Eva Hanson

Eva Hanson, 90, of Osage, died
on Tuesday, November 4, 2003, at
the Faith Lutheran Home in
Osage.
A private family
memorial service will be held.
Her body was cremated.
Eva Hanson, was
born on December 29, 1912 in
Missouri, the daughter of Joe
and Anna (Fritz) Grossmeyer. Eva
was united in marriage to Orvid
Hanson on March 16, 1936. They
were lifelong farmers in the
Ringsted area, until their
retirement, when they moved to
Fairmont, Minnesota. After the
death of her husband Eva went to
work at the Stokley Canning
Company until her retirement.
She then moved to Osage to be
close to her family.
Eva was an avid
card player, who enjoyed playing
"500" with her grandchildren and
spending time with her family.
While at the nursing home she
enjoyed playing bingo and their
horse races.
Eva was preceded
in death by her parents;
husband; one son; one grandson;
and two sisters.
She is survived
by one son, Raymond Hanson and
his wife, Roberta of Osage;
three grandchildren, Raymond
Hanson, Jr. and his wife, Donna
of Little Cedar, Penny Counsell
and her husband, Michael of
Osage and Joe Hanson of Osage;
six great-grandchildren; two
great-great-grandchildren; and
one sister, Ann Grossmeyer of
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Alfred Pitzen
November 12, 2003
Alfred Pitzen, 94, of
Stacyville, died on Thursday,
November 6, 2003, at the
Mitchell County Regional Health
Center, Osage.
Funeral services
were held on Tuesday, November
11, at 10:30 a.m., at the
Visitation Catholic Church,
Stacyville, with Rev. Mark
Reasoner officiating. Burial was
in the Visitation Cemetery,
Stacyville.
Alfred was born
on August 30, 1909, to Fred and
Christina (Smith) Pitzen. His
marriage of 67 years to Mary
Reding began on September 2,
1936, at the Visitation Catholic
Church, Stacyville. Alfred
farmed his entire life, retiring
to Stacyville in 1978. He always
had an active part in farming,
even after his retirement.
In his retirement
he enjoyed woodworking and
traveling. He also loved
watching his grandchildren in
sports activities. Alfred was
very involved with 4-H, serving
as a leader for many years. The
county fair was a very special
part of his life as well as his
families lives. Alfred was a 75
year member of the Catholic
Order of Foresters, was an Iowa
Holstein member, a Farm Bureau
member, was a board member of
the ASCS and received the
Distinguished Holstein Service
Award.
Alfred is
survived by his wife, Mary of
Stacyville; two sons, Gene
(Jane) Pitzen of Stacyville and
Ronnie (Becky) of Stacyville;
four daughters, Mary Jane (Jim)
Mauer of Lisle, Illinois, Betty
Ann (Marly) Stoltenberg of Mason
City, Iowa, Carol (Vaughn)
Rossum of Osage, Iowa and
Rosalie (Doug) Malo of
Brookings. South Dakota;
daughter-in-law, Vernie Pitzen
of Austin, Minnesota; 25
grandchildren; 26
great-grandchildren; and one
brother, Robert Pitzen of
Stacyville.
He was preceded
in death by his parents; one
son, James; three brothers,
Paul, Lawrence and Bill; four
sisters, Angela May, Gertrude
Hartnell, Millie Pitzen and
Martha Pitzen.

Meta M. Jensen
November 19, 2003
Meta M. Jensen, 97, of Osage,
died on Monday, November 10,
2003, at the Mitchell County
Regional Health Center in Osage.
Funeral services
were held at 1:30 p.m., on
Thursday, November 13, at the
Our Savior's Lutheran Church in
Osage, with Rev. Dennis Hanson
officiating. Interment was in
the Osage Cemetery.
Meta was born on
September 19, 1906 in Floyd
County, near Colwell, the
daughter of Frank and Tina
(Kohlman) Tjaden. She was united
in marriage to Reimar C. Jensen
on February 14, 1935. They
farmed north of Charles City
until 1945, when they purchased
a farm southwest of Osage. They
lived there until moving to
Osage in 1981. Reimar died in
1993.
She lived in her
own home until October of 2002.
She then lived at the Faith
Lutheran Home in Osage. She
worked at the Charles City
Country Club and at various
restaurants in Charles City. She
was a member of Our Savior's
Lutheran Church.
She was preceded
in death by her husband, Reimar
Jensen; her parents; one sister;
and five brothers.
She is survived
by one sister-in-law, Marian
Tjaden of Charles City; one
brother-in-law, Sidney Jensen of
Elveto, California; and many
nieces and nephews.
The

Helen Marie (Curin) Mostek
Winterton
November 26, 2003
Helen Marie Curin Mostek
Winterton, age 95, of Fulton,
Illinois and formerly of
Mitchell and Osage, died on
Wednesday, November 19, 2003, at
the Harbor Crest Nursing Home in
Fulton, Illinois.
Funeral services
were held on Saturday, November
22, at the St. Ansgar Catholic
Church in St. Ansgar, with Rev.
Mark Reasoner officiating.
Interment was in the Oak Grove
Cemetery in Mitchell.
Helen was born on
March 27, 1908 in Mason City,
Iowa, to Joseph and Barbara
(Lukas) Curin. She was reared in
Haugen, Wisconsin, Merrillan,
Wisconsin and Mason City, Iowa.
She married Metthodeouse (Matt)
George Mostek on January 30,
1926 in Mason City. He died on
November 21, 1939. She lived in
Mitchell, Iowa from 1926 to
1955. She married Alvie Bernie
Winterton in 1943. He died on
November 14, 1990. She worked in
the onion and cabbage fields
from 1926 to 1955, then at the
Farmer's Produce in Osage from
1955 to 1969 when she retired
and moved to Clinton, Iowa to
live with her daughter, Sandra
Goodell.
From 1970 to
1986, she lived in Camanche,
Iowa with Sandra and her
husband, Morrie Goodell. In
1986, she moved with them to
Fulton, Illinois. From November
5, 2001 until her death, she
resided at the Harbor Crest
Nursing Home in Fulton.
She was a
lifelong member of the Catholic
church. She belonged to the
Camanche Senior Citizens,
Fulton, Illinois Over Fifty
Club, canasta and Catholic card
clubs. She enjoyed crocheting,
and making many bedspreads for
her children and grandchildren.
She was preceded
in death by her husbands,
Metthodeouse (Matt) George
Mostek and Alvie Bernie
Winterton; one daughter, Leona
Larson; one son, Leonard (Bud)
Mostek; three sisters, Rosie
Smith, Mary Leraaen and Lucy
Cullen; and one brother, Frank
Curin.
She is survived
by one daughter, Sandra Goodell
and husband, Morrie Goodell of
Fulton, Illinois; one
daughter-in-law, Dorothy Beyer
of Mitchell; 10 grandchildren;
23 great-grandchildren; three
great-great-grandchildren; and
nieces and nephews.
The

James H. Kurtz
December 3, 2003
James H. Kurtz, 86, of Pomona,
Missouri, died on Saturday,
November 29, 2003, at the St.
John's Regional Health Center,
Springfield, Missouri.
Funeral services
were held on Tuesday, December
2, at the St. Joseph's Catholic
Church, White Church, Missouri,
with Father Sherman Wall
officiating. Interment was in
the St. Joseph's Cemetery.

Church.
James Kurtz, was
born on August 5, 1917 at
Hampton, Iowa, the son of the
late Anthony and Hulda Stephens
Kurtz. On August 17, 1942, Kurtz
was married at Osage, Iowa to
Avis Erbe. He was of the
Catholic faith with his
membership in the St. Joseph's
Catholic Church, White Church,
Missouri.
His survivors
include his wife, Avis of the
family home; a son, Ian Kurtz
and wife, Camille of Ozark,
Missouri; three grandchildren,
Eric Kurtz and wife, Sherry,
Heather Kurtz and Jamie Kurtz;
two great-grandchildren,
Brittany Kurtz and Brianna
Kurtz; one brother, Wendell
Kurtz of Washington DC; one
sister, Marilyn Foreman of
Minneapolis, Minnesota; and
several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded
in death by his parents; one
sister; and three brothers.
Funeral
arrangements were in charge of
the Robertson-Drago Funeral
Home, West Plains, Missouri.

Duane Dean Bublitz

Duane Dean Bublitz, 67, of St.
Ansgar, died on Sunday, November
30, 2003, at the Good Samaritan
Center, St. Ansgar.
Funeral services
were held on Tuesday, December
2, at the Immanuel Lutheran
Church, St. Ansgar, with Rev.
Byron Northwick officiating.
Burial was in the Immanuel
Lutheran Cemetery, St. Ansgar.
Duane Dean
Bublitz, was born on November 2,
1936 in Newburg Township,
Mitchell County, son of Arnold
and Wilma (Lange) Bublitz. He
was baptized and confirmed at
the Immanuel Lutheran Church,
St. Ansgar. He worked as a
mechanic for John Deere in
Lawler and Corydon, Iowa, before
starting his own business.
He is survived by
his son, Dennis Oakland and
wife, Heather of Northwood;
daughter, Deborah Anderson of
Mankato, Minnesota;
father, Arnold Bublitz of the
Good Samaritan Center, St.
Ansgar; brother, Robert Bublitz
and wife, Pat of St. Ansgar;
sisters, Shirley Sheets and
husband, Curtis of Iowa City and
Delores Trettin and husband,
Richard of St. Ansgar; aunt,
Eleanor Boerjan of St. Ansgar;
and nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded
in death by his mother, Wilma
Bublitz; and nephew, Curtis
Bublitz.

Meta (Martinson) Weber
December 3, 2003
Meta Jean (Martinson) Weber, age
40, died on Sunday, November 30,
2003, at her home in Osage.
Funeral services
were held on Tuesday, December
2, at the Our Savior's Lutheran
Church in Osage, with Rev.
Dennis Hanson, Rev. Roy Ott and
Rev. Robert Melhorn officiating.
Interment was in the Osage
Cemetery.
Meta was born on
January 8, 1963 in Osage, the
daughter of Alan and Shirley (Ingebritson)
Martinson. She graduated from
the Osage High School in 1981.
Meta married Darrell Weber on
June 27, 1981 in Osage. To this
union two sons were born,
Nicholas and Jeffrey. Meta
received her nurses training
from NIACC graduating in 1991.
She was employed as an LPN at
the Floyd County Memorial
Hospital in Charles City,
Mitchell County Regional Health
Center in Osage and she loved
caring for the elderly at the
Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.
Meta was a member
of the Our Savior's Lutheran
Church and Our Savior's Bell
Choir, MCRHC-Hospital Auxiliary
and the Osage Fire Department
Auxiliary. Meta was a volunteer
at the Crisis Intervention
Center of North Iowa. She
enjoyed crocheting, quilting,
camping and playing the piano.
Meta's family was very important
to her, she loved being a mother
and following the activities
that her children were involved
in.
Meta was preceded
in death by her father, Alan
Martinson; her grandparents,
Herman and Alice Ingebritson and
Oscar and Sarah Martinson; and
numerous aunts, uncles and
cousins.
She is survived
by her two sons, Nick Weber and
Jeff Weber of Osage; and their
father, Darrell Weber of Osage;
her mother, Shirley Martinson of
Osage; three sisters, Christine
(Dino) Straate and their
children, Ben, Laura and Carl of
Elm Grove, Wisconsin; Cathy
(Brad) Woodiwiss and their
children, Katie, Julia and
Lindsey of Lone Tree; and Monica
Martinson and her children,
Andrea, Joshua, Dakota and
Dustin of Osage; one brother,
Paul (Chastity) Martinson and
their children, Alan, Eric and
Luke of Rochester, Minnesota;
numerous aunts, uncles and
cousins; and a special friend,
Wesley Boman of Forest City.
