with the Rev. Ray E. Atwood
officiating. Burial was in the
Lady of Lourdes Cemetery in
Lourdes, Iowa.
Survivors include
her husband, "Bert" of Elma;
sons, Bob (Kelly) of Riceville
and Dan (Sandy) of Mason City;
five grandchildren; one
great-granddaughter; two
sisters, Mrs. Clarence (Irene)

Elnora
was born on June 18, 1914 in
Granville, Iowa, the daughter of
Anthony and Frances (Schmidt)
Grady. She was a member of the
Catholic Church.
Survivors include
her husband, Edward; seven

husband, Brad of Nixa, Dennis
Burlage and wife, Liz of
Florida, Roger Burlage and wife,
Cheri of California, Cyril
Burlage and wife, Esther of
Iowa, Norma Perrigo of Nixa,

John of Iowa; 21 grandchildren;
13 great-grandchildren; four

She was preceded

Bobby
Carmody, 71, of Charles City,
died on Wednesday, March 8,
2006, at the Mercy Medical
Center in Mason City.
A Funeral Mass was held on
Friday, March 10, at the
Immaculate Conception Catholic
Church, with the Reverend Carl
Ries, pastor officiating. Burial
was in the Riverside Cemetery.
Military honors were conducted
by the Charles City Ceremonial
Unit.
Bobby Marvin
Carmody, was born on January 1,
1935 in Cerro Gordo County, the
son of John and Josephine
(Rogers) Carmody. He received
his education from the Mason
City Public School. Bobby
proudly served in the United
States Navy during the Korean
Conflict. On July 20, 1956, he
was married to Alberta Johnson
in Chicago. They later divorced.
He worked for many years as a
metal slitter in Chicago and
then moved to Osage where he was
part owner of Firestone Tire. He
was a member of the Chicago
Lions Club and the local VFW.
Bobby looked forward to fishing,
playing cribbage and being a pit
man for stock car racing. He
also enjoyed spending time with
his family, especially his
grandchildren.
Living family
members include five children,
Bob (Deb) Carmody of Britt,
Kathleen (Rick) Wilkins of
Charles City, Theresa (Larry)
Grein of Osage, Daniel
(Margaret) Carmody of Charles
City and Debra (Edward)
Shindelar of Little Cedar; 12
grandchildren; a great-grandson;
a brother, Roger (Mabel) Carmody
of Arkansas; and a sister,
Rosella Mayo of Illinois.
He was preceded
in death by his parents; a
grandson, Jeffrey Obermeier;
three brothers, Buster, Bud and
Lloyd Carmody; and four sisters,
Zola and Kay Mahn, Stella
Buchanan and Thelma McCourt.

Anita G. Nelson,
age 86, formerly a resident of
The Manor in Mason City, died on
Wednesday, March 8, 2006, at the
USA Healthcare in Mason City,
under the care of Hospice of
North Iowa.
Cremation has taken place. At
the request of Mrs. Nelson, no
funeral or memorial services
will be held. Private graveside
services at the Osage Cemetery
will be conducted at a future
date. Memorials may be given to
Hospice of North Iowa, radio
station KCMR or the Trinity
Lutheran Church, all of Mason
City.
Anita was born on
July 2, 1919 in Osage, the
daughter of Henry and Cordelia
(Hansen) Gaarder. After
graduating from the Osage High
School in 1935, she worked as a
legal secretary in Osage. She
married Earl M. Nelson on April
30, 1939. The Nelsons resided in
Osage and Ames before moving to
Mason City in 1944. In 1948,
they established the Earl M.
Nelson Painting and Sandblasting
Service, which they operated
jointly for more than 35 years.
The Nelsons joined the Trinity
Lutheran Church in Mason City in
1944 and Anita continued to be
an active member until her
death. She was a member of the
Mason City Sunshine Sewing
Group, the Universal Study Club
and several circles at Trinity
Lutheran Church.
In 1993, Anita moved to The
Manor in Mason City, where she
participated in many activities
sponsored by the facility. She
enjoyed sewing and quilting and
during her lifetime made
hundreds of quilts for family,
friends and local charities,
including Birthright, Northern
Lights, Transition Center,
Gerard Treatment Center and Tugs
Daycare.
Anita is survived
by her four children, Judith
Jones and husband, Fred of Mason
City, Jeanne Cooley and husband,
Edward of Mars, Pennsylvania,
Kenneth Nelson and wife, Judylee
of Ozark, Missouri and Deborah
Hartley and husband, Richard of
Mason City; grandchildren, Ryan
Loberg of Pinkerington, Ohio,
Jeffrey Nelson of Minneapolis,
Minnesota, Cynthia Nordman of
Mason City, Elizabeth Hartley of
Des Moines and Jennifer Burk of
Nixa, Missouri; seven foster
grandchildren, John Ostryte, Joe
Ruelas, Abel Ruelas and Kathy
Requa, all residing in New
Mexico, Delila Ruelas De'Avilla
and Nora Ruelas, both residing
in Texas and Charles Requa of
Mason City; and eight
great-grandchildren.
Anita was
preceded in death by her
husband, Earl; her sister,
Elaine Ennis; three brothers,
Norman, Merrill and Lawrence
Gaarder; step-grandson, Eric
Cooley; an infant brother; and
her parents.
The
Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in

the Stacyville area, died on
Saturday, March 11, 2006, near
Winter, Wisconsin, from injuries
he received in a snowmobile
accident.
A Mass of Christian Burial will
be held at 11:00 a.m., on
Wednesday, March 15, at the
Visitation Catholic Church in
Stacyville, with Rev. John Moser
officiating. Burial will be in
the Visitation Cemetery. Friends
may call from 4-8:00 p.m., on
Tuesday, at the Visitation
Catholic Church, where there
will be a Rosary at 4:30 p.m.
and a Scripture Service at 6
p.m. Friends may also call one
hour before the services at the
church.
Michael was born
on September 30, 1971 at Osage,
Iowa, the son of Wilbur and
Charlotta (Winkels) Simon. He
attended the Visitation Catholic
School in Stacyville, graduated
from the Osage High School in
1990 and graduated from the
Dakota County Technical College
in Rosemont, Minnesota, with a
degree as a heavy equipment
mechanic. He was currently
employed at the Truck Crane
Service and Phillippi Equipment
Company in Eagan, Minnesota.
He enjoyed hunting bear and
deer, NASCAR racing,
snowmobiling and cooking for
family and friends. "Hoss" was
always willing to help people
and enjoyed life.
Michael is
survived by his parents, Wilbur
and Charlotta Simon of
Stacyville; three sisters,
Audrey (Robert) Umstead of
Orchard, June (David) Retterath
of McIntire and Carol (Jason)
Tesch of Carpenter; two
brothers, Terry Simon of
Hastings, Minnesota and Ricky
(Christal) Simon of St. Paul,
Minnesota; and two nieces, one
nephew, numerous aunts, uncles,
cousins and friends.

Sorlie, age 102, of Osage, died

Health Care Center in Osage.

Dawson Tornes officiating.
Burial will be in the Rock Creek
Cemetery. Visitation is from

the Champion-Bucheit Funeral
Home in Osage and will continue
one hour before the services at
the church.
Borghild was born
on September 23, 1903 near
Osage, the daughter of Lars and
Maren (Lund) Sorlie. She
graduated from the Osage High
School and took a year of Normal
Training. In 1927, she began
teaching in rural schools. In
1934, she started working for
the ASCS Government Office,
working there until her
retirement in 1964.
She was a life long member of
the Rock Creek Lutheran Church,
where she taught Sunday School
for many years. Borghild's faith
was very important to her. She
continued to be a local
historian and enjoyed hand
quilting.
Borghild is
survived by three nieces, Lois
(Chuck) Ruehlow of Osage,
Margaret (John) Lattimore of San
Antonio, Texas and Elizabeth
Vulk of Osage; two nephews,
Loren (Barb) Berge of Osage and
Arthur (Connie) Berge of Osage.
She was preceded
in death by her parents; four
sisters; and three brothers.

City, after a battle with

Elizabeth was
born on February 19, 1951 in
Osage, the daughter of Alfred
and Elfriede (Cechak) Danzow.
Elizabeth graduated from the
Osage High School in 1969 and
continued her education at the
La James School of Cosmetology.
She was employed by Hair
Designer at Clear Lake.
Elizabeth married Ken Rasmus in
1971 and to this union came one
son, Shad. Elizabeth enjoyed
knitting, sewing and counted
cross stitch. Lizz made many
beautiful wall hanging and
afghans over the years.
Elizabeth will be
greatly missed by her son, Shad
Rasmus of Clear Lake; one
brother, Paul and wife, Nancy
Danzow of Osage; sister, Renate
and husband, Fred Van Valkenburg
of Tennessee; an aunt, Elizabeth
Cummings of Osage; and good
friends, Kermit and Judy Studer
of Clear Lake.
She was preceded
in death by her parents, Alfred

Catherine Kleckner, age 89, of
Osage, died on Monday, March 13,
2006, at the Osage
Rehabilitation and Health Care
Center in Osage.
Funeral services were held on
Saturday, March 18, at the
Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in
Osage, with Rev. John Moser
officiating. Burial was in the
St Peter's Catholic Cemetery at
New Haven.
Agnes Catherine
Dargan, was born on October 28,
1916, to James and Emma
(Aurenger) Dargan in Riceville.
She graduated from the Riceville
High School in 1935. On June 15,
1937, she married Adrian E.
Kleckner at the Immaculate
Conception Catholic Church in
Riceville, making their home in
Osage.
Agnes was a homemaker and was
also involved with her husband's
business, known as Kleckner
Excavating and later known as
Kleckner and Hartwig Excavating
and Tiling. She also worked part
time at local businesses in
Osage.
She was a member of the Sacred
Heart Guild, Women's Bowling
League and also worked many
years on the Election Board,
which she always looked forward
to. Raising a large family she
always had challenges for her
children when they came home
from school, such as a word of
the day, spelling and meaning
and looking up subjects in the
encyclopedia. Agnes was a great
cook and had a tremendous sense
of humor, she enjoyed
entertaining the kids in song
and dance.
Agnes is survived
by her children, Mary A. Thomas
of Loveland, Colorado, Patricia
A. Humphrey of Le Roy,
Minnesota, Adrian E. Kleckner of
Des Moines, Jane E. Dahley of
Wellington, Colorado, Timothy J.
(Kay) Kleckner of Algona, Thomas

7, 1957 at Spring Grove,
Minnesota. They made their home
in the Osage area, where they
farmed. Jere enjoyed spending
summers during his retirement at
"The Point" at Lake City,
Minnesota.
Jere is survived
by two daughters, Katherine
Ahrens and husband, Curt Robbins
of Wayzata, Minnesota and Mary
Wittenburg and husband, Clark of
Osage; one son, Jere "Bill"
Ahrens, Jr. and wife, Becky and

Robert Francis
Wagner, was born on September
24, 1923 in Riceville, on the
family farm to Stephen and Ellen
Fox Wagner. He was united in
marriage to Eugenia Klaes on
November 17, 1945, at the St.
Peter's Catholic Church in New
Haven, Iowa.
Robert was a member of the
Immaculate Conception Catholic
Church in Riceville, he was an
Eucharistic Minister and a
member of the Knights of
Columbus. He farmed until
September of 1980, was a school
bus driver and he worked at
Lenth Feed until his retirement.
Survivors include
his wife of 60 years, Eugenia of
Riceville; two sons, Alan of
Fennimore, Wisconsin and Darrell
and his wife, Joyce of Council
Bluffs; one daughter, Janice and
her husband, Eldon Scott of
Forest City; eight
grandchildren; six
great-grandchildren; one

Mary Gina
Hungerford, was born on
September 12, 1962 in Osage, the
daughter of Charles and Neva
(Fuhrman) Hungerford. She
graduated early from the Osage
High School with the class of
1980 and went to nursing school
in Rochester, Minnesota. In
October of 1980, she enlisted in
the U.S. Air Force and retired
as a Technical Sergeant in
December of 1996. Mary loved
people, working with flowers and
paint decorating.
Mary is survived
by her son, Shane Mackelprang
who is in the U.S. Marine Corps;
her daughter, Samantha
Mackelprang at home; her mother,
Neva Hungerford of Osage; her
sister, Ann Kienzle of
Riceville; three brothers, Tim
(Lisa) Hungerford of Burlington,
Mark (Cyndi) Hungerford of
Gladstone, Illinois and Todd
(Tina) Hungerford of Sierra
Vista, Arizona; two nieces,
Jennifer Hungerford and Nikki
(James) Schulte; and two
nephews, Jared and Gavin
Hungerford.
She was preceded
in death by her father, Charles

Village, Clear Lake, Iowa,
passed away on Sunday, March 19,
2006, at his home, Oak Hill, at
the Village.
Funeral services were held at
the Village Center, Clear Lake,
on Wednesday, March 22, with
Pastor Barbara Schunke
officiating. Burial was in the
Osage Cemetery, Osage. Memorials
may be directed to Opportunity
Village or to the Hospice of
North Iowa.
Arthur was born
on September 29, 1941 in
Phillips, Wisconsin, the son of
Dorothy and Eivind
Christoffersen. In 1948, he
moved to Bethphage Mission,
Axtell, Nebraska and in 1981
moved to Opportunity Village.
Arthur was confirmed in the
Christian faith at Bethphage
Mission where he served as a
chapel usher. At Opportunity
Village he was a member of the
Zion Lutheran Church and the
Lions Club.
Some of his favorite activities
were his vocational tasks,
working at the Village Store and
doing the mail run. He was a
member of the "Village
Connection" and enjoyed the
opportunity to perform with that
group. He loved to go to Perkins
for a hamburger, french fries
and a diet coke. He especially
enjoyed close relationships with
many of the staff members and
always looked forward to
vacation and holiday visits with
his sister and brother-in-law at
their rural St. Ansgar home.
He was preceded
in death by his parents;
grandparents; brothers-in-law,
Ernie Kutzik and Don O'Brien;
and all of his aunts and uncles.
He is survived by
sisters, Miriam Kutzik of St.
Paul, Carol and husband, Paul
Anderson of St. Ansgar and Ruth
O'Brien of Sandstone, Minnesota;
brothers, Carl Christoffersen
and wife, Doris of Horseshoe
Bay, Texas, John Christoffersen

Marvin Edward Arp

Marvin Edward
Arp, 65, formerly of Plymouth,
died on Thursday, March 23,
2006, at the Muse-Norris Hospice
Inpatient Unit, Mason City.
Memorial services were held on
Monday, March 27, at the
Plymouth United Methodist
Church, with Reverend Wendy
Johannesen officiating.
Inurnment will be at a later
date. The Hogan Bremer Moore
Colonial Chapel was in charge of
the cremation. Memorials may be
directed to the Hospice of North
Iowa.
Marvin Edward
Arp, was born on September 24,
1940 in Osage, the son of Edward
and Hazel (Frank) Arp. He, his
father and uncles farmed on the
Arp Brothers Farm in the Little
Cedar area. Marvin was united in
marriage to Jeanne Navratil in
1963 and to this union two
children were born.
Marvin loved farming, his John
Deere tractors, fishing,
hunting, snowmobiling, playing
cards (indicating and talking
under the table), pets, raising
his family and the outdoor
BBQ's. His greatest love was
spending time with his family
and friends. He will be greatly
missed for his soft and generous
heart, sparkling blue eyes and
mischievous grin.
He is survived by
his children, Angie (Tony)
Furbush of Rockwell and John
(Michelle) Arp of Mason City;
grandchildren, Joshua, Tyler,
McKenna and Cole;
great-grandchild, Jaris
Benjamin; two brothers; and two
sisters; along with many nieces,
nephews, family and friends.
Marvin was
preceded in death by his
parents, Edward and Hazel Arp;
sister and brother-in-law,
Patricia and Dean "Buck" Rowson;
and two brothers.
Funeral

Chapel.

Charles Wentworth
Carter, 88, of Osage, departed
this life on Friday, March 24,
2006, at the Osage
Rehabilitation and Health Care
Center in Osage.
Memorial services were held on
Monday, March 27, at the First
United Methodist Church in
Osage, with Rev. Dr. J. Samuel
Subramanian officiating.
Inurnment was in the Osage
Cemetery.
"Went" was born
on April 21, 1917 in Hampton,
the son of Walter A. and Lura
(Wentworth) Carter. He graduated
from the Mason City High School
in 1936 and then attended trade
school where he studied
electronics. On August 3, 1943,
he married Merle Williams at the
First United Methodist Church in
Osage. To this union two sons
were born, William Wentworth and
Bradford Charles.
"Went" owned and operated
"Carter's Radio and TV" in Osage
for about 40 years. He was
active in the Osage Rotary Club
and the Osage Development
Corporation. His hobbies and
interests were many and included
woodworking, piloting a small
aircraft, pottery, singing in
the church choir, target
shooting and spelunking. He
enjoyed a good debate on almost
any topic and was ready to take
on anyone who was willing.
"Went" was a member of the Osage
Masonic Lodge and the First
United Methodist Church, where
he served on the church board.
"Went" is
survived by his wife, Merle of
Osage; two sons, Bill and his
wife, Joy Carter of Wilton, Iowa
and Brad and his wife, Gail
Carter of Waterloo;
grandchildren, Carolyn and Alex
Carter; step-grandchildren, Eric
and Beth Brodahl; and many
friends.
He was preceded
in death by his parents;
brother, Richard and wife,
Lydia; his sister, Elizabeth
Johnson and her husband,
Laverne.
"Went" was a good
husband, father, grandfather and
friend and will be missed by all
who knew him.

Eileen Theresa
Fox, age 83, of Mason City, died
on Wednesday, March 29, 2006, at
the Mercy Medical Center-North
Iowa in Mason City.
A Mass of Christian Burial was
held on Monday, April 3, at the
St. Peter's Catholic Church in
New Haven, with Rev. Ray E.
Atwood officiating. Burial was
in the St. Peter's Catholic
Cemetery in New Haven.
Eileen was born
on December 2, 1922 at New
Haven, the daughter of Herbert
and Marie (Carroll) Fox. She
attended the St. Mary's Academy
in New Haven and graduated from
the Osage High School in 1940
with a normal training
certificate. She taught for 7
years in the rural schools of
Mitchell County. Eileen moved to
Des Moines to teach in the
public school system and during
that time she earned her B.A.
Degree and her Masters Degree in
Education at Drake University.
She retired after teaching for
32 years.
Eileen was active all her life
and enjoyed going on bus trips
with friends, card playing, the
Des Moines Symphony and summer
Band Concerts on the west lawn
of the State Capitol. Eileen was
a cancer survivor since 1963.
She is survived
by a sister, Charlotte Pitzen of
Stacyville; and nephews, Gary,
Joe, Don, David and his wife,
Verla and their sons, Mike and
Bill.
She was preceded
in death by her parents, Herbert
and Marie Fox; and a brother,
Peter Fox.
Funeral
arrangements were made by the
Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home,
Osage.
