Lucile Low

Bernice L. Low, age 87, of Albert Lea, Minnesota, died on
Friday, February 9, 2007, at Thorne-Crest Retirement Center.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday,
February 13, 2007, at the Central Freeborn Lutheran
Church. Pastor Linda Gunderson officiated. Burial was held
after a luncheon in the Sunset Rest Cemetery,
Northwood. Visitation was on Monday from 5-7:00 p.m., at the
Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the
services.
Bernice Lucile Low, was born on March 1, 1919 in Clear Lake,
Iowa, the daughter of Jerry and Dorothy (Ball) Juhl. She
attended rural schools in Iowa and on May 20, 1937, she was
united in marriage to Vale L. Low in Mason City and was
blessed with three daughters, Janiece, Sandy and Cindy.
The couple farmed in Osage and Northwood, Iowa, Clarks Grove
and Emmons. Bernice enjoyed baking, gardening, flowers and
spending time with her family and many grandchildren.
She was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church and then
Central Freeborn Lutheran Church.
Bernice is survived by her daughters, Janiece Quam and Sandy
(Joe) Becker both of Albert Lea and Cindy Budach of
Owatonna, sisters and brothers-in-law, Luella Low of Clear
Lake, Eleanor Low, Dorothy Low, Pat Low, Allen and wife,
Deloris Low, Drexell and wife, Bernice Estes and Richard and
wife, Marge Low all of Northwood, Iowa, Dorothy Juhl and
Mary Juhl both of Waterloo, Iowa; grandchildren, Jeff Quam
and Charlotte Haukoos, Scott (Carol) Quam, Steve (Karen)
Quam, Lori (Jeff) Miller, Jon Quam, Craig (Kim) Quam, Lisa
(Jerry) Olson, Angie (Keith) Flatness, Kirk Siemer, Becky
(Brian) Haberman, Mike (LeeAnne) Budach and Shari (Corey)
Mensink; and 27 great-grandchildren.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vale;
sons-in-law, C. Paul Quam and David Budach;
great-granddaughter, Amy Quam; and numerous brothers and
sisters.

Frances Walser
February 14, 2007
Frances A. Walser, age 79, of Northwood, died on Sunday,
February 11, 2007, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit
in Mason City, after a courageous three and one half year
battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Thursday,
February 15, at the Northwood United Methodist
Church, Northwood, with Rev. Robert Cumings
officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Rest Cemetery,
Northwood. The family will greet friends on Wednesday, from
4-7:00 p.m., at the Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home,
Northwood.
Frances A. Culbertson, was born on June 20, l927 in
Carpenter, Iowa to Norris and Lela Adams Culbertson. She
graduated from the Carpenter High School on May 17, 1944, at
the age of 16 and later attended Hamilton Business College
in Mason City. She was employed for two years in the
business offices of Iowa State College, Ames and later in
Mason City.
She married Ernest Walser on February 28, 1948, at the Deer
Creek Lutheran Church, Carpenter, Iowa. They enjoyed
traveling to all 50 states in the U.S., Canada, several
countries abroad, and especially their 33 winters spent
together at their home in Arizona. Fran's greatest joy was
her family.
She was a member of the Northwood United Methodist Church.
Frances is survived by her two children, Dennis and wife,
Barbara Walser of Northwood and Debra and husband, Ronald
Reuvers of Primghar, Iowa; four grandchildren, Chad and
wife, Valerie Walser of Gill, Colorado, Tracie Walser of
Laguna Beach, California, Teresa and husband, Josh Bjork of
Madrid, Iowa, Kristi and husband, Todd Steinkamp of
Marshalltown, Iowa; three step-grandchildren, Jennifer
Reuvers of Moville, Iowa, Jon and wife, Dawn Reuvers of
Vermillion, South Dakota and Johana Reuvers of Brookings,
South Dakota; and one great-grandchild, Caitlin Walser Deuel
of Princeton, Minnesota; sister, June (Chuck) Low of Palm
Springs, California; sister-in-law, Ruth Martin of Mason
City; and nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Dean
and Jack Culbertson.

Leslie Holstad
March 21, 2007
Leslie Holstad, 77, died on Sunday, February 11, 2007, at the
Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City.
Memorial services were held at 2:00 p.m., on Monday, March
19, at the Elk Creek Lutheran Church, rural Kensett, with
Rev. Tom Martin officiating. Burial was in the Elk Creek
Cemetery.
Leslie was born on March 10, 1929, the son of Carl and
Myrtle (Gjere) Holstad of rural Manly. He graduated from the
Hanlontown High School in 1947. He was active in sports in
high school playing basketball and baseball. He enjoyed
being with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Arlene;
two brothers, Marvin and Maynard; one sister-in-law, Barbara
Holstad; and two brothers-in-law, Kenneth Hansen and Malcolm
Hansen.
Surviving family members include Gilma (Roger) Lenz of
Riceville, Ethel (Noble Nerhelm) Hansen of Claremont,
California, Marlene Hansen of St. Paul, Minnesota, Irwin
(Dixie) Holstad of Chandler, Arizona, Duane (Sharon) Holstad
of Kensett, and Vernon (Nancy) Holstad of Knoxville,
Tennessee; and many nieces and nephews.

Carter Hogen
March 7, 2007
After a courageous fight with multiple medical conditions,
Carter John Hogen, age 2, of Albert Lea, Minnesota, passed
away on Sunday, February 25, 2007, at the Saint Mary's
Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota. He is the son of JT Hogen
of Northwood, Iowa and Alysa Cook of Albert Lea.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., on Friday, March 2,
at the Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, Northwood, with Rev.
Wendi Gillan officiating. Visitation was held from 4-7:00
p.m., on Thursday, March l, at the funeral home.
Carter was born on January 4, 2005, in Albert Lea.
Left to cherish his memory are his great-grandparents, Liddy
Hogen of Kensett, Iowa, Mena Johnson of Northwood, Jean
Barta of Dallas, Texas, Don and June Kottwitz of Greeley,
Colorado; grandparents, Paul and Connie Hogen of Northwood,
Randy and Joy Kottwitz of Wylie, Texas; aunt and uncles,
Jacob and Melinda Moore of Lavon, Texas, Jeff and Kristin
Forester of Piano, Texas, David and Avey Seater of
Lexington, Kentucky, Jason and Melissa Seater of
Nicholasville, Kentucky; great-aunt and uncles, Orville and
Sharon Hogen of Mankato, Minnesota, Carol Hogen of Laredo,
Texas, Larry and Wendy Mallo of Mason City, LeAnne and Ward
Elwood of Ft. Worth, Texas, Frank and Sherri Autobee of
Aurora, Colorado, Terry and Carol Kottwitz of McCook
Nebraska, Rick, Ritch, and James Kottwitz of Greeley,
Colorado; as well as a very special friend, Danneka Love;
and other relatives.
The family requests that memorials go to the Ronald McDonald

Westly Logeman
March 7, 2007
Westly Fred Logeman, 79, of Northwood, died on Sunday,
February 25, 2007, at the Lutheran Retirement Home in
Northwood.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., on Saturday, March
3, at the Northwood Baptist Church, Northwood, with Reverend
Robert W. Luebbert officiating. Burial was in the Memorial
Park Cemetery, Mason City. Visitation was held from 5-7:00
p.m., on Wednesday, February 28, at the Conner Colonial
Chapel, Northwood. Visitation will also be held one hour
prior to service time on Thursday at the church.
Westly Fred Logeman, was born on March 19, 1927 in rural
Manly, the son of Fred and Ruth (Godfrey) Logeman. He
received his education in the rural Manly country
schools. After his schooling, Westly helped his parents on
the family farm in rural Manly.
He was united in marriage to Ruby Pine on June 1, 1947, in
Mason City. After their marriage they moved north of Mason
City where they began farming. They also farmed at different
locations in the North Iowa area for many years. Westly
began driving truck for Carroll George Inc. in Northwood as
well as working part time for the Worth County CO-OP in
Northwood.
He enjoyed horses, fishing, having coffee with his friends
at the Corner Post Restaurant in Northwood, and being with
his friends and family.
He was a member of the Northwood Baptist Church in Northwood
and former member of the Izaak Walton League in Kensett.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Ruby Logeman of
Northwood; children, Karen Feddersen of Charles City, Betty
Matz and her husband, Claude of Vancouver, Washington, Cindy
Dirks and her husband, John of Mason City and Don Logeman
and his wife, Martina of Mason City; nine grandchildren;
three step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a
sister, Vivian Balek and her husband, Jim of Mason City; as
well as other relatives and friends.
Westly was preceded in death by his parents; a sister and
brother-in-law, Vera Mae and Frank Waychus.

John Matteson
March 7, 2007
John H. Matteson, 62, of Clear Lake, Iowa, died on Monday,
February 26, 2007, at home with his family after a year long
battle with pancreatic cancer.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 2, at 10:00
a.m., at the Clear Lake United Methodist Church, with
Reverend Diana Hoover officiating. Interment will be in the
Clear Lake Cemetery. Military honors will be presented by
the Clear Lake V.F.W. Visitation will be on Thursday, from
5–7:30 p.m., at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel. In lieu
of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to
Hospice of North Iowa, the American Cancer Society or the
Clear Lake United Methodist Church.
John Hendley Matteson, was born on September 16, 1944 in
Morris, Illinois, the son of Hendley and Elsie (Johnson)
Matteson. He graduated from the Morris High School in 1962
and The University of Illinois in 1966. After college he was
drafted and served in the Army from 1966-1968, spending a
year in Vietnam in the Veterinary Corp.
John was employed by Hormel Foods as a consultant in the
Feed Division. Prior to that he owned and operated Northwood
Feed and Farm Supply in Northwood, Iowa.
In his free time, John enjoyed golfing, building and flying
model airplanes and vegetable gardening. He also spent
countless hours watching sports and placed many a friendly
wager on the Cubs, Bears and Fighting Illini. John enjoyed
cooking, grilling, and was well known for his rhubarb pie.
John was an active member of the River City Radio Control
for over 20 years. He was a member of the Clear Lake V.F.W.
and the Clear Lake United Methodist Church.
John is survived by his wife of 23 years, Merri (Edgar)
Matteson; daughter, Julia Hill and her husband, Jon of Fort
Worth, Texas; his son, Joel Matteson and Erin Thompson of
Baltimore, Maryland; two brothers, Jim Matteson and his
wife, Ginny of Mazon, Illinois and Dave Matteson and his
wife, Candy also of Mazon, Illinois.
John was preceded in death by his parents; and three
sisters.
