include his wife, Geneva of Osage; two daughters, Kathryn Karrigan of Hainesville, Illinois and S. Joyce Kolbet SSND of Mankato, Minnesota; two sons, Kevin (Janean) and Philip (friend, Linda Kuehne) and daughters, Bradie and Jacey Kuehne), all of Osage; four grandchildren, Michelle (Andy) Ptasienski, Kathleen Karrigan, Kyle and Karen Kolbet; five great-grandchildren, Joey, Jackson, Abraham, Andersen and Maddux Ptasienski; and two sisters, Evelyn Adams and Marie Gebel, both of Elma, Iowa.

Armond A. Borchardt

August 8, 2006

Armond A. Borchardt, age 79, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2006, at his home.

Funeral services were held at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Joplin, on Tuesday, August 1, 2006, with interment in the Veteran's National Cemetery, Fort Scott, Kansas.

Armond was born on a farm near St. Ansgar, Iowa, to Frank J. and Anna Borchardt on February 4, 1927. The family moved to a farm northeast of Osage, Iowa, in the fall of his first year. Armond was baptized in the Christian faith at three months of age and confirmed at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Osage, Iowa on April 6, 1941. He attended a rural school and helped with the farm work until he enlisted in the service of his country, serving in various places in Texas and Mississippi for 46 months.

After his discharge from the military he attended Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant, Iowa and transferred to Iowa State Teachers College where he earned his Masters Degree in Education. He taught in several high schools and a college in Iowa and continued his education for certification as a school counselor. He also worked as a dispatcher of trucks in interstate commerce.

On June 6, 1953, he married Marian Mueller of Paulina, Iowa.

He is survived by his loving wife, Marian; four children, Alan and wife, Bonnie of Phoenix, Arizona, Mark and wife, Cheri of Lorena, Texas, Scott of Concordia, Missouri and Anne Emily and husband, Ed Boron of Romeoville, Illinois; five grandchildren, Greg, Jeff and Alicia Borchardt and Scott and Katherine Boron; brothers, Raymond of Mason City and Leland of St. Ansgar; sister, Ruby Borlaug of Cedar Falls; and numerous other relatives and friends.
