Arleigh Dean Halvorson, 65, of Northwood, died on Saturday
March 3, 2007, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday March 7, at 2:00
p.m., at the Conner Colonial Chapel, Northwood, with Rev.
Barbara Willis of the First Lutheran Church
officiating. Interment will be in the South Shell Rock
Cemetery, Northwood.
Arleigh was born on June 30, 1941 in Northwood, Iowa, the
son of Olaf and Selma (Turvold) Halvorson.
He is survived by one sister, Helen Mueller and her husband,
Eugene of Manly; two nieces; and three nephews.

LaVern Walk
March 7, 2007
LaVern Arthur Walk 83, of Grafton, died on Saturday March 3,
2007, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday,
March 7, at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Grafton, with
Reverend Wayne and Ami Irmgard Ellingson
officiating. Interment will be in the Grafton Cemetery, with
full military honors conducted by members of the Grafton
American Legion Post 616.
Visitation was held on Tuesday from 4-6:00 p.m., at the
Bride Colonial Chapel, Manly. There will be one hour of
visitation prior to the funeral service at the church on
Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to
the Emmanuel Lutheran Church or the Hospice of North Iowa.
LaVern Arthur Walk, was born on October 25, 1923 in Grafton,
the son of Alfred and Katie (Rademaker) Walk. He graduated
from the Grafton High School. LaVern enlisted in the United
States Navy, serving in the Pacific during WWII. He was
stationed in Columbus, Ohio, where he was a navy mechanic,
later being honorably discharged. There he met Thelma
McCarley, and they were united in marriage on October 6,
1946, in Galiapolis, Ohio. To this union three daughters
were born.
LaVern and Thelma moved to Grafton in 1947, and there he
took over his Dad's machine shop, later working for
Moorman's Feed Company until his retirement. LaVern
continued to work for Worth County Mutual Insurance Company
until the time of his death.
LaVern loved fishing, golfing, hunting, and traveling,
especially taking family trips to Minnesota. His greatest
love was spending time with his family and friends. He was a
lifetime member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church and the
Grafton American Legion Post 616.
LaVern is survived by his wife, Thelma Walk of Grafton;
daughters, Jackie (David) Fandel of Mason City, Jeanine Walk
of Apple Valley, Minnesota and Connie Sue (Tony) Oliver of
Coeur d' Alene, Idaho; grandchildren, Nicole (Eric) Umbarger
of Grimes, Shae Fandel and fiancée, J. J. Thompson of
Johnston, Aubrey Marsh and Brian Oliver, both of Coeur d'
Alene, Idaho; great-grandchildren, Lindzie, Sydney, Jacob,
and Grace Umbarger; one brother, Rueben (Maxine) Walk of
Grafton; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives
and friends.
LaVern was preceded in death by his parents; brothers,
Ernie, Ray and Orland Walk; and one sister, Irene Homes.

Curtis Reyerson
March 21, 2007
Curtis E. Reyerson, age 79, of
Northwood, died on Friday, March 16, 2007, at the Albert Lea
Medical Center.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, March 20, at
the Bayview/Freeborn
Funeral Home in Albert Lea. Rev. Randy Baldwin officiated. Interment was in the Silver Lake Cemetery, with Military
Honors accorded by the area Veterans Organizations. Visitation was from 4–7:00 p.m.,
on Monday at Bayview.
Curtis Elmer Reyerson, was born on May 4, 1927, to Henry C. and
Palma E. (Bendickson) Reyerson in Hartland Township, Worth
County, Iowa. He grew up in Iowa and farmed with his father
before serving in the United States Army from 1945–1947. After his discharge, Curtis purchased a dump truck and
hauled asphalt.
On January 1, 1958, he was united in
marriage to Maxine O. Christenson in Clark County, Nevada. Curtis married Sharon A. Cafourek
on November 19, 1973, in
Minnehaha County, South Dakota.
He was a member of the
Northwood VFW and Silver Lake Lutheran Church. Curtis
enjoyed working in his shop, driving his trucks, working
outdoors, and dancing – he had taken “Arthur Murray” dance
classes. He especially loved spending time with his
grandchildren.
Survivors include his children, Bob Diaz of Georgia,
Lucy (Jeff) Paulson of Albert Lea, Daniel (Jodi) Reyerson of
Cedar Falls, Iowa, Ronald Reyerson and his significant
other, Denise Jacobson of Albert Lea, Kim (David) Kilian of
Waseca, Donald (Susan) Reyerson of Atlantic, Iowa, Chris
(Marie) Reyerson of Grand Rapids and Angela (Kristian)
Omicioli of Providence, Rhode Island; 23 grandchildren; and
four great-grandchildren; brothers, Hank, Bob, Dean and
Duane; sisters, Pearl and Jane; and many nieces and nephews.
Curtis was preceded in death by his parents; daughters,
Vickie, Rebecca and Mary Lou; brothers, Herb, LeRoy, and
Judean; and sisters, Margie and Lorraine.

Beverly Braught
March 21, 2007
Beverly A. Braught, 70, of Charles City, died on Saturday,
March 17, 2007, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in
Charles City.
Funeral services were held at 10:30
a.m., on Tuesday, at the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church
in Charles City. Pastors David Werges and Dennis Niezwaag
officiated. Burial was in the Sunset Rest Cemetery in
Northwood. Visitation was at 9:00 a.m., on Tuesday, at the church.
Beverly Anne Braught, was born on September 30, 1936, the daughter
of Loran and Dorothy (Thoen) Braught at Des Moines. Her
early childhood was spent in Northwood. She enjoyed working
at the Treasure Chest, Comp Systems Building 3, and
competing in the Special Olympics.
Beverly was a member of the
Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Her interests
included, going to the Treasure Chest, shopping, sewing on
plastic canvas, watching Lawrence Welk and spending time
with her family.
Living family members include a sister, Pat (Dennis)
Petersen of Charles City; two brothers, Mark Davey of
Zimmerman, Minnesota and Mike (Mary) Davey of Northwood;
several nieces and nephews and cousins including, special
cousin, Linda Thoen of Clear Lake; nieces, Julie Baldwin and
her children, Kaytie, Zac and Madeline; Kathie Baldwin and
her son Alex; Melissa Davey of Cambridge, Massachusetts; Callie Davey and Cassidy Davey of Zimmerman, Minnesota; and her family
at the 9th Street Group Home and special friends at Comp
Systems.
She was preceded in death by her father, Loran in 1937; her
mother and step-father, Dorothy and Ike Davey; and two brothers,
Jim and Thomas Davey.
The Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City was in charge of the
arrangements.

Flossie Douglas
March 28, 2007
Flossie E. Douglas, 95, formerly of Manly, passed away on
Saturday, December 16, 2006, in Kansas City, Missouri,
surrounded by her loving family.
A memorial in Flossie’s honor will be held at 2:00 p.m., on
Saturday March 31, 2007, at the New Bethel Baptist Church,
Manly, Iowa. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the
2:00 p.m. memorial service.
Flossie was born on August 6, 1911, in Fordyce, Arkansas, to
the union of William and Pearlie Barnett. Flossie was a life
long resident of Manly until her health declined. In 2005,
Flossie’s great-nieces, Kimberly and LeSondra moved her to
Kansas City to be near family members.
Flossie received Christ at an early age and was a faithful
and devoted member of the New Bethel Baptist Church in Manly
for many, many years, where she served as church financial
secretary until her health began to fail. Flossie received
her formal education in Glendale, California.
In 1942, Flossie was united in marriage to Cecil F. Douglas
and the couple farmed north of Manly for 27 years, retiring
in 1974 and built a home in Manly.
As a young girl Flossie loved to play baseball, she was in a
baseball league where she played ball and traveled all over
northern Iowa. In later years she enjoyed baseball games on
TV and radio.
Flossie and her husband, Cecil worked as a team at the
Crystal Sugar Beet Plant in Manly during the winter’s
months. Flossie and Cecil delivered meals on wheels to
senior citizens.
Flossie was a member of the Highlight Women’s Club. She
enjoyed quilting and designed a quilt naming it the “The
Texas Star”. The quilt was exhibited all over Iowa for two
years. Flossie was a seamstress. She enjoyed fishing,
gardening, and ceramics. Flossie was a superb cook, and
loved to entertain and everyone was always welcome to her
house for a home cooked meal. In essence, Flossie was the
ultimate hostess.
Flossie was preceded in death by her beloved and devoted
husband of 45 years Cecil F. Douglas; her parents, William &
Pearlie Barnett; and her two brothers, Theauthus (Boss Man)
Barnett and Lewis Macon (Buddy) Barnett.
Left to cherish Flossie’s memory is her nephew, Leon V.
(Marilyn) Barnett; her nieces, Pearl Reevers and Patsy Ray;
great-grand-nieces and nephews, Lisa (Hulon) Forbush,
Kimberly (Dwight) Barnett Terrell, Brigitte (Keith) Barnett
Loftis, LeSondra (Brian) Barnett Hollowell, Deandre (Shauntae)
Barnett, DeNikka Barnett, William Walker, Pamela Walker,
Leslie Ray, Lois Martin, Charlotte (Dennis) Allen, Verna
Smith, Tom (Ann) Douglas and Marla Douglas; sisters-in-law,

Donald Harmon
March 28, 2007
Donald Kenneth Harmon, passed away peacefully on Monday,
March 19, 2007, in a hospice facility in Goodyear, Arizona,
after a long battle with COPD.
Don was born in Joice, on May 30, 1933, to Pauline (Aasland)
and Emlet Harmon. He was the oldest of nine children.
Don graduated from the Northwood High School in 1952 and
lived in Lake Mills with his uncle, Elmer Harmon. He married
Durene Grube on November 6, 1954.
He soon joined the Navy as a radio man aboard an aircraft
carrier and served four years during the end of the Korean
War. He was based in San Diego and received the honor man
award. Don spent the majority of his working life as a
manufacturers rep in the electronics industry. He lived in
Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Burnsville, Minnesota, Virginia and in
1990, moved to the Phoenix area.
He enjoyed golfing, boating, travel, cribbage and bridge.
Don was preceded in death by his mother and father; brother,
Dean; and sister, Pat.
Don is survived by wife, Durene; former Northwood resident,
daughter, Deborah and her husband, Eric of Phoenix, Arizona
and their son, Michael; son, Darin and his wife, Teri of
Dubuque, Iowa and their daughters, Emily, Allison and
Olivia. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Lois Bergo
of Northwood; special uncle, Elmer Harmon of Lake Mills;
brothers, Darrell, Duaine, Dick, Dave and Greg; sister,
Doreen; and many other relatives including cousins, nephews
and nieces. In addition, he leaves behind a very good friend
who was more like a brother, Jerry Jorgenson of Northwood.
In spite of health problems, Don continued to be active in
his community as a golf ranger until approximately four
years ago. He fought a good fight. He was the epitome of
life, laugh and love. He will be missed immensely.

Merle Aase
March 28, 2007
Merle B. Aase, 77, of Northwood, died on Sunday, March 25,
2007, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason
City, after a 1 1/2 year struggle with pancreatic cancer.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 28, at
11:00 a.m., at the First Lutheran Church, Northwood, with
Rev. Barbara Wills officiating. Burial will be in the South
Shell Rock Cemetery, Northwood. Visitation was on Tuesday
from 5-8:00 p.m., at the Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home,
Northwood, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Merle was born on December 31, 1929, in Albert Lea,
Minnesota, to Fred and Inga (Kittleson) Aase. He attended
and graduated from the Northwood High School in 1948. On
October 3, 1948, he married Sally Ryan of Albert Lea. He was
employed at Worth Mutual Ins. Co. for 36 years.
Merle was an avid Hawkeye fan and always loved going to the
Northwood High School games.
Merle was a member of the First Lutheran Church and Men's'
Lutheran Brotherhood, South Shell Rock Lutheran Cemetery
Board, the Quarterback Club, Northwood Jaycees, the Albert
Lea Elks Club 813, Northwood Country Club and served as PA
announcer for the Northwood football games for a number of
years.
Merle was proud of his two sons and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Steven Aase;
and foster brother, Gaylord Nelson.
Merle is survived by his wife, Sally of Northwood; son,
Larry and wife, Jackie of Port Townsend, Washington;
daughter-in-law, Sharon Aase of Northwood; grandchildren,
Lauren and Joe Aase and Debra McDole of Marshalltown, Iowa;
great-grandchildren, Nathaniel and Natasha McDole of
Marshalltown; sister, Sandra and husband, Chet Eisenman of
Britt, Iowa; nieces, Kristie (Brad) McKinney of Mesa, AR and
their two children, Ryan and Andrea, Jolene (Marcus) Bruns
and their two children, Bennett and Carlee; and nephew,
Kevin (Michelle) Eisenman all of Britt and their children,
Chase, Madison and Rhett.
The Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home of Northwood was in

Lloyd "Jack"
Perkins

Lloyd "Jack" Perkins, 85, of Northwood, died on Sunday,
March 25, 2007, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit,
Mason City, Iowa.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, March 29, at 11:00
a.m., at the Deer Creek Lutheran Church, Carpenter, Iowa,
with Rev. Lance Kittleson officiating. Burial was in the
Sunset Rest Cemetery, Northwood. Visitation was on
Wednesday, from 5-8:00 p.m., at the Schroeder & Sites
Funeral Home, Northwood, and one hour prior to the service
at the church. The Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home of
Northwood is in charge of the arrangements.
Jack was born in Deer Creek Township, Worth County, Iowa on
January 21, 1922, the son of Clifford and Ida (Johnson)
Perkins. He received his education at Otranto, Iowa,
graduating in 1939. Jack married Irma Seuser on November 22,
1944 at the First Lutheran Church in Glenville, Minnesota.
To them, two sons were born, Larry "Butch" of Northwood and
David of Des Moines.
Jack enjoyed playing baseball, softball, bowling, golf and
cards. He and Irma oversaw daily operations of the Deer
Creek 4-H Foodstand for 34 years. They farmed in Deer Creek
Township until his retirement in 1989, when they moved to
Northwood. He was a member of the Deer Creek Lutheran
Church, Carpenter, his entire life.
The love of his life was his family who survive him, his
wife, Irma; sons, Larry and David; three grandchildren, Gina
(Jeremy) Solberg, Heather (Tory) Rheingans, Landon Perkins
and his fiancée, Jessica Hertle; one great-granddaughter,
Mallory Rheingans; a special daughter-in-law, Pam; one
sister, Mildred James; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Perkins,
Margaret (Lyle) Krumm, Lillian Loland and Ardis (Allan)
Hanson; and many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

Jerry
"Pickle" Pixley

Jerry L. (Pickle) Pixley, 62, of Northwood, died on Tuesday,
March 27, 2007, at his home in Northwood.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 31, at 10:30
a.m., at the First Lutheran Church, Northwood, with Rev.
Barbara Wills officiating. Burial was in the State Line
Cemetery, rural Northwood. Visitation was on Friday, from
5-7:00 p.m., at the Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home,
Northwood, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Jerry was born on December 30, 1944, to John W. and Lillian
I. (Anderson) Pixley. He was baptized in February 1945 and
confirmed in May 1959, at the First Lutheran Church,
Northwood, where he was a life time member. Jerry attended
school at the Deer Creek Country School until the third
grade. He was a member of the N-K Class of 1962. During his
school years he worked for Bliss Swensrud farming.
Jerry married Fran Hendrickson of Albert Lea, Minnesota on
August 18, 1962, at the First Lutheran Church, Northwood,
and to this union two children were born, a son, Todd and a
daughter, Tammy.
Jerry was a long time member of the Northwood Fire and
Rescue Company, the Northwood Booster Club, Men's Volleyball
League, softball league and several bowling leagues. He was
also an avid fisherman and enjoyed camping with family and
friends. He looked forward to his annual fishing trip to
North Long Lake by Brainerd, Minnesota.
Jerry farmed for four years for Alfred Swensrud east of
Northwood, leaving in 1967 to work at the CO-OP Elevator in
Carpenter. In 1970 he started working for the Worth County
Road Maintenance Crew, which he did for 36 years, retiring
June 30, 2006. Jerry's biggest pride was his four
grandchildren, Dustin, Seth, Lauren and Brandon, always
giving them his undivided attention.
Jerry was preceded in death by a sister, Sandra in infancy;
his father, John in 1997; grandfather, Glenn Pixley;
maternal grandparents, Helmer and Lena (Legaard) Anderson;
and two brother-in-laws, Gerald and Robert Hendrickson.
He will be sadly missed by his wife Fran; son, Todd of
Austin, Minnesota, his two sons, Dustin Pixley of Mason City
and Seth Pixley of Grafton; his daughter, Tammy (Scott)
Severson and their two children, Lauren and Brandon of
Northwood; mother, Lillian Pixley of Northwood; sister,
Sharon Peterson of Mason City; brothers, Dennis Pixley of
Plymouth, Minnesota, Earl Pixley of Chicago, Illinois, Mike
Pixley of Palmdale, California and Galen Pixley of
Northwood; grandmother, Beva Mae Pixley of Northwood;
sister-in-laws, Barb (Jim) Hayden of Cottage Grove,
Minnesota, Saralynn (Don) Williamson of Conyers, Georgia and
Darlene Hendrickson of Albert Lea, Minnesota; and many
nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles and his beloved dog, "Mitzie".

Marcella Anderson

Marcella Anderson, 85, of Northwood, died on Saturday, March
31, 2007, at the Viking Manor.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Wednesday,
April 4, at the Elk Creek Lutheran Church, with Rev. Tom
Martin officiating. Burial will be in the Elk Creek
Cemetery. Visitation was held from 4-6:00 p.m., on Tuesday,
at the Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, Northwood.
Marcella was born on April 30, 1921, in rural Kensett, the
daughter of Joseph and Eva (McHenry) Bosch. She was baptized
at the Sacred Heart Church in Manly. Marcella attended
school in Kensett. She was a member of her high school band,
which participated in the first "Band Festival" in Mason
City. She graduated in 1939 from the Kensett High School.
Marcella was united in marriage to Alvin Anderson on
February 17, 1950, at the home of her parents. They fanned
in rural Kensett until Alvin retired in 1972, due to failing
health. They moved to a house in Northwood.
Marcella was a long-time member of the Elk Creek Lutheran
Church. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School. Marcella worked
at B & K Lumber in Northwood for several years. She served
on the Lutheran Retirement Home Board.
She enjoyed playing cards, board games, cooking and baking,
getting together with her family and friends, especially
during the holidays.
Survivors include her sisters-in-law, Margaret Sigmond of
Northwood and Lynnea (Bosch) Smith of Mason City; nephew,
Lonnie Bosch and wife, Kim of Rockwell; nieces, Deborah
(Bosch) McDonald and husband, Del of Weslaco, Texas, Lori
(Bosch) Sprung and husband, Theodore of Swaledale, Sheri
(Bosch) Sprung and husband, Charles of Mason City and Julie
(Bosch) Hansen and husband, Michael of Rockwell;
great-nephews, Bob Bosch and wife, Deborah of Rockford,
Joseph Sprung of Swaledale, Jonathan and Jordan Hansen of
Rockwell and Ethan and Evan Sprung of Mason City;
great-nieces, Krystle Bosch and fiancée, Adam Allison of
Meridian, Idaho, Rebecca (Sprung) Rother and husband, Ryan
of Latimer and Michaela Hansen of Rockwell;
great-great-nephews, Nathaniel and Alexander Bosch of
Rockford; great-great-niece, Rose Rother of Latimer; plus
too many other relatives and special friends to mention.
