Nadine Walrod

Nadine L. Walrod, 78, of Belmond, died on Friday, July 3, 2009, at the
Muse-Norris Hospice in Mason City.
Services were held on
Tuesday, July 14 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Belmond,
with Pastor Troy Pflibsen officiating. Burial will be held
later in the Belmond Cemetery.
Nadine was born on February 25, 1931 in rural Belmond, the
daughter of Oren and Mona (Jenison) Hanson. She graduated
from the Belmond High School in 1949 and married Dale J.
Walrod on May 20, 1949 in Mason City. They resided in
Belmond, Clarion, Norwalk, Oelwein, Ankeny and Spirit Lake.
Nadine worked a variety of jobs, ranging from detasseler,
clerk, office receptionist and homemaker. But her main
"career priority" always remained that of wife, mother, and
later on, grandma and great-grandma.
Nadine was a member of
Trinity Lutheran, where she was active in delivering Meals
on Wheels with Dale. Nadine was very proud of her Norwegian
heritage and took great pride in preparing her Norsk
recipes, especially almond cake and kringla.
Nadine was preceded in death by her parents; and brother,
Roger.
Nadine is survived by her husband; son, Tim (Diane) Walrod
of Hanlontown; daughter, Faith (Dennis) Hoyer of Sabula;
grandchildren, Chris (Amy) Hoyer of Des Moines, Mikan (Phil)
Sheldon of Algonquin, Illinois, Cory (Michelle) Hoyer of
Estherville, Erica (Anthony) Felky of Preston and Lyndsay
(Mathew) Schulz of Highlands Ranch, Colorado;
step-grandchildren, Alissa Gomez of Hanlontown, Angie Gomez
of Lake Mills, Dan Lloyd of Helena, Montana and Alanna
(Jordan) Davison of Plymouth; and nine great-grandchildren.

Juanita Crapser

Juanita Crapser, 98, died on Saturday, July 11, 2009, at the
Belmond Health Care Center.
A memorial service will be
held on Saturday, August 1, at 10:30 a.m., at the St. John
Lutheran Church in Belmond. Lunch at the church will follow
for the family. The Dugger Funeral Home is handling the
arrangements.
Juanita Emma was born on January 26, 1911, the daughter of
William and Anna DeVreis of Chapin. Her brothers and sister
were Jerry (Juren), William and Anna. Known as Swanita by
family, she worked on the family farm. She met her future
husband, Glen Crapser, in Sheffield and married him on
January 26, 1930 at the Salem Lutheran Church in Albert Lea.
Juanita became the loving mother of Richard in June 1931.
She witnessed the robbery of the First National Bank in
Mason City by John Dillinger on March 13, 1934. They moved
to Belmond in 1934 and were active members of the community.
She worked as a steam presser and seamstress in the local
cleaners for many years. In 1967, after the tornado took
their home, Juanita assisted Glen in framing and raising a
new home.
Glen and Juanita enjoyed trailer camping with family and
friends. They often traveled by car in Iowa or to California
and Minnesota to visit family. Juanita and Glen celebrated
their 76th anniversary in January 2006. Juanita was a member
of the St. John's Lutheran Church, the ladies Bible study
group and social committee.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2006 and son in
2005.
Juanita is survived by her daughter-in-law, Jackie of La
Habra, California; grandsons, Craig (Karen) of Boise, Idaho
and Mark of La Habra; and great-grandsons, David, Aaron and
Kevin.

Patrick Parker
July 22, 2009
Patrick W. Parker, 61, died on Sunday, July 5, 2009, due to
complications from cancer surgery.
Services were held on
Friday, July 10, at the Holy Apostles Catholic Church in
Colorado Springs, Colorado, with Father Paul Wicker
officiating. A private inurnment was held.
Patrick was born in Iowa City on April 29, 1948, the eldest
of six sons born to Belmond native Maj. William A. Parker (USAF
retired) and the late Anne (Evans) Parker. He was a resident
of Colorado Springs for over forty-five years. Patrick was a
1966 graduate of the Harrison High School and a 1970
graduate of the University of Iowa. From 1972-1993 he taught
for the Harrison School District No. 2 at Centennial and
Giberson Elementary, and Harrison High Schools. He was a
highly revered teacher and had a very unique teaching style.
Due to Pat's Irish sense of humor and personality, he was
able to motivate and inspire many of his students to reach
for higher goals.
Pat is survived by his father, Bill of Colorado Springs;
step-mother, June; brothers, Michael (Carol), Shaun (Julie),
Kevin (Holly), Kelly and Casey; four step-sisters; and two
step-brothers.

Harry Hayner
July 22, 2009
Harry E. Hayner, 79, of Klemme, died of cancer on Monday,
July 13, 2009, at the Hospice of North Iowa in Mason City.
Harry's wishes were to be cremated and he also wanted no
formal service. Because of his love of fishing, the family
held a "Fish in Memory of Harry" event on
Saturday, July 18, at the
Eldred Sherwood Park east of Goodell. The family invited
people to come and visit and bring a fishing pole. Food,
refreshments and worms were provided.
Harry Edward grew up in the Cody, Wyoming area and did
various jobs. He worked for Winnebago Industries the past 17
years. He loved to fish, read, hunt, and be with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Edward and
Virginia (Tayler) Hayner; his first wife, Shirley (Whitney)
Hayner; brothers, Glen and Gordon Hayner; and
brother-in-law, Dale Humphrey.
Survivors include his wife, Arlene of Klemme; children, Mark
(Marie) Hayner of Forest City, Melanie (David) Perry of
Ankeny, Kristie Hayner of Klemme and Kim (Jon) Jensen of
Charles City; grandchildren, Tyler and Jordan of Ankeny;
brother, Frank (Barbara) Hayner of Cody; and sisters,
Harriet Humphrey and Caroline (Dwight) Trumbell of Cody and
Katie (Jerry) Kuchera of Farmington, New Mexico.

Roy Ahlstrom

Roy C. Ahlstrom, 92, formerly of the Belmond area, died on
Saturday, July 18, 2009, at the St. Luke's Medical Center in
Cedar Rapids.
Services will be held at
1:30 p.m., on Thursday, July 23, at the Andrews Funeral Home
in Belmond, with burial in the Belmond Cemetery.
