SHERYL A KEENAN

Sheryl A. KeenanSheryl A. Keenan, age 57 of Fredericksburg, passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at Cedar Valley Hospice in Waterloo.

A celebration of life for Sherrie will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at the Hinkel Home in Urbandale. Online condolences may be left for Sherrie’s family at www.conway-markhamfh.com.  Memorials may be directed to Sherrie’s family.

Sheryl Ann McAllister was born on March 15, 1956 to John and Mary Ann (Genie) McAllister in St. Louis, MO.  The family moved to Des Moines,  when Sherrie was a young child.  She attended St. Pius X Catholic School and then graduated from Des Moines Dowley High School in 1974.  She was a customer service dispatcher for Xerox in Des Moines.  She was also in medical sales for several years.  Sherrie moved to Fredericksburg with her longtime companion in 2005 where she has lived to the present. 

Sherrie enjoyed sales, collecting knick knacks, paintings and antiques.  She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

Sherrie is survived by her son, Paul Kenney of Boca Raton, Fla; her father, John McAllister and her sister, Laura (Thomas) Hinkel, both of Urbandale; her companion of many years, Chris Throndson of Fredericksburg; her niece, Andrea Danilson of Des Moines and her nephew, Aron Butler of Ypsilanti, MI.

She was preceded in death by her mother Mary Ann McAllister.


ELMER LEO O'CONNELL Jr.

Elmer Leo O'Connell Jr. age 79 of Fredericksburg, died Monday afternoon, May 13, 2013, at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 16, 2013, at the Peace United Church of Christ, Fredericksburg with Pastor Burt Williams officiating. Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Fredericksburg with Ronald Schutte, Steve Crowe, Ben Crowe, Nicholas Schutte, Jonathan Schutte, Andy Pett, Tom Milewsky and Dan Milewsky serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Sam Milewsky and Matt Crowe.

Friends greeted the family 4 - 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at the Hugeback - Johnson Funeral Home in Fredericksburg. Visitation continued an hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.

Elmer Leo O’Connell was born July 13, 1933, in Fredericksburg, the son of Elmer Leo and Opal Elisabeth (Grahlman) O’Connell Sr.  He received his education in rural country schools and was a great help to his parents on the farm in his youth.  In May of 1955, while at the former Main-Diner Restaurant, in New Hampton, he met Karen Ruth Kelleher who was working there.  The couple married on November 5, 1955, at The Little Brown Church in Nashua.  To this union five daughters were born.  Elmer and Karen initially farmed northeast of New Hampton until 1963 and then moved to a farm southwest of Fredericksburg where they farmed another 38 years retiring into the town of Fredericksburg in 2005.  Due to his health, Elmer became a resident of the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City in 2005.  

Elmer was a farmer-at-heart, choosing to work on the farm rather than most any other activity.  He did spend some time hunting and fishing, playing cards and watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, but his main interest remained on the farm.  He enjoyed walking in his fields and working the ground, doing everything the hard way.  He also loved any time he was able to spend with his family, especially the grandchildren.  

Survivors include his wife, Karen; five daughters, Pamela (Ronald) Schutte of Fredericksburg, Christine (Steve) Crowe of Lucas, Texas, Carol Pett of Waverly, Barbara O’Connell of Fredericksburg, Elaine (Dan) Milewsky of Watertown, WI; nine grandchildren, Heather (Steve) Fred, Nicholas (Staci) Schutte, Jonathan Schutte, Matthew Crowe, Benjamin Crowe, Andy (Michelle) Pett, Amanda Pett, Samuel Milewsky, Thomas O’Connell Milewsky; two great-grandchildren, Colleen Schutte, Michael Fred.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Keith O’Connell and Kenneth O’Connell; two sisters, Joyce Kinsey and Marilyn Gitch.


VIRGINIA HOY
August 14, 1922 - May 29, 2013

Virginia Hoy age 90 of Nashua died Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at her home. 

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, June 3, 2013, at St. John Lutheran Church, Nashua, with Pastor Alan Schulz officiating. Interment will be in the Cedar View Cemetery, rural Ionia, with Allan Hoy, Arlen Hoy, Wayland Bean, John Steere, Nate Steere and Trace Steere serving as pallbearers.

Virginia L. Hoy was born August 14, 1922, in Charles City, the daughter of Joe and Della (Schrader) Hansen. She received her education in rural country school near Pleasant Hill Church, west of Nashua. On August 3, 1941, in Charles City, she married Bernard Hoy. To this union two sons were born. Virginia loved working on the farm which she did her entire life. She enjoyed her peacocks, geese, sheep and other farm animals. She especially enjoyed her new white peacock. She enjoyed racking hay and seeding oats. For many years, she raised and sold strawberries. Virginia was very skilled at refinishing furniture for people in the surrounding area. Family gatherings were important to Virginia and she loved time with all her relatives. Bernard died on April 13, 1993, at the age of 74 .  Survivors include two sons, Virgil Hoy of Nashua, Jerry (Judy) Hoy of Nashua; five grandchildren, Allan (Kim) Hoy of Mason City, Debbie Hoy of Charles City, Darla (wayland) Bean of Ionia, Arlen (Shelley) Hoy of Marble Rock; five great-grandchildren, Krystal (jeff) Grubb, Kelsie Hoy, LaMont Hoy, Riley Butters and Tanner Hoy; one great-great-grandson; Teegan Winfrey; one sister, Della Reeve of Waterloo. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and three sisters, Leora Paine, Esther Juhl and Lucille Dixon.

Alma F. Bauer age 88 of Mt. Prospect, Ill, formerly of New Hampton died Saturday afternoon, June 1, 2013, at her daughters home in Mt. Prospect.     

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday,June 6, 2013, at Holy Family Parish – St. Joseph Center, New Hampton, with Rev.Mark Osterhaus celebrating the Mass.   Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, New Hampton. Friends may greet the family an hour prior to the Mass at the church on Thursday.

MARION AGNES MILBRANDT
August 17, 1940 - May 31, 2013

Marion Agnes Milbrandt, 72 of Waucoma, passed away on May 31, 2013.
 
Memorial service will be held at The New Hampton Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness (305 E Court St.) on June 8, 2013 at 4 p.m. Lunch will follow at the Community Center next to Kwik Star.
 
Marion was born on the family farm in rural Waucoma to Martin and Viola Bruesson Aug. 17, 1940. She went to high school at Waucoma and graduated in 1958. She worked as a Telephone operator for 3 years before marriage. Along with her full time job as a mother and wife, She worked full time for 19 years sharing the Bible truth with people according to Matt.24;14 “And this good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations”. She received Honors being the best wife and mother ever.
 
Marion is preceded in death by her parents Martin and Viola, brother DeWane, daughter Connie, daughter in law Lori.
 
Marion is survived by herHusband,DaleofWaucoma.Children; Darrel, Myron/ Evelyn, Denise/Jose, Kelli/ Shawn. Grandchildren: Staci/ Jerome Koob, Jessica, Kristin, Brooks, Cassandra, Nolan, Seanna, Emma, Sofia, Lilly. Great grandchildren; Clayton, Hudson.
 
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to everyone for their kindness and generosity. One scripture Marion really liked was; Rev. 21;4 And God will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more. Neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore the former things have passed away.

ARTHUR H. DEDOR

Arthur H. Dedor age 98 of Fredericksburg died Thursday evening, June 6, 2013, at the Linn Haven Rehab and Healthcare in New Hampton. 

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 11, 2013, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Fredericksburg with Pastor Ronnie Koch presiding. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Arthur Henry Dedor was born October 10, 1914, in Tripoli, the son of George and Mary (Krueger) Dedor. At a young age, the family moved to Wisconsin Rapids, Wisc., where he received his education in rural country schools. The family later moved back to live in the Sumner, area. Arthur met his future wife at Walther League and on December 26, 1939, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg, he married Leona Gitch. To this union three daughters were born. The couple initially farmed on rented land and in 1957 purchased their own farm located four miles east of Fredericksburg. They retired into town and built their home in 1977. The couple loved traveling and also wintered in Texas for several years. Leona died on June 17, 1999. Arthur continued to live in their home before becoming a resident of Linn Haven Rehab and Healthcare on June 14, 2011. Arthur loved car rides to check the crops, fishing and eating at all the local restaurants. He always made time for family vacations. In 2000, he was named the “Grand Dairyman” for the Annual Fredericksburg Dairy Days. 

Survivors include three daughters, Mildred (Ty) Burger of Waterloo, Bernice (Darwyn) Leisinger of Waterloo, Virginia Dedor of Elgin; three grandchildren, Tyrone (Jennifer) Burger of Runnells, Iowa, Tina Leisinger of Waverly, Amy Leisinger of Lombard, Ill.; one sister, Edith (Robert) Gersonde of Sumner; one sister-in-law, Carmen Dedor of Mason City. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two brothers, Edwin Dedor, Ernest Dedor; one sister, Meta Moore.


MARILYN NIEMANN
May 30, 1937 - June 4, 2013

Marilyn Niemann, age 76 of Fredericksburg, died Tuesday June 4, 2013, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. 
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday June 10, 2013,at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg with Pastor Ronnie Koch officiating. 
 
Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Fredericksburg with Jason Byrne, John Ficcadenti, Dave Ungerer, Darren Corson, Larry Kuecker and Ray Armbrecht as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Marilyn’s seven grandchildren, Carly Niemann, Kelly Niemann, Johanna Ficcadenti, Francesca Ficcadenti, Jaycie Byrne, Braylen Byrne and Miyah Byrne.

Marilyn Ann was born May 30, 1937, in Sumner, the daughter of Arthur and Florence (Lempke) Weidemann. She received her education in Hawkeye graduating from the Hawkeye High School in 1956. After high school she worked in Waterloo for the Rath Packing Co.

On January 4, 1959, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye, she was united in marriage to Gary Lee Niemann. To this union four children were born, Stephen, Kimberly, Stefanie and Suzette. The couple made Fredericksburg their home. 
Marilyn worked for Meinerz Creamery, the local grocery store and Beatrice Foods in Fredericksburg. She retired in 1999, after 22 years with Beatrice. In November of 1996, at the age of 59, her beloved Gary died. 

Marilyn was a cub scout Den Mother for many years. She also was a member of Lydia Circle at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg. Marilyn also enjoyed her card club and the festivities associated with it. She loved time with her family, and especially her grandchildren. She will be remembered by her family as a devoted mother and grandmother who had a very strong faith. 
She is survived by one son, Stephen (Peggy) Niemann of Fredericksburg; three daughters, Kimberly (John) Ficcadenti of White Bear Lake, Stefanie Niemann of Cedar Falls and Suzette (Jason) Byrne of Lawler; seven grandchildren, Carly Niemann, Kelly Niemann, Johanna Ficcadenti, Francesaca Ficcadenti, Jaycie Byrne, Braylene Byrne and Miya Byrne; one sister, Kathryn (Mervin) Ungerer of Hawkeye; two sisters-in-law, KaRene (Don) Lehman of Bend, OR and Fonda Corson of Bettendorf.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Gary on November 1, 1996.

Madonna & Gilbert Bynon of Torrance, Calif, died this year. Madonna, on Jan. 16, 2013 in Palos Verdes Estates, Calif. and Gilbert died Feb. 21, 2013 in Torrance, one month after his beloved wife. 
A Memorial Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 15, 2013, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Ionia, with inurnment in St. Boniface Cemetery with military honors conducted by the New Hampton American Legion and VFW Posts.

GERALD 'Jerry' DEBETTIGNIES

Gerald “Jerry” DeBettignies of Omaha, Nebraska, age 89 years, passed away in his sleep early in the morning of Friday, June 7th. He had recovered from a bout of pneumonia in the past few months, but was having continuing trouble breathing.

Jerry was born in New Hampton, Iowa, on April 8, 1924. He was the son of Charles and Lucile DeBettignies. Before WWII Jerry briefly served in the FBI, receiving a signed thank you from J. Edgar Hoover. He served as an Army Paratrooper during the war.

Jerry started as a salesman and eventually was promoted to Vice President of Sales with the H. D. Lee Company (famous makers of blue jeans) in the Fifth Avenue New York City office. He doubled the sales in territory after territory. Jerry was one of the main forces driving the surging sales and popularity of blue jeans in the 1970s.

After his retirement, Jerry served as President of SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives). During his tenure, SCORE initiated the Business Development Center, incorporating many cutting edge tools for the time, including computer networks sharing information and tools from around the world.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth A. DeBettignies; daughter, Jean; and son, Chuck.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 12th from 5pm to 7pm followed by a brief VIGIL SERVICE at 7pm at the West Center Chapel of Heafey-Hoffmann-Dworak-Cutler Mortuaries. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be Thursday, June 13th at 10:30am at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, 15353 Pacific in Omaha. Interment, Calvary Cemetery, Omaha. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society/Nebraska Chapter.

CEOLA R. SULLIVAN

Ceola R. Sullivan age 95 of Fredericksburg, died Friday, June 14, 2013, at the New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
 
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 20, 2013, at the Hillcrest Baptist and Brethren Church, Fredericksburg with Rev. David Byrd presiding. 

Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery with Bruce Steege, Al Beier, Keith Suhr, Keith Benter, Bill Mulder and David Speicher serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Matthew Baker, Jessica Lapelis, Joshua Wakeman, Jason Wakeman, Kyle Lapelis and Dagny Wakeman.

Ceola Rosalie Sullivan was born January 11, 1918, in Lime Springs, the ninth child of Frederick and Rose (Schroder) Fisher. Growing up on a farm, Ceola enjoyed the woods to pick berries, roamed the apple orchards, swam and fished in the river plus tended the chickens, horses and dairy cows. She also enjoyed helping in the huge vegetable garden. Threshing days were her favorite as she helped her mother cook and bake specialties loving the excitement. She attended rural and town schools in Lime Springs and graduated top of the class in Aredale in 1934, at the age of 16. 
 
Ceola worked in Hampton, for Purell News and Swift & Co. She also lived in Waterloo and worked for Hanson & Co. sewing cartridge belts and luggage for veterans returning from war. Eighteen years at Shawver Well Co. and two years at Beatrice Cheese completed her working careers. 
She married Kenneth Sullivan in 1950 in Fredericksburg where Kenneth co-partnered ownership of the John Deere Implement. To this union two daughters were born, Dixie and Angela. They were blessed with four grandchildren and Ceola with two great-grandchildren. The couple were Grand Marshalls of the Dairy Day parade in 1992.
 
Ceola was a member of Peace Evangelical Church, later transferring membership to Hillcrest Baptist and Brethren Church. Ceola enjoyed children, teaching Sunday School and VBS, and was a Girl Scout and 4-H Leader. She was an active church member in the Ladies and Sewing Circles and vases of her garden flowers often adorned the sanctuary. She was also a member of the Garden Club and Senior Citizens group. 
Ceola had many hobbies including writing poetry, oil painting, gardening (vegetable, fruit, flowers), cooking, sewing and quilting. In all these areas, she expressed artistic talents and appreciation of God's beauty. She loved sharing the fruits of her labor with family and friends especially her cooking, baking and hand-stitched quilts. Many Sundays, the family spent fishing/boating on the Mississippi or trout fishing at Decorah or Elkader. Kenneth and Ceola went on several bus trips and took their mini-home to the Ozarks for more fishing and sight-seeing. 
 
Ceola dearly loved God, her family, nature’s beauty, helping and serving others. She leaves a legacy of faith and fond memories to cherish.
Survivors include two daughters, Dixie Wakeman of Fredericksburg and Angela (George) Baker of Arlington Heights, IL; four grandchildren, Matthew Baker of Port Hueneme, CA, Joshua (Joanne) Wakeman of San Diego, CA, Jessica Lapelis of Clarksville, TN and Jason Wakeman of Davenport, IA; two great-grandchildren, Kyle Lapelis and Dagny Wakeman; many nieces and nephews.
 
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kenneth in 2000; three sisters, Leta Hennesly, Helyn Gott and Vera Roesler; six brothers, Herbert, Paul, Emil, Erwin, Carl and Milton Fisher; a son-in-law, Gregg Wakeman.


MICHAEL D. KELLOGG
August 17, 1951 - June 12, 2013

Michael D. Kellogg age 61 of rural Nashua, died Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at his home following a long battle with prostate cancer.

Michael D. Kellogg was born August 17, 1951, in Charles City, the son of Dale and Wilma (Martin) Kellogg. He received his education in the New Hampton Community School District where he graduated in 1970. On August 4, 1973, he married Brenda Halvorson at the Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton. To this union a daughter, Carrie and son, Casey were born. The couple initially lived in the New Hampton area and in 1981, moved to Spillville, where they ran the Czech Inn until 1986. Following their time in Spillville, Mike and Brenda moved to Riverside, where he worked for the Twin County Dairy in Kalona for over 20 years. In 2008, they moved to their current Nashua home where Mike drove truck for Rausch Brothers Trucking, retiring in 2011.

Mike was an avid outdoorsman. He liked hunting, fishing, gardening, and his horses and mules. For many years he raised German Shorthaired Pointers that he trained and shipped around the country. He especially enjoyed elk hunting trips to Colorado where the group hunted by mule. He loved riding and packing his mules and did a lot of camping and trailriding with them. Mike also loved the time he spent helping his brothers farm. More than all of his outdoor activities, he treasured the time with all his family, especially his granddaughters.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 40 years, Brenda; one daughter, Carrie (John) Wiggins of Renton, Wash; one son, Casey (Liz) Kellogg of Mesa, Ariz; three granddaughters, Brielle, Stella and Everly Wiggins; five siblings; Leroy (Lynette) Kellogg, Bruce (Sharon) Kellogg, Larry (Diane) Kellogg, Leslie (Cindy) Kellogg, all of Ionia, Sandra (Dan) Bucknell of Tripoli; five brothers and sisters-in-law; Bucky (Pam) Halvorson, Lori (Mike) Rosonke, all of New Hampton, Debra (Steven) Lahr of Fairfax Station, Va., Todd (Krista) Halvorson of Erie, Colo., Tamara (Dan) Brockob of Madrid; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a nephew,Joe Kellogg and his father and mother-in-law, Benny and Jan Halvorson.


IMELDA R. UNGS

Imelda R. Ungs, age 87, formerly of New Hampton, passed away peacefully Friday, June 14, 2013 at Villa St. Joseph in Overland Park, Kansas.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at Holy Family Parish-St. Joseph Center in New Hampton with Father Carl Schmitt celebrating.

Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, New Hampton with Andrew Ungs, Angela Morgan, Abigail Buchwach, Allison Buchwach, Jason Morgan and Kenneth Buchwach as pallbearers.

Friends may greet the family from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Imelda Rose Ungs was born April 11, 1926 in St. Lucas, the daughter of Joseph and Teresa Hackman Ott, where she was baptized and later confirmed in the Catholic faith. She received her education at St. Luke’s School in St. Lucas. She was married in 1948 to Reynold Ungs in Little Turkey. The couple made their home in Protivin, and had two children, Norma and Duane. Sadly their life together was cut short by Reynold’s untimely passing in 1954.

Imelda raised her two children in New Hampton working at the Sweet Shop, IGA grocery and began work in 1972 at Sara Lee. Her foremost goal was to provide a good life for her kids, but she always made time for St. Mary’s Church and the Rosary Society. She liked playing cards, baking, gardening, reading and playing the slot machines at the boat. And she loved a good laugh.

Mel always tried to do the right thing and treat others with respect. These and many other good qualities were passed on to her children. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Survivors include daughter, Norma (Ken) Buchwach of Leawood, Kansas and son, Duane (Jane) Ungs of Lansing, Iowa; four grandchildren, Angela (Jason) Morgan, Andrew Ungs, Abby and Allison Buchwach; and two great-grandchildren, Macy and Asher Morgan. Mel is survived by her sister, Loretta Drewelow of Waterloo, sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brothers Arnold, Arthur, Albert, Alfred, Joseph and Jerome, and two sisters, Margaret Williams and Adelia Coburn.

The family sincerely thanks the staff at Villa St. Joseph for their kindness, care and vigilance.

Marilyn Jean Jordan age 74 of Nashua, formally of Cedar Rapids, passed away Wednesday, June 19, 2013, peacefully at home with her family by her side.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, June 24, 2013, at the Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home in Nashua with Rev. Jessica Margrave Schirm presiding. Interment will be held in Oak Hill Cemetery, Nashua with grandchildren Nichole McKenna, Melissa Hendrix, Angela Becker, Mason Laube, Tyler Laube, Kylie Laube, Hannah Jordan, and Dakota Jordan serving as pallbearers.

Marilyn was born February 1, 1939 the daughter of Edwin and Marian (Vilmont) Frick on a farm near Durant, Iowa. She married her high school sweetheart Richard L. Jordan on July 27,1956, in Iowa City, and graduated from Bennett High School in Bennett, in 1957.

Marilyn was a very loving mother, who never had to worry where her kids were, because everyone was usually hanging around their house. She was always lending an ear, gave straightforward advice, and loved joking around. She was very involved with her children’s activities such as PTA, Cub Scouts, Blue Birds, Book Fair, Sports, Drama, and Music Boosters. She was a natural caretaker, and always rooted for the “under-dog”. She took care of several elderly people in their homes, and volunteered with special needs children. Marilyn never met a stranger.

She also enjoyed watching her grandkids events, you always knew who belonged to her while cheering in the crowd. She was a little woman with a mighty voice. She was an enthusiastic Minnesota Vikings fan, as well as Iowa Hawkeye basketball and football.

She enjoyed watching the birds and did a lot of gardening and canning in her earlier years. In her golden years she and her husband spent their summers camping and going on long motorcycle trips with good friends.

She loved to play the piano and the accordion her father was so proud to buy her at a young age. She was always the life of the party and teasing due to being so short, but she was full of good humor herself.

One thing she was especially known for was her "BIG HUGS” that were so tight you couldn’t breathe and if she could get away with it, a kiss too.

She is survived by her husband Richard “Dick” of Nashua; one son, Jerry (Chris) of Fairfax; three daughters, Julie (Loren) Becker of Shellsburg, Jill Jordan of Clear Lake, Jeannie (Tom) Laube of Nashua; 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; one sister, Barb VanDenBerghe of Dewitt; one brother, Roger (Sue) Frick of Waukon; one brother-in-law, Marland (DeAnna) Jordan of Lena, Ill; several nieces and nephews, and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister Corrine “Connie”.


LORRAINE M. HAYDEN

Lorraine M. Hayden, age 91, of Charles City, IA, passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at Cedar Health in Charles City.

Lorraine was born on March 23, 1922 to James and Loretta (Conway) Stapleton in Nashua, IA. As a young child Lorraine moved with her family to Elma where she grew up and graduated from Immaculate Conception Academy in 1940. She worked at the Elma Post Office. Lorraine was united in marriage to Merle Hayden on June 23, 1943 in Boise, ID. The couple made their home in Elma and Waterloo then moved to their present home in Charles City. Lorraine kept books for their trucking business and then kept books for Farm Fleet. She especially loved attending her children’s sporting events and spending time with her grandson, Cole. Lorraine was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Charles City and the Charles City VFW Auxiliary.

Lorraine is survived by the couple’s children, Sandra Kostka of Springdale, AR, Bill Hayden of Nora Springs, IA, Larry Hayden of Charles City, IA and Trish (Tommy) Hayden-Brown of Wake Forest, NC; one brother-in-law, Jack (Kay) Hayden of Elma, IA; one grandson, Cole Hayden of Waterloo and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Merle Hayden on August 21, 2012; her brothers, Harold and Robert Stapleton and her sister Betty Springer.


GERALDINE MARSROW
June 12, 1936 - June 11, 2013

Geraldine Marsrow, 76, of Reese, loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, died early Tuesday morning, June 11, 2013 at the Cartwright Care Center in Saginaw.

She was born on June 12, 1936, in Ionia, Iowa, daughter of the late Walter and Hattie (Schmudlach) Crooks. She was united in marriage to William J. “Bill” Marsrow on September 1, 1956 in Yakima, Washington. He preceded her on October 18, 2002.

Gerry was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Reese. She was an avid Detroit Tigers fan and loved to travel, bowl and fish. Her love for fishing was so pronounced that she carried a bobber in her purse.

Surviving are her children and their spouses, William M. and Renee Marsrow of Richville, Thomas E. and Kristine Marsrow, Karen A. Sweet all of Reese, Daniel Marsrow of Gladwin; grandchildren, William E. (Danielle), Shaina, and Cameron Marsrow, Michael and Amanda Sweet, Brooke and Maya Marsrow, Zachary and Lucas Manning, Teddy (Michael) Villareal, and Joe Beckrow; brother, Carl (Shirley) Crooks of Ionia, Iowa; sister, Martha Mannetter of Nashua, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Kathy Crooks of Charles City, Iowa, Judy Telmos of Saginaw and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband Bill and parents, Gerry was preceded by a sister, Annamae Bergmann and a brother, Larry Crooks.

Crystal R. Hutzell age 28 of Charles City died Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at the Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home in Nashua with Pastor Okitakoyi Lundula with the United Methodist Church in Nashua presiding. Private family interment will take place at a later date.

Crystal Renee Hutzell was born March 1, 1985, in Clayton County, Ga., the daughter of Keith and Judith (Marcurella) Stroud. At an early age the family moved back to the Nashua area. Crystal received her education in Nashua and attended the Nashua High School through her junior year. She stayed home to care for her family after her children were born.

Survivors include one son, Ethan Myher; one daughter, Alyce Myhre; special friend, Nathan Sheppard; the children’s father, Nathan Myhre all of Charles City; one brother, Michael (Christina) Stroud of Nashua; two sisters, Kim Stroud and Stephanie Stroud, both of Charles City; aunt, Margaret (Jerry) Mueller of Tripoli; nieces and nephews, Christian Hillman, Aubreigh Stroud, Michael Stroud Jr., Ashlyn Stroud, all of Nashua.

She was preceded in death by her parents and an aunt, Joyce Liddle.


LEONE M. KOBLISKA
February 6, 1943 - June 19, 2013

Leone M. Kobliska, age 70 of Alta Vista, died Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at her home.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, June 24, 2013, at the Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home in New Hampton, with Rev. Dave Byrd presiding. Special CD selections will be "Amazing Grace" and "In The Garden".

Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Little Turkey, with Tim Bahlman, Kenny Bahlman, Tylor Kobliska, and Brady Barker serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearer will be Ricky Kobliska.

Leone Madonna Kobliska was born February 6, 1943, in New Hampton, the daughter of Leonard and Madonna (Kelly) Kacher. She attended rural county schools and graduated from Rudolphinum High School in Protivin,  in 1961. Shortly after completing her education she married Clarence Kobliska on May 7, 1966, at Assumption Parish Little Turkey. To this union two children were born. The couple later divorced.

She had a house cleaning business for many years in the Alta Vista area. Leone had a passion for animals and was extremely good at nursing sick or injured animals back to health. She once had a baby deer named Bambi that she nursed back to health. Leone had a horse named Charger and a dog named Harley that she loved and adored.

She enjoyed spending time outdoors, riding horses, and helping anyone that needed something. She cherished the time spent with her family and friends and cooking for her grandchildren.

Survivors include two sons, Ricky Kobliska (Brenda Parks) of Alta Vista,  Bobby (Krista) Kobliska of Alta Vista; special friend, Dale Roethler of Alta Vista; five grandchildren, Tylor Kobliska, Josie Kobliska, Kaden Kobliska, Brady Barker, and Abby Barker; one great-grandchild, Reegan Barker; one sister, Eileen (Kenny) Bahlman of Frederika.

Leone was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Madonna Kacher.
