RAYMOND ARLO TESDAHL
March 24, 1925 - November 4, 2013

Raymond Arlo Tesdahl (88) passed away on November 4, 2013 at his home in Phoenix, Arizona.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce, and sons Ronald (Betsy) Tesdahl of Phoenix, AZ and Steven (Lori) Tesdahl of Lawrence, KS along with four grandchildren (Corey, Jill, Taylor and Kaley) and three greatgranddaughters (Hannah, Emma and Ava).

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edd and Bertha Tesdahl, and his brother, Sherman Tesdahl.

Raymond was born March 24, 1925, educated in the one room grade school in the rural Norway Township community of Iowa, and experienced on-the-job training of earning a living on the home farm. He graduated from Renwick, Iowa high school and later the American Institute of Business in Des Moines.

He joined the Navy in 1946. In as much as he was educated in business, he served his entire Naval Career (6 years) performing various financial duties. He served both at the end of World War II and the Korean War. It was while stationed in Boston that he met and became engaged to Joyce. They were united in marriage on June 25, 1949.

He was an active lifetime Lutheran, serving as Treasurer and/or committee member at the churches where they were members. He was employed by the Great Lakes Naval Training Center Credit Union and served 32 years, as Manager for 3 years and then President/CEO until he retired in 1988. After retirement, he volunteered for 15 years as an AARP Income Tax Counselor for the elderly.

Raymond and Joyce particularly enjoyed traveling. They visited all 50 states and took eight international trips with the highlight being the Holy Land, Corinth, Greece, and Egypt. They also enjoyed family trips to the Montreal, New York, and Spokane World’s Fairs, and annual fishing trips to lakes in Minnesota and Wisconsin. God was good, along with caretaker Joyce, to allow him to survive three heart surgeries over a 40 year period.

ROBERT J. BATEMAN
September 16, 1939 - November 8, 2013

Robert J. Bateman, 74, of Williams passed away Friday, November 8, 2013 at his home in Williams.

Visitation was held Tuesday, November 12, 2013 from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Clarion Church of Christ and continues one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.

Funeral services for Robert Bateman were held Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at 11:00 a.m., at the Clarion Church of Christ, 420 North Main Street in Clarion with Pastor Warren Curry and Pastor Bob Henkelman officiating. Robert Jackson Bateman was born September 16, 1939 to Carlos and Birdie Mae (Eaves) Bateman in Shuqualak, Mississippi.

Robert began his lifelong career as an over-the-road truck driver at the age of 17, which lasted 42 years. During his time on the road Robert amassed 4,000,000 Safe Driving Miles as Company driver with Consolidated Freight Ways, Roadway, Dart and several others, including time spent in Saudi Arabia as a civilian contractor. He owned and operated his own trucks and trucking company and as an accomplished driver he shared his knowledge by teaching others to drive and operate a semi carefully and skillfully.

Robert was united in marriage with Cheryl LaRue in 1982 in Laurel, Mississippi and the couple made their home in several states over the years. In October of 2011, the couple moved to Williams, where they currently reside. Robert enjoyed drinking coffee, smoking cigarettes and listening to country music. He was a genuine cowboy, having never been known to wear anything other than western shirts, blue jeans, cowboy boots and a Stetson cowboy hat.

He loved watching classic western movies, keeping up with the news and politics. Robert was stubborn, determined, strong-willed and opinionated, gruff on the outside but had a very loving and generous heart. He loved his children and grandchildren and would do almost anything for them at any time.

Robert is survived by his wife, Cheryl Bateman of Williams; children Michele (Gary) Mack of Webster City, Brian (Jeannie) Bateman of Watertown, Wisconsin, Kris (Nick) Rexroat of Webster City, Rochelle (Brett) Drews of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, and Greg (Dawn) Obrecht of Webster City; 17 grandchildren and 12 greatgrandchildren; a brother Gullye (Vera) Bateman of Melbourne, Florida; along with numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Joyce Permenter, a brother Curtis Bateman, and two sisters and one brother in infancy.

Ewing Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

LORRAINE L. HUFFMAN
February 27, 1922 - November 5, 2013

Lorraine L. Huffman, 91, of Crystal Lake, IL passed away November 5, 2013 at Fair Oaks Health Care Center.

She was born February 27, 1922 in Minot, North Dakota to Ole Neil and Crystal (Mowers) Landsverk.

Lorraine was an only child raised in “big sky” country by loving parents.

On September 26, 1942 she eloped to Sidney, Montana, marrying George Wallen Huffman. Lorraine, George and their children settled in Crystal Lake in 1957, where she lived most of her adult life. Lorraine loved making Crystal Lake her home.

Most recently she resided at The Fountains, where she greatly enjoyed her fellow residents, the staff and activities. Lorraine taught biology, and later, for many years, found substitute teaching to be her delight.

She eventually retired as a librarian from Crystal Lake South High School. Lorraine actively volunteered in many church and community activities. She was a member of PEO Chapter LD. Lorraine was a Stephen Minister. Lorraine enjoyed traveling, exploring many parts of the world with George.

She was a life long learner, enjoying reading, lectures, book reviews, and bible studies. Lorraine also enjoyed socializing, bridge, Sunday drives, bird watching, theatre, concerts, and her church family. Most of all she had a deep faith in Jesus and an undying love for her family.

She is survived by her children, Peyton (Kitty Wright) Huffman, Ron (Betty) Huffman, and Krista Huffman; her grandchildren, Heather (David Bratcher) Huffman, Lori (Brian) Chrisman, Bret (Katherine) Corbin, and Todd Hilton; her greatgrandchildren, Garrett, Collin, Taylor Ann, and Dean; and a cousin, Kirk (Hillary) Steinhaus.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents. Visitation will be from 4 to 8pm on Friday, November 15 at Querhammer & Flagg Funeral Home, 500 W. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake.

The service will be at 11am on Saturday, November 16 at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 485 W. Woodstock St., Crystal Lake. Interment will be in Crystal Lake Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s United Church of Christ or to the Raue Center for the Arts, 26 N. Williams St., Crystal Lake, IL 60014. For information call the funeral home at 815-459-1760.

JEANICE JUNE CUPPETT
May 3, 1922 - November 1, 2013

Jeanice June Cuppett, the daughter of David Lee and Laura Ann (Fanselow) Cuppett, was born May 3, 1922, in Dows, Iowa.

She was raised in the area of her birth and home schooled by her mother. Jeanice lived most of her life in Dows until moving to Eagle Grove in 1982. In July of 1996, she moved to the care center in Clarion where she was currently living. Jeanice always attended church and was known for her smile. She enjoyed playing games- especially Chinese checkers and muggins, was a huge Chicago Cubs fan and loved her canaries. Morgan Methodist Church celebrated “Jeanice Days” where she would display and sell her fancy work.

Jeanice passed away on Friday, November 1, 2013, at Clarion Wellness and Rehab at the age of 91 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Paul; a niece, Bernice Thurmond and a greatniece, Morgan Dickersen.

Survivors include her twin sister, Jeanette Thurmond of Eagle Grove; nieces and nephews, Raymond (Linda) Thurmond and family, Dennis Thurmond and family, Janis (Jerry) Zatloukal and family, Debra (Steve) Webb and family and special friend, Raynee Delano. Funeral services were held Friday, November 8, 2013, at 2:30 p.m. at Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove with Pastor Mike Agnew officiating.

Burial was in Morgan Township Cemetery near Dows.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.

Foust Funeral Home of Eagle Grove was in charge of arrangements.

DAVID ANDERSON
June 29, 1946 - November 16, 2013

David Anderson, 67, of Clarion, passed away Saturday, November 16, 2013, at Iowa Specialty Hospital in Clarion.

A memorial gathering for David Anderson was held on Tuesday, November 19, 2013, at First Lutheran Church, 420 1st Street North West in Clarion.

David Mathias Anderson was born on June 29, 1946, in Ironwood, Michigan to Edward and Martha Anderson.

After graduating high school in 1965, David enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country from 1966- 1968.

On July 23, 1966, David was united in marriage to Sandra Pederson in Montevideo, Minnesota. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, fishing and watching wrestling.

David is survived by his sons, Michael (Renee) Anderson and their children, Austin, Mariah, Derek and Easton all of Ankeny, and Troy (Pam) Anderson and their children, Brayden, Chase and Tanner all of Farley and several siblings.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Sandra.

PHYLLIS LOUISE SCHILLING
December 27, 1929 - November 16, 2013

Phyllis Louise Schilling, 83, of Clarion, Iowa, passed away Saturday November 16, 2013 at the Clarion Wellness and Rehabilitation Center.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, November 22, 2013 at 10:30am at the First United Methodist Church in Clarion. Fellowship with family will be one hour prior to services at the church.

Phyllis Louise Buchman was born December 27, 1929 to Harold and Agnes (McNitt) Buchman in Springbrook, Wisconsin.

She was united in marriage to Francis Sherman Schilling on June 11, 1949 in Lindstrom, Minnesota. Phyllis enjoyed parades, gardening, canning, baking, watching baseball on television, babies and spending time with her family. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Clarion and participated in Rebekahs and TOPS.

Phyllis is survived by 6 children: Mark (Zelene) Schilling, Debra Reyes, Penny (Jim) Munday, Diane Shores and partner Wade Roberts, Kris Schilling and fiancé Sue Dahlstrom, and Karen (Mike) Cmelik; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren; brothers, Howard and Ed (Janelle) Buchman; and sisters, Marlene (Marv) Goetz, Maxine (Neal) Rydberg, and Janette Wessel.

She was preceded in death by her husband Francis Schilling; parents Harold and Agnes Buchman, and step-mother, Virginia Buchman; brothers Delphin, Vernon and Orville Buchman; sisters Norma Murphy and Eleanor Lindstrom; and grandson Garrett Roberts.
