Donald Paul Boyd

January 4, 1927 – February 11, 2014

Donald Paul Boyd, 87, of Sun City, Arizona passed away February 11, 2014, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born January 4, 1927, in Boone County, Iowa. He was the oldest son of J. Roy and Caroline (Buzzell) Boyd. He attended and graduated from Jordan school. He served in the Army Air Corp during World War II. On September 18, 1947 he married Faye C. Howard at the 1st Presbyterian Church in Boone, IA. They enjoyed 67 years of marriage.

Mr. Boyd farmed in rural Boone County and operated grain elevators in Knoke and Lakota, Iowa until 1966. He then joined Continental Grain Company in St. Louis as a commodity trader and troubleshooter. Later he worked for National Marine Company until his retirement. A move to Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri got him involved in land development, resulting in the Boyd Estates Subdivision in Camdenton, Missouri. After being “snow birds” for a number of years, they lived permanently in Sun City, Arizona.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and Shrine in Sioux City, Iowa, where he was a member of the “Flying Fez.” He flew burn children to Shriners Hospitals. He was a member of the Jordan Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed flying, traveling, golf, helping and spending time with family and friends.

Preceding him in death were his son, Bob, daughter-in-law Debra, parents, brother and sister.

Survivors include wife, Faye, 3 daughters and husbands, Kathy and Harry Fuller of Chandler, Arizona, Patt and Herb Jones of Terre Haute, Indiana, Peggy and Rick Leffingwell of San Tan Valley, Arizona; 10 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 3 nephews and 1 niece.

He was honored for his military service by a ceremony and presentation of flag to his wife. Memorial service will be held at a later date in Boone, Iowa. Memorials will be given to the Shriners Children’s Burn Unit.


Ruth Sheldahl, age 94 of Lakota, passed away Sunday, March 9, 2014 at the St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids.

Funeral service was held 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 14 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lakota, with Pastor Lynn Noel officiating. Burial was at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Lakota.

Ruth Mildred Hertzke Sheldahl was born on February 17, 1920 to Paul F. Hertzke and Mattie Leigh Hertzke in Lincoln Township outside Lakota. She was baptized on April 25, 1920 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lakota.

Ruth was confirmed in the same Lutheran Church on May 28, 1933. She attended country school in Lincoln Township and completed high school, graduating May 18, 1937 from Lakota High School.

On September 8, 1938, Ruth and Edward Sheldahl were united in marriage in St. Paul Lutheran Church, where she remained a member until her passing.

From that union, they welcomed three sons and two daughters into this world while farming near Lakota. Ruth and Ed farmed until retiring in 1980.

Ruth had a love of gardening and flowers; keeping the back yard looking pretty for most of her years. She enjoyed embroidery, crocheting, quilt making and working word puzzles. Her cinnamon rolls were her hallmark item baked for family and friends. Ruth cherished her time with her family, with her children and families visiting frequently. She also shared her lifelong love of the Lord with her family.

She is survived by: her children, Robert and Mavis Marlene Sheldahl of Albuquerque, NM, Gary and Eleanor Sheldahl of Forest City, Diane and Paul Geilenfeldt of Baxter, Sheryl Sheldahl Mulder of Prinsburg, MN, Nancy and Thomas Distler of Solon; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 2 step great-grandchildren; one step great-great grandchild; brother and sister-in-law, Otto and Alfa Hertzke; sister-in-law Charlene Hertzke; sister-in-law Shirley Sheldahl; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Edward; her parents; her son, Duane; great-grandson, Noah Mellema; her brothers, Maynard, Raymond and Charles; and sister, Elsie. 1944-2014 Services:

Funeral service was held 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 14 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lakota. Burial was at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Lakota.


Sandra Bruns


Sandra Bruns passed away on Saturday, March 8, 2014, at her home in Titonka, at the age of 72.

Memorial service was held on Saturday, March 15 at 10:30 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church near Titonka, with
Reverends S. Kim and Trudy A. Peterson officiating. Inurnment was in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.

Sandra Raye (Watson) Bruns was born July 2, 1941, in Fenton, the daughter of Rolland and Elizabeth (Gramenz) Watson. Her family later moved to Titonka, where she graduated from the Titonka High School in 1959.

On February 21, 1960, Sandie was united in marriage to LeRoy Bruns at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Titonka. After their marriage, they lived and farmed near Titonka before moving to Titonka in November of 2012.

Sandie enjoyed spending time with her family and found tremendous joy cheering her grandchildren on in all of their life events. She delighted in making things special for others, including baking her “famous grandma cake” for birthdays and other celebrations and handcrafting personalized cards. She loved the beauty of the Christmas season and established many beloved family traditions. Sandie was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, WELCA and enjoyed her neighborhood birthday club.

She was surrounded by her family who were amazed by her grace, courage, strength and faith throughout her cancer journey.

She is survived by: her husband, LeRoy Bruns of Titonka; daughters, LeAnn Bruns of Ankeny, Cindy (Greg) Hoover of Johnston, Wendy (Brad) Harms of Wesley, Patricia (Travis) Hassebroek of Buffalo Center; grandchildren,
Melissa (Scott) Hemesath, Mitchell Hoover, Megan (Nick) Ratcliff, Lindsay (Zach) Haugland, Weston and Owen Harms, Nicolas and Paige Hassebroek; great-granddaughter, Elliott Grace Hemesath; siblings, Jon Watson of Rock Island, IL, Elizabeth Hasty of Mason City, Steve (Ann) Watson of Urbandale. She is also survived by several in-laws and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; and brother-in law, Kenneth Hasty.

Michael D. Krein

Michael D. Krein, 58, of Leland, died Sunday, March 2, 2014 at the Mercy Medical Center - North Iowa in Mason City.

A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 7, 2014 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Leland with Lay Minister Jim Mantel officiating.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Thursday (March 6, 2014) at Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 North Clark St in Forest City.

Inurnment will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Michael D. Krein memorial fund in care of the family.

Michael Douglas Krein the son of Ed and Beverly (Lewis) Krein, was born July 26, 1955 in Mandan, ND. The family  moved to Iowa where Mike attended Forest City Schools. He married Sheri Crites and they had a son, Adam Krein. Later the couple divorced.  On September 13, 1980, Mike married Susan Brown. Together they had two children Marissa and Jonathan Krein. Mike worked at Goldy’s Mobil, BJK Industries, and Winnebago Industries. Mike enjoyed riding Harley Davidson motorcycles, shooting guns, watching the Minnesota Twins, and attending his children’s activities. Mike was very supportive of his children and very proud of their accomplishments. He enjoyed the time he spent with his family and friends and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife, Susan Krein of Leland; children, Adam (Shanee) Krein of Wichita, KS,  Marissa and Jonathan Krein of Leland; grandsons, Logan and Colby Krein;  mother, Beverly Krein of Forest City; siblings; Vicki (Clete) Fruhwirth of Britt, Terry Krein of Leland, Rick (Nancy) Krein of Forest City, Dave (Geradette) Krein of Bokoshe, OK, Judy (Cliff) Chase of New Port Richey, FL, Lauri (David) Camacho of Manor, TX, Cherri Payne (Mike Hourigan) of Round Rock, TX , Joanie (Kevin) Claxton of Forest City and Lisa (Ken) Bass of White Bear Lake, MN; In-laws, Allen and Clarice Brown; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ed Krein; brothers, Roger and Johnny, and nephew, James Fruhwirth.


John D. McClement

John D. McClement, 62, of Forest City, died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014, at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

A funeral service was on Thursday, Feb. 20 at 10:30 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Forest City with Dixie Rauk, director of Lay Ministries officiating. A visitation was held 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, at Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 North Clark St.

Inurnment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the John D. McClement memorial fund in care of the family.

John David McClement was born May 27, 1951. He was raised by Ronald and Winifred McClement in Forest City; he attended schools and graduated from Forest City High School.

He attended Waldorf College where he met his wife Carol Gudvangen; they were married on Feb. 27, 1971, and made their home on the McClement family farm northeast of Forest City their entire married lives. John worked for Winnebago Industries for close to 45 years. He was a long time member of the United Methodist Church in Forest City. John loved driving his two Ford Mustangs, was an avid reader and loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed Saturday’s with his grandchildren; breakfast at Sally’s with Raven and supper with all of them at Taco Jerry’s. He also enjoyed dinners with his family in Britt. John was an avid bowler and belonged to many leagues, he loved watching his grandchildren bowl and also attend their many other activities. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his three sons, Chad (Cindy) McClement of Forest City, Josh McClement of Forest City and Travis (Jessica) McClement of Britt; six grandchildren, Raven, Brett, Spenser, Garrett, Logan and Tyler. Also surviving is a brother-in-law, Everett (Diane) Steele of Osage; sister-in-law, Barb (Jerry) Fischer of Ft. Atkinson; sister-in-law, Freida Steele of Cottonwood, Ariz. and nephew Keith (Karen) Steele of Phoenix, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Carol McClement in 2012.

Lorraine Maxine Olson

 

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lorraine Maxine Olson on Tuesday Feb. 25, 2014, from pneumonia. She was 83.

Lorraine was born on March 12, 1930, to Leroy and Gladys Robinson in Thompson. The oldest of four children, she lived on several farms, attended school and graduated in Thompson as well.

Lorraine married her husband Palmer Olson near Woden on June 20, 1948. They had three children together, Danny, David and Diann.

After moving to Thousand Oaks, Calif., in 1963, Lorraine began her 44 years of faithful service at Cal Lutheran University in 1964. Lorraine’s many positions included; manager of the campus bookstore, printer and secretary at the print shop, postal clerk, switchboard operator, service tech, as well as, computer helper. Her husband, Palmer, joined her at the university in 1965 in maintenance and security for 43 years.

Lorraine and Palmer built a home on campus in 1967 and still reside there today.

Lorraine and Palmer were long time members of the Pi R Squared Square Dancing Club, Ascension Lutheran Church of Thousand Oaks, Sons of Norway, as well as, long time supporters of the Cal Lutheran University Football Team, helping wherever they were needed.

Lorraine is survived by her Husband, Palmer Olson as well as their children, Danny and Linda Olson of Boulder, Colo., and Diann Savage of Clovis, Calif. Brothers and sisters in Law; Leroy and Kathy Robinson, Jr., Merle and Marge Robinson, Leroy Everhard, Carl and Dolly Olson, Arlene and Dale Hayes and Avis Alm. She also was the very proud and loving grandmother of 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son David.

Memorial Services are scheduled as follows;

Viewing will be held on Thursday March 6 from 5 to  8 p.m. at Conejo Mountain Funeral Home, 2052 Howard Road in Camarillo, Calif.

Memorial Services will be at 1 p.m.  Friday March 7, at Conejo Mountain Funeral Home, 2052 Howard Road in Camarillo, Calif.; followed by a graveside service.

A potluck reception will be held immediately following services at Ascension Lutheran Church of Thousand Oaks, 1600 E. Hillcrest Dr. in Thousand Oaks in Founders Hall.

Marlyn Eugene “Gene” Hall

 

Marlyn Eugene “Gene” Hall, 74, Clear Lake, formerly of Fertile, died Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake. 

A funeral service for Gene will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 8, 2014, at the Church of Christ, 3493 Eagle Ave, Fertile with Pastor Rob Perry and Pastor Dennis Ganz officiating. Burial will be in the Grant Township Cemetery, Fertile. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 North 4th Street, Clear Lake. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to service time on Saturday at the church.

The family would like to suggest that those wishing to give a memorial in his memory, may wish to direct memorials to the Church of Christ in Fertile. 

Gene was born on March 28, 1939 in Mason City, the son of Glea and Mavis (Ouverson) Hall. He received his education in the Fertile Community Schools, graduating from Fertile High School in 1957, and also graduated from Mason City Junior College with an AA degree in business. 

Gene was united in marriage to Judith “Judie” Haugen on August 23, 1959, and to this marriage four children were born, Tim, Tracy, Tami and Troy. After their marriage, Gene worked for Northern Lumber, Great Plains Lumber, and Forest City Improvement Company, in Forest City, and Klemme, before becoming co-owner purchasing the Fertile Lumber and Hardware Company in 1978 until his retirement due to ill health in 1997. 

Gene enjoyed doing carpentry work with his sons and son-in-law, enjoyed helping others, watching sports, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes, and spending time with friends at the Apple Valley Assisted living, but his great love and enjoyment was spending time with his family. 

Gene was a very active and life member of the Church of Christ, Elder of the Church and Chairman of Board when they built the church, taught Sunday School for several years, and sang in the church choir.  

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Tim (Patty) Hall of Mason City, Tracy (Tammy) Hall of Joice, Tami (Dan) Horner of Clear Lake, and Troy (Trish) Hall of Forest City; grandchildren, Christopher, Casey, Stephen and Andrew (Brittany) Hall, Samantha, Brady, Austin, and Hailey Horner, and Bethany, Nicholas, Logan, and Carsen Hall; one great-grandson, Paxten Hall; his brothers, Brian (Coralene) Hall of Clear Lake, and Gary (Cheryl) Hall of Lincoln, IL; his brother-in-law, Larry (Dixie) Haugen of Clear Lake; several nieces, nephews, as well as many extended family members and friends.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Glea and Mavis Hall; wife, Judie on June 28, 2004; sister-in-law, Janan Haugen; and his father and mother-in-law, James and Esther Haugen.

Norma Jean Authier

 

Norma Jean Authier, 85, of Buffalo, Minn., passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2014, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, Minn.

Funeral services for Norma Authier were at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 7 at The United Methodist Church in Thompson. Reverend Deb Devine officiated.

Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery in Thompson.

A visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 5, at The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo, Minn.

Honorary casket bearers were Justin Noll, Matthew Noll, Adam Noll, Steven Noll, Keely Sikora, Chelsey Mulligan, Andrew Authier, Allison Authier, Luke Authier, Bruce Authier, Travis Authier, Shelby Authier, Mallory Authier and six great-grandchildren.

Casket bearers were Kirk Authier, Lyle Authier, David Noll, Kevin Mulligan, Christopher Noll and Philip Authier.

She was born on March 10, 1928, in Buffalo Center, the daughter of Walter J. and Laura C. (Johnson) Pierce.

She graduated from high school in Thompson.

Norma Pierce and Lyle D. Authier were joined in marriage on Aug. 8, 1949, at The Little Brown Church in Nashua.

She enjoyed playing bingo and Farkle, listening to music and cheering on her favorite baseball team, The Minnesota Twins. She also attended Adult Daycare in Buffalo for 15 years.

Survived by four children and their spouses: Kathy and David Noll of Alexandria, Minn., Diane and Kevin Mulligan of Delano, Minn., Kirk and Brenda Authier of Vinton, and Lyle Jr. and Jamie Authier of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; 13 grandchildren; six great- grandchildren; two brothers and a sister: Brice (Shirley) Pierce of Thompson, Lonell (Mary Kay) Pierce of Ashville, N. C. and Ruth Ann Tibbits of Forest City; other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by her husband in 2001 and by her parents.

Robert W. Lohman

Robert W. Lohman, 90, of Charleston, Ill., and formerly of New Ulm, Minn., and Stillwater, Minn., passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, while at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Effingham. There will be a graveside service honoring and celebrating his life at the Fairview Cemetery in Stillwater, Minn., on May 17.

Bob was born on March 18, 1923, in Stillwater, Minn. to Wade and Edna (Patrick) Carmichael. At an early age he was adopted by Ray Lohman, the gentleman he knew as his father. He married Ann McKusick on Aug. 7, 1944, in Stillwater and she preceded him in death on Sept. 29, 2000, following 56 years of marriage. They were blessed with seven children, David Lohman and Pat of Forest City, Marianne Snowden and Dr. Thomas of Charleston, Ill., Gary Lohman and Diane of LaQuinta, Calif., Jeffrey Lohman and Faye of Indian Wells, Calif., Guy (Chip) Lohman and Jane of Danbury, Wis., Christopher Lohman and Tarri of Country Club, Mo., Tod Lohman and Deb of New Ulm, Minn.; 19 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a sister, Lois Peterson of White Bear Lake, Minn.; and a sister-in-law, Julie Lohman of Tucson, Ariz. In addition to his parents and wife, Bob was preceded in death by a brother, Ray Lohman and two sisters, Margaret Corboy and Virginia Glennon.

Bob was a United States Navy Veteran who faithfully served his country during World War II aboard the USS Tillman. He and Ann made their home in New Ulm, Minn., where Bob was employed for 26 years by Herberger’s Department Store as a manager and buyer, and served on its Board of Directors for three years. 

New Ulm was a community to which he was extremely devoted and generously gave of his time and talents. He was an active member of the New Ulm Chamber of Commerce, president of the Retail Division and as vice president of its board of directors. He was president of the New Ulm Business District and devoted nine years as chairman of the retail parking committee. He enjoyed a 16 year tenure on the board of directors of the New Ulm Foundation and sat on the advisory board of the Lorretto Hospital for 10 years and serving on its Finance Committee. 


Donna M. Hanks

A celebration of life for Donna M. Hanks was from 2-to 5 p.m., Saturday, March 8, at the Hindt Funeral Home in LeRoy, Minn. Burial will take place in the Bethlehem Cemetery-Beaver Twp. Fillmore County at a later date.

Donna M. Hanks, age 87, of LeRoy, Minn., passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at the Adams Health Care Center in Adams, Minn.

Donna Mae Fossum was born Sept. 2, 1926, in Waukon, to Otto and Maude (Outram) Fossum. She graduated from Waukon High School and continued her education at Milwaukee Downer College for Women. Donna worked in Howard County, Iowa, as a home economist. On July 13, 1952, Donna was united in marriage to Fred Hanks in Waukon. To this union, three sons were born: Darrell, Robin, and Neil. Helping on the family farm and raising her three sons were Donna's priorities in life. She was involved in judging 4-H projects at the county fair for many years and enjoyed gardening and flowers. She also enjoyed bird watching, knitting and crocheting and was a member of the Garden and History Club. Donna had a large collection of owl and Santa figurines, and was an avid reader her whole life.

She is survived by her husband Fred of LeRoy, Minn.; children, Darrell (Darla) Hanks of Forest City, Robin Hanks of LeRoy, Minn., and Neil (Donna J.) Hanks of LeRoy, Minn.; three grandsons, Paul (Andrea Gaio) Hanks, John Hanks, and Nick (Emily) Hanks; two step-grandsons, Matt (Jesse) Tindall and Marty (Allison) Tindall; three great-grandchildren, Breckan, Natalie, and Sydney Hanks; two step great-grandchildren, Gavin and Gaige Tindall; sisters and brothers-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Maude, and brother, H.O. "Bud" Fossum.

Mary E. Church

Mary E. Church, 94, of Forest City, died Friday, March 14, 2014, at the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City. 

A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 20 at the First Baptist Church, Forest City, with Pastor Doug Snyder officiating.

Visitation will be from  4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday  at Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark St., and will continue on Thursday one hour prior to services at the church.

Burial will be held in Amsterdam Cemetery in Kanawha following the service.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Mary E. Church memorial fund in care of the family.

Mary E. Church was born Nov. 27, 1919, in Forest City, the daughter of Leonard and Edna (Jacobson) Klipping.  She was married to Dent Church on May 20, 1939. To this union nine children were born.  Mary enjoyed taking care of her family, she worked hard, and was always proud of taking care of her home and raising her children. She enjoyed tending to her garden, canning, cooking, and also baking; she was especially known for her homemade bread.  She enjoyed the times she spent with her family and especially all her grandchildren.  She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Mary will be sadly missed by her eight children; Roger (Joyce) Church of Garner, Steve (Lynne) Church of Forest City, Joan (Ronald) Brown of Mason City, Arlene Church of Forest City, Carol (Daryle) Jass of Ankeny, Ruth Lang of Garner, Val (Bob) Formanek of Ventura, Laine Church of Mason City, Sandi (Mike) Randall of Clear Lake;  brother, Marvin Klipping of Britt, sister, Joanne Symes of Mason City, many nieces, nephews, twenty-five grandchildren, fifty-eight great-grandchildren, and eight great great grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband Dent Church on June 11, 1970; parents; six brothers; four sisters; son in-law John Lang, and an infant daughter Diane.

Robert Leo Hadacek

Robert Leo Hadacek, 75, 16520 370th St., Forest City, died Tuesday March 11, 2014, at his home.

A Funeral Mass was at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, March 15, at the St. James Catholic Church, 906 W. O St., Forest City, with Rev. Paul Lippstock, Rev. Dennis Miller and Rev. Jerome Verdick co celebrating. Visitaton was from 5 -7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 14, at St. James Catholic Church, Forest City with a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7 p.m. and a scriptural wake service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation was also one hour before the service.

Burial was in St. James Catholic Cemetery, Forest City, with military honors provided by the Forest City American Legion. Family suggests memorials to Our Lady of Ransom Oratory, 11347 323 Ave., Guckeen, Minn., 56111.

Robert was born Nov. 17, 1938, at his home in Duncan, the son of Joseph and Martha (Bouska) Hadacek. He graduated from Britt High School in 1956 and graduated from Iowa State Specialty College in 1960. He enlisted in the Army Reserves, where he was on active duty for six months and the reserve for 20 years, ending as Sergeant First Class. Robert married Sharon Kay Henderson Nov. 18, 1961, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Clear Lake and to this union five children were born. He worked as a surveyor for the Department of Transportation for 40 years where he helped survey I-35. He also took continuing education courses.

Robert loved his family especially his grandchildren which he had many pictures of them displayed throughout his home. Robert’s faith was very important to him. He was a member of two churches, St. James Catholic Church in Forest City and Oratory of Our Lady of Ransom, Guckeen, Minn. He attended both churches regularly where he went to daily mass along with attending mass where the Old Latin Rite was celebrated. He also enjoyed building and “tinkering” with woodworking and building projects which included his family homes. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Robert is survived by his children Robert J. (Marla) Hadacek, Klemme, Cathy E. (Jim) Foos, Thompson, Lori M. (David) Chaplin, Nampa, Idaho., Thomas J. (Sue Anne) Hadacek, Forest City, and Michael J. (Marlena) Hadacek, Forest City; fourteen grandchildren; sister Patricia (Maynard) Juhl, Mason City; brothers-in-law Danny and David Henderson; sisters-in-law Cleo and Mary Ellen; and many nieces and nephews.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Martha; wife Sharon Kay on Oct. 5, 2011; two brothers Joseph and Charles; and brother-in-law John Henderson.

Ted Lewison

Ted Lewison, 86, of Forest City died Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Memorial Services were at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 14, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City with Rev. Rod Hopp officiating.

A gathering of family and friends was from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, March 13, at Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark St., and continued one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.

Inurnment will be held in Oakland Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be directed to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Alzheimer’s Association, and Muse Norris Hospice.

Ted Lewison was born Dec. 25, 1927, to L. T. and Irene (Duea) Lewison in Story City. He served in the United States Marine Corps from Aug. 27, 1946, until Dec. 5, 1952, when he was honorably discharged. He furthered his education at Waldorf College graduating with a Liberal Arts Degree in 1952. He was united in marriage to Alice Bartleson on Sept. 4, 1951, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Forest City. Ted worked for Hanson Furniture and Funeral Home for many years. He retired from Winnebago in the Stitchcraft division after 21 years. Ted enjoyed wood carving, fishing, their cabin in Minnesota, and cooking. Above all else, Ted enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, serving as an usher and on the church council. He also served as a Boy Scout leader. Ted was a wonderful caregiver for his in-laws and brother-in-law, Rich, for many years. Ted will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife, Alice, of Forest City; daughter, Jill (Randy) Nedved of Garner and their children: Sara (Dan) Allen and son, Hudson, of Clear Lake, Keri (Gus) Byom and children Clay, Kailyn and Camren of Garner, Will Nedved of Los Angeles, Calif., Kate (Brian) Irving and daughter, Quinn, of Oradell, N.J., Blake (Ashley) Nedved of West Des Moines; and daughter: Julie (Jon) Nordaas of Manchester, and their children: Lindsey Nordaas of Iowa City and Jake Nordaas of Des Moines; and son: Jeff (Deena) Lewison of Forest City, and their children: Zach Lewison of Mason City, Alec (Nicole) Lewison of Eielson AFB, AK, and Molly Lewison of Forest City; sister: Helen (Bob) Peterson of Charles City; brother: Paul (Verna) Lewison of Anamosa; sister-in-law: Norma (Dennis) Hillesland of Spring Valley, Minn.; brother-in-law: Gus (JoAnn) Bartleson of Forest City; sister-in-law: Eunice (Mel) McCarthy of Kellogg and many nieces and nephews.

Mattie D. Tweeten

Mattie D. Tweeten, 86, of Forest City, died Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient unit in Mason City.

A memorial service was at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 22, at the Winnebago Lutheran Church, Lake Mills, with Pastor Bill Peters officiating.

A gathering of friends and family was held one hour before the services at the church.

Inurnment will be this spring in Winnebago Lutheran Cemetery.

Mattie D. Tweeten was born Nov. 8, 1927, in Forest City, the daughter of Peter and Esther (Hanna) Bartleson. She graduated from Forest City High School in 1945. She attended the Iowa Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls and graduated with a teaching degree. She taught at a country school for a few years before her marriage to Edwin Heimdal in 1949 at the Forest City Evangelical Church. Mattie and her husband farmed for many years, while raising their children. In 1968 Mattie decided to continue her education in nursing at NIACC. She graduated with a nursing certificate. She worked as a nurse at the Forest City Hospital until her retirement in 1990. She met and married Alvin Tweeten in 1990.

Mattie enjoyed knitting, reading, crossword puzzles and traveling with her late husband, Alvin. She enjoyed the time she spent with her family and friends and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Mattie is survived by her children, Elaine Dory of Urbandale, Martha Abraham of Waukee, Randal (Marcia) Heimdal of Lucas, Edward (Karen) Heimdal of Charles City; sister, Emma Murfin of Forest City; grandchildren, Jeff Kling, James Kling, Michelle Abraham, Marsha Abraham, Mark Abraham, Tricia (David) Shuffty, Jason (Elizabeth) Heimdal; great-grandchildren, Alexis and Cooper Kling and Jackson Heimdal and many special nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Edwin Heimdal ; second husband, Alvin Tweeten; three sisters, Martha Bartleson, Phoebe Bartleson, Geneva Clothier, son in-law Andrew Abraham; two brothers in-law, Edward Clothier and Max Murfin.

Irwin Frederick Hildman

“I never had a bad day in my life” was Irwin’s favorite expression. Irwin Frederick Hildman was born November 21, 1916, at Wesley to George and Sophia (Wirth) Hildman. Irwin attended school at St. Benedict then helped his father on the farm until he was drafted.

Irwin served in the United States Army from 1941 to 1945 with the 113th Calvary in Bowie, Texas. He served in France in World War II, doing reconnaissance missions. He was honorably discharged in 1945.

After his father’s death in 1948 he and his brother Clair took over the farming operations. He was especially proud of his herd of Simmental Cattle, some of the first in the Wesley area.

On January 7, 1949, Irwin was married to Helen Ramus in Livermore. Irwin retired from farming in 1981.  Helen died in October of 2003 and Irwin became a resident of the Algona Manor Care Center in June, 2013, and died there on Friday evening, March 14, 2014, at the age of 97.

Irwin enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing cards and attending stock car races at Algona Raceway, which he continued to do into his 96th year. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Irwin was a compassionate person and always there to help someone in need. He was a long time member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wesley.

Survivors include his children, Sharon Hildman of Humboldt, Robert Hildman and wife Joann of Algona,  Larry Hildman and wife Sylvia of Wesley, and Diane and husband Lloyd Brandt of Algona as well as nine grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and five step-great grandchildren. Also surviving is sister Mildred Martin of Algona, sisters-in-law Eleanor Hildman of Algona, Loretta Hildman of Britt, Velma Ramus of Fort Dodge, and close family friend Karen Simpson. Irwin was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Helen, three sisters, Rosella, Beatrice and Adella and three brothers, Clair, Leo and Aelred.

Oakcrest Funeral Services of Wesley was in charge of arrangements.


Carol J. Trampel

Carol J. Trampel, 75, of Forest City, died Thursday, March 20, 2014, at the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City.

A funeral service was held Tuesday, March 25, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 810 State St., Garner, with Pastor Scott Kozisek officiating.

Visitation was from  5 to 7 p.m., Monday, March 24, at Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark St., Forest City.

Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Carol J. Trampel memorial fund in care of the family.

Carol J. Trampel the daughter of Henry O.E. and Lydia (Hinz) Kinne was born March 13, 1939. She attended Lu Verne High School, graduating in 1957. On Feb. 23, 1958, she was united in marriage to Melbourne ‘Mel’ J. Trampel at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Algona. The couple lived on a farm near Rockwell where they farmed for 13 years. In April of 1972 they moved to Fertile were she began work at the Fertile School. Later she worked for many years at Forest City schools where she drove bus and did custodial work. The couple moved to rural Clear Lake, Swaledale and then in October of 1985 they moved back to the family farm in rural Rockwell. In 2003 she moved to Oakridge Drive in Forest City before finally residing at the Good Samaritan Home in Forest City in 2010.

Carol enjoyed watching movies, listening to music, puzzles and had a love for animals. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Carol is survived by her two children: Debra (Tom) Cunningham of Leland, Dan Trampel of Forest City; Grandchildren; Nick (Jessica) Cunningham of Leland, Jacob Cunningham of Cedar Rapids, Joshua Cunningham of Cedar Rapids, Mathew Reed of rural Rockwell, Andrea Reed of rural Rockwell, Colin Reed of rural Rockwell; son in-law Jim Reed of rural Rockwell; Great-grandson; Aaiden Cunningham of Leland; twin brother Carl Kinne of Spokane, Wash.; many nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Melbourne ‘Mel’ J. Trampel; daughter, Darla Reed; three brothers, Don Kinne, Luther Kinne, infant Jimmy Kinne; and sister, Lillian Neimeyer.
