Walter A. Kruger

Walter
A. Kruger, 78, of Northwood,
formerly of rural Manly, died on
Saturday, November 2, 2002, at
the Mercy Medical Center North
Iowa.
Funeral services
were held on Wednesday, November
6, at the Bethlehem Lutheran
Church, Manly, with Rev. Randy
Nielsen officiating. A graveside
service was held the same day in
the Grafton Cemetery, where
military honors were conducted
by the Tabbert-Hollatz American
Legion Post #616.
Walt was born on
January 24, 1924, on his family
farm outside of Manly, a son of
Alvin and Esther (Walk) Kruger.
He was baptized at the Emmanuel
Lutheran Church, Grafton and
affirmed his faith through
confirmation at the English
Lutheran Church, Manly. Walt
graduated from the Plymouth High
School in 1942 and then went to
work on the family farm. He
served in the United States
Marines from April 1945 until
August 1946 during World War II.
After his honorable discharge,
he returned home to again work
on the family farm. Walt married
Juanita Nagel on August 2, 1952,
at the First Christian Church in
Mason City. They moved on to the
home farm and lived and worked
there until November 2001. Walt
was a lifelong farmer who began
farming with his parents, and
then continued with his brothers
and finally, his sons.
He was an active
member of the Bethlehem Lutheran
Church, serving on the church
council and teaching Sunday
School for nearly 40 years. Walt
was also a 50-year member of the
Tabbert-Hollatz American Legion
Post #616 of Grafton, was a
Grafton Township Board Member
and served on the Grafton Co-op
Board. He enjoyed gardening and
restoring antique tractors.
Walt is survived
by his wife, Juanita Kruger of
Northwood; two sons and their
spouses, Dennis and Kathy Kruger
of rural Manly and Keith and
Julie Kruger of rural Kensett;
six grandchildren, Erin (Kruger)
Stewart and her husband, Nathan
of Waukee, Iowa, Jennifer Kruger
of St. Paul, Minnesota, Justin
Kruger of rural Manly, Eric
Kruger and his wife, Alissa of
rural Grafton and Matthew and
Gregory Kruger, both of rural
Kensett; and one great-grandson,
Quinlan Stewart; four brothers,
Rev. Harold Kruger and his wife,
Jacqueline of Genesco, New York,
Edward Kruger and his wife,
Maxine of Grafton, Rev. Robert
Kruger of Rock Island, Illinois
and Allen Kruger and Shirley of
Bolivar, Missouri; six sisters,
Myrtle Davis and her husband,
James of Mason City, Gladys
Grant of Osage, Dora Runyon and
her husband, David of Council
Bluffs, Ruth Erdmann and her
husband, Philip and Clarice
Wilde and her husband, Robert,
all of Osage and Deanna Sande
and her husband, Gary of St
Paul, Minnesota; one
sister-in-law, Rose Marie Kruger
of Northwood; and many nieces,
nephews, other relatives, and
friends.
He was preceded
in death by an infant son,
Eugene Kruger; an infant
brother, Richard Kruger; his
parents; and a brother, Harvey
Kruger.

Worth man dies in 105
accident
November 5, 2002
A rural
Worth County man died
early Saturday morning
in an accident on
Highway 105 west of
Northwood.
Jonathan
Bergo, 23, was thrown
from his vehicle after
it went out of control
on the Highway 105 curve
just east of Grouse
Avenue, approximately 1½
miles southwest of the
Top of Iowa Welcome
Center. Bergo was not
wearing his seatbelt,
according to the Worth
County sheriff's
department, which is
still investigating.
The
sheriff was assisted at
the scene by the Iowa
State Patrol, Joice Fire
Department, Lake Mills
Ambulance Service and
Dick's Place Body and
Tow of Northwood.

Jonathan
Julian Wallace Bergo, 23, of
Lake Mills, Iowa, died on
Saturday, November 2, 2002, as
the result of an automobile
accident on his way to his new
home at the farm.
Funeral services
were held on Tuesday, at the
Sion Lutheran Church, rural Lake
Mills, with Rev. Thomas Hagen
and Rev. Al Stoa officiating.
Burial was in the Sion Lutheran
Cemetery in rural Lake Mills.
Jonathan "God's
Gracious Gift" Julian Wallace
Bergo, beloved son of Dennis and
Susan Renee (Yoho) Bergo, was
born on January 31, 1979 in
Mason City, Iowa. He was
baptized on February 18, 1979 at
the Sion Lutheran Church by Rev.
I.B. Sorenson. He was confirmed
on March 27, 1994 at the Silver
Lake Lutheran Church by Rev. Al
Stoa. Jonathan attended the
Northwood-Kensett School until
1992 and graduated from the Lake
Mills High School on May 31,
1998. He was inducted in the
United States Army in June 1998
and served his country until
July 2001.
Jonathan loved
life. He was adored by his
family. He enjoyed working on
old tractors, trucks and gas
engines with his Dad. He had
many hobbies and interests which
included: hunting and fishing,
playing guitar, riding his
motorcycle and being involved in
4-H.
Jonathan will be
sadly missed by everyone who
knew him and will always be
remembered with love. Jonathan
chose to be an organ donor.

Edna Hendrickson

Edna Hendrickson,
95, died on Sunday, November 3,
2002, at the Sheffield Care
Center, Sheffield, Iowa.
Funeral services
were held on Wednesday, at the
Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in
Hampton, with Pastor Dave
Schwechel officiating. Burial
was in the Hampton Cemetery.
Edna Emma Jane
Olson, was born on October 24,
1907 in Franklin County, Iowa,
to Julius and Emma Olson. She
grew up in rural Hampton and
attended the Hampton Public
Schools. She was a member of the
First Baptist Church in
Sheffield. She married Purl
Hendrickson on October 9, 1952,
at the Little Brown Church in
Nashua. They made their home in
Mason City until moving to the
Sunrise Homes in Sheffield in
1975. Purl preceded her in death
on May 9, 1984. She entered the
Sheffield Care Center in
September of 2001.
Survivors include
her niece, Shirley and Merlin
Plagge of Sheffield and their
children, Cheryl Plagge of Mason
City, Deb and Jim Atkinson of
Sheffield, Kay and Ron Eavenson
of Houston, Texas and Don and
Nancy Plagge of Sheffield; and
great-great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded
in death by her husband, Purl;
her parents; and her brother,
Milford Olson.

Arlene Hopperstad
November 12, 2002
Arlene
Hopperstad, 83, of Northwood,
died on Tuesday, November 5,
2002, at the HCR-Manor Care
Center in Waterloo.
Funeral services
were held on Friday, November 8,
at the First Lutheran Church,
with Rev. Paul Holmer
officiating. Burial was in the
Sunset Rest Cemetery in
Northwood. The Conner Colonial
Chapel, Northwood, was in charge
of the arrangements.
Arlene J.
Hopperstad, the daughter of Carl
and Inga (Peterson) Hopperstad
was born on January 22, 1919 at
Reeder, North Dakota and was
baptized at the Slim Butte
Lutheran Church in South Dakota.
At the age of one-year she and
her parents moved to her
grandfather's P.O. Peterson farm
in Brookfield Township, rural
Northwood. She was a member of
the Elk Creek Lutheran Church,
where she reaffirmed the faith
of her baptism through
confirmation. She attended the
Brookfield Township School and
graduated from the Kensett High
School in 1937. Arlene also
attended Waldorf College in
Forest City, Iowa. In 1959, she
and her parents moved to
Northwood where she was a member
of the First Lutheran Church.
She was employed by Mortenson's
Produce and Carroll George Inc.,
both in Northwood.
Arlene made two
trips to Vik, Norway to visit
with cousins. In 1996, she moved
to her cousin June Brown's
daughters home Kathleen and Ron
Fulton in Brandon, Iowa. June
Brown made her home with the
Peterson and Hopperstad family.
She enjoyed
reading, crocheting, walking,
and playing the piano. She was a
member of the First Lutheran
Church in Northwood and was a
former member of the Elk Creek
Norwegian Girls Chorus.
Left to cherish
her memory is many cousins and
friends.

Agnes T. Douglas

Agnes
T. Douglas, 96, of Kensett, died
on Tuesday, November 5, 2002, at
the Lake Mills Care Center in
Lake Mills, Iowa.
Funeral services
were held on Friday, at the Elk
Creek Lutheran Church, Kensett,
with Pastor Selmer G. Hernes
officiating. Burial was in the
Elk Creek Cemetery rural
Kensett.
Agnes was born on
June 10, 1906, to Ole and Anna
(Heimdal) Haugo at Lake Mills,
Iowa. She attended school there
and graduated from the Lake
Mills High School. She went on
to get her teaching certificate
at Waldorf College and then
taught in rural schools around
Lake Mills. Agnes moved to
Detroit, Michigan and went to
cosmetology school.
While living in
Detroit she met Charles Hilton
Douglas and they were married on
March 24, 1933 in Detroit. They
moved to a farm near Ypsilanti,
Michigan and lived there until
1949, when they bought a farm
near Kensett, Iowa and lived
there the rest of their lives.
Agnes was a
lifelong member of the Elk Creek
Lutheran Church.
Agnes is survived
by one son, William C. "Bill"
Douglas and his wife, Debbie of
Cedar Rapids; four
grandchildren; two sisters,
Rachel Brunsvold and her
husband, Eldren of Kensett and
Amanda Thoe and her husband, Bob
of Magalia, California; and one
brother, Walter Haugo and his
wife, Mary Jo of Litchfield,
Minnesota.
She was preceded
in death by her parents; her
husband, Charles Hilton Douglas;
three sisters, Amanda Haugo,
Ruth Vail and Thora (Harmon)
Larson; and three brothers, Ted
Haugo, Torg Haugo and Harold
Haugo.

Byron Dean Smeby

Byron
Dean Smeby, 62, of Rockwell,
died on Friday, November 8,
2002, after a long courageous
battle with cancer, surrounded
by his family, at the
Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient
Unit in Mason City.
Funeral services
were held on Tuesday, at the
United Methodist Church in
Rockwell, with Rev. Bruce
Wittern officiating. Burial was
in the Brush Point Cemetery,
rural Hanlontown.
Byron Dean Smeby,
was born on June 25, 1940 on the
Smeby family farm, north of
Hanlontown. He was the son of
John O. and Olga (Sorensen)
Smeby. He attended rural country
schools near Hanlontown,
graduating from the Hanlontown
High School in 1959. He married
Linda Davis on June 9, 1963, at
the United Methodist Church in
Clear Lake and was blessed with
three loving sons. Byron loved
farming all his life. He began
farming in 1968 until the
present, in the Klemme and
Rockwell areas. He especially
enjoyed his Black Angus cow/calf
herd and having John Deere
equipment for his farming
operations. His love of the land
and farming has been handed down
to his sons who will continue in
their fathers legacy for many
generations to come.
Byron loved the
land and farming, but his great
love and enjoyment was his
family and grandchildren.
He was a former
member of the Immanuel Reformed
United Church of Christ, in
Klemme and presently a member of
the United Methodist Church in
Swaledale.
Left to cherish
his memory is his wife, Linda
Smeby of Rockwell; three sons,
Terry Smeby and his wife, Janie
and their boys, Jordan and
Collin of Mason City, Todd Smeby

Neumann Braegelmann, 82, of
Northwood, died on Sunday,
November 10, 2002, at the
Lutheran Retirement Home,
Northwood.
Funeral services
will be held on Friday, November
15, at 11:00 a.m., at the First
Lutheran Church, Northwood, with
Rev. Alan Stoa and Monsignor
Slepicka officiating. Burial
will be in the East Olaf
Lutheran Church Cemetery, Rock
Dell, Minnesota. Visitation will
be on Thursday, from 6-8:00
p.m., at the Schroeder & Sites
Funeral Home, Northwood and on
Friday one hour prior to the
services at the church.
Helen was born on
March 11, 1920 in Mitchell,
Iowa. She was the daughter of
Carl and Emma (Koschmeder)
Neumann. Helen attended schools
in Mitchell County until moving
to Northwood in January 1937,
where she graduated as
Valedictorian. Upon graduating
she worked as a waitress for a
time, then worked for Farm
Bureau, later at Dr. Olson's
office and then for the Bell
Telephone Company. Helen married
Richard "Shorty" Braegelmann on
April 28, 1957.
Helen's hobbies
include reading, writing poetry,
fishing, boating and singing.
She liked to walk in the woods
and being around lakes where she
rode on many different types of
boats. She did deep sea fishing
several times in the Gulf of
Mexico. Helen liked to travel by
car, train, bus and airplane.
She covered the area from the
Pacific Ocean to the Great Lakes
and down to the Gulf of Mexico.
Helen spent several winters in
the southern states and Mexico.
She was preceded
in death by her parents; sister,
Caroline Kleinwort and her
husband, Earl; and
brother-in-law, LeRoy Palmer.
Helen is survived
by her husband, Richard "Shorty"
Braegelmann; niece, Donna Vrieze
and husband, Avery of Spring

Marguerite Kenison, 76, of
Northwood, died on Monday,
November 11, 2002, at the Mercy

Leona Marguerite
Kenison, was born on January 16,
1926 in Northwood, the daughter
of Clarence and Julia (Tue)
Severson. She was baptized and
reaffirmed the faith of her
baptism through confirmation in
the Shell Rock Lutheran Church
in Northwood. She attended and
received her education in the
Northwood Community School
System, graduating from the
Northwood High School in 1944.
Leona also attended and received
her teaching certificate from a
teachers college in Cedar Falls.
She married Keith Matthew
Kenison on April 1, 1945, at the
Shell Rock Lutheran Church in
Northwood. He preceded her in
death on December 18, 2000.
After their marriage Leona
taught for a short time in a
rural country school near
Northwood. Leona also was a cook
at the Paramount Restaurant,
Midway Café, both in Northwood,
Northwood Country Club and for
many years was the school lunch
cook for the Northwood Community
Schools and most recently was
employed at Sue's Corner Post
Restaurant in Northwood, until
her death.
She enjoyed
embroidering, cooking, was very
active in two church circles and
the Golden Tones Choir at First
Lutheran Church in Northwood,
but her great love and enjoyment
was her family and many friends.
Leona's church
was very important to her and
had served on many church groups
within the church and also was a
former church council member,
and a member of First Lutheran
Church in Northwood, and was
also active in a TOPS group for
several years in Northwood.
Left to cherish
her memory are her children,

Alton E. Davis

Alton E. Davis,
76, of Oakland, Minnesota, died
on Tuesday, November 12, 2002,
at his home.
Funeral services
will be held on Friday, at the
Faith Lutheran Church, London,
Minnesota, with Pastor Rueben
Unseth officiating. Interment
was in the Deer Creek Lutheran
Cemetery. Military honors were
accorded by the Albert Lea Area
Veterans Groups.
Alton was born on
May 5, 1926, the son of Clyde
and Corinne (Hendrickson) Davis
in Freeborn County, Minnesota.
He was baptized and confirmed at
the Deer Creek Valley Lutheran
Church. Alton graduated from the
Northwood High School in 1944.
He farmed with the family until
enlisting in the U.S. Army
serving his country in Japan,
from January 1946 to July 1947
as a Staff Sgt. and earning a
Victory Medal and the Army
Occupied Medal of Japan. He then
returned home to farm again on
the family farm. Alton married
Arliss Hagen on November 26,
1950 in the First Lutheran
Church, Glenville, Minnesota.
They farmed together in rural
Oakland and London, Minnesota.
He and his wife raised purebred
Duroc hogs.
He was the U.S.
Postmaster in Oakland, receiving
his 25-year pin upon retirement
in 1988. They also enjoyed
buying, selling and refinishing
antiques for their Lane of
Hearts Antique Shop. Alton
raised and sold strawberries and
vegetables at the local farmer's
market. He helped organize and
was the first President of the
Faith Lutheran Church. He
enjoyed taking his kids fishing,
auctions, antiquing and visiting
with special friends at the
Austin McDonalds. He was in 4-H
and showed at the Freeborn
County Fair and later enjoyed
watching his children and
grandchildren show their
animals. He was a 4-H Leader and
received the third generation
4-H award.
Alton is survived
by his five children, Cindy
Davis of St. Paul, Minnesota,
Vickie Kronlage and husband,
Douglas of Charles City, Iowa,
Gary Davis and wife, Carol of
Oakland, Minnesota, Christy
Streff and husband, Ken of Sioux
Falls, South Dakota and Craig
Davis of Oakland, Minnesota;
seven grandchildren; brothers,
Emery Davis and wife, Clarice of
Glenville, Minnesota and Laurell
Davis and wife, Clarice of
Glenville; sister, Yvonne Tews
and husband, Leonard of

November 13, 2002, at her home.
Funeral services

Elaine Siemsen officiating.
Interment was in the St. Peter
Lutheran Cemetery, Toeterville.
Delores Elaine
Thompson, was born on August 25,
1926, the daughter of Edwin and
Mary Johnson Pike in Otranto
Township. She was baptized at
the Deer Creek Lutheran Church
and confirmed at the First
Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar.
On November 10, 1946 she married
M. Dean Thompson. To this union
were born Mavis, Vickie,
Geraldine and David.
Delores was a
bookkeeper until her retirement,
first at the Northwood Lumber
Company and then at the
Stacyville Lumber Company. Her
interest included gardening,
word puzzles, bingo, embroidery
and baking. She always enjoyed
giving to others.
She was preceded
in death by her husband, Dean;
her parents; three sisters,
Laura Hendrikson, Evelyn Nelson
and Diane Pike; and six
brothers, Earl, Pearl, Erwin,
Anton, Lawrence and Warren.
She is survived
by three daughters, Mavis and
husband, Harvey Fischer of Coeur
d'Alene, Idaho, Vickie and
husband, David Bruggeman of
Toeterville and Geraldine
"Jerry" of Marion, Iowa; son,
David of Marion, Iowa; four
grandchildren; two sisters, Edna

Irene Eleanor Dennis

Irene
Eleanor Dennis, 85, died on
Saturday November 16, 2002, at
the Willow Pointe Assisted
Living, Mason City, Iowa.
Funeral services
were held on Wednesday, at the
First Lutheran Church,
Northwood. Interment was in the
Sunset Rest Cemetery, Northwood.
Irene was born on
June 25, 1917, the daughter of
Edward and Thea (Wold) Olson in
Northwood, Iowa. She attended
Worth County Country Schools. On
September 20, 1937, Irene
married Lloyd "Speg" Skjeveland
in Sisseton, South Dakota. They
lived in Northwood for many
years operating Irene's Diner
and the Maid-Rite Café, both on
Central Ave. Mr. Skjeveland died
in 1961. On December 1, 1962,
Irene married Frank Dennis in
Albert Lea, Minnesota. The
couple then made their home in
Mason City.
While living in
Mason City, Irene attended
Hamilton Business College and
worked for Risto Manufacturing
until her retirement. Mr. Dennis
died in 1980. In 1995, Irene
moved into the Shalom Towers. In
2000, she then moved out to
Willow Pointe Assisted Living
were she stayed until her death.
Irene was an avid
Minnesota Twins fan. She always
enjoyed a good game of "500". In
her younger years Irene loved to
sew and do fine needlework.
Irene also looked forward to
going to the Surf Ballroom to
dance. Irene was a former member
of the Women of the Moose.
Irene is survived
by one sister, Edna Dishon of
Appleton, Minnesota; seven
nieces; three nephews;
grand-nieces and nephews; and
many friends.
Mrs. Dennis was
preceded in death by her
parents; two husbands, Lloyd
Skjeveland and Frank Dennis;
three sisters, Olga Haugen,
Clara Wacholz and Pearl
Skjeveland; and three brothers,
Elmer, Alvin and Marvin Olson.

Lola Margaret Bratrud

Lola
Margaret Bratrud, 89, of
Kensett, died on Sunday,
November 24, 2002, at the
Lutheran Retirement Home in
Northwood.
Funeral services
will be held at 10:00 a.m., on
Saturday, November 30, at the
Bethany Lutheran Church in
Kensett, with Rev. Selmer G.
(Sam) Hernes officiating. Burial
will be in the Elk Creek
Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural
Kensett. Friends may call from
4-7:00 p.m., on Friday, at the
Conner Colonial Chapel,
Northwood and one hour prior to
the service time on Saturday at
the church.
Lola Margaret
Bratrud, was born on November 1,
1913, in rural Winnebago County,
the daughter of Emery and Flora
(Bailey) Ashpole. She attended
and received her education in
the Thompson School System. She
married Thomas Bratrud on May
10, 1931 in Thompson, Iowa. He
preceded her in death on January
23, 1985. After their marriage
together they farmed west of Elk
Creek before moving to Kensett
in 1938. The family lived in
Kensett until moving to Thompson
in 1941 and then moving back to
Kensett in 1946. After moving
back to Kensett, Lola began
working for Winnebago Industries
in Forest City and from 1959 to
1961 she worked as the manager
for her son, Allan Bratrud in
his grocery store, Quality Foods
in Kensett until her retirement.
She was a member
of the Bethany Lutheran Church
in Kensett, church circles and
the church choir.
Left to cherish
her memory are her two sons,
Allan Bratrud and his wife,
Dorothy of Kensett and James
Bratrud and his wife, Karen of
Macintosh, Florida; two
grandchildren, Rick Bratrud of
Des Moines and Randy Bratrud and
his wife, Sheila of Kensett;
four great-grandchildren, Max
Bratrud of Des Moines, Tessa,
Coleby and Dusti Bratrud, all of
Kensett; sister, Gayle Boutelle
of Clear Lake; sister-in-law,
Gena Tagesen of Mason City; many
nieces and nephews and a special
friend, Dale Brakel of Mason
City; as well as other relatives
and friends.
Besides her
husband, Thomas Bratrud; she was
also preceded in death by her
parents; son, Michael Bratrud;
daughter, Margaret Bratrud;
three brothers, Emery Jr.,
Harold and Russell Ashpole; two
sisters, Beulah Ashpole and
Olive Charleson; and two
brother-in-laws, Don Boutelle
and Henry Tagesen.

George O. Legge

George O. Legge,
90, of Belmond, Iowa and
formerly of the Garner and
Clarion areas, died on Monday,
November 25, 2002, at his home
in Belmond.
Funeral services
were held on Saturday, November
30, at the Belmond United
Methodist Church, with the Rev.
Mike Druhl officiating. Private
family interment was in the
Evergreen Cemetery, Clarion.
George Oliver
Legge, was born on May 5, 1912
on his parents' farm, in Wright
County, southwest of Clarion,
the son of William Abner and
Mary Margaret (Spencer) Legge.
He attended a Clarion area rural
school. George was united in
marriage to Edna Mae Mason on
December 23, 1933, by Rev. N.A.
WenterStein of the Methodist
Episcopal Church, Clarion.
George was a
farmer. His love of farming and
working the land continued
throughout his entire life.
George was actively engaged in
farming full time until his
retirement in 1972, however his
devotion and ambition of farming
continued in his retirement
years as he continued to assist
his grandson, Mike Legge, with
various farming duties including
driving tractor up to age 87. He
was always a farmer at heart. He
and his wife lived on their farm
in Liberty Township, rural
Garner, from 1941-1991 when they
moved to Belmond.
In earlier years
of his life, George had served
as Chairman of the District #5
Liberty Township, Garner School.
He served as Chairman and played
an integral role in the
development of the Klemme Senior
Citizens. He was a member of
Farm Bureau and the Belmond
United Methodist Church. George
will be remembered by many for
being a gentleman, who had a big
heart and cared about others.
Those left to
cherish the memory of his life
include his daughter, Pat and
her husband, Andy Oswald of
Fertile, Iowa; grandchildren,
Annette Oswald and her friend,
Rollie O'Donnell and her son,
Mason Oswald, all of Joice,
Randy Oswald and his wife, Patti
and their children, Josi and
Cody Askvig, all of Hanlontown,
Terry Legge and his wife, Sue
and their children, David,
Katie, Cris and Charlie Legge of
Grimes, Iowa, Mike Legge and his

of Garner, Robert Legge and his
wife, Ruth and their children,
Jennifer, Andrew and Sarah all
of Garner and Lisa Legge and her
husband, Craig Lassig of
Minneapolis, Minnesota;
sisters-in-law, Leona and her
husband, Tom Severe of Webster
City, Donna and her husband,
Francis Ainger of Belmond, Lila
and her husband, Richard
Amundson of Clarion, Evelyn
Wooten of Des Moines and Anna
Mae Mason of Amboy, Minnesota;
and brothers-in-law, Albert
Claude of Clarion and Bill
Beenen of Belmond; also numerous
nieces and nephews.
He was preceded
in death by his parents; wife,
Edna in July 1994; son, James;
great-grandson, Mathew Legge;
and seven brothers and sisters.

Tenold-Andrews
Funeral Home, Belmond, was in
charge of the funeral
arrangements.

Beulah Mae Packard

Beulah
Mae Packard, 96, of Northwood,
died on Saturday November 30,
2002, at the Manly Care Center.
Funeral services
were held on Monday, at the
United Methodist Church,
Northwood, with Pastor Richard
Jensen and Ann Kuhlman
officiating. Burial was in the
Sunset Rest Cemetery in
Northwood. The family of Beulah
Mae Packard has requested that
memorial contributions be made
to the United Methodist Church
in Northwood or the Hospice of
North Iowa in her memory.
Beulah Mae
Packard, was born on April 22,
1906 in Shell Rock, Iowa, the
daughter of Albert and Edith (Horting)
Patterson. She attended the
Shell Rock Community Schools and
the Northwood High School
graduating in 1925. Beulah also
attended and graduated from
Hamilton Business College in
Mason City. She married Charles
Packard on December 2, 1929. He
preceded her in death on May 18,
1985. Beulah worked as a
bookkeeper at the Chevrolet
garage in Northwood. They farmed
for many years northeast of
Northwood until their
retirement, then they moved to
Northwood. She loved all
children and after her
retirement was a babysitter for
various families in the
Northwood area.
She enjoyed
gardening, flowers, driving
around the North Iowa area, her
church circle and the Semper
Fidelis Study Club in Northwood.
She was a member of the United
Methodist Church in Northwood.
Left to cherish
her memory is her sister, Vivian
Carberry and her husband, Arthur
of Mason City; a sister-in-law,
Geneva Patterson of Northwood;
nieces and nephews, Dennis
Carberry and his wife, Bambi of
Mason City, Cheryl Dorsey and
her husband, Shawn of Shreve
Port, Louisiana, Jenny, Jessica,
Katie, and Jason Carberry, all
of Mason City, Erin and Meaghan
Dorsey, both of Shreve Port,
Louisiana, Shirley Tapp of
Austin, Minnesota, Arlene Bakke
of California, Leonard Patterson
and Larry Patterson of St.

husband, she was also preceded
in death by her parents; a son,
Charles Packard, Jr.; a
daughter, Virginia Mae Packard;
three brothers, Earl, Russell
and Robert Patterson; and a
nephew, Dewayne Patterson.
