Alexander PotratzAlexander Potratz, age 17 of Ionia, died Tuesday morning, Sept. 10, 2013, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn., from injuries sustained in an auto accident.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 16, 2013 at St. John Lutheran Church, 200 S. Main Street, Charles City with Pastor Dennis Niezwaag presiding. Andrea DeVore will be the organist with Amy and Mary Catherine McDonough and James DeBerg as vocalists.

Interment will be in St. Boniface Cemetery, Ionia with Jack McDonough, Hunter Mueller, Ryan Donlan, Ramsey Bark, Isaac Masters, Seth Harrington, Austin Deutsch, Tryston Crook and Jacob Scribner as casketbearers. Honorary casketbearers are Cade Demro, Jacob Glaser, Shane Usher, Cole Berger, The Nashua Plainfield Freshman, Sophomore and Junior Football teammates.

Friends may greet the family 2 - 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013, at the Nashua-Plainfield High School Gymnasium. Visitation continues an hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.

Alexander Ray Potratz was born June 5, 1996, in Waterloo; the son of Kevin and Diane (Sorenson) Potratz. Alex went to Nashua Elementary School and was a senior at Nashua-Plainfield High School. He attended Republic United Church of Christ in rural Ionia and was confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Charles City.

Alex loved to listen to music, especially classic rock. As a child, he loved being outdoors and helping his mom and dad in the garden. Alex loved playing with his dogs, Sadie and Dilly. He was currently building a gun case and enjoyed target practice. He was fond of riding bikes; playing X-Box; fishing; riding the lawn mower; he enjoyed watching his older brother play rugby; participating in mission trips through St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church; lifting weights; and being a center on the Nashua-Plainfield Football Team. Alex was very patriotic and loved his country. He helped with many fundraisers for the Ionia Fire Department where the crew enjoyed his enthusiasm.

Alex’s family and friends were very important to him. He had many good times with his friends Cade Demro, Jacob Glaser, Shane Usher and his cousin, Jack McDonough. Alex treasured the time he spent with his grandparents and especially enjoyed World War II stories from Grandpa Ray. He had a very close relationship with his mom and dad and cherished their time together. Alex was so dearly loved by his step-father, Derek Day, and was so proud of the wonderful example he set for Alex and the community.

Alex had a strong, Christian faith and will be overjoyed to spend eternity with all his family that have gone before him.

Survivors include his mother, Diane (Derek) Day of Ionia; his father, Kevin Potratz of Nashua; one brother, Andy Potratz of Ankeny; ten aunts, Mary Adkins of Cedar Rapids, Judy (Chuck) Smith of Oelwein, Linda (Marv) Folstad of Hesper, June Wood of Waukee, Angie (Randy) Dieken, Carrie (Alan) DeBerg all of Dike, Terri (Wes) Wadey of Nashua, Kathy Day-Bobb of Sunnyvale, Calif., Michelle (Steve) Bartling of Ackley and Jill Tidman of Bondurant; two uncles, Mark (Bonnie) Potratz of Nashua and Jon (Angie) Day of Charles City; many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Ray and Betty Sorenson and paternal grandparents, Milton and Evelyn Potratz; and his dogs, Sadie, Lucky, Ranger and Bo.


HELEN M. HULTS

Helen M. Hults age 92 of Nashua, died Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.



Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013, at the United Methodist Church, Nashua with Pastor Okitakoyi Lundula presiding.

Interment will be held in Beckwith Cemetery, Rural Colwell, with Gary Olson, Matt Hults, David Carter, Leroy Kellner, and Ron Litterer serving as pallbearers.

Friends may greet the family 4 – 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013, at Hugeback Johnson Funeral Home - Olson Chapel in Nashua. Visitation continues 9:30  – 10:30 a.m. prior to service at the church. Helen Marie Hults was born June 8, 1921, in Bradford, the only daughter of Harvey and Kathyrne (Nicholson) Vanston. When Helen was five years old, her mother passed away and she was raised by her father and Grandma Nicholson, who lived next door. Helen attended school in Nashua, and was a 1938 graduate of the Nashua High School. After graduation, she took the exam to become a teacher. Helen was awarded a teaching certificate, and taught in rural country schools from 1938 – 1944.

Helen grew up two houses away from Iven Hults. The two became a couple after Iven returned from World War II. They were married on April 15, 1945, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. To this union, three children were born, Dan, David and Kathy. Helen spent time at home while the children were growing up. When they were older she started working for the Nashua Community School District, driving school buses. She retired from the Nashua Community School District in 1988, after driving for 23 years. She also spent ten years working in the office for Nashua Plumbing and Heating.

Helen was very active in the community with many organizations. She was a VFW Ladies Auxiliary Golden Member, an active member at the United Methodist Church and various other church clubs. She was also active in both boy scouts and girl scouts, where she served as a den mother and brownie leader.

Over the years she knitted many afghans and was especially busy sewing for her family with her Singer sewing machine. She was very fond of red cardinals and her favorite color was green. Helen was an amazing cook, and was always baking her special homemade bread.

Left to cherish Helen’s memory are two sons, Dan (Peggy) Hults of Ottumwa, and David (Marilyn) Hults of Murrysville, Pa; one daughter, Kathy Hults of Nashua; five grandchildren, Jennifer (Matt) Crow, Matthew (Lynn) Hults, Shawn Hults, Sara Bass, and Amanda (John) Todd; six great-grandchildren, Benjamin Crow, Andrew Crow, Alyssa Bass, Ella Hults, Grace Hults, and Jaylen Todd.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Iven.

Betty J. Niewoehner age 78 of Fredericksburg, died Saturday Sept. 14, 2013 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo.

Darlyne "Dolly" Bartz, 85, of Piqua, died at 10:33 pm Friday Sept. 13, 2013 at the Upper Valley Medical Center.

She was born June 30, 1928 in Charles City, to the late Curte and Amanda Weber. She married William E. Bartz April 6, 1947, in Charles City; and he survives.

Other survivors include a sister Sharon Manship of Houston, Texas; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Thomas K. Bartz.

Mrs. Bartz was a graduate of Charles City High School and had worked for a doctors office for many years. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and Piqua Country Club. She enjoyed golfing and being with friends.

Wilma C. Beck was born Sept. 20, 1923, in Charles City, the only child of William and Clausine (Schroeder) Ebding. She attended country school in Riverton Township 3 in Floyd County. Wilma was a graduate from Charles City High School in 1941. Wilma went on to receive additional education at the Iowa State Teachers College, where she completed her normal training, and earned a teaching certificate. Upon her completion, she taught in the rural country schools in Riverton Township.

During this time while attending a party, she was introduced by mutual friends to Johnnie Beck. They were married on Nov. 7, 1943 at the United Church of Christ- Pleasant Hill. To this union four children were born Myrna, Jeanne, Robert, and Charles. Wilma subsequently took a position teaching for the Nashua Community School District. She then taught in Plainfield and while teaching there, she went on to earn her B.S. degree from Wartburg College in 1968. Wilma retired in 1985 but was so fond of the profession; she worked as a substitute teacher for another nine years.

Wilma was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church in Nashua. She served on the Church Council, Ruth (Martha) Circle, along with serving on several committees and taught Sunday school for 26 years. Wilma and Johnnie were in a neighborhood 500-card club, actively participating for over 50 years. Wilma really enjoyed being in the former rural teachers club, where she would meet with former rural school teachers to socialize.

She loved craftwork, reading, along with making and sending homemade cards. She will be remembered as being an amazing cook. Wilma always cherished time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Left to cherish Wilma’s memory are two daughters, Myrna (Donald) Greene of Sun Lakes, Ariz, Jeanne (Gary) Olson of Nashua; son, Robert (Joyce) Beck of Nashua; daughter-in-law, Kathy Beck of Zumbrota, Minn; seven grandchildren, Michelle (Joe) Gribben, their children Amanda and Matthew of Eden Prairie, Minn., Eric (Kim) Olson, their children Kallie, Kacey, and Lydia of New Hampton, Brad (Andie) Olson, their children Drew and Rylie of Osage, Jason Beck of Pine Island, Minn., Douglas (Megan) Beck, their children Melanie, Nathan, and Erin of Goodhue, Minn., Michael Beck, his children Gabriel, Joseph, and Tyler of Zumbrota, Minn., and Travis Beck of Forest City.

She was preceded in death by her parents, loving husband, Johnnie (2002), and son Charles (2009)


TIMOTHY P. BENNETT
February 25, 1953 - August 30, 2013

Timothy P. Bennett age 60 formerly of Nashua, passed away Friday, Aug. 30, 2013, in Sun City, Calif., succumbing to cancer after a nine-month illness.

Tim was born in Waverly, Iowa to Richard J. Bennett Jr. and Helene Bennett on February 25, 1953. He grew up in Nashua, where he attended school and where he graduated in 1971. Tim then attended vocational school in Waterloo where he trained for architectural drafting and went to work at an architectural firm in Waterloo, Iowa. He later worked for building contractor before moving to Denver, Colorado in 1991 where he worked for a building supply company.

The last thirteen years of his life were spent in Southern California as a maintenance manager for two large apartment complexes. Tim has been remembered fondly and with great admiration by the many tenants that he helped with their maintenance needs and also by his co-workers. He was known for his quiet and kind demeanor and gentle approach when helping others.

Surviving Tim are his father Richard Bennett Jr. and step mother Merle Bennett of Nashua, his sister Connie Halter and spouse Ted Halter of Mankato, Minnesota, and his step brothers Lynn Doyle of Cedar Falls,  Larry Doyle and spouse Jan Doyle of Pine City, Minnesota, and step sister, Lorene Hirsch of Nashua.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Helene Bennett and his brother, John Bennett.


Roberta White Strickland, 67, died Monday, September 16th in Montgomery, Alabama with her family by her side.   A graveside memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 23, 2013 at the White family plot in the Riverside cemetery in Riceville, Iowa.  Following the service, refreshments will be served at the Pub On The Pinicon restaurant in New Hampton.  Condolences may be directed to Robert’s family at www.conway-markhamfh.com.

Roberta graduated from New Hampton High School in 1964 and later graduated from Upper Iowa College with a major in business and a minor in political science in 1968.  She was exceptionally proud of her membership in Girl Scout Troop 323, which, with

strong support from the community, was able to raise funds enabling the Troop to tour Europe in the summer of 1963. 

Following college, she travelled to Germany and married her high-school sweetheart, Jonathan (Jon) Strickland and after a brief time in Des Moines, Iowa moved to Alabama where she was employed by the Alabama Department of Industrial Relations from 1977-2008, retiring as Assistant Unemployment Compensation Director – Tax. 

She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law Tom and Deb White; her husband, Jon; Son, Nathan; Daughter-In-Law, Melissa; and two wonderful grandchildren, Jonathan Steven and Luke Tyler.   She was a devoted mother, grandmother, friend and life partner.  As the bard says, “the world is a little sadder place without her.”

Roberta was preceded in death by her Mother, Ione Ruth “Gager” White who died in 1999 and her Father, Robert (Bob) Allen White who died in 2009.

GORDON STORLIE
April 14, 1946 - September 21, 2013

Gordon Storlie, age 67, of New Hampton, passed away Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton.

Funeral services for Gordon Storlie will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013 at the Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home in Cresco, with Pastor Linda Prestholt officiating. Burial will be 11 a.m.. Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2013 at Saetersdal Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home in Cresco.

Gordon D. Storlie was born April 14, 1946 to Irving and Roby (Comstock) Storlie near Cherry Grove, Fillmore County, Minnesota. He graduated from Harmony High School and attended vocational college in Austin, Minnesota for one year. Gordon was married to Martha Retterath and later divorced, and he also married Marsha Lubben-Storlie.

Trucking around the United States and traveling the back roads, stopping at many remote places, was Gordon’s passion. He was currently employed by Featherlite delivering trailers throughout the United States. Playing pool was a favorite activity of Gordon’s, being a member of the Borderline Pool League for almost 40 years. Many people knew Gordon as a talker. He could have a lengthy conversation with anyone, no matter if you were a stranger or a friend. Gordon also enjoyed old country music, playing cards, going to casinos, fishing, family reunions, and old cars, especially Volkswagons.

Gordon is survived by his special friend, Sharon Carpenter of New Hampton, children; Vickie Storlie of Mason City, Wanda (Phil) Mueller of Clarksville, Rick (Maria Pfiffner) Storlie of Waterloo, Lucas Storlie, Rachel Storlie, Cassie Storlie, Landon Storlie, and stepson Jordan Lubben all of New Hampton, grandchildren; Nolan Storlie, Tiffany Krahenbuhl, Megan Krahenbuhl, Calub Storlie, Courtney Storlie, DesiRay Storlie, and step grandson Hunter Lubben, brothers, Roger (Ann) Storlie of Wykoff, Minn. and Larry (Lyn) Storlie of Caledonia, Minn., and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents Irving and Roby and brother, Darrell Storlie.

ETHEL “Mae” (Luck) MILLIGAN

Ethel “Mae” (Luck) Milligan of Waterloo, died Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013, at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center, in Waterloo.

Ethel Mae Luck was born on Aug. 16, 1922, in Butler County near Plainfield, the daughter of G.B. and Ethel (Blunt) Luck.  She attended country school near her home.  On Dec. 6, 1940, she was united in marriage to Harold Keith Milligan in Plainfield. Following their marriage, she received her high school diploma.  Mae and Harold made their home in Waterloo, and during World War II, Mae worked for Chamberlain Mfg.  The couple lived in the Clarksville, Shell Rock and Janesville area while their children were in school.  They moved back to Waterloo in 1967.  From 1969 to 1977, Mae worked as a custodian for the University Of Northern Iowa.  Following Harold’s death on July 9, 1995, she continued living in Waterloo until October 1996, when she moved to Nashua and later moved to Independence. 

Mae was a member of Horton Baptist Church; attending services was special to her.  She enjoyed singing and listening to country music.  She loved kids, and especially spending time with her grand and great grandchildren.  Mae was also a very social people person. 

Mae is survived by one daughter, Peggy Ann Stevenson of Independence; one son, David H. Milligan of Waterloo; five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; and two sisters, Charity Gunderson and Donna (Bob) Westerfelt. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers, Clarence, Jack, Tracy and Ralph Milligan; and five sisters, Francis Strauser, Neoma Barna, Edna Strauser, Mabel Cagley and Keitha in infancy; and one great-great grandson, Dylan.


Inez Mae Franke died Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013, at the Liebe Care Center in Greene.

Funeral services for Inez Mae Marzen, 96, of Greene, will be 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2013, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Greene with Rev. Msgr. Walter Brunkan officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Greene.

Visitation will be from 11 to 1 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2013, at Reid’s Funeral Chapel, 519 N. First St., Greene and will continue at the church until the time of service.

Inez Mae Franke was born on July 24, 1917,in rural Floyd County, the daughter of Lou Herman and Jessie Adeline (Meek) Franke and died Sunday, September 22, 2013, at the Liebe Care Center in Greene. She received her education in District 6 Pleasant Grove School.

She was united in marriage to J. Edwin Marzen on February 14, 1939. This union was blessed with eight children. They made their home on the family farm until 1985 when she moved into Greene.

Inez was a faithful member of St. Mary Catholic Church and was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America. She was known for being a wonderful cook. Inez enjoyed visiting with family and friends and was an avid card player.

Living family members include her children: Pat Kilby, Nashua; Sue (Gene) Smid, Merrill; Dixie (Jerry) Johnson, Gaylord, MN; Darlys (Garry) Krull, Greene; Mike (Elaine) Marzen, Marble Rock; Audrey (Gary) Smith, Greene; Jerome (Cathy) Marzen, Springfield, MO; John (Sherry) Marzen, Marble Rock; 28 grandchildren; 59 great -grandchildren; 15 great great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Inez was preceded in death by her husband, J. Edwin; her parents; 2 brothers: Ray Franke and Robert Franke; son-in-law, Ron Kilby; great-grandson, Zack Marzen.

STANLEY MERLE “Bud” KNUTSON

Stanley Merle “Bud” Knutson, age 88, of New Hampton, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013 at Jerico Lutheran Church with Pastor Daniel Larsen officiating. Burial will follow at the Jerico Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 27, 2013 at Conway-Markham Funeral Home in New Hampton and will continue at the church one hour prior to the services on Saturday. Stanley Merle Knutson was born January 14, 1925 in Chickasaw County, the son of Theodore and Tina (Nelson) Knutson. He was baptized and confirmed at Jerico Lutheran Church and was a lifetime member. He attended rural schools in Chickasaw County and farmed his entire life on the family farm north of New Hampton. Stanley was united in marriage to LaVonne Bernice Phillips on December 14, 1974. LaVonne passed away in 1997.

Stanley is survived by his brother John Knutson of New Hampton; his sister, Donna (Don) Jepson of Appleton, Wisc; his brother-in-law, Godfrey Natvig of Cresco, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; six sisters, Norma (Henry) Munson, Oriette (Clarence) Adams, Theodora Natvig, Lois (John) Davis, Colleen (Thomas) Pollock and Shirley Knutson; and one sister-in-law, Kathy Knutson.


William R. Schult age 91, of Fredericksburg, died Wednesday September 25, 2013, at Community Memorial Hospital in Sumner.

Funeral services were held 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013, at the Peace United Church of Christ, Fredericksburg with Pastor Burt Williams presiding. Carlee Buhman will be the pianist with Holly Schult as violinist and Roger Hucke, vocalist. Yvonne Lienau will also be the organist.

Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Fredericksburg with William's grandsons, Bill Schult, Clint Schult, Lonnie Schult, T.J. Steege, Luke Steege, Todd Hilmer, Mike Hilmer, Andrew Schult, Mick Kane, Chris Kane, Blaine Schult and Jacob Schult serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be his granddaughters, Amber Schult, Carlee Buhman, Lynnette Stecklein, Jodie Schult, Darcy Fair, Allison Anderson, Tracy Elliott, Suzanne Belding, Wendy EL Huessein and Holly Schult. The Lawler American Legion, Harold Redman Post 279 will present full military honors.

William “Bill” Schult was born July 16, 1922, and raised on the family farm near Westgate, Iowa. He was the son of William J. Schult and Emma (Pipho) Schult. He went to country school through the eighth grade and graduated from Maynard High School in 1940. He served in the US Navy during the WWII as a Hospital Apprentice first class. Bill thoroughly enjoyed his Honor Flight to the WWII Memorial two years ago.

Bill met the love of his life, Marjorie Binning, at a dance in Sumner, Iowa. Bill and Marge were married September 27, 1941 in Kahoka, Missouri. They had seven children, Bill, Jack, Mike, Karen, Sharon, Barb and Rick. Bill worked several jobs early in his life including having his own milk hauling business. His ultimate goal was to farm. He and his family farmed several farms in NE Iowa and moved to a farm near Fredericksburg in 1962. In addition to farming, Bill worked as a maintenance welder at John Deere for 24 years. He was recognized many times for his money saving suggestions at John Deere.

Bill retired from farming in 1966 and moved his family into Fredericksburg. He and Marge owned and operated the Schult Café and later Bill’s Pub.

He always put his family first. They were his number one concern. Even though money was short and times were tough, he made sure there was always Christmas gifts under the tree for his kids. Bill especially loved sharing time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. They all looked forward to seeing him, as he would always find ways to make each of them laugh.

Bill enjoyed their trailer and time spent with family and fishing on the Mississippi River in Prairie Du Chen, Wisconsin. Bill loved to garden and he could take anything apart, put it back together again and it would work. He played a great game Euchre and enjoyed golfing with his sons and friends at the Plum Creek Golf Course.

In his later years Bill was devoted to caring for the Love of his life. He was an inspiration to all those who knew him for his commitment to keeping them in their home for as long as he could.

Bill is survived by his wife, Marge, son Bill (Joyce) Schult of Eagan, Minn., son Jack (Marcia) Schult of Fredericksburg, Iowa; Daughter-in-law Linda Schult of Denver; daughter Karen (Ted) Steege of Fredericksburg, daughter Sharon (Bob) Hilmer of Winfield; daughter Barb (Ron) Kane of Fredericksburg, and son Rick (Deb) Schult of Ackley; 22 grandchildren and 46 great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, son Michael Schult and grandsons Brady Schult and Rickey Kane.


Carl E. Wurzer age 93 of Lawler, died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013, at Linn Haven Rehab & Healthcare in New Hampton.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013, at the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Lawler with Rev. Nick March presiding. Bob Huinker will be the organist and vocalist. Interment will be in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Lawler with, Tony Moore, Kelli Van Meter, Amy Mihm, Andy Wurzer, Lance Viers, Staci Kuboushek, Brooke Dungey and Christopher Gitch serving as pallbearers. The Lawler American Legion, Harold Redman Post 279 will present full military honors.

Friends may greet the family 3 - 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 30, 2013, at the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Lawler, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. parish scripture service. Visitation continues an hour prior to the service at the church.

Carl Edmund Wurzer was born Dec. 20, 1919, the son of Konrad and Barbara (Kuennen) Wurzer at their family farm by St. Lucas. He received his education at St. Luke’s Catholic School. After the eighth grade, he began working for local farmers, and in 1945 was called to active duty for the United States Army. Carl spent most of his time in Germany during World War II and was honorable discharged in 1947.

In 1947 Carl returned from Germany, he purchased a farm south of Lawler and continued to farm until 1983. Carl was united in marriage to Lorraine Hageman on June 8, 1948, at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in St. Lucas. He farmed and enjoyed doing carpentry work. Carl was passionate about the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and took pride in his beautiful garden. Carl cherished the time spent with his family, particularly with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is survived by his daughter, Joan (Dan) Moore of Cedar Rapids; son, Duane (JoAnn) Wurzer of Lawler; sister-in-law, Evelyn "Sis" Wurzer of Waucoma; Hans Walter Boetel of Germany, a former foreign exchange student and long time family friend; seven grandchildren, Tony (Danielle) Moore, Kelli (Matt) Van Meter, Amy (Chris) Mihm, Andy (Bethany) Wurzer, Lance (Erika) Viers, Staci (Dan) Kuboushek, Brooke (Bryan) Dungey; 14 great-grandchildren; one brother Francis (Margaret) Wurzer of St. Lucas; six sisters, Sister Theophane Wurzer of Lowell, Michigan; Irma Hageman of Lawler, Rosaria Eink of Festina, Alvina Hemesath Murray of Lawler, Alma Hemesath of Ossian, and Doris (Alvin) Smith of Ft. Atkinson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Carl was proceeded in death by his wife, Lorraine in 1975; his parents, Konrad and Barbara Wurzer; three brothers, Anton, Edwin, and Alvin Wurzer; one sister, Anne Kuennen; eight brothers-in-law, Florain Hageman, Arnold Barloon, Ray Karnik, Roman Kuennen, Ed Hemesath, Charles Hemesath, Jim Murray Sr., Norbert Einck; three sisters-in-law, Marcella, Lorelei, and Carolyn Wurzer.

L. Eugene Nelson, age 83 of Fredericksburg, died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013, at his home.

Memorial services will be held 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, at the United Methodist Church in Fredericksburg with Rev. Mike Christie officiating.

Friends may greet the family one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Seraphia “Sally” Peters, age 89, of New Hampton, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013 at Linn Haven Rehab and Healthcare in New Hampton.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Sally at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 4, 2013 at Holy Family Parish – St. Joseph’s Center in New Hampton with Father Mark Osterhaus celebrating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in New Hampton.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013 at Conway-Markham Funeral Home in New Hampton with a 4:30 p.m. Rosary and a 6:30 p.m. Scriptural Wake Service. Seraphia “Sally” Peters was born on Dec. 19, 1923 in Fayette County, the daughter of Anton and Anne (Reicks) Hackman. She attended St. Luke’s Catholic School in St. Lucas. Sally was united in marriage to Virgil Peters on May 12, 1945 at St. Brigid’s Church in San Diego. The couple returned to New Hampton where they raised their six children; Frank, Allan, Helen, Dean, Pat and Don. In 2008 Sally moved from her home to join the staff and residents at Linn Haven. She enjoyed playing cards and bingo. Sally especially loved spending time with her family. She was a member of Holy Family Parish – St. Joseph’s Center, the Rosary Society and the Red Hat Society.

Sally is survived by her children, Frank Peters, Allan (Cindy) Peters, Helen (Tom) Dockendorf, Pat (Don) Johnson and Don Peters, all of New Hampton; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her siblings, Lillian Haas of Stayton, OR, Vern (Tecla) Hackman of San Diego, Calif., Alfreda (Chuck) Nesteby of Dubuque, Luke Hackman of Waterloo, Lorraine Wilhelms of Scottsdale, Ariz. and Robert (Karen) Hackman of Mason City, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Virgil; her son, Dean and her siblings, Florence, Virgil, Theola, Olivia and Louis.
