Marilyn L. Schwickerath dies at 75

Marilyn L. Schwickerath age 75 of North Washington, died Saturday morning, June 2, 2012, at her home.

A Memorial Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, North Washington with Rev. Mark Osterhaus celebrating the Mass. Lectors for the Mass include Becky Bohr, Tricia Juszczyck, and Katie Bohr. June and Ron Bohr will present the offertory gifts.

Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, North Washington, with Dale Schwickerath, Deb Schwickerath and Stacy Trower serving as urnbearers. Honorary urnbearers include Stacy Trower, Shaun Schwickerath, Samantha Schwickerath, Shannon Schwickerath, Becky Bohr, Tricia Juszczyck, Jared Bohr, Katie Bohr, Matt Rosenbaum, Carla Rosenbaum, Preston Trower, Addison Trower, Kamdyn Trower, Michaela Schwickerath, Amelia Reddel, and Alex Chevchuc.

Friends may greet the family 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at the Hugeback – Johnson Funeral Home, New Hampton where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and a 5 p.m. parish scripture service. Marilyn Laura Schwickerath was born May 25, 1937, in New Hampton, the daughter of Raymond W. and Genevieve J. (Flick) Burgart. She was baptized and confirmed at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in North Washington and received her education at St. Mary’s School there. On December 27, 1955, Marilyn was united in marriage to Gerald Schwickerath at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in North Washington. To this union three children were born June, Michael and Dale.

The couple briefly lived in Waterloo and then started farming south of Ionia for a short time before settling on their farm near North Washington. Marilyn loved working on the farm side-by-side with Gerald. She would rather be working outdoors tending to all the chores, her huge gardens and raising laying chickens. She enjoyed woodworking and made many items that her family cherishes today. Beginning in 1985, Marilyn worked at Sara Lee until the plant closed in 2000. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Rosary Society, had volunteered cleaning the church and had served on the Parish Council.

Marilyn is survived by; daughter, June (Ron) Bohr of Riceville; two sons, Michael (Robin) Schwickerath of Ionia and Dale (Deb) Schwickerath of New Hampton; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Luella Junko of Lawler, Jeanette (Al) Hegenbarth of Mason City; one brother, Ralph (Mary Pat) Burgart of North Washington.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Gerald on April 2, 2012,

 

Albert Glen Fobes dies at 96

Albert Glen Fobes, age 96, of Waverly, and formerly of Edgewood, died Saturday, June 02, 2012, at Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly.

Glen has been cremated and memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on June 12 at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Waverly with Pastor Deborah Wise officiating.  In Lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Glen’s family and online condolences may be left at www.kaisercorson.com

Glen was born on December 19, 1915, on a farm near Volga, the son of Albert C. and Elsie B. (Hold) Fobes.  He attended school in Fayette and graduated from the Fayette High School in 1933.  Glen then entered Upper Iowa University in Fayette and graduated with a B.A. in math and music in 1937.  While in college he was active in the music program, and played football.  After graduating he taught in Greely,  from 1937 to 1942.  On December 31, 1940, Glen was united in marriage to Irma Hunt in Manchester, Iowa.  In 1942, Glen enlisted in the Reserve Corps, and in June of 1943 he was inducted into the United States Army.  He had his Basic Training at Camp Koehler near Sacramento, California.  In the fall of 1943, he went to Hawaii where he spent his service years.  Glen served in the Signal Corps, and was in cryptographic work in the message center there.  In January of 1946, he was discharged and he returned to Iowa, where Glen and Irma settled in Edgewood and he operated a chicken hatchery and poultry farm.  In 1958, Glen became a partner in an insurance agency in Edgewood, bought the agency from his partner in 1973, and sold the business in 1978. In 1988, the couple moved to Waverly to be close to his daughter and her family.

While living in Edgewood he was an active member at the United Methodist church, where Glen served as the choir director for thirty years.  He was a member of Avalon Lodge and the Avalon Chapter of the Eastern Star.  Glen served on the Edgewood City Council, and was a member of the Commercial Club and American Legion.   While living in Waverly Glen spent his time golfing, playing bridge, and belonged to Trinity United Methodist Church and the Walk and Talk Club.  Glen’s greatest passion though was spending time with his children and grandchildren as well as following Iowa sports and his beloved Cubs.

Glen’s memory is honored by his two children; Steve (Penny) Fobes of Hilton Head, South Carolina and Jean (Jerry) Rochford of New Hampton; three grandsons, Jerry J. Rochford (J.J.) of Guttenberg, James Rochford of Edgewood, and Joel (Andrea) Rochford of New Hampton; and seven great-grandchildren, Payton, Preston, Parker, Pyrce, Conner, Carlee, and Caden Rochford. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Irma.


 

Jack A. Knudsen dies at 76

Jack A. Knudsen, age 76, of 203 Dawn Drive, Nashua, passed away on June 8, 2012, at home.

Memorial services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 28, 2012, at the United Methodist Church with private family inurnment at Oakhill Cemetery, both in Nashua.

Friends may greet the family beginning at 9 a.m. Thursday, June 28, 2012 at the church. Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home in Nashua is entrusted with arrangements.


 

Rev. George Pimlott dies at 96

Rev. George Pimlott, 96, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids.

Per his wishes there will be no services. His body has been cremated. Arrangements are by Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include three sons, Ed Pimlott of Ogden; James (Carolyn) Pimlott of Cedar Rapids, and Walter (Kathleen) Pimlott of Brooklyn Center, Minnesota; sister, Margaret Morgan of Catlin, Illnois; daughter-in-law, Pat Pimlott, of St. Lucas; twelve grandchildren, Christine, Laura, Sarah, Michael, Kate, Ben, Carol, Ken, Jason, Kate, Shannon, and Stacy; and ten great grandchildren.

George was born March 14, 1916, in Ordway, Colorado, the son of Francis “Frank” and Crystal (Gilbert) Pimlott. On August 31, 1941, he married Alberta Young in Litchfield, Illinois. He was a graduate of McKendree University and the Iliff School of Theology where he received his Master of Divinity. George was a pastor in the United Methodist Church for 40 years, serving in Iowa at Linden UMC in Waterloo, Grace UMC in Marcus, Nashua UMC in Nashua, and St. James UMC in Cedar Rapids.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; son, David; sister, Dorothy Shook; and brothers, Charles and Walter Pimlott.

Irma Stone Levin Dixon dies at 92

Irma Stone Levin Dixon 92 of Gurnee, Ill., formerly of New Hampton & Lawler, died Thursday June 21, 2012 at her home and with family near her side, in Gurnee, Ill.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at the Gurnee Community Church; 4555 Old Grand Ave., Gurnee, Ill. Visitation will be at the church from 9 - 10 a.m., just preceding the memorial service.

Interment will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at the New Hampton City Cemetery. Irma was born in New Hampton, on June 14, 1920, the daughter of Vallie and Alice (Bell) Stone. She received her education in Lawler and attended the Upper Iowa University in Fayette. She was united in marriage to Milton Levin and to this union four children were born. Their son, Ray Joseph also joined the family. Mr. Levin died in 1973 and she later married Tom Dixon. Mr. Dixon died in 2000.

Irma had a passion for politics and ran for the Illinois State Senate in 1966, losing by only a thousand votes. She also was employed by the Chicago Association of Realtors for many years. Irma was always very active in Chicago area politics and a friend to many. Irma was known by her friends as the woman who always opened her home to others and hosted all the holiday events.

Survivors include her three daughters, Valerie Reynolds (John) of Ashley, MI, Sue Perdue (Tom) of Crystal Lake, Ill. and Dr. Allison Baer (Paul Wilson) of Findlay, Ohio, and Kalamazoo, MI; two sons, David Levin (Lois) of Des Plaines, Ill. and Ray Joseph of New Hampshire; seventeen grandchildren, many great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Sue Joseph of surburban Chicago; two sisters-in-law, Marion Stone of New Hampton and Betty Stone of suburban Chicago; step-children, Susan Boardman (Paul) and Sheila Swank (Wayne); and numerous nieces and nephews who loved and appreciated "Aunt Irma".

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; and two brothers, Neal Stone and Alan Stone.

 

Lester A. Johnson dies at 82

Lester A. Johnson, age 82 of New Hampton, died on Friday, June 22, 2012 at New Hampton Care Center in New Hampton.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at Jerico Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jerico, with Pastor Daniel Larson officiating. Burial will be in Jerico Lutheran Cemetery with Tony Johnson, Trevor Johnson, Chad Smith, Chance Johnson, Joseph Meirick and Tom Frantzen serving as casket bearers. Military rites will be provided by the New Hampton American Legion Post 38 and VFW Post 5238.

Visitation will be 1 - 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at Jerico Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jerico.

Lester Adolph Johnson was born in the Elma Hospital on September 1, 1929 the son of Joeand Carrie (Northness) Johnson. He was baptized and confirmed at the Jerico Evangelical Lutheran Church where he was still a member. He attended rural schools and after graduation from the eighth grade he helped on his father’s farm and also hauled cream. Later he helped another farmer and also became employed at A.R. Morse Implement in New Hampton as a mechanic.

On January 28, 1953 he was united in marriage to Marlys Lee Schanfeld of Alta Vista at United Brethren Church in Alta Vista. Later in 1953 Lester entered the US Army stationed at Ft. Bliss, Texas. The following year he was stationed in New York becoming a guided missile instructor. He served his country until May of 1955 when he was honorably discharged. Also he took the GED test graduating with four years of high school and one year of college. After coming home from the service he started farming and also worked at McGrath Implement. They later purchased the farm and Lester continued to farm. They became the parents of three children Donald, Richard and Wayne.

Lester is survived by his wife Marlys of New Hampton; children Donald (Pat) Johnson of New Hampton and Wayne Johnson of New Hampton; four grandchildren Trisha, Trevor, Tony and Chance; one step grandson Josh; four great grandchildren Hailiegh, Cameron, Kaiden and Lucas; and three step great grandchildren Garred, Dawson and Trent.

He is preceded in death by his parents; son Richard who was killed in an auto accident in 1978; great grandson Logan; sisters and brothers Alvie (Gertrude) Johnson, Josephine (Clarence) Marik, Olaf (Marge) Johnson and Alice (Carlton) Landswerk.


 

Nicole R. (Leach) Hollabaugh dies at 40

Nicole R. (Leach) Hollabaugh, age 40 of Nashua, died Sunday June 24, 2012, at her home.

Friends may greet the family 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 29, 2012, at the Hugeback – Johnson Funeral Home in Nashua.

Private family interment will take place in Colorado on a later date.

Joleen Rae Lindhorst dies at 57

Joleen Rae Lindhorst of Mason City, passed away on Thursday, June 21, 2012, at the Mercy Medical Center in Mason City at the age of 57.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 26, 2012, 1:30 p.m. at Oakcrest Funeral Services, Algona.

Joleen was born August 4, 1954, in New Hampton, the daughter of Kenneth and Betty (Wildin) Lindhorst. Joleen attended the New Hampton Community School.

She is survived by a sister Sherry and Leon Wait of Nashua; two nieces, LeAnne Wait of Waverly, and Valerie and Greg Hennings of Waverly; and two great-nieces Madelyn and Kayla Hennings of Waverly.

She was preceeded in death by her parents Kenneth and Betty Lindhorst and an infant brother Garry Lindhorst.
