LaVerne
"Bud" Eugene Kirchgatter, 77, of
Mason City, formerly of
Plymouth, died on Saturday,
August 3, 2002, at the USA
Health Care Center in Mason
City.
Funeral services
were held on Tuesday, at the Old
Stone United Methodist Church in
Rock Falls, with Rev. Lisa Locoh
officiating. Burial was in the
Oakwood Cemetery in Plymouth,
with military flag presentation
and taps by the Mason City
Veterans Memorial Association.
LaVerne "Bud"
Eugene Kirchgatter, was born on
January 31, 1925 in Mitchell
County, Iowa, near St. Ansgar,
the son of Albert and Selma
(Grap) Kirchgatter. He was
baptized in the German Lutheran
Church in St. Ansgar and
reaffirmed his faith in the
Lutheran Church in Osage. He
attended and received his
education in the Carpenter
Community School. He was
inducted into the U.S. Army
serving overseas in the European
Theater during World War II.
After his honorable discharge he
moved to Mason City and married
Marilyn Aase on February 14,
1942 in Northwood. She preceded
him in death on March 17, 1992.
"Bud" drove for State Brand
Creamery in Mason City for
several years and also worked
for the Iowa Department of
Transportation. After his
retirement he drove a grain
truck for Jerry Fritz.
He enjoyed
fishing, and gardening, but his
great love and enjoyment was his
family and grandchildren.
Left to cherish
his memory is a son, Steve
Kirchgatter and his wife, Becky
of Nora Springs; a daughter, Sue
Paulson and her husband, Dennis
of Rock Falls; three
grandchildren; one
great-granddaughter; two
sisters, Ruth Brown of Waterloo
and Doris Hanson of Northwood;
one brother, Lloyd Kirchgatter
of Tracy, California; as well as
many nieces and nephews, and
other relatives and many
friends.
Besides his wife,
Marilyn; he was also preceded in
death by his parents; one
brother, Melbourne Kirchgatter;
and a sister, Alice Smith.

Ralph E. Davey
August 6, 2002
Ralph
E. Davey, 82, of Manly, died on
Saturday, August 3, 2002, at the
Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient
Unit in Mason City.
A Funeral Mass
was held on Wednesday, at the
Sacred Heart Catholic Church in
Manly, with Rev. David Kucera
officiating. Burial was in the
Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery
in Manly.
Ralph E. Davey,
was born on October 8, 1919 in
Clarion, the son of Frank and
Eleanora (Bednar) Davey. He
attended and received his
education in the Manly School
System, graduating from the
Manly High School in 1938. After
completing his schooling he
began working at the Kraus
Department Store in Manly and
also worked for the A & P
Grocery Store in Mason City. He
married Ann Barnish on October
24, 1940 in Northwood. After
their marriage they moved to
Waterloo in 1942, where Ralph
worked for the Montgomery Ward
Store and he also worked for
Rath Meat Packing Company before
moving back to Manly, where he
worked as a conductor for the
Rock Island Railroad for 39
years before his retirement in
1979. After his retirement he
worked for Pinkerton Security in
Mason City for several years.
He enjoyed
gardening, picking raspberries,
fishing, hunting, playing cards
with the senior citizens in
Plymouth, and was an avid
Hawkeye football and basketball
fan, but his great love and
enjoyment was his family and
grandchildren.
He was a member
of the Sacred Heart Catholic
Church in Manly, Plymouth Senior
Citizens, was the Secretary of
the Brotherhood of Railroad
Trainmen, and a UTU Teamsters
member.
Left to cherish
his memory is his wife, Ann
Davey of Manly; two sons, Jim
Davey and his wife, Melanie
Stancil of Knightdale, North
Carolina and Ralph Davey and his
wife, Joan of Manly; four
grandchildren; two
great-grandchildren; one
brother, William Davey and his
wife, Corrine of Gadsden,
Alabama; as well as other
relatives and many friends.
He was preceded
in death by his parents; a
daughter, Sharon Davey who died
in infancy; and a baby brother.

David Gene Budach
August 13, 2002
David Gene
Budach, 54, died on Wednesday,
August 7, 2002, in New Richland,
Minnesota.
Funeral services
were held on Saturday, August
10, at the First Congregational
Church in New Richland, with
Rev. Charles Espe and Rev. Casey
VanderBent officiating. Burial
was in the St. Peter's Cemetery.
David was born in
Mankato, Minnesota, on December
1, 1947, the son of Gene and
Mildred (Melcher) Budach. He was
a 1965 graduate of the Ellendale
High School and attended two
years at Mankato Technical
College. On March 23, 1968,
David married Cynthia Low at the
East Freeborn Lutheran Church,
Albert Lea. They are members of
the First Congregational Church,
where David was active in church
activities and was presently
serving as head Deacon.
David was
President of the Budach
Implement in New Richland. He
was a member of the New Richland
Lions Club, New Richland
Sportsman Club and the Elks. He
was an avid fisherman and deer
hunter. His family was very
important to him and time spent
with his grandchildren was
special.
David is survived
by his wife, Cynthia of New
Richland; two children, Michael
Budach and his wife, Lee Ann of
Owatonna, Minnesota and Shari
Hanson and her husband, Mark of
New Richland; three
grandchildren, Brock and Macy
Hanson and Noah Budach; parents,
Gene and Mildred Budach of New
Richland; one brother, Gary
Budach and his wife, Kris of New
Richland; two sisters, Irene
Krueger and her husband, Ralph
of New Richland and Lynn Hagen
and her husband, Steve of
Ellendale; mother-in-law,
Bernice Low of Albert Lea; two
sisters-in-law: Janiece Quam of
Emmons, Minnesota and Sandy
Becker and her husband, Joe of
Albert Lea; and nieces and
nephews.
David was
preceded in death by his
father-in-law, Vale Low; and two
brothers-in-law, Randy Knutson
and Paul Quam.

Anetta G. Groven

Anetta G. Groven,
88, of Visalia, California,
formerly of Kensett, died on
Saturday, August 10, 2002, at
the TLC Senior Living Center in
Visalia.
Funeral services
were held on Saturday, August
17, 2002, at the Elk Creek
Lutheran Church, rural Kensett,
with Selmer G. "Sam" Hernes
officiating. Burial was in the
Elk Creek Lutheran Church
Cemetery, rural Kensett. The
family of Anetta G. Groven has
requested that memorial
contributions be made to the Elk
Creek Lutheran Church in her
memory.
Anetta G. Groven,
was born on April 30, 1914 in
Kensett, the daughter of Andrew
and Thora Bratrud. She was
raised and educated in Iowa. She
was united in marriage to Albin
Groven in 1930 in Kensett. After
their marriage together they
owned and operated a family farm
in Minnesota. Anetta moved to
Colorado Springs, Colorado in
1946. In Colorado Springs, she
was employed by the Broadmoor
Hotel as a housekeeping
supervisor for 26 years until
her retirement in 1982. In 1997,
she moved to Visalia to be with
her daughter.
She was a member
of the Indian Heights Nazarene
Church in Colorado Springs.
Left to cherish
her memory are her children,
Gerald Groven and his wife, Pati
of Sun Lakes, Arizona, Arvin
Groven and his wife, Marilyn of
Colorado Springs, Colorado,
Alton Groven of Kensett, Donald

Dr. Stilaf
Anderson, 86, of Northwood, died
on Saturday, August 17, 2002, at
his home in Northwood.
Funeral services
were held on Tuesday, at the
First Lutheran Church,
Northwood, with Rev. Paul Holmer
officiating. Interment was in
the Sunset Rest Cemetery,
Northwood.
Stilaf Anderson,
was born on June 5, 1916 in
Holt, Minnesota, to Alfred and
Helen (Borsheim) Anderson. He
was a Doctor of Veterinary
Medicine.
He was preceded
in death by his parents.
Survivors include
his wife, Aune Anderson of
Northwood; two sons, Eric and
his wife, Pat of Whiting, Iowa
and their children, Nick and
Signe; Carl Anderson of Anchor
Point, Alaska; two daughters,
Lonna Jensen and her husband,
Dr. Cliff of Whitewood, South
Dakota and their children, Kira
Wages and her husband and
Katrina Jensen and her daughter,
Georgia; Ruth Anderson-Hills and
her husband, Edward of
Anchorage, Alaska and his
children, Amy and Justin Hills.

Laura Suzanne Lanstrum

Laura Suzanne
Lanstrum, 79, of Northwood, died
on Sunday, August 18, 2002, at
her home in Northwood.
Memorial services
are scheduled for Wednesday,
August 21, at 1:00 p.m., at the
Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home,
Northwood. Burial will be in the
Sunset Rest Cemetery, Northwood.
Memorials may be directed to the
Northwood Public Library,
Northwood.
Laura was born on
November 3, 1922 in Northwood,
to Claude and Hazel (Buchanan)
McQuatters. She served her
country in the U.S. Navy. Laura
married Eldon Lanstrum on
December 5, 1941, at the Little
Brown Church. She owned and
operated a beauty shop in
Northwood for many years.
Laura was
preceded in death by her
parents; husband; and a brother.
Survivors include
two sons, Alexander Lanstrum of
Little Elm, Texas and Terrance
Lanstrum of Boone, Iowa; one
brother, James McQuatters of
Albuquerque, New Mexico; one
sister, Ruth Shirley Drury of
Northwood; 10 grandchildren; and
five great-grandchildren.

Waldemar "Wally" F. Anderson

Waldemar "Wally"
F. Anderson, 79, died on
Tuesday, August 20, 2002, at the
Albert Lea Medical Center,
Albert Lea.
Funeral services
were held on Friday, at the
Grace Lutheran Church, Albert
Lea. The Rev. John Henriksen
officiated and burial was in the
Hillcrest Cemetery.
He was born in
Worth County, Iowa on August 10,
1923, the son of Bert and
Matilda (Erickson) Anderson. He
attended country school near
Lake Mills. Before enlisting in
the U.S. Marine Corps, Wally
served with the CCC (Citizens
Conservation Corps). On July 31,
1949, Wally married Lorna Flo in
Roundup, Montana. They were
members of the Grace Lutheran
Church where Wally had been
active as an usher and money
counter. He worked as a truck
driver and as custodian at the
Halvorson School Dist. #241.
Wally was a
member of the Albert Lea
American Legion and the VFW.
Survivors include
his wife, Lorna of Albert Lea;
sister, Elnora Willand of
Northwood; brothers and
sisters-in-law, Arlo (Hilma) Flo
of Bricelyn, Ronald Flo of
Kensett, Mavis (Marlin) Flo of
Albert Lea, Glorian Kennedy of
Albert Lea, Harry (JoAnn) Green
of Albert Lea, Donna Arneson of
Scottsdale, Arizona, Dale
(Barbara) Flo of LeSueur, Norma
Anderson of Lake Mills, Martha
Anderson of Albert Lea and Hazel
Anderson of Hollandale; and many
nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded
in death by his parents; four
brothers, Art, Malman, Bill and
Adrian Anderson; and one sister,
Rosciela Hagenson.

Laura M. Buechele

Laura M.
Buechele, 92, of Grafton, died
on Friday, August 23, 2002, at
the Good Samaritan Center in St.
Ansgar, Iowa.
Funeral services
were held on Tuesday, August 27,
at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church
in Grafton, with the Rev. Wayne
Ellingson officiating. Interment
was in the Grafton Cemetery.
Laura was born on
April 11, 1910 in Grafton, Iowa,
to Edmund and Emilie (Erdman)
Schmidt. Rev. John Landdeck
baptized her on May 6, 1920 at
the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in
Grafton. Rev. Carl Landdeck
confirmed her in her faith on
April 13, 1924 at Emmanuel
Lutheran. Laura graduated from
the Osage High School in 1928.
She worked for one year at the
Christian Brothers Store in
Grafton and taught school for
four years in a country school.
On October 15,
1933, she married to Alvin
Buechele, who preceded her in
death on January 18, 1970. They
were blessed with two daughters,
Ruth Anderson and Marie Blom.
She was an active member of the
Emmanuel Lutheran Church of
Grafton all her life.
She is survived
by her daughters and their
spouses, Harvey and Ruth
Anderson of Plano Texas and Paul
and Marie Blom of Spring, Texas;
five grandchildren, including
Joel Anderson, Matthew Anderson,
Nicole Anderson, Sara (Blom)
Slaughter and Nathan Blom; as
well as six great-grandchildren.

Mary (Allison) Foss

Mary (Allison)
Foss, 66, of West Des Moines,
and a native of Northwood, died
on Tuesday, August 27, 2002, of
cancer.
The
Dunst Funeral
Home of West Des Moines was in
charge of the arrangements and
no public funeral services are
planned.
Mary Allison, was
born on July 4, 1936, the
daughter of Dr. M. P. and Sue
Allison of Northwood. She
graduated from the Northwood
High School in 1954 and Grinnell
College in 1958. She was
employed by the Veterans
Administration in Washington,
D.C. until 1965 when she married
Larry Foss of Northwood at her
home that year. She then was
employed by the Veterans
Administration in Des Moines for
several years.
Survivors include
her husband, Larry Foss of West
Des Moines; daughter, Elizabeth
Sue Foss of Webster City;
mother, Sue Allison of
Northwood; and brother, Dr.
James Allison, Lincoln,
Nebraska.
She was preceded
in death by her four
grandparents; her father; and a
sister-in-law.
The family
requests memorials to be
directed to the American Cancer
Society, the Des Moines
Botanical Center or the Ackworth
Garden Club, Ackworth, Iowa.

Roy Spence Thorvilson

Roy
Spence Thorvilson, 80, of Lake
Mills, Iowa, died on Friday
morning, August 30, 2002, at the
Muse Norris Hospice Unit in
Mason City, Iowa.
Funeral services
will be held at 10:30 a.m., on
Wednesday, September 4, at the
Winnebago Lutheran Church in
rural Leland, with Rev. Bill
Peters officiating. Visitation
is from 5-8:00 p.m., on Tuesday,
at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home
in Lake Mills. Burial will take
place in the Winnebago Lutheran
Cemetery in rural Leland, Iowa.
Roy Spencer
Thorvilson, was born on his
parent's farm near Lake Mills,
on August 18, 1922. His parents
were T.A. and Andrea (Tweeten)
Thorvilson. Roy was an active,
life-long member of the
Winnebago Lutheran Church. He
graduated from the Lake Mills
High School. On March 27, 1971,
Roy was united in marriage to
Virginia Mae Alex. Virginia
passed away in 1988. His farm
and farming was his life and he
loved it.
Roy is survived
by one step-son, Duffy and his
wife, Bonnie Gangsei of Allison,
Iowa; daughter-in-law, Charlene
Gangsei of Lake Mills; six
grandchildren, Connie and her
husband, David Ayers, Tanya and
her husband, Martin Reeser, Leah
and her husband, Jason Lewis,
Mindy Gangsei, Sheila and her
husband, Neeny Malekia and
Jeffrey and his wife, Barb
Gangsei; six
great-grandchildren; along with
several nieces, nephews and
other relatives.
Roy was preceded
in death by his parents; his
wife, Virginia; four brothers;
three sisters; and step-son, Lon
Gangsei.
