Marian Frazier

Marian
Frazier, 67, of Northwood, died
on Monday, October 7, 2002, at
her home.
Funeral services
were held on Thursday, at the
Faith Baptist Church, Albert
Lea, with Pastor Dennis Seiler
officiating. The Schroeder &
Sites Funeral Home, Northwood,
was in charge of the
arrangements.
Marian was born
in Hurley, Iowa, on February 2,
1935, the daughter of Levi and
Berniece (Bird) Brown. She
accepted Jesus as her personal
Savior at Bible Camp at the age
of 14. She graduated from the
Mason City High School and
obtained her teaching
certificate from Mason City
Junior College. She married
Leonard Frazier on June 18, 1955
in Mason City. After a few years
in Florida and Georgia, where
Leonard was stationed in the
Navy, they moved to rural
Northwood in 1957.
She loved her
life on the farm, being
outdoors, caring for her
flowers, gardening and canning
and taking care of her family.
She was very involved in the
ministries of the church
including teaching Sunday
School, Bible studies, Bible
School, singing, artwork and
loved taking pictures of every
occasion. She had the gift of
encouragement to the many people
that her life touched. Her life
was lived for the glory of the
Lord.
Survivors include
her husband, Leonard and her six
children, Kathy Watney and her
husband, Gary and children,
Amber and Sarah of Albert Lea,
Minnesota, Brenda Higgins and
her husband, Jeff of Eden
Prairie, Minnesota, Jane Frazier
and her daughter, Hannah of
Oakdale, Minnesota, Carolyn Park
and her husband, Danny and
children, Lindsay and Jamie of
Blooming Prairie, Minnesota,
Mark Frazier and his wife, Jane
and children, John, Justin,
Jessica and Jared of Rogers,
Minnesota, Laura Timmerman and
her husband, Troy and son,
Spenser of Blue Earth,
Minnesota; three sisters, Janet
Sellick and her husband, Brent
of South San Francisco,
California, Margaret Hulst and
her husband, Allister of
Waltham, Minnesota and Bonnie
Peterson and her husband, Vernon
of Forest City; her brother,
Robert Brown and his wife, Becky
of Elkhart, Indiana; and many
sisters-in-law and
brothers-in-law and many nieces
and nephews.
She was preceded
in death by her parents; her
brother, Rev. James Brown and
his wife, Laveen.
She was a devoted
and loving wife, mother and
grandmother. She will be deeply
missed.

Ronald Lee Voss

Ronald Lee Voss,
67, of Branson, Missouri, died
on Wednesday, October 9, 2002,
at his home.
Funeral services
were held on Sunday, at the WSA
Corp., Branson, West Missouri.
Elder Wayne Starr officiated.
Interment will be at a later
date.
He was born on
January 16, 1935 in Champaign,
Illinois, the son of Gilbert and
Naomi Rowe Voss. He married
Carol Gayle Glover on February
3, 1957. Ron had a long career
in radio and worked in several
midwestern states. For the past
10 years he has worked for the
WSA Corp. He was secretary and a
member of the board of directors
for the Larry Simmering Recovery
Center in Branson. He was also a
U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include
his wife, Gay; three daughters,
Leesa Carol and A.J. LeBlanc of
Branson, Tressa Renea and Reesa
Marion of Kansas City; one
grandson; brother, Gary Voss and
his wife, Tink of Rossville,
Florida; brother-in-law, Wesley
Glover and his wife, Fredna of
Milford, Florida;
sisters-in-law, Betty Voss of
Springfield, Missouri, Joy Wood
and her husband, Roger of
Columbus, Ohio and True Glover
of Watseka, Florida; many nieces
and nephews; special friends,
Cindy Zakovich and Sherri
Eberhart of Kansas City and
Larry Lugenbell of Branson.
He was preceded
in death by his parents; and his
brothers, Jack and Robert.

Lillian E. Furleigh
October 15, 2002
Lillian
E. Furleigh, 88, of Northwood,
died on Thursday, October 10,
2002, at the Lutheran Retirement
Home, Northwood.
Lillian E.
Furleigh, was born on November
24, 1913 at Bolan, Iowa, a
daughter of Marse and Bertina
(Espland) Larson. She married
Lee Dawson Furleigh on April 1,
1933 at Decorah, Iowa.
Lillian was a
graduate of the Kensett High
School, Kensett. She lived in
Norfolk, Virginia from 1943-71,
moving to Cedar Rapids, Iowa in
1971. Lillian returned to
Northwood in 1992 and has
resided at the Lutheran
Retirement Home since 1993.
She is survived
by a daughter, Margaret Warren
and her husband, Michael of Eden
Prairie, Minnesota; a
granddaughter, Deborah Chebetar
and her husband, Gerald of
Chesapeake, Virginia; a
great-grandson, Jason Chebetar
of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and
several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded
in death by her husband, Lee in
1967; a daughter, Bonnie Angell
in 1974; two sisters, Glenore
Jaspers and Bernice Dvorak; and
a brother, Lester Larson.
The Conner
Colonial Chapel, Northwood, was
in charge of the arrangements.

Mayme Ida Orvedal

Mayme Ida
Orvedal, 89, of Northwood, died
on Tuesday, October 15, 2002, at
the Muse-Norris Hospice
Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
Funeral services
were held on Friday, at the
First Lutheran Church,
Northwood, with Rev. Paul Holmer
and Rev. Allan Stoa officiating.
Burial was in the South Shell
Rock Cemetery in Northwood. The
Conner Colonial Chapel of
Northwood was in charge of the
arrangements.
Mayme Ida
Orvedal, was born on April 30,
1913 in Calamus, Iowa, the
daughter of John and Cora
(Bousselot) Dralla. She was
baptized on June 1, 1913, in the
German Evangelical Lutheran
Church in Clinton County, Iowa
and reaffirmed the faith of her
baptism through confirmation in
the Lutheran faith. She attended
and received her education in
the Northwood Community Schools,
graduating from the Northwood
High School in 1932.
She married John
Orvedal on February 26, 1940 in
Northwood. He preceded her in
death on June 9, 1964. After
their marriage together they
farmed in the Northwood area.
Mayme worked as a nurses aid for
many years at the Lutheran
Retirement Home in Northwood
until her retirement. After her
retirement she did volunteer
work in the community and the
church.
She enjoyed
crocheting, embroidering,
sewing, being in 4-H, flowers,
plants, music and playing the
piano. She was a member and very
active in the First Lutheran
Church, the alter guild, and
church circles in Northwood.

her memory are her children and

Ruby May Stromley

Ruby May
Stromley, 74, of Joice, died on
Tuesday, October 15, 2002, at
the Muse-Norris Hospice
Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
Funeral services
were held on Friday, at the
First Lutheran Church,
Northwood, with Rev. Paul Holmer
officiating. Burial was on
Friday at the Round Prairie
Cemetery, rural Glenville. The
Conner Colonial Chapel of
Northwood was in charge of the
arrangements.
Ruby May
Stromley, was born on January
23, 1928 in Iowa City, Iowa, the
daughter of Chris and Nelina
(Johnson) Stromley. Ruby
reaffirmed the faith of her
baptism through confirmation at
the First Lutheran Church in
Northwood. She attended and
graduated from the Fertile High
School. After completing her
schooling she worked at home
with her parents.
She loved
flowers, gardening, crocheting,
sewing, embroidering, and
keeping her home and yard up.
She was a member of the First
Lutheran Church in Northwood.
Left to cherish
her memory are her two sisters,
Myrtle Banken of Mason City and
Esther Nelson of Northwood; four
brothers, Ansley Stromley of
Joice, Kenneth Stromley of
Joice, Obert Stromley and his
wife, DeAlda of Marble Rock and
Rueben Stromley and his wife,
Helen of Mason City; numerous
nieces and nephews; special
friends, Virgil and Romaine
Lovik of Fertile, Marge Evenson
of Albert Lea, Minnesota, Thomas
Holstad of Glenville, Minnesota

relatives and friends.

Maxine Lois Kopetjka

Maxine Lois
Kopetjka, 67, of Manly, died on
Saturday, October 19, 2002, at
her home in Manly.
Memorial services
were held on Saturday, at the
Bethlehem Lutheran Church in
Manly, with Rev. Randy Nielsen
officiating. Graveside committal
services were held prior to the
memorial service at the Grafton
Cemetery. According to her
wishes her body was cremated.
Maxine Lois
Kopetjka, was born on December
16, 1934 in Mason City, the
daughter of Emil and Elizabeth (Wirtjes)
Schmidt. She was baptized and
reaffirmed the faith of her
baptism through confirmation at
the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in
Grafton. She attended and
received her education in the
Plymouth and Rock Falls Schools,
graduating from the Rock Falls
High School. Maxine also
attended and graduated with a
nursing degree from the North
Iowa Area Community College in
Mason City. After completing her
schooling Maxine worked for
Mercy Hospital for 23 years as a
nurse in the O.B. and ped's
floor, retiring due to ill
health.
She enjoyed
gardening, cooking, reading, and
handwork, but her great love and
enjoyment was her family and
grandchildren and spending time
with them. Maxine also loved and
enjoyed being very active in the
church circle at the Bethlehem
Lutheran Church in Manly.
She was a member
of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church
in Manly and the Rebecca Lodge
in Manly.
Left to cherish
her memory are her children,
Ronald Kopetjka of Grand
Prairie, Texas, Rhonda Chodur
and her husband, Richard of
Joice and Joleen Kalvig and her
husband, Bob of Manly; 10
grandchildren; three
great-grandchildren; two
brothers, Robert Schmidt and his
wife, Donna of Nora Springs and
Donald Schmidt and his wife,
Anna Jean of Hotchkiss,
Colorado; and several nieces and
nephews, as well as other
relatives and many friends.
