Ruth Schultz, age
83, of Osage, died on Monday,
February 5, 2007, at the Mercy
Medical Center North Iowa in
Mason City.
A Mass of
Christian Burial will be held at
10:30 a.m., on Friday, February
9, 2007, at the Sacred Heart
Catholic Church in Osage with
Rev. John Moser officiating.
Burial will be in the Sacred
Heart Cemetery. Visitation is
from 3:30 to 8:00 p.m., on
Thursday, at the
Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in
Osage, with a rosary at 4:00
p.m. and a scripture service at
7:00 p.m.
Ruth was born on
May 7, 1923, near David, Iowa,
the daughter of Oscar and Belle
(McKinney) Fleenor. She
graduated from the Osage High
School in 1941.
Ruth was united in marriage to
Joseph Schultz on September 29,
1945 in Chicago, Illinois. In
1948 they moved to Osage. She
was employed as a school cook at
the Lincoln Elementary School in
Osage, retiring in the late
1970's. Ruth was a member of
Sacred Heart Catholic Church and
the Ladies Guild. She enjoyed
quilting and gardening.
Ruth is survived
by her husband, Joseph of Osage;
2 daughters, Sandra (Joe) Nanti
of Mounds View, Minnesota and
Judy (Rick) Edgcumbe of New
Brighton, Minnesota; four
grandchildren, Melissa Nanti,
David Nanti, Chris Edgcumbe and
Andy Edgcumbe; 3 Sisters, Mary
Belle Horgen of Osage, Zola Naig
of Osage and Betty (Roger) Moore
of Elgin, Illinois.
She was preceded
in death by her parents; a
brother, Roy Fleenor; and 2
sisters, Ruby Weber and Hazel
Benson

Mary Ruth Loften
February 7, 2007
Mary Ruth Loften,
age 88, formerly of Osage, died
on Wednesday, February 7, 2007,
at the Westward Heights Care
Center in Lander, Wyoming.
Funeral services
will be held at 10:30 a.m., on
Saturday, February 10, 2007, at
the First United Methodist
Church in Osage, with Rev. Dr.
J. Samuel Subramanian
officiating. Burial will be in
the Osage Cemetery. Following
the funeral service, there will
be a time for lunch and
fellowship at the church.
She was born on
October 18, 1918, to Edward and
Bessie (Bevington) Granville in
Escondido, California, where she
was raised. On March 24, 1946,
she married Robert D. Loften at
the Chapel of the Roses in Chula
Vista, California. They moved to
Osage in 1951, where they raised
their four children, Sheila,
Douglas, Thomas and James. She
moved to Riverton, Wyoming in
2001.
She was preceded
in death by her parents; her
siblings, Joseph, Edward, John,
and Betty; her husband, Robert;
her daughter, Sheila; her son,
Douglas; and her grandson,
Bruce.
Her survivors
include her two sons, Dr. Thomas
Loften and his wife, Cheryl of
Riverton, Wyoming and Dr. James
Loften and his wife, Martha of
St. Cloud, Minnesota;
grandchildren, Eric Loften of
Washington D.C., Karla Loften of
Corpus Christi, Texas, Brian
Loften of Anchorage, AL, Rob
Loften of Osage and Kelly
(Loften) Ross of Osage, Dag
Tollefson of Riverton, Wyoming,
Sissy Johnson of Oslo, Norway,
and the Holly kids, Andrew,
Amanda, David, Brian, Gregory,
Maureen, and Mary; eight
great-grandchildren; a
daughter-in-law, Mary C. Loften
of Osage; and numerous nieces
and nephews.
Mary so loved her
family, along with her
gardening, her home, her china
painting and her hats. She will
be in all of our hearts forever.

Elaine N. West,
age 71, of Riceville, died on
Friday, February 9, 2007, at the
Mitchell County Regional Health
Center-Emergency Room, in Osage.
Funeral services will be held at
2:00 p.m., on Monday, February
12, 2007, at the
Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in
Osage, with Pastor Michael
Parris officiating. Burial will
be in the Osage Cemetery.
Visitation is from 2-5:00 p.m.,
on Sunday at the
Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in
Osage.
Elaine was born
on May 17, 1935 in Rolfe, Iowa,
the daughter of Vernet and
Mildred (Nielsen) Johnson. She
graduated from the Riceville
High School in 1955. Elaine
lived in Mason City for close to
30 years.
On July 8, 1984, Elaine was
united in marriage to Donald
West. They made their home in
Mitchell for 16 years. Donald
passed away in 2001. Elaine
lived in Riceville for the past
seven years. She enjoyed
decorating her home. Elaine's
faith was a very important part
of her life.
She was preceded
in death by her parents; her
husband, Donald West; and two
brothers, Lawrence Johnson and
Herbert Johnson.
Elaine is
survived by her son, Benny Starr
of Elma; three sisters, Dolores
(Dick) House of Anchorage,
Alaska, Ilalee (Donald) Fjetland
of Riceville and Ivadel Fjetland
of Riceville; and many nieces
and nephews.
Funeral

Rita Gertrude
Teach, age 95, of Riceville,
passed away at the Riceville
Community Rest Home on Tuesday,
February 13, 2007.
Funeral services will be held at
the Lindstrom Funeral Home in
Riceville on Friday, February
16, at 10:00 a.m., with Rev.
Gale Richards officiating.
Burial will be in the Chester
Hill Cemetery in Chester, Iowa.
Friends may call at the
Lindstrom Funeral Home in
Riceville, on Thursday during
the hours of 4-6:00 p.m. and one
hour before services on Friday
at the funeral home.
Rita was born on
April 2, 1911, in Paris Township
in Howard County, to Jacob P.
and Nellie A. (Hilke) Derr. Rita
was united in marriage to Lee G.
Teach on December 15, 1938.
Survivors include
her brother, Robert Derr and his
wife, Jean of Austin, Minnesota;
and a nephew.

Rev. Robert R.
Barrick, age 82, of Osage, died
on Wednesday, February 14, 2007,
at the Faith Lutheran Home in
Osage.
Funeral services will be held at
1:30 p.m., on Saturday, February
17, 2007, at the First United
Methodist Church in Osage, with
Rev. Dr. J. Samuel Subramanian
officiating. Burial will be in
the Osage Cemetery, with a flag
presentation by the Osage
American Legion Post 278.
Visitation will be from 4-7:00
p.m., on Friday at the
Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in
Osage, and will continue one
hour before services on Saturday
at the church.
Bob was born on
April 21, 1924 in Waynoka,
Oklahoma, the son of Ernest T.
and Maude H. (Elliott) Barrick.
He grew up on a farm near Enid,
Oklahoma, graduating in 1942
from the Enid High School. He
graduated from Oklahoma State
University in 1947, with a B.S.
in Agronomy. Bob served in the
U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946.
On December 27, 1944, he married
Margaret Mobley at the Methodist
Church in Jones, Oklahoma. They
lived in Oklahoma and Texas
until moving to Osage in 1953.
Bob ran a hatchery business
until 1970, had his own
insulation business, was a
livestock feed salesman, and
worked at Winnebago Industries.
Robert was ordained as a
minister in the United Methodist
Church on June 8, 1986. During
the time he attended ministerial
school, he was a part-time
minister at the Elma and Alta
Vista United Methodist Churches.
He participated in Walk to
Emmaus. He moved to Ladora,
Iowa, in 1982, and preached in
churches at Ladora, Koszta, and
Ohio, Iowa. In 1993, he returned
to Osage to semi-retire and
became a visitation minister for
11 years.
Bob was active in Boy Scouts and
Cub Scouts for 30 years,
receiving the District Award of
Merit, the Silver Beaver Award
(the highest volunteer award),
and the Wood Badge Training
Award. In 1977, he was an
Assistant Scout Master at the
National Jamboree. While living
in Ladora, Bob started a Boy
Scout Troop and a Cub Scout
Pack. Bob's three sons are Eagle
Scouts, and his two daughters
achieved the Curved Bar in Girl
Scouts. Bob loved horses, dogs,
hiking, and gardening.
Rev. Barrick is
survived by his wife, Margaret
Barrick of Osage; five children,
Robert Barrick, Jr. of Kalona,
Janet (Michael) Lockie of
Austin, Minnesota, Neil (Laurie)
Barrick of Johnston, Marilyn
Boyd and friend, Roger DeGolier
of Leland, Reese (Michelle)
Barrick of Price, Utah; four
sisters, Margaret Leonard of
Osage, Cathryn Stubbe of
Phoenix, Arizona, Charlotte
(Doyle) Parrack of Perkins,
Oklahoma and Dorothy (Ted) Dodds
of Tempe, Arizona; one brother,
William (Jean) Barrick of
Abilene, Texas; eight
grandchildren, Katie Lockie,
Jeremiah (Megan) Lockie, Daniel
Lockie, Micah Lockie, Courtney
(John) Quinn, Andrew Barrick,
Kezia Boyd and Mahalia Barrick;
two great-grandchildren, Aliyah
Lockie and Alexis Forsberg; and
numerous nieces and nephews; and
dog, Dusty.
He was preceded
in death by his parents; one
brother, Elliott; three sisters,
Esther Thompson, Helen Williams
and Mary Gilbert.

Glen Hatten, age 53, died on
Thursday, February 15, 2007, at
Colorado Springs Colorado.
Memorial services

Bethel Lutheran Church in
Colorado Springs.
Glen was born on
October 30, 1953 in Osage, the
son of Edward J. Hatten and
Kathleen C. Scheer of
Stacyville.
Glen Was preceded
in death by his mother.
Survivors include
his son, Jason of Pueblo,
Colorado; daughter, Brittnae
Canfield of Colorado Springs,
Colorado; two grandchildren;
four brothers; four sisters; and
his father.

Carl E. Duenow

Carl E. Duenow,
age 80, of Osage, died on
Saturday, February 17, 2007, at
the Mitchell County Regional
Health Center-Hospice Unit in
Osage.
Funeral services will be held at
1:30 p.m., on Thursday, February
22, 2007, at Our Savior's
Lutheran Church in Osage, with
Rev. Dennis Hanson and Rev. Roy
Ott officiating. The body will
be cremated after the church
service with inurnment in the
Osage Cemetery at a later date.
Visitation will be from 4-8:00
p.m., on Wednesday, at the
Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in
Osage, and will continue one
hour before services at the
church.
In lieu of
flowers, memorials may be
directed to Hospice of North
Iowa, KCMR Radio, Our Savior's
Service Book Fund or Our
Savior's Choir, or the charity
of your choice.
Carl Everett
Duenow, was born on September
30, 1926, the son of Carl A. and
Edna (Koster) Duenow on their
farm near St. Ansgar. He
attended the Spring Valley Rural
School and graduated from the
St. Ansgar High School in 1944.
Carl entered the United States
Army, serving in the Army
Infantry at Camp Hood, Texas, in
1944-45 and in the Adjutant
General Division, 2nd Army
Headquarters, Ft. Meade Maryland
in 1945-46. He attended Austin
Junior College. Carl farmed near
St. Ansgar on the family farm.
On December 3, 1950, he married
Sylvia Krogstad at the Osage
Lutheran Church. They farmed for
eight years, after which Carl
spent the next thirty years in
territory sales, personnel and
dealer management in agriculture
related business. Carl and
Sylvia also owned and operated
an engraving business from 1982
to 1997.
Through the years, Carl was a
member of the Kiwanis, Lions and
Rotary Service Clubs. Music was
the joy of his life, and he
loved to sing in church choirs
and in a Gospel Song Men's group
while wintering in Texas. He was
the current President of the
Mitchell County Concert Series.
He also served as a volunteer
radio announcer at KCMR Radio in
Mason City for twenty years.
He was preceded
in death by one infant son;
three infant daughters; and his
parents.
Left to cherish
his memory are his wife of 56
years, Sylvia; daughter, Melanie
of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and
son, Scott and his wife, Annette
of Jersey City, New Jersey.
He is also
survived by his brothers, Wayne
(Dorothy) Duenow of Jefferson
City, Missouri, Kenneth
(Shirley) Duenow of St. Ansgar,
Merlyn (LuAnn) Duenow of
Montgomery, Minnesota and John
Duenow (Sally) of Liberty Lake,
Washington; sisters, Shirley
Markham of Osage, Eleanor Tracy
of St. Ansgar and Margaret
(Larry) Runtsch of Lake City,
Minnesota; and by numerous
nieces and nephews.
Funeral

Marlys Dass, 73,
of Silver City, New Mexico, died
on Thursday, February 22, 2007,
at the Gila Regional Medical
Center.
A celebration of life service
was held on Saturday, March 3,
2007, at the First Lutheran
Church, St. Ansgar. Inurnment
followed in the Grafton
Cemetery, Grafton, Iowa.
Dass was born on
December 13, 1933 in Osage,
Iowa, to Selmer and Florence
(Meyer) Sponheim.
Survivors include
her husband, Melvin; daughters,
Susan Ruhoff and Lisa Braun;
step-children, Susan, Dianne,
Gary and Karen; and 13
grandchildren.

Norbert J. Neuerburg

Norbert J.
Neuerburg, age 93, of Osage,
died on Friday, February 23,
2007, at the Osage
Rehabilitation and Health Care
Center in Osage.
A Mass of Christian Burial will
be held at 10:00 a.m., on
Wednesday, February 28, at the
Sacred Heart Catholic Church in
Osage, with Rev. John Moser
officiating. Burial will be in
the Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Visitation is from 4:30 to 7:00
p.m., on Tuesday, at the
Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in
Osage, with a Rosary at 5:00
p.m. and a Scripture Service at
6:30 p.m.
Norbert was born on October 11,
1913 in Wadena, Minnesota, the
son of Nicholas and Louise (Tabery)
Neuerburg.
He married Estella Mandler on
June 29, 1938, at the Sacred
Heart Catholic Church in Osage.
They began their married life in
Waterloo, where Norbert worked
at the Rath Packing Company.
They then farmed in Minnesota,
after which they farmed for 30
years near Cresco, Iowa. Norbert
also hauled milk for several
years for the Schley Cheese
Company and drove a school bus
for several years for the
Howard-Winneshiek Community
School District. He retired from
farming and moved to Osage in
1986.
He was a member of the Catholic
Order of Foresters and the
Knights of Columbus. Norbert
enjoyed playing cards, dancing,
fishing, and pitching
horseshoes, and mixed with
everything, a little mischief.
He was preceded
in death by his wife, Estella in
1997; his parents; and two
brothers, Bernard and Lawrence.
Norbert is
survived by his two sons, Joseph
of Traverse City, Michigan and
Ronald and wife, Marilyn of
Eldora; four grandchildren,
Troy, Michael, Elizabeth, and
Thomas Neuerburg; three sisters,
Marie, Bertilla, and Cyrilla;
three brothers, Leo, Herbert,
and Clement; three
sisters-in-law, Leona Rogers and
Lucille Hultman of Osage and
Vivian Neuerburg of Rock Island,
Illinois; and special friend,
Beulah Cockrum of Osage.
The Champion-Bucheit
Funeral Home, Osage, was in
charge of the arrangements.
