Mabel M. Geerts, age 94, of Alta Vista, passed away on Friday, Nov. 1, 2013 at Colonial Manor in Elma.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 4, 2013 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Alta Vista, with Father Steve Garner celebrating. Burial will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Alta Vista following the funeral mass.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 3, 2013 at Conway-Markham Funeral Home in Elma with a 4:30 p.m. rosary and a 6 p.m. Scriptural Wake Service. Visitation will continue at the funeral home one hour prior to the funeral mass on Monday. Online condolences for Mabel’s family may be left at www.conway-markhamfh.com. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Mabel Matilda was born Sept. 16, 1919 on a farm near Regent, ND to Theodore and Margaret (Brehm) Geerts. Mabel had five brothers and two sisters. She always said, “I’m the middle man” as she had two brothers and one sister older and three brothers and one sister younger than her.

Mabel was raised on a farm in North Dakota, then Minnesota before moving with her family to Iowa. Mabel attended country school south of Alta Vista where she completed the eighth grade. After finishing school in 1933, Mabel continued to help on the farm and worked for her brother for nine years, as well as helping out wherever she was needed. Mabel stated with a chuckle, “I always liked to keep busy. If I couldn’t find anything to do, I would take the scythe out and cut weeds.”

Mabel recalls when her folks decided to move to town. There was not a house to rent or buy. So Mabel’s dad had to get busy and build a home. They moved to town on December 20, 1954. Mabel then worked at Weber’s Variety Store until getting called to work at the Alta Vista Bank. She began working at the bank as a bookkeeper June 1, 1956 and later became a bank teller until she retired on June 1, 1983. After retiring from the bank, she worked for the Chickasaw Senior Center for 17 years. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and St. Bernard’s Rosary Society.

Mabel lived with and took care of her parents until they passed away. Mabel recalled taking vacations with her parents to North Dakota. She enjoyed needle working, quilting, mending, crocheting, and watching selective game shows in her leisure time. Her famous words of wisdom, “Don’t depend on others, do it yourself. Pick yourself up and go…Always keep busy.”

Mabel is survived by her brother, Daniel (Coletta) Geerts of New Hampton; his sisters, Ruth Kruth of Evansdale, and Monica Marvin of Alta Vista; sister-in-law, Monica Geerts of New Hampton, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; infant brother; her brothers, Paul, Louis, Andrew, and Elmer; sisters-in-law, Helen Geerts, Katherine Geerts, Joanna Geerts; and brother-in-law, Everest Kruth.

VIRGINIA MAE GLUCKLICH
March 31, 1947 - October 26, 2013
Posted: Monday, November 4, 2013

Virginia (Ginny) Mae (Hauser) Glucklich of Citrus Heights Ca, formerly of Cokato, Minn, entered into eternity with Christ on Oct. 26, 2013 in her home, thus ending her battle with cancer.

She was born Mar. 31, 1947, in Charles City, the daughter of Fred and Eva (Caster) Hauser of Nashua. Ginny grew up in Nashua and attended the Nashua schools from kindergarten through high school graduation on May 25, 1965. She afterwards moved to Chicago to attend Moody Bible Institute and graduated in 1968 with a General Bible diploma (with emphasis in Christian Education).

At Moody, Ginny met a young, Austrian man named Walter (Wally) Glucklich, then from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Two years later they married on July 18, 1969 at the Waverly Baptist Church and prepared and ministered in churches, for the next 44 years.

Ginny was a woman of faith in the reality of Jesus Christ. At age 9, during Vacation Bible School in Nashua, she accepted God’s gift of eternal life (John 3:16-18) by accepting the atoning work of Jesus Christ on the cross.

Ginny was a gentle and loving women who easily touched hearts. Her greatest love was experienced by her three children and later by her eight grandchildren, whose lives were enriched by her grace, insight, tenderness and firmness. Her nurturing care was exemplified in her love for indoor and outdoor plants. Her other love was music. She delighted in singing God’s praises as a soloist, in a Women’s Chorus, Worship Team and church choirs. She was an excellent Sunday School teacher. In addition, she loved to sew, be a creative organizer (especially by using fruit crates), cook, bake and invent fun crafts from simple materials. In writing, she had a wonderful way of blending the practical, technical, intuitive and spiritual to encourage the recipient’s heart. But the greatest impact came in the way she touched the lives of people, young and old. Everyone she encountered felt her genuine loving interest that they were important to her.

A celebration of her life was expressed in two memorial services, the first on Nov. 2, 2013 at 11 a.m. at First Covenant Church in Oakland, Ca. and the second at Elim Mission Church in Cokato, Minn. on Nov. 9, 2013 at 11 a.m.. Visitation is before and after the services.

Ginny was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Eva Hauser. Ginny is survived by her husband, Walter, of 44 years, her three children: Nate (Jennifer) Glucklich and their children: Elizabeth, Lilly and Justin of Santa Rosa, Ca., Sam (Miriam) and their children: Megan, Molly, Gideon, Natalie, and Gracie of Janesville, Ca. and Tina of Citrus Heights, Ca.. Ginny is also survived by her two sisters, Mary Jane Linton of Hartville, Ohio and Jean (David) Drayer of Capistrano Beach, Ca., as well as by many cousins, nephews, nieces, uncles and aunts.
